From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lorelei James comes a new story in her Rough Riders/Blacktop Cowboys® series…

A May-December romance hotter than the 4th of July…

Bull rider Justin Donohue spent his youth hell-bent on winning a world championship. Now retired and nearing the big 4-0, a gold belt buckle and a rusted-out pickup are all he has to show for his years on the blacktop. When Justin takes a job at the Gradsky Ranch, he immediately locks horns (and lips) with the sexy, sassy Calliope—a 22 year old cowgirl set on seducing him. Reminding her of their age difference doesn’t deter Calliope; neither does Justin’s warning that she deserves more than a busted-up former rodeo cowboy.

From the moment Calliope Morgan encounters the hot-as-fire new ranch foreman, she knows his gruff manner is an attempt to mask his attraction to her. But she’s never backed down from a challenge, especially not when Justin’s actions speak louder than his denials. Calliope doesn’t give a damn that he’s older than her or what others might think of their relationship. The uptight cowboy needs to relax and she’ll do whatever it takes to loosen him up, proving there are no age restrictions when it comes to lust…or to falling in love.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

4.5 stars

One thing I’ve learned in the 9 years since I started reading author Lorelei James’ books is that they are like Forest Gump’s box of chocolates, you never really know what you are going to get until you get into it. It was easy to think Wound Tight would be a fun little May-December romance with lots of hot sexy times and while some of that is true, the rest was a bit surprising.

I didn’t expect for nearing 40 year old Justin Donahue, retired bull riding sensation, to be a little down on life and feeling somewhat sorry for himself despite having a family who loves him, the ability to take any job he wants with ease, and enough money to be more than comfortable. I certainly didn’t expect to find Calliope “Callie” Morgan who at age 22 had lived a tough life, one that would have brought most people down, yet made her want to work as hard as she needed to in order to make something more of herself and did it without complaint and honestly with a pretty damn sunny attitude. And while I did know they would be together, I was pleasantly surprised at the way they got there and the internal conflict and soul searching that came to pass. I loved every minute of this fast and furious romance, the verbal sparring, the immediate lust, the friendship they built, and the moment Justin realized he was in love (seriously that moment melted my heart for numerous reasons), but most of all I loved that this couple proved that age is only a number. Being older doesn’t always make you wiser, but it does give you the wisdom to make you look at your life and see the big picture despite the baggage of your past.

Cameo appearances by Jack and Keeley and well as Cres and Breck made my day and this couple stole my heart. Smart, funny, sassy, surprising, and sexy along with a lot of love, Wound Tight was a joy to read!

Dear lord, a May to December COWBOY romance? That it’s a Rough Riders/Blacktop Cowboy® series crossover? I’ve died and gone to heaven!

*fans self*

Goodness, I was sucked in to the hot, sexy, smart, snarky, fun romance between Justin and Callie from the first words of Wound Tight. I loved Callie’s fierce independence, her sass and her ability to still see the best in people and her situation. She did not wallow or feel one bit sorry for herself for the hand that life dealt her.

And Justin. Whoa, cowboy! He is the perfect match for Callie—once he got out of his head and realized it too! I loved how he loved much like he lived—simple, fiercely, deeply and honest . . . err . . . mostly.

Wound Tight is a quick and fantastic read. A perfect addition to the wonderful Rough Riders/Blacktop Cowboy® series. I couldn’t read it fast enough to see how they found their happily ever after. And it was perfect. ~ Missy, 5 stars

This was a sweet and sexy little novella that took me back into the Rough Riders series with a few glimpses of old characters which was just lovely (Jack and Keely). This book is about Jack's brother, Justin.

When this series ended after almost 20 books I was genuinely sad because the Rough Riders series was hot cowboy magic. I've never wanted to hop a plane to Sundance so much in my life and track down some sexy McKay cowboys.

While I adored this, I'd honestly recommend you start at the beginning of the Rough Riders series (just so you get the lay of the McKay family) and then you could jump to whichever book in the series that takes your fancy.

Particular favourites are:

Cowgirl Up and Ride (delicious age gap)
Shoulda Been a Cowboy (sexy dominant cop with a slow burn)
Rough, Raw and Ready (M/F/M)

4 'Cowboy hottie' Stars!

I always know where to go when I am in the mood for some western romance and that is Lorelei James. Before starting another full-lenght novel, I realized Lorelei just released another novella which happens to be a crossover between her famous Rough Riders series (my fave western series of all time!) and her newest westerns in the Blacktop Cowboys series.

I am so glad that Justin Donohue (brother of Jack Donohue from All Jacked Up) got to meet his soul mate in Callie Morgan. Yes, there are lots of differences between them regarding age and money but that is left aside where there also is lots of chemistry and lots of love. As always, this was hot AF and I really enjoyed how the short story was developed. Justin and Callie are perfect together! I do wish we got a little bit more of them in the epilogue but overall this was a great novella to read between other books. Definitely recommend!

***5 ‘Team Callie’ Stars***

Even if I hadn’t been all kinds of giddy at getting my hands on Wound Tight, that prologue would’ve grabbed hold of me and had me NEEDING to dive into it ASAP because Oh. Boy! I can’t recall the last time a prologue had me going “Oh. NO she/he (??? *BSEG*) didn’t!” the way this one did. It set the tone perfectly for Justin and Callie’s story and kept me turning the pages until there were no more words to devour.

I’ll readily admit that I never thought too hard over Justin Donohue. It’s not his fault that he was pushed to the sidelines thanks to the delicious smexyness that was the Glanzer and McKay men as well as his own brother, so when he showed up in Tripped Out it took me a minute to remember who he was and when I did, I wanted to know what he’d been up to all this time and I have to say that I honestly really liked the man. While he is a suspicious sort, understandable considering what he’s been through, he is a good man. He has a solid core of honor that keeps him grounded and charisma that makes him intriguing.

But the true start of the book was Callie. This woman is a force to be reckoned with. Life hasn’t been an easy one for her, but instead of making her cynical, it’s made her mature for her age and determined to achieve her dreams. She works hard and doesn’t mince words. Sassy, sweet and self assured, Callie has a vibrancy to her that pulls you in and doesn’t let go.

As far as Justin and Callie’s journey to their HEA goes, it was a fun and smexy one. The sexual tension between them was intense and their bantering was a lot of fun. I loved how well matched they were on every level and how, once a few issues were worked through, they came together and found that they were a perfect fit.

I’ve said this a million and one times, but I’m a huge #fangirl of the two series that have collided in this novella, The Blacktop Cowboys series & The Rough Riders series, so a portion of my enjoyment of this novella was getting to hangout a bit with Keely and Jack (All Jacked Up/RR #8), catching up with Breck and Cres, as well as doing a little reminiscing about the “good old days”.

Lorelei James-Wound Tight

I went into Wound Tight totally blind. When I opened the book I noticed it was a crossover between the Rough Riders & Blacktop Cowboys series featuring the one and only Justin Donahue (Jack’s brother) and Callie Morgan who we were introduced to in the earlier RR books.

Now if you’re like me you might be thinking Callie? I remember that name, but I don’t recall any specifics. That’s because she was Carter & Macy’s 4 year old flower girl at their wedding. And Justin? Wouldn’t he be a lot older? That’s right folks, this is a May-December romance told in true Lorelei James fashion with a former uber hot bull-riding cowboy and a sassy spitfire heroine that goes after what she wants in all aspects of her life.

I really loved this novella and read it in one sitting. Justin & Callie’s relationship reminded me a lot of my own. So much so that I’m convinced this book was written personally for me!

This book can be read as a stand-alone; however, for longtime fans of the RR books there is a special treat with a scene from Jack & Keely that made me giddy!

Wound Tight is a crossover between two series written by Lorelei James, Rough Riders and Blacktop Cowboys, it is also part of the 1,001 Dark Nights Series, you do not need to read the prior books in either series in order to read this book, this is the best part about the 1,001 Dark Nights Series it allows authors to write novellas about characters in their stories that may not have otherwise gotten their HEAs in order to give us readers a taste of their work or an extra bonus if we're already fans. I LOVE THAT!!!!

Justin is going to grab your hearts ladies, especially if you like cowboys and lets be honest here who doesn't ;) The thing I loved most about Justin was that even though he was scared shitless about getting involved with Callie because of their age difference he was able to go about it in a way that made him feel more secure in their relationship. As for Callie, if it wasn't mentioned that she was only twenty-two I would never have guessed it. This young woman was more mature than some in their thirties, and I really really liked her...like a lot.

If you happened to read Tripped out, Stirling and Liam's story, you will be thrilled to know what happened with the crazy golf cart ride they had with Justin and Callie because now we get the same scene from the other couples POV and it was wonderful and makes much more sense now that I know the whole story behind it all.

I really enjoyed this quick and sexy read. My heart also melted when Justin told Callie he first realized he had fallen for her, I mean seriously ladies totally swoon worthy. I highly recommend this read to everyone that enjoys a good cowboy romance or even if you just enjoy the May/December Romance Trope. Happy Reading!!!

Hot, Hot, Hot!! The chemistry between Callie and Justin is sizzling and the interactions are sexy AF! The differences and the conflicts are real and reasonable. Callie is definitely not like most 22 year olds. Another awesome addition to the amazing works of Lorelei James! Fingers crossed for a little story about Lana and Deke!!!

Justin had the hang up with age and money, but with his bad luck of finding gold-digging hussies, I can’t really fault him for being...not quite as honest with Callie as he should have been. And Callie! She was a hoot! She was independent, feisty, smart, and after a rough childhood, super determined to forge her way to a better life. She held nothing back with Justin, and I think it helped give him a reality check he needed in the worst way! Their chemistry was undeniably sizzling and there was just enough push/pull to keep things on the edge, until they finally gave in to their attraction.

This was actually a great May/December romance! Justin and Callie were a perfect pair, bringing out the best of one another, one layer at a time.

"If your life is a burden, then you're living it wrong." -Callie

This book was so good that I read it in one go. It has all the components for a great read: love, romance, hotness, sweetness, sexy times, and HEA. This book also made me nostalgic for past books and characters.

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Fans of Lorelei James rejoice!  WOUND TIGHT blends two of my favorite cowboy romance series by the Queen of this trope.  Blacktop Cowboys and Rough Riders.  The great thing about that you ask?  That you will see cameos from characters in both series and I was happier than you could imagine.  I also have the worst memory so this may have taken a little while to click for me with the connections but once I figured out that the hero, Justin, is Jack's brother... IN LOVE with him even more.

But lets back up a bit before I fangirl all over this review.  Justin Donohue is 40.  He's a retired world champion bullrider that everyone thinks burned through all the money he made and now has to live the life of a traveling ranch hands, finding his next meal where he can get it.  That's exactly the type of man Calliope needs to stay away from because it hits too close to home for her.  But even at 22 and with the big age difference between them, she can't deny the attraction and chemistry that sizzles with even just a look.

This is a May-December trope and honestly, sometimes these can work for me and others it feels a bit like eeekkkk.  Lorelei James knows just how to push boundaries while staying in a comfortable zone that will appeal to most readers.  Justin had enough of gold diggers in his life and has resorted to living like a lone wolf because all he's attracted in the past has been heartache.  My heart ached for him and I couldn't wait until he got an HEA with a loving woman that would take care of him.

And then there's Callie.  Here's a heroine that has gone through so much in her short life and I adored her.  Admired her strength and her resolve to making things happen for herself.  Independent, level headed, determined.  There was so much about this loving young woman to like and she was the perfect balance for Justin's hard life.

WOUND TIGHT packs an emotional punch and plenty of sizzling chemistry like Ms. James can deliver.  You won't be able to not fall in love along with the characters.

Wound Tight: A Rough Riders/Blacktop Cowboys® Crossover
This book was so good just like the other Lorelei James's book. this is a crossover between the Rough Rider series and the Black Top Cowboys series.
In this book, we get to re-meet Justin Donohue (Jack's brother) and Callie Morgan. In this book Justin learns that not all women want him for his money and he also has to learn do deal with his feelings for Callie who is 18 years younger than him. Callie is head over heels for Justin the first time she laid eyes on him. The chemistry is there between the two of them, but they also have past history in their lives that they have to over come. This book was so good, that I could not put it down.
I received this ARC from the author in exchange for my honest opinion on this book. Receiving this ARC did in no way alter or change my opinion. This is my honest opinion.

Lorelei James is such an amazing writer, I love all her series. Roughriders is one of my all time, favorite series EVER. Then there is Blacktop Cowboy series.
If you cross them over. It can only,be,the most explosive book. Wound toght did that. I cant say enough good, things about this novella. The only down part if it was over way to quickly. I want more of,these 2,great,series together. Justin in roughriders was young and wild and you wanted to hate him a little for hurting Keely but could, quite.
And Callie Morgan grab you from the first time we met her. These 2 together is a romance for the ages.

Wound Tight is a crossover story of two of Lorelei James’ best known series, Rough Riders and Blacktop Cowboys. We first met Callie Morgan as a four year old flower girl in a McKay wedding and Justin Donahue was a previous boyfriend of Keely McKay. Years later, Callie and Justin meet as employees of Grade A Rodeo School. There is instant attraction despite the eighteen year age difference which Justin has a difficult time wrapping his head around. Once they get to know each other and become friends, they become wrapped up in each other.
It was nice seeing a couple of beloved characters (Keely and Jack) and getting to know Justin and Callie. Their May/December romance is a perfect addition to the Rough Riders/Blacktop Cowboys series. Thanks Lorelei. You did it again!

Another great story by Ms. James!!!

Justin has grown up a lot since we last saw him and I couldn't be happier.

Callie is just as I remember her but with miles on her soul that dont readily show.

Put these two powder kegs together and how could you not have an explosion!!

I couldn't get enough of Justin and Callie. Justin's baby doll Callie was a little spitfire! She was just what his "prude self" needed. The sparks that flew off them was like watching a Texas size firework show. I couldn't get enough of these two. I enjoyed a peak at Jack and Keeley and their loving antics. I wanted more and more of Justin and Callie, and was sad when I came to the end. I am hoping that we will see glimpses of these two in the future.

I forgot how much I love the May-December trope, but Wound Tight reminded me why! I loved the storytelling method that Lorelei James employed (the prologue drops us in the middle of the story and and then we start at the beginning) and I loved Callie and Justin. I did feel a bit lost in the world because I have absolutely no clue about anything rodeo or ranch related, but it did not detract from my enjoyment of the story. I was especially tickled when I realized that the timeline and characters intersected with Tripped Out and when I got to the scene overlap from that book it was so much fun! As with most 1001 Dark Night books I've had the pleasure of reading, my favorite part of the reading experience is being introduced to a new world and characters and finding that I want to delve further into it - so I will be reading the Blacktop Cowboy novellas (Roped In, Stripped Down, and Strung Up) ASAP since all of the couples from those books are in Wound Tight and I just have to know their full stories, and then I'll probably move on and commit to reading the entire series - probably the Rough Riders series too! 4 out of 5 wine glasses.

Oh, Justin and Callie. How we have waited for your story. And who didn’t want a crossover Rough Riders/Black Top Cowboys book! When we first met Callie she was all of 4 yrs old and hanging out with Channing in the stands while her daddy rode on the back of a bull for 8 seconds. We meet Justin a few years later when Keely brought him home to meet her family. But he wasn’t the one for her. Years later Justin is working at a Rodeo school, helping to train the young guys on the proper way to ride a bull. His first night there he goes to a local bar and sees a woman there that sparked his interest like never before. It wasn’t until the next morning when he found out that she’s working at the same Rodeo school, helping out in different areas of the compound. Sparks fly hotter than the night before until they combust. And then he finds out just how young she is. 22 to his 40. And freaks out. And why wouldn’t he? He’s old enough to be her dad. That’s what people will think when they see them together. But Callie doesn’t care. All she sees is a cowboy hottie that she wants to have a little fun with. And once they get to know each other, they actually like each other. Once Justin gets over his issue about their age difference and they start mixing hot and kinky fun with their friendship it doesn’t take long before love comes to stay.

If I could give this book more than a 5 start rating, I would do it in a heart beat. I love all of Lorelei sexy alpha cowboys and it has been a very long time since I have been able to indulge in one of her books. I loved it so much and missed her writing. Callie is a firecracker and once she sets her eyes on something, she is not shy about getting what she wants. I loved her attitude and "Go Get 'Em" persona. She is my favorite heroine.

Justin on the other hand was bull headed when it came to the girl. But I loved his personality as well. I was over the moon for this man, and even when he showed his flaws (acting like age matters), Callie showed him to open his mind and heart. The heat level was explosive! Wound Tight is a story that you will have a good time reading it. I loved the characters, story line, heat factor, and the feels that ran through me!

Wound Tight: A Rough Riders/Blacktop Cowboys Crossover/ 1001 Dark Nights Novella by Lorelei James can easily be read as a standalone. Yes there are ties to other books and you´ll meet old friends and new acquaintanes, but you don´t have to read the other books first to understand the story of Wound Tight.

Justin Donohue is a man in his fourties, set in his ways, a bit restless, sucessful and has lived his life to the fullest. Now he wants to settle down, but he has major thrust issues and when he meets Callie, he´s wary.
Callie Morgan is a young woman who works hard to make ends meet. She has big goals and knows what she wants. She has great friends and in general she´s good people.
She meets Justin and is smitten with him. But Justin, when he discovers there is a age gap, retreats from her. She´s hurt, but in typical sunshine Callie fashion she lives her life, only his actions confuse her more and more. The true grown up in this situation is Callie. She takes life by the horns and simply lives it.
Wound Tight is a beautiful story with a heroine I very easily could connect with. I adore her and I wa sos so happy that both got their so well deserved HEA.

Lorelei James has once again wrote a story that is both sweet and incredibly hot.

I was a little leery of the age difference between the characters but after learning more about them I realized that they were perfect for each other. The story was the perfect mix of Black Top Cowboys and Rough Riders with lots of mention of characters from both series and memories from past books. It was great to get a tiny glimpse of our beloved characters and get to meet and fall in love with new ones. I absolutely recommend this book and feel it is the perfect introduction to the amazingness that is Lorelie James.

Holy Hotness!!! Definitely needed this sweet little story to liven up my week! I absolutely love all of the cowboys from Ms. James and this story does not disappoint.

Justin Donohue was introduced to us way back during Keely and Jack’s story. He is getting his happily ever after with Callie Morgan, who we met earlier during a McKay wedding...I absolutely adore having characters who show up in other stories and the way they are weaved in is magical.

Justin has been there, done that and is ready to settle in for the finish. He’s been burned by love and doesn’t know if he will ever find someone who just wants him for himself, not what he can give. Callie is a young, up and coming go getter who is going to make something of her life. But is she too young? Can Justin get past his past and find a future with her? Oh, yeah!!!! They just rock! I can’t wait for more stories from the Cowboys!!!!

I READ IT TOO FAST!!
Full review to come!
------------------
This may be a story of an older man, younger woman but Lorelei proves to us that age doesn't equate maturity.
Callie is tough as nails but not jaded and at 22 she is determined to make something OF herself, FOR herself. Justin is floundering. Watching others in his life settle down and find their forever but he's not even sure that forever is what he wants.
The instant chemistry (who can resist a woman dancing/grinding on a bar in short shorts), the banter, the SEX!, and eventually the love - even though Callie was prepared to watch it walk away to follow her plan - make a fantastic and quick read that any seasoned LJ fan or newbie to her work will LOVE!

I’ve not read anything by this author for a very long time I really used to love her books. But this one didn’t do it for me. I wasn't keen on the heroines character I found her a bit too much. I quite liked Justin but that wasn’t enough to save this. The dialogue left a lot to be desired I found it very cliched, and do people still say things like Daddy-O? A bit sad really as I usually love an older man and younger woman tale.

Finally Justin Donohue (Jack’s brother) gets his story! I loved this Blacktop Cowboys/Rough Riders crossover novella. Callie was just 4 years old when she first appeared. She’s now 22 to Justin’s 40 and has so many miles on her soul from what has happened in her life. Justin has matured over the years and had some painful lessons in trust taught to him. From the first meeting the attraction is strong, but once Justin finds out Callie’s age, he has issues and battles himself. What follows is super hot, emotional and a novella packed full and engaging. Touches of fun and humor round it out.

Justin and Callie have to be one of my favorite couples written by Ms. James! Although they are what one would consider a May/December romance, they are certainly well matched. Callie has had life experiences that's taught her to stand up for what she wants and not to let anyone put her down. Justin thinks he doesn't want a relationship due to how things went with other girlfriends.

Learning what has happened over the years to characters from the ROUGH RIDERS series was a plus as well. It always speaks well to how well developed Ms. James' characters are that any little snippet about their lives is always welcome.

Wound Tight is AWESOME! Justin Donahue is a former rodeo champion who ends up teaching at the Gradsky ranch. When 22 year old Callie locks eyes on him she knows she needs to get to know the cowboy hottie. Justin is on board, until he finds out she’s only 22 to his mature 40. He can’t stay away from the sassy cowgirl and the sparks fly. They must find out if they can overcome the differences of where they’re at in life, and find their HEA.
This book is so sweet and sexy. I love that they have a May/ December romance! I also love that we get a little peek at Keely and Jack’s life since Justin is Jack’s brother. I loved the ending and epilogue! Such a great novella!
