Many of her novels are paranormal or time-travel romances. She has been awarded the Romantic Times BookClub Award for Best Time Travel for Timeswept Lovers and the Romantic Times BookClub Award for Best Contemporary Fantasy Romance, Second Chances.

In 2001, O'Day-Flannery took a hiatus from writing. She spent three years living in Ireland before returning to the United States and continuing her writing career.

I picked this up in a used bookstore because I remember reading this ages ago, when I first discovered romances thanks to a naughty aunt. This was pretty dated and terrible, but it was fun to revisit for nostalgia's sake.

I’m sure I would LMAO if I read this today but I adored when I was in high school because the heroine goes back in time and is a con artist so she wins a poker match with the hero. But the hook that really got me was that she had contact lenses. Luckily they were near the ocean so she could use the salt water for her saline solution. That meant I could go back in time even though I had contact lenses! Yay!

Read for library book club, theme 'what's up with this cover?'. I found this at a used book store and bought solely because of the cover. The front is the typical beautiful 90's clinch, I could tell it was some kind of pirate/tropical/historical romance. But the BACK has the same couple plus a set of SCUBA gear! What is scuba gear doing in this historical setting???? well, the heroine is living her life in the late 1980's, getting over a divorce and death of her dear mother, travels to Bermuda on vacation and goes scuba diving. While diving, she finds treasure and as soon as she touches it is transported back to the 1800's, post US civil war. She meets the hero, underwater, and he assumes she's a mermaid.

Then... plot chaos ensues. the hero is pretending to be his brother, to marry someone for revenge, but the heroine swaps places with that chic, and gets real married to the hero. He has never seen the fiancé before, so marries the heroine and ... kidnaps her? Then goes back to look for that treasure, the heroine messes with him a bit, still scuba diving for treasure as a mermaid.

THEN... they get caught in a storm heading back to the US, lost out at sea, stranded on a desert island with a friendly duck. He, of course, doesn't believe she's a time traveler, which makes her very upset. THEN... they are rescued, but pretend to be dead for awhile back in the US because the hero is doing a revenge plot on his uncle. Meanwhile the heroine accidentally tells people she's Napoleon's niece, hustles the uncle in poker, ... oh and they pretend to be ghosts and also pretend to be klansmen to rob the uncle. Its bonkers. There's so much plot I can't even keep all of it straight.

It was good for a throw back read, but I don't think I would recommend it to newer romance readers. And it was the last in a series from the epilogue!

The plot is bonkers, but that is expected from an 80s historical romance that includes time-travel. The only way to enjoy this is to suspend your disbelief because the time travel part is pretty loose on the believability. However, Kate is great FMC and was a lot of fun to follow!

If there hadn't been so many dated ideas and aspects to the book itself (being written in the 80s and it takes place mostly in the southern U.S. in the late 1860s, so not great references) the rating would be higher.

I enjoyed reading this book. I love the time travel aspect of it.
It’s heartbreaking when you hear about how a mother could let a child go unloved his whole life due to the sins of his father.

It’s honorable how Michael’s older brother stood by him. Kevin is really sweet.

First paragraph:

Bermuda, 1987
It was supposed to be her time. Her time, her friends and relatives had proclaimed-to live, to enjoy life. She deserved it, they had murmured comfortingly. She had been a good daughter. Looking about the lovely room, Kate Walker shook her head. They hadn't known her mother, not really, she thought as she made her way to the balcony overlooking Bermuda's Hamilton Harbour. Leslie Walker had been one hell of a woman, before her stroke, and even after. Gazing out to the lush scenery before her, Kate couldn't help experiencing a rush of relief. She was out of it ... all of it . . . for two glorious weeks. In the three- months since her mother's funeral, she'd listened to consolation, advice, and had even had to put up with her ex-husband's frequent calls. But not now... not now. Her well-meaning friends had been right about one thing though-this was going to be her time.

What a neat little gem of a time-travel romance. I selected this book because it was published in 1987 and would enable me to close out a long-standing reading challenge. I thought I might not like the 'dated' feel to the romance writing, but I was wrong. The character of modern-girl Kate Walker was a lot of fun, and her sense of joy and adventure and spirit really made this book for me. Granted, she pulled a couple of stupids, but then again, who wouldn't if they were transported back in time to just after the American Civil War? As usual with these types of books, a heavy dose of suspension-of-belief is necessary to survive the tale.

Quite enjoyable.

I WANT TO BE STRANDED ON A DESERTED ISLAND W/MICHAEL!

Constance O'Day-Flannery has lassoed me in & kept me under tight reins w/the rope, I've been snared in. In merely an hour, I read the first 100 pages, I've never read anything that quickly before. This novel will literally have you on the edge of your seat, capturing you're full attention until the very end. The connection & ignited fire Michael & Kate possess is absolutely breath-taking.

Even though this novel was written in "87" it's extremely easy to relate to. I've just bought other novels written by Constance, & I'm literally ecstatic to read them. This novel definitely DESERVES WELL BEYOND A 5 STAR RATING!!

This was the first time travel book I've ever read. The storyline is great and the characters were very likable. I would recommend this book for anyone who has a good imagination.
