SEAL of Protection #6

Protecting Jessyka

Rate this book
Kason “Benny” Sawyer was the last single man on his Navy SEAL team. He loved his teammates like brothers and respected each and every one of their women. They’d all been through hell and they deserved their current happiness. But seeing the love between his friends and their women made it tough to be the odd man out all the time.

Jessyka Allen had a good life, until it wasn’t anymore. Finding herself in an impossible situation, with no noticeable way out, her job was an escape. Working at the small Bar and Grill put her in contact with some wonderful people, who Jess figured couldn’t ever understand what she was going through.

Being a SEAL, Benny thought he knew the true meaning of teamwork and friendship. But Jess would show him that everything he thought he knew about sacrifice, trust, and love, paled in comparison to what she brought into his world.

**Protecting Jessyka is the 6th book in the SEAL of Protection Series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s recommended you read the books in order to get maximum enjoyment out of the series.

This woman is pure magic on paper or ereader. I love everything I've ever read by her (yes, I've read all of her books) and I know that will never change. I literally happy danced when I learned Jessyka would find her HEA with one of the guys. Jess is the group's usual waitress at Aces, their regular hangout spot. She's always friendly, without crossing any lines, she's good at her job, and genuinely seems to like working with the public. However, Kason, aka Benny, has started to notice that Jess isn't her normal self and acts like she's hurting, aside from her usual limp which has never impeded her job. After worrying over Jess and the recent changes in her behavior, Benny feels guilty that they haven't gotten to know her on a more personal level since they're always seeing her. I love that Jess has a handicap in regards to her hip, something she's dealt with since birth, as it shows her strength and determination. I also fell in love with Benny even more as he shares with Jess what he sees when he looks at her. *le sigh* You'll see what I mean and melt into a puddle of goo. I'm still scraping myself up a little from the floor.

Jess is stuck in a horrible situation, yet, she's staying for one reason only, Tabitha. That's all I'm saying on that. You'll have to read for the full effect and all the flipping feels Susan gives us. *cries* Jess sees how loving the guys are with their women and doesn't think she can have that. Right now she's just trying to get by day by day. Enter Benny. They become friends and she starts to trust him. When the unimaginable happens, she calls him and he rushes to help her. Their friendship is slowly turning into something more, something beautiful, and lasting. But first, Jess's past needs to be dealt with. A smackdown is given, someone is rescued, love is found, and a future is started. But, Susan never does the expected, so enjoy the twist. It's brilliant and it was needed for numerous reasons. If you haven't read this series before, I highly recommend starting with book 1, Protecting Caroline. Trust me, you'll want to read all of them. Then you'll join me as I'm huddled in a corner, bawling incoherently as I await Tex's story, Protecting Melody, which is due out in September. You'll also want to thank me for the recommendation. I love Amazon Gift Cards. ;-) Go now and get your SEAL on. Make sure you have the time to read it beginning to end, because you'll

My feelings for this series has been all over the place. Some I've loved, others not so much. The latest novel in the "SEAL of Protection" series was a disappointment for me. I wasn't impressed with either Benny or Jessyka as there was nothing special about either of them. Perhaps because I thought their story took a back seat to the real story. If you’ve have or haven’t read any of the books, let me sum it up for you.

“Protecting Jessyka” is about the latest alpha-male SEAL, Benny, who doesn’t have a woman to love. He reminds us that his SEAL buddies are so happy and so in love and that he wants what they have. He gives details about each woman came to be with their respective SEAL, their story, and how they each had to be rescued by their “man.” He loves each of the women. He thinks his buddies are so lucky and decides he wants what they have. He meets the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Explains to her that she’s it for him and vice-versa. Tells her how everyone will love her. Tells her about each SEAL member and how they met their respective woman (again), how they saved them, and how they continue to protect them. The heroine then enjoys an amazing evening out with all the women drinking, laughing, and acting ridiculous always with one SEAL member always present to watch over them. They end up getting new clothes without having to dip into their savings. They have slumber parties, get drunk, and cry over missing their men who’ve gone on a mission. The heroine then finds herself in trouble. The men call Tex because he’s the only one who can find her whereabouts with all his computer skills. The SEAL team gathers to kick ass. She’s found. The couple fall in love. The end.

Take out the names “Jessyka” and “Benny” and replace them with any other character and you’ve got the plot for each novel in the series. This in turn had me skimming thru the pages as I’ve read it five times already and don’t need to read it for the sixth time. In fact, not only was all this drama rehashed, the author went into more detail with each couple all the while pushing Jessyka and Benny’s story to the backburner. Their story makes for a short novella. I understand these details are given in case a reader can’t remember what the previous novels in the series was about, or if a reader picks up a novel out of order. But come on. Nothing changes. Each event is repeated, almost word for word.

When all is said and done, yeah, I’ll be reading the next book in the series. I’ve been wanting to read Tex’s story since book one.

As I think more about the novel I just read, I have to wonder about the ridiculous names some of the heroines are named.

"Jessyka" spelled "yka." Jessyka jokes that her parents must've been drunk when they filled out her birth certificate.

"Summer" whose middle name is "James" as her parents were certain they were having a boy and was all set to name him James. Not having a clue what to name their daughter, they named her "Summer" as she was born in July.

"Alabama Ford" who's named for the state and car she was conceived in.

It's as though the heroines are supposed to have ridiculous or misspelled names to tie into whatever their story is, whether it's not being wanted by a parent, becoming destitute, or physically abused. Not only are the heroines suffering from one thing or another, they're also plain to look at, always amazed when they receive a compliment about their looks, and always having to be rescued from one predicament or another by their man. Maybe I'm reaching or maybe I'm just plain tired. Out of all the six heroines in this series, Caroline is my favourite, followed by Fiona.

***4.5 Stars***

This was a great read, one of the best I've read in the 'SEAL of Protection' series.

Hero: Kason “Benny” Sawyer was the last single man on his Navy SEAL team. He was feeling a bit left out and had considered transferring to another team. It had become painful to be the last man who didn't have a woman to love.

Heroine: Jessyka Allen is a beautiful woman in her mid to late twenties? or there about. She is the waitress who always waits on the SEAL team and their women at least weekly. But, lately she is feeling down. Her parents moved to Florida and she was left alone. She needed a place to live and her ex-boyfriend, whom she remained in a friendship with, offered her one of the bedrooms in his apartment. He eventually began to physically abuse her, and worked very hard at destroying her mental and emotional health. She has a permanent limp (born with it) and was steady on her feet as long as she didn't rush or try to run. Her ex had a niece who depended on Jessyka as a lifeline. She knew if she moved out the girl would be left alone and she was afraid she would end up hurting herself.

One late evening around 11 PM Kason paid her a visit at the bar where she waitressed. He had noticed that she had been acting differently and seem to draw into herself. She didn't believe he had really come for her. She had watched all the SEALS in years past before they found their forever women and knew they all came to the bar to pick up women...often! He tried his best to convince her that over the last several months he had noticed her personality changing and he felt she was in some kind of trouble. Since she had been wearing a turtleneck sweater in So Cal he was pretty confident that she was covering bruises and abuse. She was certainly not quick to believe him because no one had ever cared what happened to her since she moved away from home. Kason gave her his contact info and pretty much begged her to call him if she got into trouble or if anyone tried to hurt her. He stressed to her that he wanted to be her friend and look out for her. I would have liked to see a heroine who was stronger and not afraid of her shadow.

One evening he answered his phone and she told him she was in troubled and had been beaten and off the the rescue he goes. Their lives will never be the same again. This is a great story and a bit different than the previous ones. I definitely recommend it.

Protecting Jessyka is the 6th book in the SEAL of Protection series. This one is about Jessyka, the waitress from Ace's. Jess has been around since Caroline and Wolfe's book, so she knows the guys fairly well. Jess has a physical ailment that causes her to limp but she doesn't let it stop her. Jess is hiding a secret. One that she's afraid to tell. She suffers abuse at the hands of someone who's supposed to be her friend. She fears that she has no where to go, so she stays. Her decision to stay is one that all abuse victims face. t takes a tragedy to force Jess' hand and give her the push she needs.

I love Jessyka's character. She doesn't succumb to the limitations that her ailment could cause. She doesn't hold back and does what she wants. She's a little different than the other characters. She's not the damsel in distress. Towards the end, she proves that she can hold her own. I love that Stoker wrote her character like that. To make it seem as if she has to be constantly saved, just says that she is weak because of physical limitations. Jess is not weak and Stoker shows that. Brilliant job in showing that Mrs. Stoker.

Benny is Jessyka's love interest in this book. The loner of the group, Benny feared that he would not find love. He notices that things are different with Jess. She seems to be hiding something and Benny is on a mission to find out what it is. His suspicions are confirmed and he sets his sights on protecting her. What he doesn't realize is that it's Jess who saves him. His solitary life is full once more. His life is no longer gray but now full of color.

This has to be one of my favorite books by this author. a reason is because the romance is not instant. Jess and Benny's romance developed over time. They have gotten to know each other before a relationship is perused. That made this book stand out from the others. The anticipation of this book is well deserved. I was not disappointed when reading this one. Stoker has a way at creating romance that pulls the reader in and gets them addicted from the very beginning. I cannot get enough of these SEALS. I am saddened that the series will be ending soon but I have my fingers crossed for future novellas. Hint hint Mrs. Stoker. =)

**I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a honest review.**

I'm re-reading Protecting Jessyka in preparation for reading a Kindle Worlds sequel, Betting on Benny, since it's been almost a year since I read it for the first time. It's still a good book. Navy SEAL Kason "Benny" Sawyer realizes that there's something wrong with his favorite waitress, Jessyka, and jumps in to help her, when her abusive ex-boyfriend attacks her.

Okay, the SEALs in this book should have called the police when they realized that something was wrong with Jessyka (and Benny). But they do a lot of things they probably wouldn't get away with in real life in Stoker's romance novels. Still, the characters are compelling and the romance is sweet. Plus, Jess is smart and spunky, and Benny is a real sweetheart. Overall, it's a very good book.

✰✰✰ 5 STAR REVIEW!!!✰✰✰

I was lucky enough to be gifted an ARC by the author and my review is my honest opinion for this book.

When life gives you the chance to be with the one you have been waiting, don't let it escaped. But the question is will you recognized the opportunity when is in front of you?

Jessyka Allen was a strong woman with a small physical disability but that never stopped her from achieving whatever she wanted, her spirit was strong but lately her spirit was down thanks to Brian her ex-boyfriend and roommate. Jessyka was living a nightmare and she wished she had someone to share this hell she was in. Until kason "Benny" Sawyer came into her life.

Kason "Benny" Sawyer was the last of the SEALS single and he knew he was missing something in his life and the thing he was missing was a woman to love and protect. He wished he had what his brothers had, Benny had seen Jessyka around it seemed she was their regular waitress and he notice she was not he same vivacious Jessyka he knew. For some strange reason he felt the urged to be near her and helped her but will she let him?

Benny and Jessyka start their relationship as friends but at the end of the day one of them will end up being saved by the other. This two knew they were perfect for one anther, but who will ended up being saved?
Benny and Jessyka will teach you a great life lesson in life, the love, respect and loyalty from family doesn't necessarily come from blood relatives, loyal best friends that you love and respect from are your true family.

Protecting Jessyka is for me one of the most powerful book from the SEAL of Protection Series. This two characters will show you how strong the bond of the whole gang is and they will stop at nothing for one of their own. The love, and respect Benny has for Jessyka and vise versa is so strong you will be thinking about the book long after you finish reading it.

You will love the plot of the story, it contains the right amount of emotions, action and sex to balance it out, however you will find yourself thinking about Benny longer than you will realize. If you haven't read this series I strongly recommend for you to do it, you will not be disappointed.

This book can be read as a stand alone, however we recommend for you to the whole series in order to enjoy and understand every single character.

I received this book as an ARC from the author. I started the book at about 8p and couldn't put it down until I read it all the way through! I was worried about how the author would handle any situations in the newest Protecting book and was surely surprised with the twist in this one. I've always loved strong heroines and all the women in the series certainly are that, but Jessyka goes beyond even them with what she has been through and still deals with. I believe I've found my favorite in the series! (At least until we see what Tex comes up with!)

I received a advanced readers copy and let me tell you, this book gutted me. It was like Susan knew me growing up and wrote this book about me. From Brian, to Tammy, to so many other things that I don't wanna include. I hate spoilers in my reviews but let's just say, my ex....was Brian and he was so abusive it was not funny. You just can not help falling in love with Benny, Jessyka's night in camo lol. I laughed, I cried and then laughed some more. Thank you Susan for yet another amazing journey!

Once again Susan Stoker has written an amazing story in the Seal of Protection series. This time we learn the story of Jessyka, a waitress at Ace’s that is dealing with more than her share of problems. Jessyka has a physical ailment that causes her to limp but she also suffers from abuse at the hands of her roommate. She wants to leave but there is one special reason why she stays. Benny is dealing with issues of his own. As the last single man in the group, Benny yearns for a loving relationship of his own. He seeks out to help Jessyka as a friend but the chemistry between the two could not be denied. These two might possibly be my favorite couple of the series. The romance between the two unfolded naturally and the problems that arose were a very delicate subject that was handled in the best possible way. I look forward to reading the next book in the series with Tex and seeing more of Jessyka and Benny and the whole group.

5 Deliciously Dramatic Stars!

If you're looking for real-life drama, a slow build up of deep passionate love and a believable storyline then keep going this one is not for you.... HOWEVER..... If like me, you are in the mood for some deliciously hot insta-love filled with addictive over the top drama, a bevy of wonderful strong loving females and more tantalising military alpha males then you could ever dream of, then this serious is DEFINITELY the one for you.

As with each book before it, I was completely hooked from start to finish. Stoker had me worked up in a crazy lust for Benny and completed consumed by the dramatic storyline. I absolutely love these characters and this series. It is my go-to series when I want a good exciting romance read and so far Stoker has not disappointed me!

This really is a series worth checking out. Personally, I think it just keeps getting better!

Although.... Did we ever actually find out why he is called Benny?????

I've really come to love and expect the OTT alphaness and ALMOST, just "this" shy of weak, always in distress h's that need them. But this one was a little different. Although Benny came across as SS typical male, he made some stupid mistakes along the way. Mistakes my Alpha's and normal SS Alpha's just wouldn't make. The h also was a little OTT in her admiration of the group. I get it, she wanted to belong, but belong, don't obsess. She was constantly all about being one of them and not just "being her" with them. I don't know if I explained that right, but that;s how I feel. It almost separated her more from them by always talking about wanting to be one of them.
Again, this one just didn't give me the ooey-gooey-ness I come to love and want from SS. Still liked it, but didn't love it.

I have been following this series from the beginning and have loved the evolution of the love and friendship these seals and their women have. I appreciate how she discusses disability and the possibility of children in these intense relationships. Susan is a writer who can capture you from the first page and make you not want to put the book down. In this story we get to see two people who live very recluse lives (Benny and Jess) who come together in friendship and end up in love. If you love a good heartfelt romance novel with some awesome and intense love sessions you will love this book. I give it a five star rating!!

Better than the last one. The author really needs to stop using the term "sex on a stick". It's not cute, it's not funny, it's not new, or hip...and when you use it over & over & over again it becomes annoying and stupid(er).

Cheesy as always, but the story was sweeter than Dude & Shy's. Also, I was very gratified by Jess's actions at the end. Well done!

Six down, then Tex to go and I've read all the team’s stories. None were really great, some were good for what they are, others less so. If you're into cheesy fluff with a bit of spice, then you'll probably like 'em.

This is Susan's 6th book in the Seals series. I have done the OMGs and the WoWs on all her books, but this one goes beyond those two words. The twists in the story really surprised me!! And the "cliff-hanger" at the end....OMG....I can hardly wait for the next book to come out!!!

This is a must read if you like and adventure!!

Beh, per fortuna c'è Tex, no?

I started SS books in a later series, and I have to say she's come a long way. While I enjoyed this story, it feels a little like before the #metoo time, and all her later books are after, because there is a lot of yes Kason no Kason, OMG is he mad at me, and don't get me started on Brian, honestly that set up was just too unrealistic.

Maybe I shouldn’t listen to all these books so close together.

I was really excited for this book. I loved that it was about Jess, their waitress at Aces. But I was a little bored with this one. It just felt like a more watered down version of all the other books. Listening to them so close together, I’m realizing the characters are all the same. The heroine’s react the same way in all the books. The Hero always has a moment where they lay it all out there in a gruff sort of way. He lets her know she’s his. And the heroine always responds with “I don’t understand.” 🙄 I don’t know if it’s the narrator that I’m tired of or the writing but I think I need to take a break.

Benny is the last of their group to find a woman, besides Tex, whose story I really want to read... but I’m going to let some time pass first. Anyway, Benny starts noticing Jess, their waitress at Aces has changed. She has become more withdrawn and started showing signs of abuse. He makes it his mission to get to the bottom of it.

To start off, Jess is in one of the weirdest situations I've ever read and it was incredibly difficult to try to just go with it. She met this decent guy in high school, they dated in college, broke up for whatever reason, still stayed friends with him, and then decided to move in with him as a roommate. Like I said, weird. But then you find out she stays with this same former boyfriend now just her friend and roommate who recently started to...abuse her. Oooooookaaaaaay. Abusive boyfriend I get, but abusive roommate? Keep in mind this was her friend before and after they called it quits? I don't care if the excuse was drugs, the point is they're friends and roommates but he treats her like his girlfriend and she takes it because she doesn't want to abandon his bullied niece. It doesn't make any sense. All she had to do was tell Tabitha she was moving out but that nothing was changing for them and to continue visiting her in her new home instead of just telling her she was leaving giving the impression she wasn't gonna be around for her anymore. Oh and the way she worded it to Tabitha was that she was "leaving him" not her. That's a funny way to put it considering they're not together in a relationship...Again this plot was just very weird.

The meddling women make an appearance again and do their best at taking over another girls life by...yup you guessed it! Shopping. Is this all that these girls are good for? Going out for drinks once a month and shopping the rest of the time? The only mention of jobs is when Caroline feels like taking a break from including herself in every one of the guys and girls lives to go to work once a year to make a major breakthrough in research. Alabama is taking classes and she obviously has a life away from these nosy girls (thank God one of these girls has a brain) because she isn't seen much and doesn't seem like her life revolves around these girls as her only friends and source of entertainment. Cheyenne no longer needs to work anymore, her only job now is to be waiting to service Faulkner when he needs it. The other girls are just there, no indication of a life or job outside of their little circle of husband, husband's friends, and their wives, by default now their friends.

The romance actually wasn't as bad as the others but it wasn't exactly up to par like Alabama's story. It was decent at best, still a little fast but an improvement over the others because I actually felt a connection between them that wasn't purely sexual or physical attraction. It was based on friendship and trust. It also helped that they were already acquainted and familiar with each other. I liked that they were just friends for a bit and that Kason didn't bombard her with all these fast "I want you" declarations that the other guys had pushed onto the other girls. It was nice to see someone with genuine friendly intentions at first and that didn't resort to caveman antics. Kason was definitely my favorite alongside Christopher before his screwup. He knew what he wanted but didn't try to force Jess into something she didn't want or wasn't ready for.

Jess was a nice breather compared to the other girls besides Alabama. She actually had a brain that worked and didn't spend all her time feeling sorry for herself and comparing herself to every other girl on the street. She was confident before Brian started abusing her and got that confidence back when she moved in with Kason. She's comfortable with who she is besides her limp. That was her only setback which she learns to embrace after getting to know Kason better. I liked that she behaved normally and wasn't such a downer always feeling like she wasn't good enough or she didn't have anything to offer the man interested in her. Only thing that would have made her better was if she channeled her inner Cheyenne and we saw her slam Summer with a verbal warning of her own. Oh and if she hadn't given that very cheesy monologue at the end about everyone as a couple. It was unnecessary and corny and repetitive. We've heard the SEAL magic word too many times to count, we've heard the "I'm a SEAL" conversation over and over again, and we've heard every single girl's story summed up when a new heroine is introduced to the group, so much that these book plots are ingrained in my head for life and I'll remember them even if I get Alzheimer's when I'm old...

The rescue scene in this book was actually decent and a nice change. I especially liked that Jess herself was able to get justice for Tabitha and that she fought back and got it for herself as well. It was fitting and I didn't think less of her. Actually, I don't think I could picture it any other way and was glad to see the writer do something different with both of the main characters and the story. Kason wasn't a sex obsessed, pushy, over the top, alpha jerk. Jess wasn't a whiny, dim-witted, loser with no self-esteem. The story took a heroine to a place I never thought possible with this writer and I loved it. This one is actually worth the effort. I probably won't pick it up again but I don't regret reading it either.

Jessyka is the waitress at Ace’s Bar who we’ve seen throughout the series. When her ex gets very abusive, Kason “Benny” and the team step in to help. The author has a formula. This time she broke with it somewhat, and the result was just fine. We never got to hear the story behind Benny’s nickname! After all of these books with Tex helping out, I’m so ready for the next book! I read the ebook. 4/5

There's something addictive about these books. After the last one I wasn't sure I wanted to spend the money on this one. I didn't like it at all! However, I found myself wondering what happened to the SEAL team. In spite of complaining that the plots were all the same, I just couldn't let it go. So I pitched this one anyway. I had always been intrigued by Jessyka' s character, wondering just who she was, why she was waitressing in a bar, and why she walked with a limp. Since Kason was the only member of the team without a mate, it stood to reason the two of them would wind up together.

I did enjoy the story itself, although a lot of information learned in the first books was repeated here, as well as some of the scenes. For instance, in every story the SEALs go on a mission so their women have a slumber party, get wasted, and cry about their men being gone. After five or six times it's gotten old. Either that or they take the new girl out shopping and splurge on her. And for some reason all the women have become big potty mouths. This wasn't the case in the first few books. Regardless of that, it was the people themselves in this one that kept my interest. I found both Jessyka and Kason very appealing. Yes, Kason was very alpha, very protective of her but she was also that way with him to the point that in a complete change of pace, she saves him in the end.

When the story opens, the guys have noticed changes in Jessyka' s behavior and the way she's dressed. She's started wearing long sleeves in hot weather. She doesn't smile as much or go out of her way to be friendly like before. And when Kason touched her arm she actually flinched. He knows something's wrong so he pressures her to open up to him, telling her he wants to help her if he can. Turns out she's living with her ex until she saves enough for her own place. He's become abusive with her and while she could go to a shelter, she has his niece to consider. She's sort of taken the girl under her wing. At fourteen and overweight, Tabitha doesn't have any friends, her mom is seldom around, and her uncle is always putting her down. Jess doesn't feel like she can leave her so she puts up with Brian's treatment for Tabitha' s sake. When it gets to be too much, she calls Kason.

While I gave this three stars, I do give the author kudos for the characters and the change up in the plot.

Loved it, Susan's books have a habit of drawing you back in. You can read a series once, and after a while you will still enjoy coming back and reading about your favourite characters, Benny is my favourite, how he is the last to be single is beyond me! 😉 Jess has been through hell, but Benny will be her hero! Short story- 20 chapters but still a page Turner. Jess is a Heroine all on her own, too; love makes you brave! Make sure you read the other seal of protection books because you won't be disappointed.

Warming domestic abuse and violence in this book.

5 Stars!!!

I was given this book in turn for an honest review!!!

Benny has known Jessyka for months and recently her whole demeanour has changed; determined to get to the bottom of it Benny sets out on a mission to discover what Jessyka is hiding. Will Jessyka open up to Benny? Will they both find more than just a friendship between them?

Susan Stoker has truly excelled with Benny’s story in the SEAL of Protection series. Protecting Jessyka is enthralling from the start; I couldn’t put this book down. Susan Stoker never ceases to amaze me with her writing. Although I know Susan’s books will always end with a happy ever after, the way in which Susan delivers that story is different every time, she never fails to have you sat on the edge of your seat with what’s going to happen next. I loved Benny he was cute and HOT all in one, he was a protector and he would do whatever it took to protect those he cared about. Jessyka is an amazing character the rapport between her and Benny had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion. I also admired her strength considering what she had been through. The love I feel for this SEAL team gets stronger each time I read one of the Seal of Protection books; the commitment, strength and love they have for each other is outstanding, you wish you were apart it.

If you love Military romances with suspense and a happy ever after you will absolutely love the SEAL of Protection Series by Susan Stoker. Protecting Jessyka can be read as a standalone, however to fully enjoy the series I recommend reading them in order starting with Protecting Caroline.
