Follow Richelle Pieman in this exciting tale! Learn more about the Piemans’ plans and what Marcus sees as the key to the future.

In 2014, I stopped my "hopefully one day" dream of becoming an author, stopped doing nothing with my writing, and kicked off my indie author life. Twenty-five years of doing nothing with my writing was enough, and after two medical events, I was filled with drive to change my life.

I've written the much loved young adult series, The Yellow Hoods, a world where steampunk and fairy tale meet.

In 2016, I showed two other sides of myself as an author, The Wizard Killer - Season One which is post-apocalyptic fantasy written in an episodic style, and the upcoming science fiction book, The Man of Cloud 9, which is infused with some of my high tech life from before I was an author.

I'm a frequent public speaker at schools and conventions, a dyslexic with some motivational chronic issues, and live in Calgary, Alberta with my wife and kids.

Series Video Review: https://youtu.be/WIhk4Z0TUFw

This is quick, must-read for fans of The Yellow Hoods series who are looking to live in the world a little while longer. Set after the events of book two, this short story allows the reader to read more about Richelle, providing further character development and backstory for this intriguing woman. This is an engaging story with the same great writing and storytelling found in Dreece's full-length novels.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. As always, my opinions are my own.

I received this book from the author for review.

This novella focuses on Richelle, a character that was introduced in the second book in the Yellow Hoods series, Breadcrumb Trail. While the Snappy and Dashing storyline is independent of this excellent series, it is still a story that fans of the first two books will enjoy. This story takes place directly after the events of book two, and delves further into the character of Richelle.

In all honesty, I am not a fan of novellas, because I never have enough time to connect to the characters or the story. I usually never read them unless it is absolutely necessary to the plot of the actual books. With that being said, when I found out this novella was going to be about the character Richelle, I was very excited. She was a very interesting character in book two, and I was was looking forward to learning more about her.

The way this story was put together was different – in a good way, well written, and interesting. Some of Richelle’s past was illuminated without sacrificing the momentum of the story. Also, Dreece revealed how some of Richelle’s story lines and ideas in Breadcrumb Trail started and were planned out. The plot and quick pace of the story was also very well done, making this book my favorite novella I have read. If you are a fan of the first two books in the series, then I highly recommend reading this as well.

I just wanted a light and easy read to calm my mind down after an eventful day. And, yeah, my mind was calmed down, but not because this was a nice and easy read.

While the language was good, I found the story slow, repetative, and really info-dumping. There was a lot of random backstory that didn't seem relevant to the current story, and it felt like the MC didn't know what she want to feel about anyone at any time.
''He made my hair stand on end'' but at the same time ''I wanted him to be impressed by me and proud of me''.

I know I read the whole thing, but I think I spaced out for most of it, for I honestly can't remember what it's about, even just having finished it. There was an ambush, and flashbacks, and a ''blast from the past'', but that's about it.

I guess it might have been more interesting if I'd read the original series, but as it stands, it didn't capture my interest enough for me to want to read any more in the series.

Omg I could not put this book down ! Hits the right level of detail and intrigue to keep the reader riveted to the story until the unpredictable ending, and leaves the reader wanting to find out what happens next.

This is a novella, so I'll be brief.

THE GOOD:
All right, I will admit right here that this is the first part of the Yellow Hoods series that I personally had a hard time putting down. The others were good, but not super motivating for me. This novelette has a tight, compelling plot (well, compelling if you're caught up through book 2 and loved the side characters anyway--which are in my not-humble opinion the best parts of the series). It expounds on interesting characters and doesn't dawdle.

The ratio of action to characters talking is heavier on the characters talking side than the rest of the series, but the action is there and I promise the characters don't yammer on for too long.

THE NOT GOOD:
Too dang short, with a twist. Curses!

VERDICT:
If you like the series, and you're caught up to book 2 or later, just read it. It's worth the time, and adds to the Yellow Hoods world without sucking up a bunch of time.

Between book 2 & the soon to be released book 3 of The Yellow Hoods series, author Adam Dreece wrote this great supplemental story expanding our view of the protagonists - The Red Hoods - especially Their leader Richelle (Snappy) Pieman. I didn't want to like her. Nor did I want the other sinister characters to become - in any way - endearing to me. Adam did what needed to be done; he brought a sincere understanding and likeability to "the bad guys." Now we proceed with even more suspense as the secrets of The Yellow Hoods unfolds. Bravo - a must-read for the fans of this series. (Also a suggested read to anyone looking for a great new series to follow!)

This is a short 'novelette' that follows what happens to Richelle Pieman after the end of Book 2 of the Yellow Hoods series. The entertaining story brings depth to Richelle's character and gives us insight into the teacher/mentor relationship between her and her former instructor, Mr. Jenny. There are also other important tidbits that fill in some details from the past and provide further insights into the current events taking place in the series. As with the books of his brilliant Yellow Hoods series, Dreece infuses this tale with action, intrigue, humor, and emotion. It's a quick, satisfying story and an absolute must-read for all fans of the Yellow Hoods books.

This companion tale follows a character introduced in Breadcrumb Trail: Richelle Pieman. The Yellow Hoods aren’t in this companion story; it focuses only on Richelle and the Pieman family.

Weighing in at less than 40 pages, Snappy & Dashing is a side trip on the series’s greater journey. The short tale switches between Richelle’s current dilemma and her past, easing between both very smoothly. It’s entertaining and adds depth to the world in which Dreece has set his Yellow Hoods series. Well worth the read, if one wants to know more about the Pieman family.

Note: I did receive a free review copy from the author, but I'm buying the book anyway.

Books like SNAPPY AND DASHING are what make ebooks useful: far too short to see life in print outside of a collection, this novelette fills in a gap between Book Two of the YELLOW HOODS series and the forthcoming Book Three. There's action, character development, and a nice little bit of world building that makes it clear why Dreece is always careful to call HOODS an "emergent steampunk" series. Know what to expect-- you'll be done in an hour, easy-- but SNAPPY AND DASHING is well worth the minimal cost.

I read this Companion Tale AFTER I had read all of the books, so I had some issues placing the events of Richelle's tale with the events that were going on in the books. That being set, if you have a bad memory for events, such as I, I would recommend reading this one, as the book entails, after the 2nd and before the 3rd.

With that being said, It was very well written, as the rest of the series. It was really interesting to learn about Richelle and to follow some of her story and the things that were going on in her life.

I'm looking forward to future Companion Tales!

Snappy and Dashing is not your average novelette. Take a look inside Richelle's past as the final moments of Breadcrumb Trail turn deadly for the leader of the Red Hoods. Sometimes hiding your face can save your life, other times, it can hide sinister plots beneath bright colors.
As Dreece's first companion tale hits the shelves, it is packed with action and does not disappoint. Be prepared to take a wild ride with Richelle, the Red Hood we're not sure we hate or love.

Great writing for a side book, lots of action without spoiling the series. Although about the tale is about the bad guys it is very engaging. An hour plus change give it a spin.

Thanks to the author for a book to read and review.

I'm thinking because I didn't really like book two that this book was just going to be mediocre to me. It's just a brief novella about the red hoods and their leader. Just enough to give you an understanding of the bad guys. Overall entertainment was three stars.

Though I liked the story, and appreciate that it's a novella, something felt missing compared to the other Yellow Hoods books. I'm not sure what it was, but it played more like deleted scenes from a movie rather than a complete story (and I'm aware that is their origin). It doesn't depreciate my love for the main books, and Richelle was as awesome as always. Overall, it was good, but not great.

This was a great companion story bridging part of the gap between the second and third books. I liked that it followed some of the villains of the series entirely, and left out the protagonists entirely.

Disclamer: I have not read book one yet. I see now that this novella comes after book two. Reading in order may be advised.

Snappy and Dashing is a short novella set in the world of The Yellow Hoods. The Characters in this book call themselves the Red hoods so I guess this has something to do with a certain fairy tale.

The plot involves one secret society ambushing and kidnapping the leader of another. I just don't really follow the politics of it that well. (I really need to read book one.)

Anyway it was exciting, action packed and really made me want to start this series so I guess it served it's purpose.

"Snappy & Dashing: A Mondus Fumus Story (The Yellow Hoods Book 1) is indeed a snappy and dashing book. The steampunk adventure was fast paced and fun, with a female hero driving the action.

I have not read the "Yellow Hoods" series, and so as a stand-alone novella, this book was confusing to me at times, and I lost track of what was happening in each chapter.

I am intrigued and plan to read the full novels in "The Yellow Hoods" series. I have a feeling if I had read them first, this novella would have been more coherent for me.

Snappy and Dashing by Adam Dreece is a lovely introduction to the world of the red and yellow hoods. This seems to be a steampunk fairy tale where technology exists alongside magical beings. This short tale introduces you to the world, and a betrayal that could have long lasting consequences. I loved the ending, and wanted to read more of this world.
Fans of fairytales and fantasy worlds should give this book a chance. You might be surprised.

I loved the strength and determination of the heroine. The story was fast moving, almost too fast. A lot was happening, and there were several twists and turns. I really did get into the story. Unfortunately, I only got so far then my computer crashed taking this book with it. I'll catch up later and right another review.

Maybe this would have made more sense if I'd read any of the other books in the series, but I didn't like any of the characters and had trouble figuring out what the main problem was. All the flashbacks didn't help, either.

Fun read

Quick , fun read. There was a bit too much explaining going on for my taste, but it was a good way to pass the time.

Not kindle unlimited, got the trilogy {plus} set by whining at the writer that he wasn't on ku, sometimes that works, but only bother to do it if really want to read the book{s}.

Do you remember any of the fairy tales or nursery rhymes you heard when you were little? How about Rub-a-dub-dub, Simple Simon, Chicken Little, Humpty Dumpty, or Santa Clause, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, Rumpelstiltskin, Beauty and the Beast, or Alice in Wonderland? Want or need your memory jogged? This is, but isn't, those stories.

In the first book when Steampunk meets fairy tale, inventions and inventors, fairy tales are real, and a secret society named Tub is led by a butcher, a baker, and a candlestick maker, and are caught in someone else's plot to steal the first steam engine plans. Want to picture the lands, just look at the first page illustration. Want to more about everything that happened?

In the second and third books, another secret society called the Fare starts real trouble, and their plans are finally revealed.

Along Came a Wolf (The Yellow Hoods #1)
Breadcrumb Trail (The Yellow Hoods, #2)
All the King's-Men (The Yellow Hoods, #3)
The Yellow Hoods Boxset (Books 1-3) {includes mini-book 2.5: Snappy & Dashing

Beauties of the Beast (The Yellow Hoods, #4)
The Day the Sky Fell (The Yellow Hoods #5)

Snappy & Dashing: A Yellow Hoods Companion Tale #1 (The Yellow Hoods) {2.5} {this is standalone but best read if you can at the end of 2 before 3} This has a serial story type feeling to it, which is not necessarily a bad thing, and seems longer than the usual serial, just noting it. This was more the type of fairy tale would have read when younger Hated the ones read to me, why I started reading by myself at age 4} and fits in nicely with the reworked fairy tales getting more predominate lately. THIS one could be standalone but I suggest either 3+box set which has it included, and is a bit of a detour but not really, as it involves another important, side, character and her background which relates to the story.
