"Hello, Praea."

There's only one being on Earth who calls Sloan Jordan by that name—her biological mother, a demon named Kasyade. So why did she answer Sloan’s best friend’s phone? When Sloan reaches Adrianne Marx’s apartment to investigate, all she finds is a half-written list of things to do before Sloan’s wedding:

1. Order booze for the reception.

2. Send the final guest count to the caterer.

3. Register for gifts.

4. Don’t forget to—

That's where the to-do list ended. Mid-sentence with a scrawled line like Adrianne had been dragged away from the task. If Kasyade was involved in the abduction, Adrianne probably had been.

The reason? Ransom.

The price? Sloan’s unborn daughter, the most powerful angel in all of history.

But hell can’t rival the fury of an angry mother protecting her child, and until the baby is born, her incredible power is Sloan’s to wield. Now the prey becomes the predator as Sloan seeks to put an end to Kasyade forever.

So many humans feared death when life was so much more unpredictably terrifying.

The amazing trio is back together and now searching for Adrianne who seems to have been kidnapped by Kasyade. Of course, the whole plan to kill Sloan and capture her baby is still effective in the paranormal world so the Claymore team also needs to follow her everywhere and protect her.

The pace of this book, as in the previous ones, is great. The plot does not progress much in the first half, but there are so many funny moments that I still read it fairly quickly. There are also more significant bonding moments between the characters as things are getting more serious and it seems obvious that not everyone will survive the confrontation that is coming. I don't want to spoil anyone, so I'll just say that even though I am happy and satisfied with the direction this series (and the romantic aspect of the series) is taking, I did cry a little near the end of the book.

"Alastair, this is my future daughter-in-law, Sloan Jordan." So this funeral director knew Azrael very well.
The man shook my hand. "It's lovely to finally meet you, Ms. Jordan. I've heard so much about you. Let's go back to my office."
I linked my arm through Azrael's as we walked. "You're bragging about me to your friends, are you?"
"Complaining is more like it," he replied.
I smiled.

If any bit of ice remained in my heart for Azrael, it melted in that instant. All distrust and unforgiveness vanished with that small peek under the sheet of his true intentions. "You're a good man," I whispered, instantly full of love, gratitude, and infinite sorrow. He'd sacrificed everything—eternity even—for the woman he loved, and yet his grace and selflessness seemed to know no end. "I'm not a man at all," he said quietly with the slightest of smiles. Then he stepped forward, and in the secret stillness of that crypt, he hugged me.

Azrael was a part-time jerk in the previous book because of all his secrets and scheming. He clearly had Sloan and Warren's best interest at heart, but he also caused many problems and trust issues with his secrets. I was glad to see a softer side of him in this book, and it made me love him again. He can be so funny sometimes while remaining so serious, the dude has a talent for being unpurposely funny... And Reuel, wow I love that guy too, and now that Sloan can understand what he's saying it's even funnier!

"I think you're ready to get started." She reached below her computer and pulled out an orange-and-white laser gun that looked like a phaser from Star Trek.
"Dibs," Nathan said, pointing at it.
My brow wrinkled. "You don't even know what it does."
"It's a gun. I don't care." Keisha handed the gun to Nathan. He immediately pointed it at Reuel and pulled the trigger, making sound effects. "Pew, pew, pew!"
Boys.

We turned the corner, and I was partially through reading the list of what all I needed when Reuel's snickers caught my attention. I looked up to see Nathan with the plastic suction cup of a breast pump pressed against his ear. He was using a second one as a microphone. "Dispatch this is two, two, zero, one. Current location Aisle Two, formula and breast feeding. Requesting coordinates for the nearest exit. Please send backup. Over."
For the first time in a long time, I laughed so hard I had to cross my legs so I wouldn't pee on myself.
"Come here, Reuel," Nathan said, motioning him over. "Let's see if these fit you." Reuel walked over and pulled his shirt up to his chin. Nathan pressed the suction cups to Reuel's massive pecks. I fanned my face with the paper as I laughed. "Oh my god. Nathan, stop."
He turned toward me, then pressed both suction cups over his ears. "What? I can't hear you!"

Oh my, while the action is mostly in the second half of the book, having Sloan, Nate and Reuel going baby shopping together was the most hilarious moment of this series so far. I laughed for 5 minutes straight. I am also SO HAPPY that we see more of Nate in this book. I really missed him in the previous book, and I couldn't wait for him to be back. As always, the dynamic between Warren and him is quite funny, and I have to say that the more I read this series, the more I'm team Nate. Warren is a great guy, but he's been more distant since he died and was brought back to life, and he lacks this sweet and "normal" vibe that Nate has. Also, his devotion towards Sloan is awe-inspiring, I would marry that guy any day. I also never can get enough of his funny and snarky conversations with Warren.

"Hey, Warren," Nathan said behind me. "Remember that time we told Sloan that this hike wasn't going to be easy and she should probably sit it out?"
Warren glanced back over his shoulder. "And she was all like, 'Guys, I can do this. Let's go now.'" Warren did a terrible impression of my voice.
"I don't…hehn…sound…like that." Stars twinkled around my field of vision, and my legs burned like they'd been poured full of molten lava.
"There might be clues, guys. I want to see the cave!" Nathan's impression was even worse. That time, I didn't hesitate flipping him off.
"I wish Fury was here," he said. I groaned.
"So you could stare at her ass instead of my wife's?" Warren asked.
Nathan gave a melodic sigh. "Yeah."
"Such…hehn…a…pig."
"Staring at your ass makes me feel guilty now. But staring at Fury's? That makes me happy inside."

There was a loud crash of thunder out back. "Uh-oh. I'm in trouble." Nathan was grinning as he poured a handful of Skittles into his mouth. The back door opened and slammed closed.
"Nathan, are you in here?" Warren called out. He sounded pissed.
"I'm in your bed, brother!"
Closing my eyes, I shook my head. "He's going to kill you."
Nathan laughed. "I know."

I don't know what just happened. I am really disappointed. Let me start by saying how much I have loved this series up until now. I have recommended it to so many people and was so excited for book 5 to come out that I pre-ordered it a couple months in advance.

The previous four books in the series are:
1) The Soul Summoner - I gave this book 5 stars.
2) The Siren - I gave this book a high 4 stars.
3) The Angel of Death - I gave this book 5 stars.
4) The Taken - I gave this book a high 4 stars.

From the very beginning, The Sacrifice felt different. The writing style is a bit different. The story felt choppy and there were parts that weren't completely clear. There was some dialogue that I had to read a couple times to make sure I understood what was being said/who it was pertaining to.

I still enjoyed seeing all my favorite characters and there were several parts that I enjoyed but it just wasn't as good as I hoped or have become accustomed to from reading the prior four book. It's hard to put my finger on exactly what it was because it was an overall feel mostly.

I really did not like the ending. I'm really bummed with the direction the story went, especially with

Overall, The Sacrifice didn't really work for me. I will still recommend this series because I really love it and think books 1-4 are terrific. Plus, just because I don't like book 5 doesn't mean that others won't.

At the end of the book, it says, "GET THE NEXT BOOK The final story in the first “season” of the Soul Summoner series is coming early summer 2018." I'm not sure where exactly the story will go from here but after the ending of The Sacrifice, I don't think I want to read book 6. I think I might just call it good and end here.

For now, I give book 5, The Sacrifice, 2 -2.5 stars. I might change my mind once I've had time to let go of some of my disappointment but for now my feelings are too raw.

Oh my, my, my... was this ever the tear jerker but damn it was a good read. Sorry to say this book didn't end with a HEA... but I'm still sticking to my guns that this is one of the best series I've read in a long time.

So off to book 6 of this series... oh please Elicia let it be better than this tear jerker...

Holy crap!! This series keeps getting better and better. I can’t get enough of Sloan and Nathan. Each scene with them has left me laughing and one even crying. I was blown away by the ending. I did not see that coming!! Fantastic book from start to finish.

CAUTION: ADDICTIVE
I bought the first book in the Soul Summoner series a couple of years ago and quickly became addicted to the strong plot, great characters, and sense of humor. The Sacrifice lives up to every single one of those characteristics plus. Although it could, conceivably, operate as a stand alone, it resolves issues that took place in earlier books, so please do yourself the favor of reading the other books first. You will not be disappointed!

Having read this in ARC form, I can tell you that I went through a roller coaster of emotions with this book. I simultaneously wanted the book to go faster so that I could find out what was going on while wanting it to slow down so that I could savor every moment. And when one of the culminative scenes arrived, I read the first sentence of the chapter, panicked that things were going in a way I wouldn't like, and then walked my dog, did the dinner dishes, prepped food for the slow cooker for the following night - all the while stewing over the plot. I should have just trusted that Elicia knew what was best for the story, because it is superb.

While the story is action-packed and full of drama, Elicia has also honed her comedic chops with this book. In fact, one scene in a baby supply store had me laughing so hard, I scared my dog and had to bribe him with treats to return to the same room as me!

Read it. Now. But only if you are prepared for a massive book hangover and a desire to re-read the entire series (to this point).

The Sacrifice by Elicia Hyder

5th Book in the Summoner series. Should be read in order.
Saying that, Book 5 is way better than 4. Edge of your seat reading. Get thru 4 and you will love this one.
I appreciate humor in a book. While this is a dark and tense novel, it also has a few lighter moments. The baby registry store scenes were funny as were a few others.
I worried often about Adrienne. Somewhat in the beginning, Adrienne is kidnapped. It seems they forget about her for long periods throughout the course of the book although the gist is that everyone is searching for her.

The ending: I won’t spoil it. Suffice it to say this grouping of five is mostly complete but there are many ways it can go in the future.
This book was fully satisfying, engaging, thrilling and entertaining.

A MUST READ

Excellent, superb book in the Saga of Sloan, Warren, and Nate. Think of your favorite roller coaster. Then imagine you’re reading this book while riding on it over and over again. THATS how this book will make you feel with your emotions! So basically, I loved every moment in the story and am already anxiously awaiting the next book.

Once again I say that Elicia Hyder is a master with words. I loved this book as much as all the previous in the series. The fight between good and evil, the battle is mind blowing. I am going to dive into the next book as soon as possible. I don't want the series to end. I love all the characters and can't imagine the exciting rest of the story to come!! Sloan, Nathan and Warren are so great and all the supporting characters just really give so much to the stories. I laughed, cried and repeat once again. Emotional rollercoaster sometimes at least for me. It's action packed in places and just has a little bit of everything. If you haven't read any of these yet, you really need to!!!

Awesome series! I love and hope it never ends. I was sad about the ending a little on this book but I understand it. I think this series would make a great movies and/or TV series. I can see these characters so clearly in my head and think they will look great and funny in some parts on the big screen. I could see it be a big hit like Harry Potter on the big screen. Check out the series if you haven't yet!

I loved this culminating novel of the "Soul Summoner" series by Elicia Hyder. I could not put it down! It was fast paced and suspenseful while I constantly tried to guess what would happen next. But the ending was a surprise. I'm so sorry to see this series end, but look forward to Ms. Hyder's next series.

When Sloan Jordan receives a hang-up phone call, she immediately knows two things are amiss. One: her biological mother was on the line. Two: Said woman called from her best friend’s phone.

With her fiancé extraordinaire, a friend with a penchant for Velcro patches, a fallen angel, a gung-ho tactical barbie/nemesis, and a hungry hulk, Sloan must deliver her baby, rescue Adrianne Marx, and save the universe before summer starts! There are no second chances; it’s do or die. A pregnant woman with a hot temper and a quick wit is humanity’s last hope.

(I was given this Advance Reader Copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review. Plus, spoiler-free.)

My favorite group of badasses is back for a final battle! It was a pleasure to revisit my favorite ex-publicist, ex-marine, and ex-cop in an all-out war for world peace. Everyone from The Soul Summoner to The Taken returned with their comedic brilliance in Elicia Hyder’s fifth paranormal contemporary.

Heartrending moments were raw and genuine, and I would’ve thrown my Kindle at the wall if I didn’t have to explain that to the insurance company, lol. The action scenes were visceral and intense; I felt included in the fight while chaos ensued. But the back-and-forth banter entwined in dialogue and monologue—that made this book (and the entire series) a success! Even though I knew all the characters, eL managed further character development and kept chapters flowing with nuances and novelty.

The last third of the book went at warp speed compared to the steady pace of the novel. Still, everything transitioned cohesively even with the fast unravel because the build-up met the resolution and exceeded my expectations. (In other words, the novel didn’t fall flat after breaching the climax.)

The Sacrifice is my favorite of the series! It was hilarious and heartbreaking and suspenseful and romantic. It had me unabashedly laughing out loud in public in every chapter and depleting my tissue box with swoon-worthy moments. This page-turner tested true friendship and love's limits while the clock wound down.

What sacrifice would you make to save your child, to save the world?
Sloan Jordan has until she gives birth to make that decision. She carries within her a child who could save or destroy the world, and angels and demons await her birth.
When I first learned of this series I was intrigued because it's genre is Paranormal and I really like Paranormal but then when I heard that the sexy times weren't really erotic I kind of wondered how much I would like it. Well, I LOVED it.
The writing is pretty awesome and Ms Hyder weaves a really interesting story, even the mundane parts are interesting. I loved this book as much as all of the rest of the series. For this book you are going to need some tissues.
I highly recommend this entire series even the novela, The Detective.

I have to admit that I was disappointed with this book of the series. This book seemed to have LOTS of “stuff” thrown in that did not make for interesting reading. I found myself wanting to skip thru parts of chapters. The story seemed disjointed and did not flow smoothly at all. The characters are jumping from place to place without preparing the reader. Warren and Sloan did not seem as connected as in previous books. Then the ending was VERY disappointing. The reader is left hanging and I found myself asking, “What just happened?” I was prepared to find out who her biological father was, only to be told that I really didn’t want to know! I’m not sure if Sloan’s story is over or not! This book just felt wordy and incomplete. Good series but this book was a disappointment.

Great series and narration by Brittany Pressley (audible review)

This was a great series, it seems that it moving into Nathan's story now and I am glad for that. This book was a good ending to the series. I think, since I have not started the Nathan's book yet. I will very soon.

I can totally recommend this series to paranormal fans. I really enjoyed it.

The narration was amazing! I love Brittany Pressley! She is an awesome narrator. The men sound like men and everyone gets their own distinct voice. She is amazing!

It seems that I am very much in the minority on this book but it just didn't do it for me. I don't often give ratings under 3 and even less times do I actually find the time to write a review. To me the story dragged on and the ending was unsatisfactory. I loved this series when I first started and was waiting on the edge on my seat for the last book but I found that it let me down. Sorry to Elicia, I don't mean to be negative and crap all over your book but I want to be honest

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from the author*

WOW. I always thought this was a great series because of how the author handled the love-triangles and drama and feel-good vibes with her take on angels and demons, but this installment completely sealed the deal for me. I am seriously following it til the end now (and I really hope the ending leads to where I'm praying it does?) cause man... that ending blew my heart and mind.

I hope this never ends anytime soon, and I'd honestly take it any way I can; spin-offs, different MCs, whatever. The Sacrifice revolved around the last few months of Sloan's happy life before the big storm. It's pregnancy aches, moments of insecurity as a human whale supporting life. Compared to the other books, I thought this one was more for the people who'd read the previous installments. It was a lot of good-humor banter and conversations, 'normal' moments for this mom-to-be who didn't have any sort of normalcy for a long time. Sure, they all kept up with solving the big mystery of the moment and interacted with other supernatural beings to keep things flowing and interesting, but majority of the time, I was following a very preggo Sloan doing mundane things (well, as mundane as it could get for this warrior angel). A sort of 'last meal' is what it felt like for her, getting the best of what the universe could offer her, before everything was forced to change forever. The ending totally broke my heart and caught me completely off guard, and I was crying, but at the same time, I couldn't think of a better way that didn't go with something predictable. I sincerely hope it doesn't end here because there's still so much I want from Sloan and the others!

Before starting to read Elicia Hyder’s “Soul Summoner” series, I had absolutely no desire to read anything even remotely paranormal, but so many book-loving friends whose opinions I trust told me how great it was, that I finally caved.

Best. Decision. Ever.

Thankfully, there were already three books in the series so I could read back-to-back-to-back, and then I had to wait for book four, The Taken. It was painful, that wait. But when the book finally came out... WOW! Wild, wild ride, with pregnancy hormones to stir things up even more.

Then came the wait for The Sacrifice which, due to my new status as an Advance Reader, was shorter than it otherwise would have been; this is the easiest review I’ve ever written.

If you like intricate, exceedingly well-plotted, twisty-turny, blow your mind and wrench emotions out of you you didn’t know you had and can’t even name, then The Sacrifice is for you. But don’t you DARE try to read it without reading the first four (in publication order!) first.

These books are “keepers,” no matter how full your bookshelves might already be.

Best Seller!!

O.M.G. What a story! This was totally fascinating! This entire series is a must read!

I loved Sloan’s entire journey. This story is so detailed and descriptive it keeps you totally focused on absorbing every little detail. This author’s imagination is incredible. The otherworldly cleverness gives these characters such powerful personalities and makes one wonder just how much of this could really be in existence. The characters come alive on each and every page keeping you reading way beyond bedtime!

I love Nathan. He is such a good guy. His personality is adorable and anyone that loves Skittles is totally sexy. Sloan is hilarious and intense. A part of her lives in all of us. I love how she and Adrianne interact. They have a bond that is envious.

No spoilers. I could describe each fabulous character but you just need to read this story! I recommend reading this entire series! I can’t wait for what comes next from this author.
Excellent job! I loved it!

Kasyade, Sloan’s demon mother, has kidnapped her best friend Adrianne. What does she want but, Sloan’s unborn baby of course!? With the help of Warren, Nathan and Azrael, Sloan begins to search for Kasyade and Adrianne. An unlikely alliance is formed as Sloan must strengthen her skills. Will they be able to get to Adrianne in time and is she going to be strong enough to do what needs to be done? Kill mommy dearest!
This is book 5 in the series and with each book I feel Elicia has outdone herself. Well…she did it again! The Sacrifice is fast paced; I could not put it down. In true Elicia style, she had me laughing, crying (more like had to put the book down sobbing) and when I got to the last page, sad I had finished. This is a must read series (start with book 1 if this is your first) and I guarantee you will love it as much as I do!

Fans of the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones are going to love Sloane and the Soul Summoner series. This book is an emotional roller coaster ride that had me nervous, laughing, and crying like a baby. The story and action are fast-paced and I was up all night reading to see how it ended. I absolutely could not put this one down. This is definitely my favorite in the series so far. With an ending that tugs on your heartstrings and has you desperately wanting the next book to hurry up, you will not be disappointed with this read. I can see so many different directions the author can take the series next. I know I will love it no matter what!

The story had a hold of me till the end. I cried, got mad, and laughed with the characters. The story has a nice steady pace to keep the story moving along. The author does a good job making me feel like I’m apart of their family or friend, as I watch their world unfold. Very well written and had me crying close to the end. I hope you enjoy the series as much as I have. I will be stalking the author for along time for more of their books.

Ok, this is just a a “quickie” review. Unfortunately, I’m in in a hospital and asked my husband to post this since I don’t have the time to do better - even though the book definitely deserves it.

Bottom line: five stars. This was one wonderfully fun novel and definitely recommended. It had just what I wanted and was well written and with a great plot and great cast of characters.

This book was so worth the wait. It has laugh out loud funny settings and some very sad ones. The ending was kind of what I had been expecting for awhile. Sloan finally has the chance to find out who her biological father is. She also gets one last talk with her mother. Now to wait and see what happens in the next book.

I didn’t realise how invested I was

Well, I’m writing this review snivelling into a tissue as we speak. The journey I’ve been on so far with Sloan has been a rollercoaster ride of action and emotions. I’m not going to discuss the plot for this book, as I don’t want to give even the slightest peak of a spoiler. But man did it make me sob. I’m also sad because I know that the journey is nearly over with this series, and I’ve absolutely loved every minute of it.

The is The Sacrifice, the final book(ITS NOT THE FINAL BOOK!!) of The Soul Summoner series written by Elicia Hyder. Wow! This book is explosive and action packed,! Fast paced and page turning! Edge of your seat, sleep depriving and just can’t put down conclusion to quite a thrilling ride! As the birth of their daughter draws near, Warren and Sloan and their band of family and friends, prepare as well as they can for the fight of their lives. Awful and gut wrenching decisions and sacrifices (see what Elicia Hyder did there?) are going to be needed to spare the life of the supernatural being that Sloan is carrying. You won’t be able to put it down and you will be ugly crying by the end. I’m now going to go sit in the corner and rock myself for a while as I absorb the ending. Good luck! This one will rip right through you! CORRECTION!! NOT THE FINAL BOOK!!

Oh my gosh this book just had me wanting to scream

I loved all the books in the series and loved Warren and Sloan together, but this book just felt like my heart was ripped out when I was done. I was expecting a happy ending and this book did not give me that feeling. All the action was at the end and I was just left wanting more when I was finished. The end left me in a puddle of tears and I was left wondering "this is it?" . After all the crap Sloan went through there should have been a happier ending for her and Warren. It just made me depressed.
