Free Fall #2

Chase the Sun

Rate this book
Jamie Tolland has only ever known his small Oregon town. Same job, same friends, same gay bar. He feels obligated to stay, especially as his mother’s illness progresses. But when a situation presents itself in the form of a vintage sports car, he jumps on the chance to not only repair it, but also drive it to its new owner in LA.

Conner Murphy left Oregon years ago to make his life in West Hollywood. Like his unconventional parents, he’s always been a free spirit, never settling on one job or girl for too long. When he inherits his late uncle’s classic Chevelle, he’s more than happy to let his childhood friend Jamie help.

Jamie and Conner are as different as night and day. Even after years of living apart, they still have a blast together—but now it’s mixed with an undeniable spark of attraction. Before they know it, they can’t keep their hands off each other. For Conner it’s all new and exciting, but Jamie isn’t the type of guy who takes this sort of intimacy lightly.

Conner soon realizes that Jamie quenches something deep inside of him that no one has before, but he doesn’t know how to handle a real relationship. As Jamie’s time in LA comes to an end, and the more they struggle to get on the same page about their feelings, the more Jamie realizes that trying to tie Conner down is as futile as capturing the sun.

description

'Chase the Sun' is the second installment in Christina Lee & Nyrae Dawn’s newest m/m series and like the first installment, it was wonderfully written and so very sweet. These two authors know for sure how to deliver an engrossing, wonderful m/m romance and I’m so looking forward for the next installment/s in the series. While this one was not as emotional as the first book, it was well paced, the sweetness and sexiness fantastically blend and overall a really great friends to lovers story.

“He’s like fuel for my soul and he doesn’t even realize he’s got all of that inside him.”

Jamie and Conner grew up in the same small town in Oregon. They have never been the best of friends, but they had always like each other, both of them cherishing the sweet, fun moments they shared together when they were younger. Jamie never thought to leave the small town he grew up. Firstly, because he works at his father garage helping him with the business and secondly because of his mother’s illness. He likes his life enough. He’s not bored, but he can’t deny he would be happier with a little more excitement in his life. Conner left Oregon as soon as he finished high-school. He moved to West Hollywood wanting to escape the small town as soon as possible. He’s content with his life and like his parents he’s a free spirit wanting to enjoy his life to the fullest, to have fun and not settle on one job or a girl for too long. When Conner’s uncle passes away and leaves him a classic car, the two boys start to communicate with each other again via email. Jamie offers to fix up the car, eventually deciding to drive it to Conner in California since he needs a change of scenery. He decides to spend a few days with Conner since he wants to experience something else other than the simple life he always had lived in Oregon.

Conner and Jamie becomes friends from the very beginning, but slowly with every day that passes their friendship blossoms into something more, something that neither of them expected. But how their relationship can have a future since they live in different States and they have different ideas in relationships.

“Conner feels as vast and bright as the sun and I want to somehow absorb all of that heat and light so that it fills my dark and vulnerable places. All my lonely thoughts. He’s like fuel for my soul and he doesn’t even realize he’s got all of that inside him.”

This was such a sweet friends to lovers story! While the pace of the story was a little slow at times, I really enjoyed this one and I wasn’t bothered this fact at all. I liked the story-line and also the fact that there wasn’t any crazy angst and drama as the story progressed. Both main characters were fantastically developed and as much as I enjoyed their easy friendship, I have to say that I loved their romantic relation ship. I rooted for them from the very beginning. I liked the fact that the two boys were so different from each other. While Jamie was more shy, Conner was open in every way. To be honest I liked these two equally. Both of them were endearing in some way or another. I liked how Jamie accepted so easily the fact that Conner is so fluid when it comes to his sexuality. He was so sweet, caring and thoughtful as the story unfolded. Conner was funny and animated and so endearingly charming at times. I simply loved his personality. As for the connection between them, I truly felt it and it was wonderfully done.

“Everything makes a whole lot more sense when I’m kissing Jamie Tolland.”

I enjoyed the slow build between these two characters. They will give you all the feels. They were so sweet and so perfect for each other in every way. I lost count of the times they made me smile and swoon. I also loved the way, together, they discovered who they are individually, what they want and how great they can be together.

Overall, a sweet, heart-warming read! I’m really looking forward to these two authors’ third collaboration!

Chase the Sun is exactly what I was in the mood for: low angst, friends to lovers, humor, family, sexy times, and a really cool car.

Jamie is stuck living the small-town life and helping his dad take care of his mom who has multiple sclerosis. Conner, raised by hippy parents in an open relationship, jumps from job to job, relationship to relationship.

I loved that Conner wasn't hung up on defining his sexuality. He considered himself fluid and was more than happy to explore Jamie's body. There was no shame involved in him being bi.

Jamie is open and caring; he brings out the best in Conner. Conner worries he won't be able to stick to a monogamous relationship and doesn't want to make promises he can't keep. He's used to masking his feelings by being the outgoing, funny guy. But Jamie sees the real Conner and likes what he sees.

The MCs were clearly perfect for each other, and the relationship angst was minimal. There was no crazy miscommunication, no drama, just a low-key, mellow romance with a true HEA.

My last 3 books have not been good for me. And the only recurring theme I can see is that they are all NA. I think I'm just over the New Adult genre.

Once again I found myself not at all interested in a book. I had no desire to pick it up and read it.

Not much was happening. It just wasn't progressing enough to hold my attention.

Some other reviews said it does pick up. And where I stopped nothing had really happened between Jamie and Conner....so maybe it does.

I just couldn't bring myself to get there.

I don't think it helps that I seem to be in a major book slump.

So onward I go.....

5 stars for the audiobook

3.75 for the story

Tyler Stevens and Iggy Toma's narration kept me entertained, i was not able to finish book 1, the narration was so bad and could not bring myself to read the book, maybe i will someday. So glad they changed the narrators.

As for the story, it was sweet, cute and angst free, just a simple story about two friends falling in love. The smexy times were good, but i still felt there was something missing.

The Mc's were likable, I adored Jamie he was such a sweetheart and Conner's carefree and easygoing attitude was amazing.

Ladies, ladies, ladies: you have hit a home run with Chase the Sun! We have the best of both worlds here: friends to lovers AND opposites attract! Y'all must've had me in mind when you wrote this cause you know I love these type of stories. Lol ;) They did such a great job bringing together two different personalities. They were each other's missing piece.

My highlights:

-Opposites attract. As I mentioned above, they did an excellent job fitting together Conner who is outgoing and Jamie who is almost introverted. They also came from different backgrounds that taught to look the world differently.

-The characters. Both the protagonists and the supporting characters. I love series where each book is a different couple. It's always fun to catch up with old characters and see they're happy.

-Narration. It's told from an alternating, dual POV.

-Angst. There's angst, but there's also this also an underlining feel good, sweet vibe to the story.

-The slow burn. It was delicious, and once they got together, it was swoon-worthy.

-The end. It was everything I hoped for and more. Plus, I'm even more eager now for Ezra's book. I. NEED. IT.

What else can I say other than I loved this emotional story about these two complex characters? It's a touching story of love, family, loyalty, and believing in one's self. I loved the first one, but I loved this one even more. 5 Stars!

This is the second book in the Free Fall series. I have to admit it wasn't at all what I expected. I hoped it was going to be better than the first book, but unfortunately I feel like it wasn't. At least in the first book I was engaged by the story, but here nothing really happened for many chapters. The MCs meet face to face after many years at about 12%. Their emails weren't that great. I didn't feel a real connection between the characters. Not much attraction either. I was surprised when Conner started to think how hot Jamie was - out of the blue... or so it felt for me.

The writing was pretty common, pretty light I might add. Most of the book I was not invested into the story or the characters. In the first book we got the mental illness subject and it was interesting. Here we don't have anything to keep our interest, besides Conner being fluid in his sexuality and wanting to experiment with men.

The MCs jumped in bed pretty fast and again I have to admit I didn't feel a connection or many sparks between them. And I think the authors just... matched them and didn't make an effort to really focus on the attraction.

I think it's my fault in picking up this series. The angst in SO low and everything falls into place too easily for my taste. It was romantic and sweet, hot at times, but just not my thing.

A feel good and mellowing “friends to lovers” romance, between Conner and Jamie, one at ease and carefree, one shy and so adorable, both trying to figure out what their future can be. Their reconnection leads to awareness, not only about themselves but also about a committed relationship.

To be honest, the beginning felt a bit shallow but then, like a warm sunlight, the story charmed me with the down to earth vulnerabilities and rightful questions from both MCs.

A simple story (and simple is always a compliment from me) that left me with warm butterflies and a smile.

PS : Thank you, Smutty Elf , for this adorable gift

I don't know what happened here, but I enjoyed this one more than the first book. Maybe because Connor is more lay-back and funnier than Gabe and Lucas together and Jamie is so damn sweet!

This book definitely goes down a few notch on the angst department, and it makes a big difference between book 1.

We see Connor in the first book as Lucas' work friend. We don't actually get to know him, we just see he's kind of pushy and what he proposes, he does it. For example, become Lucas' friend. But the idea I got from him in this second installment is so different that I even though he was a completely new character. It was like the authors didn't know what they wanted to do with him and they made up their mind at the last second. I thought he was focused and 'mature' by the image of 'wanting more than work in a bar', 'wanting to take some classes and be somebody someday'. Ehmm, nop. What I came across in this book was some free spirit guy who is sexually fluid and get bores and quite jobs everytime he feels like it. Like wow, it wasn't what I was expecting.

Putting that on a side, Connor ends up being a great character. If you ignore what I thought of him at first, he's so amazing! He's light and warm as Jamie describes him. And Jamie, god, he's the cutest thing ever. They were definitely made for each other.

Regarding the sexy bits, you won't feel disappointed. The steam was crazy good, what they say about the shy people is true, folks. Jamie was crazy hot in bed and there's the perfect amount of steamy scenes to help with their new found attraction without transforming the story into some back-to-back sex book.

I liked that Chase the Sun is a cute and a fluffy read where you don't need to worry about eye-roll inducing drama that usually appears in this type of reading. The plot's incredibly good and fast-paced, as it was in Touch the Sky. It is the perfect book for when you need some light in your life.

So beautiful - Jamie and Conner had such perfect chemistry. This story was fun, romantic and made me smile. The journey of two young guys both carrying their own insecurities and vulnerabilities who decided to eventually throw caution to the wind and chase the sun ❤️ I really enjoyed this - stress free, heart warming story

A feel good, no muss love story.

Conner and Jamie were once friends as teens, and while Conner took his opportunity to leave his small town life in Oregon, Jamie is still stuck there, mostly out of circumstance and habit. Jamie doesn’t hesitate to bring Conner his inheritance, eager to experience something new.

These two quickly fall back into their easy friendship. Jamie is ready to indulge in all that L.A. has to offer, and he dives right in. Conner finds Jamie laid back, endearing, and not to mention cute. This tests Conner’s “anything goes” attitude, as his attraction to Jamie pushes the boundaries that define his sexuality. Conner’s zest for trying new things sets both he and Jamie on fire.

Understandably, Jamie doesn’t want to push Conner too hard, as he experiences his first foray into same sex shenanigans. He doesn’t want to get too attached because surely it’s just a fleeting thing, right? And Conner, never having had a stable home life, definitely doesn’t want the pressure of commitment since he doesn’t want to disappoint anyone.

This was of course sweet and smexy (though I do think the authors dropped the ball on the potential for fully fleshing out first time explorations). Not as heavy as the first book, I’m still always grateful for minimal relationship angst. Conner and Jamie only need to think hard about what they want and to go after it despite the risks. Their reward? Turning their strong attraction into something meaningful and long lasting.

I had a rough start with this book, but the second half made up for it.

Conner's narration felt kinda weird at the beginning and the way he described his sexuality was...didactic, I think that's the right word for it. And, honestly, just the fact that I felt it was an actual description shows that it wasn't smooth at all. You don't have to "convince" or educate your readers about these things. Conner was sexually fluid, period. Lets leave his actions speak for themselves.

The first half was a bit slow too, and I started getting bored but it really picked up later on. There are plenty of sexy times, and there's real chemistry between the MCs.

Jaimie was absolutely adorbs, and when Conner's walls came down, I relly liked what I saw behind the constant joking and happy go lucky attitude.

The families were important to the plot, but didn't take over the plot or overshadowed the couple at all.

Overall, it was a nice story. I'd like to read the next book in the series. Ezra maybe?

Conner and Jamie were so much fun to write! They made Nyrae/Riley and me laugh and swoon.

You'll see plenty of Lucas and Gabriel too (from Touch the Sky). <3

Connor and Jamie grew up in the same small town in Oregon, but their core differences could have had almost had them living on different planets. Connor's parents were the town hippies...known for smoking and growing weed, having an open relationship and being "free spirits". As soon as Connor could leave, he made his way to LA where he had a series of jobs as well as roommates and generally drifts his way through life. Jamie's family is more traditional. After graduating from high school, he works at the repair shop owned and run by his family, while continuing to live at home with his father and his mother who has MS. Connor's uncle dies and leaves him a vintage car, which Jamie, his childhood friend, offers to get running and bring to him in LA. When Jamie arrives the two of them start learning that there is more out there than the life that either of them had been living. They say opposites attract and it was certainly true of these two sweet guys. Connor, who is outspoken and vibrant, and Jamie who is shyer and more reserved, soon learn that together they bring out the best in each other. Together they are a couple that you can't wait to see their "together". This was a lovely story of two young men learning more about themselves, about life, even as they’re learning about falling in love.

This was another beautifully written new adult M/M romance by Dawn and Lee.

This series really nails those uncertain, scary and often overwhelming feelings you experience in your twenties – hell, at any time in your life, really – when you’re trying to find your way in the world; that terrifying uncertainty of what you want to do with the rest of your life, and whether you’re capable enough to achieve your utmost dreams. It’s some heady stuff and I could definitely relate to both Jamie’s and Connor’s fears and desires.

I liked both of these characters and I enjoyed the easy and angst-free progression of their relationship from old friends, to renewed friends, to lovers.

It took me a little while to get into this story, but I truly enjoyed the second half and finished up with a satisfied smile on my face.

“It might sound lame, but I don’t ever want to stop learning things about myself.

Most people seem to be afraid about that, afraid to look too deep and I don’t think there’s such a thing as too deep.”

Much - much better than the first part. Not perfect, but just enough that I could appreciate the character development and understand how the romance was built around it. I was curious to see what fun-loving, happy-go-lucky Conner's deal was - the bartender who had no real fixated interest in anyone, but was casually fluid in flirting with just about anyone. Never one to be tied down - never one to give his heart exclusively to just anyone - a carefree life. But, a blast from the past hits when he inherits his late uncle's prized vintage classic sports car, the last person he expects to reach out to have it restored by is twenty-two-year-old Jamie Tolland, his childhood friend - only too willing to return the favor in kind by having him come and experience the exciting life of West Hollywood - a far cry from the the simple and unwavering simple life of his small-town Oregon roots. And though they may not quite have anything in common, the one thing they can't deny how easily it is to be fall for each other - an inescapable chemistry that makes it possible for them to enjoy each other's company - even if it is just for now - even if it doesn't have to mean anything - even if there's something that seems so perfect - even if they both want to hold onto it - they just don't know how.

I liked Jamie; I liked his candor, I liked his honesty, his fresh appeal and hopeful expectancy of what thrilling experiences he'll get to have in his time in Hollywood. It's a far cry - an escape from the shadow of his own parents' problems - one marred with his mother's illness, and his father's rather downcast reaction to his own wife's concerns and issues. He's sacrificed his own happiness to stay behind for the family, that he's never treated himself to something special - a chance to live life with new dazzling adventures and escape the boring rut of his doldrum of a life. He was so patient and understanding of Conner's own inner turmoil of not relenting - 'your sexual prowess is so incredible that no one can touch you without falling in love with you?' - willing to take what he gives him without pushing for more. 😔 Conner is a breath of fresh air for him - a fun-loving, caring nature that reminds him of how he had been attracted to him when he was younger - an attraction that doesn't shy away from making itself known even now. And it was built up nicely; there's a certain sweetness to their love that made it easy for me to enjoy. Conner's slow dawning that he would be jealous of someone else spending time with Jamie was cute, and I liked how they eventually unlocked their grabby hands and explored the boundaries of their relationship. 😟

A smirk is plastered on his face but there’s something else there, too. Excitement. Attraction. Some tenderness. My heart beats double time.

Some of Conner's mannerisms kinda bothered me, at first; I don't mind about how he openly admits to being fluid in his attraction. I minded that he addressed himself as a slut at times - one who doesn't mind having it as much as possible, but as I learned more about him, I started to understand why he behaved the way he did; how his hippie parents lived an unconventional lifestyle - parents who were ones who had a very casual and open relationship - one that never had them sticking at one place long enough, or did not mind sharing physical intimacy with another person. It leaves an impression on a child, one which is just becoming evident to Conner; he starts to realize that isn't what he wants to have in life. 🥺 'You’re my friend, Jamie. It would kill me to hurt you, so I want to make sure we’re on the same page.' Spending time with Jamie, seeing the person he's become, someone a bit more confident in his skin as a gay man, someone who he feels comfortable around and who he wants to see happy because it sparks an interest in his heart to keep and have only for himself - these newfound emotions are a struggle to keep at bay and explain. And I appreciated that he was honest about it; that as much as he cared for Jamie, he also knows that there is the possibility that it could not last, that envisioning them together for the long run was an inconceivable concept for him - because 'my parents were all peace, love and sex and I just can’t see Jamie being that way.' Sticking around isn't in his nature - or is it? Is Jamie enough to convince him that he can be tied down to one heart - that he can defy the expectations of what he believes himself to live up to? 😥

So what I liked about Conner and Jamie's relationship? Free of angst and unnecessary pining, it was light-hearted and soft teasing and gentle flirting - 'almost innocent, full of wonder' as if they were both experiencing something for the first time. And in a way, they were; Jamie, who did not have much luck with other gay men back home, and Conner, who never knew what it would be like to be with a man, let alone to care for someone as deeply as he is starting to feel for Jamie. 'His happiness is infectious, and I realize I like making him happy. In a lot of ways, that’s just who I am. Like it soothes something inside of me that I didn’t know needed soothing.' 🥲 And it made me appreciate then how the trajectory of their dynamic would shift; that the reason behind who they were and the people they turned out to be - made sense. The shift between nature or nurture - growing up, the influence of their parents' impacted their lives and upbringing so greatly - that they were unable to form their own personalities and desires; unable to distinguish the difference between nature and nurture. It was only when they broke apart from it - when Conner and Jamie experienced a new thrall of feeling and desire with each other - were they able to perceive that maybe - just maybe - they would not have to follow in the footsteps of their parents. That they were destined and deserving of experiencing love in a different way. 🫶🏻

I want somebody to long to be with me. To realize they can’t live without me. That’s the person I want to be with.

And it developed at a steady pace throughout the narrative. Conner never gave a false pretense to Jamie that he could be his forever; and Jamie was fine with that. As much as it hurt, he understood that it was not something he could push him into accepting or giving into - he was too kind a person to force someone into returning their affections unwillingly. It was not Conner's fault that he felt that way - okay, maybe it was that he was so adamant in viewing himself not being able to settle down with one person. But, Jamie awoke within him a want to change. A want to be with one and only one person - not the wayward free-spirited love that his parents followed, but rather to fight for the chance to have that one person in his life. 🥹 I liked that; I liked that he saw his loneliness for Jamie not as a weakness, but a strength - strength that he had what it took to be different than his parents - that he always carried that caring part inside of him, he just never realized it - till he felt something so strongly for someone else. It was a very --- hmmm, familial-kind of dynamic that once both of them were able to come to terms with that part of their lives - it made opening up and loving each other all the more worthwhile. 💛💛 And Jamie, too, was able to break free from the constraints of his own family; how he had felt so tied down to the responsibility of caring for his parents, that he could never have an impossible dream - as impossible as reaching for the stars. And though the ending was slightly convenient and a little too cheesy at how blinding their love radiated happiness - it still brought a smile to my face at how their lives changed for the better - simply because they were brave enough to Chase the Sun. 🌅

Sweet story

I swore I wasn’t going to read more NA but these authors do write some good stories. This was a lovely tale of two young men learning more about themselves, even as they’re learning to fall in love. This was quite angst-free, which I appreciated a lot. It was a portrayal of growing up and spreading new wings, taking the kind of chances in life that many of us pass up. Conner’s self doubt was familiar, even though he was given different motivations for his. It wasn’t even an NA feeling book, really, other than the stage in life they were both at. The dialogue was mature and thoughtful. Very enjoyable.

4 stars – Anyone who has been reading my reviews for a while knows that, individually, Christina Lee and Nyrae Dawn (Riley Hart) are both authors I enjoy reading. Chase the Sun is their second collaboration together, and though I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as their previous novel, Touch the Sky, that’s a little like saying I don’t like peanut butter fudge quite as much as I like mint fudge. I happen to like them both. A lot.

Jamie Tolland and Conner Murphy were friends who grew up in the same small town in southern Oregon, but while Conner took his chance and left for West Hollywood right after graduation, Jamie stayed to work at his dad’s garage. Sure, he loves his family and the friends he has, but the longer he’s there, the more it feels like he’s in a rut, especially being gay in a small town. So when Conner’s uncle’s passing leaves Conner with a classic car, Jamie offers to get it running again and drive it down to California. Conner has always been like his parents, an uninhibited bohemian, never staying with a job or a girl for long. Even though they couldn’t be more opposite, Conner showing Jamie around L.A. turns out to be a good time for them both. When they discover the attraction between them, it’s an even better time. But Conner doesn’t believe he can handle anything serious, even though it’s never been like this with anyone else, and he knows he doesn’t want to hurt Jamie. Even as they grow closer, they both know that if there is to be a future for them, both will have to make big changes.

It took me a while to get into this story for a couple of reasons. As with Touch the Sky, Chase the Sun is written using alternating first-person perspectives. This style has the definite advantage of putting you in the story, because it sounds like you are experiencing things at the moment they happen. And while you eventually get both characters’ perspectives, the focus is on only one at a time. Probably the biggest challenge of this style is making sure the characters’ voices are distinct, otherwise it is very easy for the reader to be confused about whose point of view is being used. Here, as with the last book, Jamie and Conner sound a lot alike to my mind’s ear. Sure they are opposites in many ways, but unless references are being made to these things that are different, their similarities caused me to have to stop often to remind myself who the “I” is in the current chapter. And these chapters are very short. Every five minutes or so, a new chapter starts and the point of view switches. This made it difficult for me to solidify either character’s voice in my head enough to keep them separate for a large part of the story. It also felt like the story was treading water a lot in the first half. Maybe that was intentional to give the impression of both characters being stuck. Unfortunately, this didn’t help with my difficulty in distinguishing their voices, so up to about halfway through, I really didn’t feel the story.

Once things started happening, though, Jamie’s and Conner’s individuality began to shine through, and I started truly enjoying the narrative. From the start, we learn that Jamie is gay, but Conner is open to anything, not unlike his life in general. Watching them interact through the process of being reunited friends to becoming intimate and then to the realization that what they had was more than just a good time is full of the sorts of feels that I love when reading romance. And these two authors know how to make it just right. But beyond the sexual and romantic aspect of the book, the biggest thing I enjoyed was watching the transformation in each as it turned from Jamie being the innocent, sheltered one and Conner being the fun, anything-goes one to it becoming clear that Conner had the bigger challenge to overcome, figuring out what he wants.

I hate to keep making comparisons between this book and its predecessor, but there is one more thing they have in common: Jamie and Conner fit together in a way that’s rare in romance. I couldn’t explain it well when reviewing the other book either, but that same je ne sais quoi exists here. It’s special and apparently a talent these two authors have when working together. Whatever it is, even though getting into the story took me so long, once it had me, I was hooked and feeling every emotion they each had. Good timing too because that’s about the time the journey of personal growth kicked into gear for both characters. And that was as good ride as the romance.

Friends-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and Chase the Sun is a good example of why I like it so much. The issues here are believable, things that we all go through as we grow into our adulthood. And with Christina Lee and Nyrae Dawn telling the story, I knew it was going to be good.

The author generously provided me a complimentary copy of Chase the Sun in exchange for this fair and honest review.

Much better than book one and I attribute that solely to the narrators who made this so enjoyable to listen to. Iggy Toma and Tyler Stevens were outstanding as usual. They brought emotion to the voices of these young adults, Conner and Jamie, who are old friends and become new lovers when Jamie drives a classic Chevelle Conner inherited from his uncle, from their hometown in Oregon down to SoCal.

Conner is ostensibly straight though he admits to be interested in the person, not the gender, and might be willing to try a guy. By the end of the story, he not only tries, he falls in love with Jamie and puts it all on the line to win his heart.

Sweet young adult story, but I must admit if I heard the word cool one more time I was going to scream. I hope the authors get a Thesaurus before the next book they work on. Please.

3.5 stars rounded up!

This one wasn't quite as strong as the other books I've read in this series. Now I liked Conner and Jamie, both as individual characters and as a couple.

But that's just it. I liked them, but I didn't love them. They didn't wow me. The chemistry was fine, but it wasn't amazing. It didn't pull me in, they didn't pull me in. I liked them and I liked their scenes, but I didn't love them.

I enjoyed Conner from the first book so I was excited to read his story. Unfortunately his story didn't excite me too much. It was all very....okay. Likable, for sure, but not like amazing. I rounded up because it was good, it was well written and I did enjoy these two together.

But I had to go with 3.5 stars because of me liking them, but not loving them. There wasn't enough there between them and the story for me to love it. It was slow at times as well and not much happened.

Jamie is there in LA for a few weeks, he and Connor fall for each other, then he goes back, they determine they want to be together, and Connor goes back to their small town to fight for Jamie - which is sweet, but he doesn't have to fight all that much.

Like the only real conflict was just making the choice to be together. It was obvious Jamie wouldn't stay in his hometown and it was obvious Connor was going to choose to be with Jamie and get over his few hang ups. It wasn't very surprising or exciting.

I did appreciate the lack of drama, though. They didn't manufacture drama for drama's sake, which is a nice reprieve in romance books. Still think real conflict can happen without it being manufactured. And it didn't have to be dramatic either, just hurdles they had to work through. Why present potential problems if they're not really gonna be problems in the end?

So overall I liked this, I enjoyed it at times, and it was a sweet, enjoyable story. But there just wasn't enough for me to love it, there was something missing, and the chemistry wasn't as good as it could have been. The sex scenes also left a lot to be desired. They weren't as steamy as they could have been. So I liked this....I just didn't love it.

How do I put into words how much I love these kinds of books and how much they mess me up?

I loved Chase the Sun with all my heart. It was different from Touch the Sky, it felt lighter somehow, maybe because it doesn't deal with with such heavy subjects like the previous one did, but it still has his very deep feelings and insecurities that hit home in all that ways that I wish they hadn't.

It always those. Seeing myself in their insecurities and seeing the characters have something that I'll never have, always messes me up. I always have that "this will never be me" thoughts and "this is me; I can see this is me but when I look to myself I don't know what to do".

Messes me up, but I'm a big masochist because these books are always my favorites.

I love Connor and Jamie so much. They are both so different but both amazing. There are so many things in them that I relate to.

I love their relationship, I really, really do. I love how we see them fall in love and grow with each other. I loved every single moment between them.

It was nice that there wasn't this big drama or one of those parts of the book were they get mad at each other for silly reasons.

I loved it loved loved it. I have so many scenes playing to my mind making me all warm and fuzzy and smiling like crazy.

I loved the ending, but course it left me craving more. I wish we could have seen Connor's first time. I was really looking forward to that scene. We had a glimpse and it's was really good but I wanted more.

It was also really nice to see Lucas and Gabriel again. My babies look so happy and I'm so baby for and them.

I'm so, so, so ready for Ezra's book! So ready!

P.S: I can't believe they watch Shameless!! It's like the best thing!! I LIVED THE MENTIONS AND HOW MUCH CONNOR LOVES IT!! Netflix & pizza for the win!

W porównaniu z historią Gabe'a i Lucasa, niestety, ten tom wypada słabiej.

“Jamie.” I feel his fingers latch onto my arm. Damn, I
wish he wasn’t so touchy-feely. “Something wrong?”
“Not at all.” I swallow and bravely glance back at him.
“It’s just…it looks good on you.”
His eyebrows knit together. “What does?”
“Dreaming.”

I thought this was a sweet read and would recommend this to someone looking for a sweet read low on angst. When I first started this book I wasn't to fond of Connor but I understood him better the more I read about his upbringing. All in all great read! ;-)

Jamie Tolland is breaking out of his uneventful, smothering life in Riverfall, Oregon to deliver a car he restored to his old friend, Conner Murphy. Conner escaped Riverfall for L.A. and he is happy to have his old friend bring the car he inherited and stay for a visit.

Jamie is a young gay man craving new experiences, adventure, and a vision of life outside of his small town. He's shy, stuck in a rut, and unsure of his own appeal. His life in Riverfall in no way prepares him for the more open and chaotic life in California. In some ways he does not feel like he fits in, but in others he feels more comfortable.

Conner is free-spirited, vibrant, funny, and charismatic. He is not sure what he really wants to do with his life. He's antsy, flighty, and frequently moves on to new jobs or experiences. He has always casually dated or at least slept with women, but is also fluid and beginning to look at men a bit differently since he has been hanging out with his friends, Lucas and Gabriel.

This is a slow build as they reconnect their friendship, experience the sights of the city together, and the lines of friendship begin to blur as their interest in each other increases. It is a slow unraveling of their preconceived ideas of each other, and a simmering attraction that finally begins to boil over. I enjoyed the differences in their dynamics in different situations. In some ways Conner took lead and others Jamie did. Being with a man is a whole new world for Conner and makes him even more vulnerable.

But they have conflicting ideas on relationships and commitment. Jamie is the settling down relationship kind of guy, while Conner does not think he ever will be. Conner's never had a true constant stabilizing influence in his life, and he often gets bored and changes direction. Conner is full of light that brightens up Jamie's world, but he has so many fears holding him back. It leaves Jamie chasing after it with little hope of ever catching it.

This is a journey for both of them. Jamie is seeing life outside the constraints he has lived under and finding a place he feels comfortable. But he also has strong ties at home that pull him back in. Conner has more issues to face. He hides his vulnerability with humor and an easy-going facade, but he really lacks self-worth and has a fear of failure, feelings, and rejection. It is easier to avoid attachments, opening up, or making decisions. He needs to learn to believe in himself and that he can stick with something and have others believe in him too. But he is also someone that takes care of others when needed as we saw in the first book with Lucas and even how he took Jamie in. Together they have potential to have a brighter future, but it all depends on if they can face their fears and be willing to chase the happiness that is just out of their reach.

I was excited to spend more time with Lucas and Gabriel from Touch the Sky. And Ezra, Gabriel's former and Conner's current roommate, was also featured and I am more intrigued by him than ever, so I am hoping for a book three. I liked their friend, Henry, and there was a tiny tease of another character that I have a feeling might reappear as well.

This one was not quite as emotionally complex, heartbreaking, or as full of secrets as book one. Conner had more issues to unravel and deal with than Jamie, but they were not at the level that Lucas and Gabriel had to overcome. I will admit at times I had a hard time remembering whose point of view I was in even though they are clearly marked in the chapter titles, but it did not affect my enjoyment that much. I did really like both of these guys and how their story progressed. It was a slower build, but I did feel their connection and chemistry.

This was a sweet, funny, heartfelt story with two young men trying to find a true home, purpose, and hope for a brighter, happier future. But along the way they have some hard decisions to make and growing to do. I really like the writing styles and character development of Christina Lee and Nyrae Dawn (Riley Hart) so their collaborations will always be go-to reads for me. They have the ability to suck me into a story and make me fall in love with their characters, and this one was no exception.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Watching Conner and Jamie fall in a love is a joy. They were friends as kids and while Conner has never been with a man he has always had an open sexuality.

Jamie leaves his small town and gets to experience LA. This book is a little love note to Los Angles which is always a treat because it is a great unrated city.

Conner is open hearted and kind and sunny but he has layers and complexities. The family lives of our heroes add textures to this love story as do the circle of friends.

Then, we get s pretty sweet romantic gesture to send us on your HEA way.
