Rough Riders #3

Cowgirl Up and Ride

Rate this book
Ridin the edge of lust is fun until someone falls in love.

A Rough Riders book.

Goody-two boots AJ Foster has waited her entire life for her dream cowboy Cord McKay to see her as more than the neighbor girl in pigtails. Now that she s old enough to stake her claim on him, she s pulling out all the sexual stops and riding hell-bent for leather straight for his libido.

Divorced rancher Cord has sworn off all women until innocent AJ suggests he teach her how to ride bareback and he realizes she doesn t mean horses or bulls. Between his responsibilities running his massive ranch, missing his young son and dealing with the sexual shenanigans of his brother and cousins, Cord is more than willing to take AJ up on her offer. On a trial basis.

The fun and games tie them both up in knots. AJ isn t willing to settle for less than the whole shootin match with her western knight. But for Cord, even though the sexy cowgirl sets his blood ablaze, he s determined to resist her efforts to lasso his battered heart.

Sweet, determined AJ has the power to heal or heel the gruff cowboy unless Cord s pride keeps him from admitting their relationship is more than a simple roll in the hay."

I loved this book-- my favorite of the Rough Riders series so far! I couldn't put this one down, and it even made me cry at the ending. It was wickedly hot, even raunchy at times, yet there was really a decent story going on too.

AJ Foster has had her eye on sexy cowboy rancher Cord McKay for years, but he barely notices her. He's 13 years older than her, and only thinks of her as his younger sister's best friend (if he thinks of her at all) or as his young son's one time babysitter. But now AJ's old enough (22) and it's time for her to make her move and get Cord to notice her. She's on a break from school and is back in town taking care of her elderly mother who is bedridden after a recent accident. She's got the time and the opportunity now, and she's going to step up and take it. He's free again (recently divorced and the sole caregiver of his young son), and with his son out of town visiting his mother for the first time, he's available for seduction. And it doesn't take long. Cord can't take his eyes off the beautiful blonde as she's dancing at the bar, and can't believe that it's AJ. And when AJ propositions him to teach her everything he knows about sex (she's a virgin), he can't believe his ears (or his good fortune). Of course being a McKay with their wild and bad reputation, he wants this affair not to become public (to spare AJ's reputation), so the affair is conducted totally in the privacy of Cord's house (or barn, or truck). But AJ's okay with that--this is her one chance at getting Cord to notice her and maybe even fall in love with her, and she's not put off by the secrecy or his domineering ways. And boy is he domineering! Readers may cringe at some of Cord's Neanderthal ways, and he has some pretty kinky ideas about sex. But AJ loves it--couldn't be happier--and these two have some rowdy good times. And it's all due to come to a close in a few short weeks when Cord's son Ky returns, and AJ goes back to massage therapy school. But what happens when real feelings develop? After being with Cord, and seeing how compatible they are, AJ wants the whole enchillada. Will Cord be man enough to put his damaged heart out there again, or will he be content to live out his life as the grumpy man he's becoming? Will he let AJ heal him?

This book was scorchin' hot, and things started off with a bang. In fact, there was so many sexual shenanigans going on not only with the H/H, but the hero's cousins and brothers, that I was starting to roll my eyes and think "is this all there's going to be?". But then the story between Cord and AJ started to take off, and the reader gets to see how much the H/H have in common, and how they are both the responsible ones in their family, with a lot of family burdens to carry. And while there were times when I wanted to slap Cord upside the head for being so bossy with AJ and being such an uber-alpha, I also wanted him to not be afraid to admit to himself that he was falling for AJ, and that there could be a future for them. He was domineering and stubborn, a dom sexually, but you could also see he had a heart.

I loved AJ, admired her work ethic and her spunkiness, and she wasn't afraid to tell Cord off a time or two. I felt he respected her for that. I was glad to see that she didn't sell herself short, either. She was not going to put her life on hold if she couldn't have Cord's love. And when Cord thought he might lose her, and pulled out all the stop to woo her, it brought tears to my eyes.

There were some light hearted scenes in the book too, especially the bachelorette party for one of AJ's girlfriends--some hilarious stuff there.

After finishing this book, I can't wait to read the next one in the series. There are so many McKay brothers or cousins with stories to tell (with some already started in this book), that it should be many books before this series is over. This one was definitely a keeper for me, and it rates 5 big stars!

Warning: This book contains explicit sex (some on the raunchy side), graphic language, light bondage, spanking, sex using a foreign object (popcicle), m/f/m menage (not including the H/H), and a scene with a m/m/m/m menage. Not for the faint of heart.

My Thoughts: FYI, this isn't so much a review as me an outlet for me to gather my thoughts & explain my rating.

I didn't have many problems with CGU&R but the ones I did unfortunately affected my rating & overall enjoyment. First, I absolutely loved AJ. She was smart, courageous & had a great sense of humor. I also loved how she wasn't satisfied to settle for second best. She knew what she wanted & if Cord wasn't willing to give it to her, he could fuck off & she'd be okay. I respect that immensely in a woman. I look forward to reading more about her in other books in the "Rough Riders" series.

As for Cord? I'll be frank. I wanted to knock his teeth in with a crowbar couldn't stand him for the most part. He did a very good job of being the "Divorced Emo Cowboy Who Thinks Most Women But His Mama Are Bitches & Ho's." I now understand why a lot of country songs are about a guy crying like a pussy in his truck, drinking Jack because his lady done left him for his Jiffy Lube tire. You want reasons for the Cord hateration? I'll give you reasons!

Reason #1: He spent too much freaking time feeling sorry for himself & less time doing something about it. That guy spent so much time talking crap about himself, I wanted to slit his wrists & put him out of the world's misery.

Reason #2: Every time AJ tried to express her feelings about him to him-good or bad-he ignored it & used it as an excuse to put his rooty in her tooty. There's one scene in a bar where AJ basically tells him to fuck off because he did her wrong. Does he listen? No, he says something along the lines of "That smart talk is gonna earn you a spanking in the bed, missy!" Dude, she does not want to bone you right now! She wants to castrate you. Listen fool, listen!

Reason #3: He toke way too damn long to wise up & realize AJ was the lady for him. I don't want to spoil the book, but lets just say that I wouldn't have believed this book was going to end in HEA if I didn't know ahead of time.

Reason #4: I'm not completely sure why, but sometimes Cord gave off this pervy vibe to me. Maybe it was because he was so damn determined to constantly bring up the fact that he was 13 years older than AJ. It made me go o_O, especially when he'd follow it up with a "Baby, come let daddy give it to you hard." I seriously don't care about the age difference but when you keep shoving it in my face in a negative light, it's hard for me not to start thinking "Damn, that shit is wrong!"

In spite of that, I enjoyed this book. The sex was western sizzlin. I liked the heroine & supporting characters. I adored little Ky. The "Colt & Dag" storyline was heartbreaking. I even liked reading about the day-to-day woes of a cowboy. I just couldn't get into Cord. Which is why I'm rating this book 3.5 stars.

5+ stars – Contemporary/Western Romance/Erotica/BDSM/Ménage

“Cowboy Take Me Away”.....Cowgirl Up and Ride is another flaming hot read in Lorelei James’ spectacularly fun, wickedly erotic Rough Riders series that just keeps getting better and better!

Wise and responsible beyond her years, virgin good-girl-next-ranch Amy Jo “AJ” Foster has been in love with the oldest McKay brother, divorced rancher Cord McKay, since she was 5 years old. She’s waited patiently for 17 years for her dream cowboy to finally take notice and to see her as more than just his kid sister’s best friend and his son Ky’s babysitter. Now that AJ’s 22 and Cord’s 35, she figures she’s waited for him to come around on his own long enough and pulls out all her sexy cowgirl seduction tricks to get him into bed, and to hopefully win his heart forever!

AJ might be sweet and innocent in the ways of sex, but she’s staunchly determined to have Cord in every way, even if it means submitting to his dominance and control and indulging all of his wild, fun, kinky fantasies. Cord was burned by his ex-wife and has sworn off all emotional involvement with women, so he figures that a hot, short-term fling with the young, vivacious, eager AJ is the perfect way to satiate his deprived libido without any serious emotional entanglement. But then he’s totally blindsided by the depth of his feelings for AJ. Will Cord be able to get past his fears, stubbornness, and alpha cowboy male pride and express to AJ how he feels before it’s too late?

It’s an entertaining, deliciously raunchy, and pleasantly sweet erotic and romantic read! If you love sexy alpha cowboys, spirited cowgirls, and lots of nekkid fun and smokin’ hot sex, then this one’s definitely for you! Big 5 stars!

Lots more raunchy sex, but this time it's just between the virginal and crushing AJ and the somber grumpy, kinda of a jackass Colt, no C...Cord. Ugh, Lorelei, did you have to give ALL your male characters names starting with C?

It starts out with the same ole chest banging alpha/brava moves once AJ asks Cord, yes CORD, to indoctrinate her in the wicked ways of being a woman. It will be a no strings affair, that no one will know about. A little tough to keep quiet as in past books the matriarch of the family has tried to set AJ up with some of her other manwhore sons.

The beginning and middle has lots of aforementioned alpha raunchy sex, and there is some major family dysfunction going on. Some of the individual books are a miss, but the overall Rough Riders series actually has an arc for character development and redemption in the family and amongst the brothers and cousins that is more than just who can bag the most babes.

Towards the end, it really works as LJ gives us Cord's bewildered and pathetic inner man mumbles. What happened to his no strings affair? Why won't his little heroine stay put now that he wants her? It is a rare occasion where the heroine spells out clearly where he has messed up and why she deserves better. Even more rare, the H does something about it.

P.S.

There are scenes with some of the other characters that are indulging in..everything that are OTT: MFM, and MMM.

~SAVE A HORSE RIDE A COWBOY~

Opening Line:" Amy Jo Foster had loved Cord McKay her entire life."

Yeehaw, another smoking hot instalment from the Roughriders. This is book 3 in the series and my favourite so far. As usual our couple has all kinds-of-ways hot and sexy lovin going on but between the erotic interludes theres also a really romantic love story unfolding too. Yup I fell hard for tough, gruff, single dad cowboy Cord McKay and enjoyed his struggle with the sweet and much younger, little Miss AJ.

There’s also a whole family of disfunctional, confusingly named McKay cousins and brothers just itchin to get there tales told. With several of them jumping the gun here and telling wild and naughty side stories about their drinkin, dating, bar fightin, multiple partner swappin, M/M encounterin, getting kicked off the range, where’s my life headin, unruly lives. It’s a wonder really that any woman would go near those McKay boys, must have something to do with their blue eyes, cheeky grins and the way they fill out a pair of Wranglers. Oh Yeah, I loved every angle of this story.

Divorced rancher Cord has sworn off women besides what with running his ranch, looking after his young son and dealing with his deviant brothers and drunken cousins he’s got his hands full. However when his former babysitter AJ Foster asks him to teach her the ways of lovemaking, taking her virginity in the process its an offer he can’t refuse.

AJ is a strong, completely likable character who’s been in love with Cord since she was 5 years old and he white knighted her after she fell from her horse. She’s been saving herself ever since, waiting for Cord to see her as more than just the neighbour girl in pigtails. Now she’s all grown up and ready to claim the man she wants. All she has to do is convince Cord to open his battered heart long enough to realize that they’re perfect for each other, in and out of the bedroom.

So saddle up girls and enjoy the ride, theres plenty of sexy, nekkid fun here, a hilarious drunken bachelorette party and some surprising tragedy too. And then theres the love. Cord and AJ will ramp up your pulse in the bedroom while at the same time managing to tug at your heartstrings. Even though Cord’s bossy and downright stubborn you can see early on that he also genuinely cares for AJ and despite his domineering ways crumbles when he thinks he’s lost her. Then watching while she stands her ground and he tries to win her back…*sigh* be still my heart.

"Marry me for me. Marry me because I'm a selfish bastard and I want you to be mine forever. Marry me because I don't know if I'll survive the rest of my life without havin' you by my side every damn day."

Oh dear lord McKays!!!... one minute I want to join in the hot people sandwich parties BUT then I realize how many people participate in those sandwiches...

but THEN I realize there is no wrong loving in McKay land

In this story we get love story of ugly duckling AJ Foster and Cord McKay (with a cute adorable baby bay Ky).

My Cord

My AJ

My KY

AJ's family owned the farm next to McKay's since forever and has been in love with Cord since he saved her when she was five. While home to tend for her mother she runs into cord and propositions him to teach him about horizontal dance (but in this case it's any time, any where, any hole dance lol). Since she is no longer ugly duckling but sin on long legs and legs and breast and all the qualities McKays love the most. But their sexual exploration has a time limit till Ky comes back from visiting his mother... Now is it enough time for Cord to fall in love with AJ as well?

AJ coiled her arms around his waist and kissed his chest, above his heart, making a wish.
Please love me. Please see what we could have together. Please figure it out on your own.

But dreams do come true... do they not?

As usual... I loved this one... although 2nd book bore me a bit... this one bounced back really quickly into my favorite. Can't wait to read more drama on Colt and Kade/Skyler

Who doesn't love a hot, sexy, brooding, horny cowboy?! I know I do! And so does AJ Foster! She's loved him her whole life...

God, she loved this man. She loved his gruff, sweet, thoughtful sides. And his edgy side. She wasn't in love with the perfect Cord McKay she's been fantasizing over forever, but the real flesh and blood man. The real man. Flaws and all.

These books are pure smut. This was pretty much a sex scene marathon with a loose story line bumbling along in the background. But if you're after smokin' hot cowboy sex, all is well and good!!

Saying that, you are starting to see all of the characters intermingling now and all of the stories coming together. You can notice the author setting things up for future stories as well as continuing to enjoy seeing some favourite characters from previous books in the series.

I love these books for what they are. If I need a break from angst, heart ache, brain overload, I turn to Rough Riders. Just like the cowboys in them, they're easy! ;) They're quick, straightforward romps and a sure fire way to get your panties to combust!

"Lord, I'm gettin' addicted to your kisses, AJ. I feel plain, damn drugged when you're kissin' me. I feel plain, damn lost myself when you ain't around."

Cord and AJ were no exception! AJ is the stereotypical virginal good girl, who has saved herself for the experienced, wordly, hot cowboy down the road! It's all very corny and quite predictable, but sometimes you need a little predictability to help you catch your breath.

"Should I tell her that I can't sleep, I can't eat and I miss talkin' to her? Or just sittin' with her? That I miss the secret way she smiles at me? That I constantly think about the way she smells, the taste of her mouth, the feel of her skin, and the sound of her laughter?"

The sex is graphic, raunchy and in abundance. Little AJ gets quite an extensive education from the much older, 'hard as a posthole digger', Cord McKay. Where these guys get their stamina from, I do not know! 'At it like rabbits' comes to mind!

"Right now, AJ. I wanna pin you against the wall and fuck you hard enough to rattle the stalls. Then I want to bend you over the railing' and take you from behind, sinkin' my teeth into that spot at the base of your neck that makes you scream my name."
AJ swallowed. "Um. Let's start with just one and work our way down the wish list, okay?"

So yeh, there isn't much more to say. As much as I love books that make the world shift on it's axis and change my view on life, books like the Rough Riders series definitely have their place and I recommend them to anyone looking for saucy, sexy cowboys and something that won't tax your brain too hard.

Holy Cow this series keeps getting better and better. Not only do we have two main characters that is easy to care about and root for, we get to continue to witness the lives of the McKay family.
Amy Jo Foster has been in love with Cord McKay her whole life. Unfortunately for her, he has always thought of her as his little sister's best friend.
Amy is innocent in many ways. She is often relied on by her older sister and other's often view her as responsible and usually always doing the right thing.
For once, she decides to take a chance in her life and sets out to seduce Cord McKay.
Cord has his own problems. His wife had left him several years ago and he has raised his young son...and had done a very good job at it. Now, his ex wants to see her son, and he must deal with the ramifications of the emotions and heartache that her abandonment has brought to them.
When he decides to go the local watering hole and have himself a beer, he is surprised to see Amy Jo there. He is even more surprised at the arousal and attraction he feels for her.
When she propositions him for some "hot and sweaty" sex he can't believe his ears.
I loved Amy Jo and Cord! The chemistry between them was so sizzling HOT! Whew!
I loved the determination Amy Jo had to have Cord in her life. Both characters are well developed and I loved watching their relationship develop and how they worked through many obstacles to be together.
So turn down the heat girls and get you a cool drink, because you will be in for a wild ride!
If you are offended by explicit language and some REALLY HOT SEX, well this book is not for you. Lucky for me, I don't run into that catagory!

Porn can’t compare to erotica. Don’t get me wrong. Porn is good. The sweating, heaving bodies thrusting against each other make the average male pale in comparison. I’m male, so I dig that shit. Although not so much the inadequate comparison. But erotica opens up a world of possibilities. It allows you to imagine blond chesty females with breasts the size of beach balls, or athletic redheaded women in pink thongs and ponytails, or raven haired cuties in fishnet stockings and garter belts and not much else. Whereas with porn, the dialogue may be a bit cheesy, the story sometimes a bit inadequate, as the man shows up to fix the garbage disposal with the woman answering the door in her green underwear and a pushup bra and a set of perfectly white teeth. Sure, that’s an encouraging scenario, but how many times does the plumber get laid in real life? Yeah, not so much. Otherwise, there’d be more plumbers than government employees, and condoms would be handed out faster than socket wrenches.

Even though COWGIRL UP AND RIDE left me with one Long Hard Ride to the point that I forgot who I was for a few hours, and I actually believed I might have been Cord McKay, I found his relationship with AJ Foster not entirely to my taste. Sure, there were multiple orgasms and mind blowing sex and ropes and multiple positions and entry points, and the way Ms. Foster was described pretty much left me in a lust-induced continuous swoon to the point where I wanted to be the star of this fantasy tale. But it felt more like a relationship profile than the real deal, and when I read about uninhibited lust plastered all over the page, I want the whole enchilada or banana or Popsicle or thong.

Since this was an erotica novel, it could have been all about the sex and nothing more, with little to no character or relationship development, but this tale did offer a bit more, and the continuous cast of secondary characters provided more than just background noise. With alpha males and fanning females, there’s fun for everyone (albeit probably not the kiddos).

The plot moved at a torrid pace that oftentimes rivaled the bedroom antics of these sexual beings with the previous sexual encounter often toppled over by the next one. I don’t recall any broken beds or broken trailers or broken windows or punctured handcuffs, although there was at least one screaming orgasm, and others I may have missed.

Since I’ve read more than a few erotica novels now, I do have to admit I am a little curious about how these marathon bedroom sessions actually make it to the printed page. Do authors have a checklist similar to a grocery list? Do they actually try out the various positions with their significant other and chalk it up to field research? Do they interview strippers or porn stars or burlesque women or some combination thereof? I know I’m probably overanalyzing all of this, but on occasion, I do actually think about this shit.

Oh, and on the Janka Hardness Rating (for wood), I’d rate COWGIRL UP AND RIDE about a Brazilian Maple. And before you try to tell me I’m crazy, yes, there actually is such a scale.

I dislike this series and I had hoped to get to Trevor and Edgar's book. But I can't. I'll call it a day on this series.
I like romancey erotica not raw country porno erotica.

Glory hallelujah, finally. Finally. This is the Lorelei James I know and love. With Cord and AJ's story, she has finally got into her groove, gifting us with a great erotic romance.

I really enjoyed Cowgirl Up And Ride. To the point that I stayed up until 3:40 A.M. last night so I could finish reading it. I loved AJ and Cord together; they were so cute. The fact that AJ had loved Cord since she was five years old and that love just grew as she became older and started loving the man not the fantasy, was a great part of the romance and what I think held the book together. I did like seeing more of AJ than in the other books and it was good to get to know the real her instead of just the face she put up for other people. Same goes for Cord. He hadn't really been in the first two Rough Rider books very much so it was interesting to learn more about the oldest of the McKay brothers. To see him struggle with his feelings was both endearing and frustrating, and I think I almost cried when he asked AJ to marry him because they were compatible. It was sweet to see him with Ky, see him as a father because it was quite the change from Colby and Carter in their books. And probably the sweetest part was when Cord was shouting all the things he loved about AJ at Keely because he was scared to tell AJ, but then he started wooing her and I was completely and utterly wooed myself.

I liked the parts about Kade because I really look forward to reading his book next. I enjoyed seeing him realize that he wanted something more out of his life than just meaningless sex, drinking, and drugs.

And Colt, oh Colt, he broke my heart. I knew, of course, about all the drinking, drugging, and sexing it up from previously reading Branded As Trouble. But just reading about it in the general sense is completely different from actually reading it. It just completely and utterly broke my poor heart to see my Colt like that. Thank God Kade finally helped him and took him to a rehab center. Also, I really loved the fact that he was the brother that Cord brought with him to get married in the end. That was sweet.

All in all, I loved this book. It was great, fantastic, superb, orgasmic. And it gives me hope that the rest of the books will be like that. Thank you, Cord and AJ, for getting me out of my Rough Riders funk!

Just finished reading Cowgirl Up and Ride for the 6th time ;-), this story NEVER gets old and makes me girly bits tingle EVERY. DAMN. TIME. I. READ. IT.

I will NEVAHH EVAHH again, look at an orange popsicle without overheating ;-)

My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE of the Rough Riders, one of my TOP FAVORITES books the other being Saddled & Spurred also by Lorelei James. This book is not just erotic romance, it has an incredible love story in it also.

Cord is gruff, tough and the epitome of working cowboy, and so freakin' sexy. Adding to Cord's appeal is the love he has for his 4 yr old son Kyler. Between him being such a good single daddy and his gruff, dominating ways and shows of tenderness to AJ well he is exactly the kind of man who lives in my dreams. Amy Jo has been in love with Cord since she was a little girl. Cord sees her as his baby sister's best friend and his son's former babysitter, UNTIL he notices a smokin hot woman dancin at the Golden Boot. Lo and behold it's Amy Jo and she has her sights set on Cord, only she tells him she's now AJ with a new attitude and wants him to teach her all about sex.

The path AJ and Cord travel to their HEA is filled with emotions, humor, smokin' hot sex and the rest of the McKay hotties and family. AJ is sassy and Cord comes up with some steaming hot methods of punishments =) The ending of the book is pretty much one of the most touching and "real" I've read, because there is a definite struggle and wooing by Cord that has to go through and AJ has to take a hard look at her life....

Cord is so freakin' SEXY and chemistry between him and AJ just has my Naughty Kindle smokin. Every time he calls her Baby Doll or counts to her makes me quiver ;-) There are so many funny and touching scenes in this book.

4.5 Stars for Cowgirl Up and Ride (audiobook) by Lorelei James read by Rebecca Estrella.

I’m rereading this series and finally getting around to reviewing it. I really enjoy this rural Wyoming setting and how the author focuses on a couple of families. It’s fun to see how different characters end up getting paired together. We get to see the challenging life that they lead and the steamer side too.

ahhh, so I normally write my reviews right when I finish the book. You know, it's fresh and my thoughts are flowing freely. I'm going to be completely honest, I put this review off, read a short story then read a mind fuck of a book and my thoughts are everywhere but I'm going to be short, lol.

This was Cord and Amy Jo's story. Amy Jo has been in love with Cord since she was five and he helped her. Since then she has put him on this pedastool and basically fawned all over him, but from afar. She's watched him grow older get married, have a kid, move away, come back broken, go through a divorce and basically be the rock of his siblings. Not to mention she had to be in his house and babysit that kid for him over and over. But now she's tired of waiting and she's about to make her move.

Cord is tired. He loves his life, his job, his son, his ranch, but he gets lonely. He doesn't want to admit that because he thinks women are all liars and keeps himself away from them, but with his son gone to visit his mom he realizes just how lonely he can get. Once out, he spots this sexy girl across the floor and starts imagining doing dirty things with her, until he realizes his dirty thoughts have been about his sister's best friend and son's babysitter which is also too young for him, however he can't stop the thoughts especially when little Amy Jo makes him an offer he can't refuse.

Ahh this book was so good. Cord and Amy Jo burn up the sheets and when they find their deal being almost done they can't stop thinking about each other. I felt sorry for Amy Jo, she had loved this man her whole life and he had never noticed her, not like that anyway, but that was the least of her problems. She's worked on her farm hard her whole life and never everything is crashing around her, plus she's had to leave school to come and have a front row seat to watch it crumble.

I have to sneak the hilarity of a bachelorette party. OMG, it was sounded like so much fun, made feel like I was missing out not being there. :)

Cord had his own issues he had to get over, pride being the biggest of them all. But he has other problems as well, his brother Colt is coming apart at the seems and he can't seem to get through to him. Then he starts to have deeper feeling for AJ, he just doesn't voice them well.

Other characters stories seemed to take off in this story too. Colt's for sure, and Kane and Kade's. Plus we got a little sneak peak into other stories prior including good news for one, or two, or maybe even more couples. WINK WINK!! Can't wait for more from this series!! Each book pulls me in more. :)

Another great edition to Lorelei James' Rough Riders series. I enjoy the raw feel of this series. James doesn't try to pretty things up. Her stories are rough and tumble, and raunchy. Which makes them fun to read. I think I like the first book the most so far, but this one was really good as well.

This book features Cord McKay and AJ (Amy Jo) Foster. In the past books, Cord has been portrayed as a loner workaholic who wanted nothing to do with women after his wife abandoned him and their son. And AJ was made out to be a shy, goody-goody. But AJ has loved Cord for years, and now she's ready to try and get him. If all she gets is a sexual relationship, then she'll settle for that. For a while. Once Cord sees AJ as sexual woman, and not his little sisters friend or his son's babysitter, he can't resist her. So it's not long before they end up in bed. But while AJ accepts what she feels for Cord, Cord is determined to see what's between them as only sexual. Until AJ leaves and he's forced to see what was really between them.

And spun throughout the book, you get peeks at other McKays. Colt is a mess, an alcoholic, drug user. Kane isn't doing much better. Or Dag. And Kade has gotten himself into a mess with a woman. Plus you learn what Trevor is up to.

So there are a lot of little bits in this story. And you also got to catch up with Colby & Channing, Carter & Macie, and Cash & Gemma (and yeah, BIG surprise there!). I enjoyed seeing what everyone was up to, and with the glimpses at other characters, I'm looking forward to reading their stories.

Cord and AJ were interesting characters to read about. Cord wasn't quite the downer that I thought he would be. He perked right up when AJ caught his eye. The two definitely had some interesting chemistry. And the sex was very hot, even if not quite as adventurous as what we've seen with past characters. There were some sex scenes with other characters that were very, very risque. Those McKays are a horny raunchy bunch!

I enjoyed how Cord won AJ back in the end. It was very sweet. And I just liked the two characters in general. And the bachelorette party scene was great. It had me laughing out loud.

I didn't really like how Colt was dealt with. I thought his realization of his problem, going off to rehab and coming back was rather glossed over. He popped up at the end of the book like all was well. It just seemed a little too simplified to me. But I'm guessing we'll get to learn more about him and his problems in his book (#6).

Fun book to read, though. I do like me some cowboys ;) If you've been reading this series, then you should definitely get this one.

WARNING, this book contains: explicit sex, explicit language, m/f/m sex (non-h/h), group sex(non-h/h), m/m group sex (non-h/h), dominance/submission, light bondage, food sex, and spanking.

Up until now, my favourite in the Rough Riders series has been Rough, Raw and Ready. This is partly because it's a sweet and unconventional love story, but mainly because it's staggeringly and quite breathtakingly rude.

This one had its moments of pure, lust driven, steam from my kindle smut and plenty of totally gratuitous sex scenes but at its heart, it's a story where the sweet, hardworking gal gets what she deserves when she goes after the guy she's convinced she's been in love with since she was 5 and he an oblivious 18 year old.

The other thing that made this such an outstanding read for me was the delectable Cord McKay. I can't get enough rough, gruff and bossy alphas with a sweet, protective underbelly, so spending time with Cord and AJ allowed me to gorge myself on my favourite sort of alpha male. In his cowboy hat, his strong thighs astride his galloping steed and saving damsels in distress...

That's me happy. *sigh*

I haven't read this series in order and I know I've jumped a few so that did make it harder than it should've been to figure out how everyone was related to everyone else, but it's not essential to know all of the characters to follow this, it does work well as a standalone. I absolutely loved it and I'm sure I'll be 're-reading this one as often as I 're-read Rough Raw and Ready. And not just for the rude bits either.

Recommended.

Another book in the rough riders series from Lorelei James and I loved it! Wow! I just never pegged myself for a cowboy kinda girl, but things do change....

This is the story of Cord McKay and Amy Jo Foster (the swiss miss cocoa girl from Long Hard Ride). Amy Jo has been in love with Cord since she was just a kid and because he was so much older than her he paid her no mind. Until one day Amy Jo decides she's tired of waiting for him to notice her... so she MAKES him notice!

AJ is innocent about everything and she wants Cord to teach her everything she needs to know about men and sex... secretly hoping he'll fall for her along the way!

This is a hot, sexy ride into the lives of alpha cowboys and the women who love them. Cord isn't quite as "bossy" as Colby was in Long Hard Ride, but he is definitely a man who knows what he wants!

I recommend reading this book with the window open to get some fresh air, cause your gonna need it... then again, maybe you should keep the windows closed ;-)

What I came here for?

and............

Did this book delivered?

I'm kinda intrigued by this family of dirty dirty hotties. The heroines seem to be straight on take no bullshit, the guys a bit silly but possessive and .. ready for a ride at any time.
Although I've started with book 3 I had no trouble in understanding the plot line and the characters.
I must admit this author has some pretty inventive ideas in the "bedroom" , might even give some a try ( popsicle, shower tasting ) (wink wink)

Overall , entertaining and sexy, so if you love 70% sex and 30% story this is perfect.

Whoa! I loved everything about this book. AJ and Cord are my favorite right now in the R.R. Series. Everything Cord was totally appealed to me, and spoke to me. That man could get anything and everything he wanted.

This story has a recipe that I love in books that I read:

Age Gap.

Older dominant man

Virgin or virginal woman that wants to be taught by the older man everything there is on sex.

Just the right amount of kink, erotica. Delicious smut.

This was such a perfect ending. I will reread this one often.

“Then marry me, AJ. Not because we’re compatible, or because you are a born ranch woman, or because you’d make a good mother. Marry me for me. Marry me because I’m a selfish bastard and I want you to be mine forever. Marry me because I don’t know if I’ll survive the rest of my life without havin’ you by my side every damn day. Please say yes, baby doll. Make your home with me. With us. Make me the luckiest man in the world.” “Yes.”

Such a sexy read!!! Loved the younger girl, older guy scenario, not to mention the whole unrequited love element. Would have loved more angst in some parts, but overall, I could not put it down and loved the steamy scenes like crazy. I mean, a cowboy with a penchant for dominance and bondage...!!!!

Another smoking hot story from Lorelei James. "Cowgirl Up and Ride" continues her Rough Riders series with the tale of Amy Jo, now AJ, and Cord.

Cord is the older brother who's divorced and a single parent. While he certainly doesn't shun women, he's also past the point of 'crazy McKay deeds' like his younger relatives. Now he spends his time working the ranch and raising his son...and he's vowed to never get involved emotionally with another woman.

Amy Jo is an adult now so call her AJ. She's been in lust with Cord for as long as she can remember. Of course, he just thinks of her as his younger sister's buddy or his babysitter. But if it's the last thing AJ does, she's determined he'll see her as a woman. After all, she's been saving herself for him, and if he can't see what a great gal she is...then he just doesn't deserve her!

There's a LOT of sex in this book. No really, a LOT. And it's all hot. Cord is dominant and AJ is the perfect foil for him. Reading about the gradual progression in their feelings as they embark on their sexcapades was very enjoyable. This is another one that's going on the keeper shelf with the rest of the series.

HOT HOT HOTTER!!!

This was one smokin' hot read from Miz James! This story focus's on another one of the renowned Mckay boys, Cord and his very long time admirer Amy Jo (AJ).

Im finding it hard to give these books a great review because I just cannot put into words how much I am loving this series. Although they are highly erotic (which I love) there is also more to it than just the awesome sex. There is love, romance, tragedy (which hit me right from left field) and your normal every day run of the mill family dramas.

So far 'Cowgirl Up and Ride' has been my favorite. There was no third party involved to complicate things and there was no (best manly voice used) "Im shoving my *wink wink* up your *nudge nudge* wether you like it or not!"

The BEST scene was in the shower *excuse me while I fan myself*. My husband found my in an almost comatose state on the floor in a puddle of droll after that chapter.

It is also good how Miz James workes into the story another character in the lead up to the next book. In 'Cowgirl Up and Ride' we start to learn about Kade (or is that Kane?, confusing much???). They are all alot older than what they come across as as well.

Now that I have cooled down I just have to wait for the next in the series to arrive, then I will be back to my drool induced state on my couch reading again!

The McKay/West marathon continues.....

Amy Joy has been in love with rancher Cord McKay since he rescued her from a fall at the age of five. He's always looked at her as a kid sister- she is his sister's best friend for goodness sakes. Until he sets eyes on the 22 year old, now grown up AJ in the local honky tonk bar. He almost didn't recognize her. Cord is a lonely single father over a decade older than her but he can't resist the temptation. He's lonely and she offers no strings attached sex- it's too good to pass up. AJ has saved her virginity for this man.......she loves him but will take what she can get. With his son out of state for several weeks, they agree to nightly "dates" but it has to remain a secret.

The author never fails to write hot bedroom scenes. Props such as Popsicles, honey, jams, you name it make their encounters hot as hell. The chemistry is off the charts but Cord is holding back his heart. He's been left once and it's not going to happen to him and Ky again. But can he let AJ leave and start a new life in Denver?

Moving on to the continuation of the McKay/West family saga.....

This is my favourite so far. I loved AJ and Cord. Being Lorelei James, lots of hot sex!! Lots!!! But this one I found to have more story to it. Both with AJ and Cord, and also about of other family members. I did tear up at a point. I loved that these two have known each other their whole lives, but Cord has just noticed how "grown up" AJ is. They are both so similar in so many ways, having the family, ranch responsibilities, putting others first all the time. But the they also brought out each others lighter side. They are so good together. And they are one hot kinky couple!! I really did enjoy this read :-))

I absolutely LOVED this book. I think so far out of the book's I read in this series that this was my favorite. There was so many things about this book that I loved. The story was great and it had some LOL moments. The sex was extremely hot and I loved the ending. I'm looking forwards to reading the rest of this series but of course I'm gonna read another book or two before I continue on with Tied Up/ Tied Down. I really want to read Kane McKay and Skyler's story and read some more HOT cowboy lovin.

Whew! 4.5 Stars

Lord have mercy. This was my first Lorelei James book and it will not be my last. The plot wasn't overwhelming. The sex was outstanding. The chemistry between the H/h was off the charts. This woman has some mad skills when it comes to conjuring up hot alpha males and their sexual exploits. Good Lord, these McKay men can sure make a girl squirm. Loved this story and I will definitely be reading more of this sexy series. :)
