Ghosts know no season, respect no boundaries, and offer no mercy.

Ed and Lorraine Warren, the world’s most famous and respected demonologists, have devoted decades to exploring, authenticating, and conclusively documenting countless cases of otherworldly phenomena.

Bestselling books and hit motion pictures, including The Amityville Horror, A Haunting in Connecticut, The Conjuring, and Annabelle, have been inspired by the Warrens’ extraordinary real-life experiences with the supernatural.

From the grounds of the United States military academy at West Point, New York to the backwoods of Tennessee, Ghost Hunters chronicles their first-hand confrontations with the unknown, the unholy, and the unspeakable.

Here are the accounts of teenage girls who trifled with Satanism and séances, only to fall victim to the most horrifying of spirits… A village terrorized by a murderous, unstoppable force too evil to be anything but Hell-born… A family’s home besieged by the relentless, destructive fury of poltergeists… The real facts behind the house of horrors in Amityville.

In all, fourteen terrifying tales… all the more spine-tingling because they’re true!

Books by Ed & Lorraine Warren also include Graveyard, The Haunted, In a Dark Place, Werewolf, and Satan's Harvest.

Really grasping book!

ED & LORRAINE WARREN

I am huge fan of the Warrens since I watched the first film of The Conjuring and I've read already two books about them before this one (you can check it out in my book lists of my GR profile), and I want to read all the possible ones.

Ed & Lorraine Warren, sadly both now are deceased, but when they were alive, they were a married couple dedicated to help people while investigating paranormal events. Ed was a certified exorcist (the only one in USA outside of the Catholic Clergy) and Lorraine was a powerful psychic able to sense things. Both help not only regular people, but also the police and even the army. And while they already been since decades doing that, they were exposed to general awareness when they were involved during the infamous Amityville case.

FOURTEEN CASES

You will find 14 different cases in this book, some of them aren't much developed in detail but you get a clear enough picture of each of those.

If you want to read cases in more detail (but in less quantity of cases) the book The Demonologist is an excelent option. (including cases like Annabelle, Enfield, and a deeply detailed case exposing the three phases of a haunting: infestation, oppression and possession).

If you are looking for quantity, this is your book, told from the point of view of the very Warrens, with 14 interesting and quite different cases...

...several ghosts in the West Point Academy (this case is detailed too in The Demonologist)

...Donna Zorn, a girl who was victim of a murder most violent and Lorraine was instrumental to find the criminals.

...Bigfoot, but not like you may think but a different angle and involving mind psychically manipulated.

...the famous actress Jane Seymour accompanies Lorraine to check out a haunted house.

...Stacy Collins, a teenager girl victim of possession who has to suffer exorcism and even that wasn't sadly enough.

...Barbara Harris, another victim of murder.

...the famous Smurl Haunting case about the Smurl Family, also explored in the book The Haunted that received a TV movie treatment too.

...Joel Dewitt, a disturbed man who commit a truly unspeakable sin and suffered the consequences.

...Denise Summers who read books that nobody should read just for fun, since her life turned into a living hell.

...Elijah Phelps, a religious minister suffering due acts deep in the past of the family's history.

...the infamous Amityville case (exposed too in The Demonologist book).

...the deadly history of Dudleytown, a village that no longer exists but its dark legacy still can be felt.

...Abigail Radley, a policewoman who needed help to understand a ghost too close of her.

...a powerful 48-hours poltergeist explosion in Lindley Street, afecting the Goodin Family and eclipsing the world news during that time.

Highly recommend to any fan of the Ed & Lorraine Warren's work.

I havn't read one book by the Warrens yet that I don't enjoy! This book definantly had me spooked! Ed and Lorraine Warren are/were (Ed is with God) demonologists, so naturally everything paranormal is going to be a demonic infestation to them. I can see where they might get the impression about the demonic on the hauntings they talked about in this book, but they even included a way to make the big hairy man shaped creature, better known as bigfoot, a demonic force.
I would not read this one if I had to sleep alone at night! No matter what you believe this book will give you the creeps! I read these kind of books to get scared, and I'm pleased to say this one did the job. As I write this I keep looking behind me. Of course nothings there, but this just goes to show how creeped out I am!
Ed and Lorraine Warren are better known for their works with popular hauntings such as The Amityville Horror, The Haunted, and also for giving lectures at Universities all over the country on the paranormal. This book is about some of their most memorable cases.

Well, at least they realized their mistake with the first book and actually used Warren cases this time. But it still was just meh.

Ghost Hunters discusses 10 cases of the Warrens. But as this book is only slightly above 200 pages, "discusses" might be a broad term. Each chapter states the basic facts and then there are a few anecdotes and then boom, onto the next. It felt like it was just listing what they considered accomplishments without really telling us what happened.

I know they might not be amazing storytellers, but that's why they have this Robert David Chase person writing the book with them. I just wanted more information. Each of these cases should have easily filled a book with that happened and the aftermath. Instead it was just point a to point b - very direct. Which maybe some people like that. But I wanted information and their actual real thoughts behind everything. Not just that Jesus saves the day again with prayer.

Horrible book

This is one of the worst written books I've ever read, the format was awful. The stories themselves seemed like nothing but self serving pats on the back. The chapter about Jane Seymour was about Lorraine sort of meeting her......had no relevance as a ghost story of any kind. Skip this one, it's not worth the read. 👎

I was very disappointed with this book. I was expecting to be scared, and creeped out, but every story fell short. They were dry case files. There was no suspense at all. I was expecting and hoping for so much more!

I don't really know why this edition has been published, the original first coming to light in 1989. It wouldn't have been very interesting to the majority of thinking people then, even less now, and there is a 'dated' feeling (if it's possible to say so about 'ghosts') not only in the presentation but in the incidents it purports to present.

According to this book:

demons cause mental illness and murders;
reading about the occult can invite possession;
pornography leads to necrophilia and possession by the Devil;
poverty, especially if accompanied with alcoholism, adultery, and child abuse, will all welcome in demons:
people possessed by demons, more often than not 'bring it on themselves';
that a woman can be almost responsible for her own murder;
demons can cause air turbulence to affect an aircraft on which one of the 'ghost hunters' is travelling;
'Bigfoot' is just a mind projection;
that demons are really the result of a last ditch stand of pagans to try and combat Christianity; and
Christianity is the only 'cure' for demons.

And that last in the list is the reason for this book. The Warrens are staunch Roman Catholics and everything they see is in the light that shines from Rome. Anything that goes wrong in people's lives is down to the fact that they have lost the true path. Return to it and things might (they don't make any guarantees) get better.

Even with this super faith not all the cases get resolved. It seems that when the publicity dies down and the Warrens were no longer in the spotlight sometimes those demons that had tormented an individual or family were allowed to continue to do so. The Warrens and the priests had done their best but when faced with too determined an adversary were all quite happy to admit defeat and leave the victims to their fate.

Often there are few specifics and therefore making any cross referencing difficult; perpetrators of heinous crimes turn out (once Lorraine had used her 'psychic powers') to be the stereotypical villains from Christians' worst fears, down to body odour and bad teeth; at times something is made of nothing and they seem to play fast and loose with historical facts at times.

Not for anyone with a critical mind.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

This is a compilation of various supernatural experiences experienced by Ed and Lorraine Warren, the husband/wife team of ghost hunters.

It's ok, but I cannot recommend it.

Zapewne znacie Eda i Lloraine z filmów ,,Obecność" i ,,Annabelle".

This was probably a 3.5 rounded up to a 4. It was a book of basically little short stories about cases/experiences that the Warrens had. I am a huge fan of theirs so this was a great little read after being insanely busy the past month.

It was definitely better than the first book, but some of the ideals written in here were kind of prejudiced. But it also had a story about Bigfoot, so kudos to that, I guess

Waste of money. I was really excited do read this after having read several books on this topic and being generally fascinated by the supernatural, but was disappointed. Actually got bored after "Chapter" 3. Don't waste your time on this.
PLUS. I found the information in this book to be different from their accounts of the same stories in another book I read (which was actually quite good, it's called "Demonologist" by Gerald Brittle, gave me nightmares that), which makes me think they may actually be full of c*ap those Warrens. Shame.
PLUS the Bigfoot? Seriously? What's next? Loch Ness monster? Doesn't work in the Warrens' favour in terms of credibility.

~~~
Sprawy związane ze zjawiskami przynajmniej u większości z nas mogą wywoływać uczucie niepokoju i gęsią skórkę. Mimo to jest w nich coś intrygującego, co sprawia, że ludzie są chętni dowiedzieć się więcej. Odpowiedzi na pytania "Dlaczego tak się dzieje?" albo "Czym kierują się demony wybierając swoje ofiary?" mimo wszystko gdzieś w głębi duszy chcielibyśmy dostać. Jednak wizja stania się celem sił nieczystych potrafi skłonić do dociekania.
"Opętania. Historie prawdziwe" to już druga książka, w której znaczącą rolę pełnią najsłynniejsi na świecie badacze zjawisk paranormalnych - Ed i Lorraine Warren. W tej odsłonie czekają na nas opowieści o sprawach, w których pierwsze skrzypce należą do demonicznych sił, dręczących ludzi, rodziny, a nawet całe miasteczka. Wszystko to dostajemy prosto od małżeństwa, które sprostało wielu takim przypadkom i pomogło osobom nimi dotkniętym.
Ponownie, jak to też zrobiłam przy pierwszej książce, muszę powiedzieć na wstępie, że książka nie jest zła, jeżeli wiadomo czym ona jest. Jeżeli szukacie literatury grozy to możecie ją sobie śmiało odpuścić, bo do tego gatunku jej daleko. Druga książka według mnie wypada nieco lepiej od swojej poprzedniczki. Przede wszystkim jest to spowodowane tematem. Nawiedzenia na cmentarzach nie były dla mnie aż tak ciekawe, jak opętania i aktywność demonów na ludziach, czasami w obecności wielu świadków. Jak widać, sama tematyka potrafi zrobić ogromną robotę. Mam jednak jedną rzecz do zarzucenia. Mianowicie przedstawienie tych wszystkich przypadków. Mamy tu między innymi jedną z najgłośniejszych spraw, którą zajmowali się Warrenowie, czyli Amytiville. W ebooku zostało jej poświęcone tylko 5 stron, i to w dodatku samego wywiadu z Edem i Lorraine. Zawiodłam się jak trafiłam na ten rozdział, bo znacznie więcej dowiedziałam się z artykułów z internetu lata temu niż z bezpośredniego źródła, czyli ludzi którzy zajmowali się całym tym przypadkiem. Według mnie wybór spraw jest jak najbardziej ciekawy, ale nie rozwinięty. Szkoda, bo zapowiadała się znacznie lepsza lektura niż ostatecznie wypadła.
There was no editing for this ebook whatsoever. The grammatical errors are their own supernatural force here.
I’m, like most others interested in the paranormal, fascinated by the Warrens and their decades long career in all things spooky. Some of these stories I liked more than others and some were familiar to me, but there are just some elements that I truly cannot believe i.e. being sexually assaulted by supernatural forces and mentally linking with Bigfoot. Too strange for me. But otherwise a very interesting mix of stories from the Warrens’ archives.
