Breaking Cat News #2

Lupin Leaps In: A Breaking Cat News Adventure

Rate this book
Lupin Leaps In is a brand-new comic collection of Breaking Cat News for middle grade readers!  This just in: Three adorable house cats are reporting the most hilarious breaking news! Based on author/illustrator Georgia Dunn’s real-life pets, Elvis, Lupin, and Puck strap on neckties and pick up microphones to provide the most up-to-date relevant news stories (at least according to them).

Picking up where they last left off in Breaking Cat News, are Elvis, Puck, and Lupin reporting on the breaking news that matters to cats. Cynical, no-nonsense Elvis and shy, sweet, sensitive Puck are the reporter kitties in the field, while the adventurous jokester Lupin serves as anchor cat. Together, they're back to break headlines on mysterious man "tails," all things holiday-related, new cat friends, and all the daily happenings in and outside their home.

The "More to Explore" section includes how to draw the BCN news crew, how to draw expressions, how to draw your pet as a reporter, and paper dolls of the crew, along with props and extras!

Lupin, Puck and Elvis are back with their breaking news on the events in their households. They report on the ceiling cats, the toddler, the holiday celebrations, the new baby and more. So many situations cat lovers will identify with like cats sitting on books and more. A fun read.

Thank you, Andrews McMeel and NetGalley for a digital ARC of this entertaining new graphic novel.

Breaking Cat News is my go-to daily webcomic for sweetness, comfort and fun, so I'd read these comics before, but I was delighted to preorder the paper collection for lots of comfort-rereads (for myself and for my kids, who love it too). And it would have been a great collection even if those familiar, fun comics were all that had been included. But Georgia Dunn also added a great section at the back with tips for creating comics, guides for drawing her characters, and even an assortment fun cut-out paper cats, so I'm really looking forward to sharing that back section with my kids (both of whom love drawing comics of their own).

Readers who have spent any time at all with cats will agree that Georgia Dunn knows the species well. In a series of cartoons, she follow three felines as they report on life at home with their human companions known as Man and Woman. Lupin serves as the news anchor while Elvis and Puck head out to the field to bring interesting stories to their viewers. Each cat has its own personality and quirks, and many of these cartoons made me laugh, particularly how Puck attacks Man's electric razor in order to protect him from harm or how the three cats hate being dressed up for holidays. There are poignant moments too as Elvis gets lost outdoors and is befriended by a stray cat whose human companion has been looking for him. The final panel in which the cats are thrilled by a new bathroom toy--an empty toilet roll--reminded me of how my cats act when such an object is left nearby. Anyone who is feeling grumpy needs to read these cartoons, which will elevate someone's mood immediately and maybe prompt a back or tummy rub for the cat resting nearby.

Very cute comic about a group of cats and the changing luves of their family. My favourite is cat about town Tommy. I think this did a good job of showing off the range of cat personalities and attitudes, from deeply loyal one minute to standoffish the next.

I am a lifelong lover of comic strips. My earliest memories of my father reading the "funny papers to me before I learned how to read. I've been a big fan of Breaking Cat News since its early days as a web comic. It is so much more than a comic strip. It is a collection of illustrated stories. Georgia Dunn is a talented artist who has used her artistic and story telling skills to create a world in which her three real life cats have formed a news network to report on household and world events from their point of view. It is quickly obvious that this woman knows her cats!

This book takes up where the first book, "Breaking Cat News: Cats Reporting on the News that Matters to Cats" leaves off. It contains the reports in the original web comics format. If your only experience with Breaking Cat News has been the black and white newspaper versions, you will be thrilled with the vibrant colors and added details of the original Breaking Cat News reports. In addition there are mini art lessons to help one learn how to draw cats and a lovely letter of encouragement to would be cartoonists. The best bonus for me was the inclusion of paper dolls of the three main reporters along with changes of clothing and news room and story related props.

Not a fan of comics but still a fan of cat literature? This book is for you. Though the publishers seem to be marketing this for children, it is for cat lovers of all ages. I can't wait for the next collection!

Contrary to the title, Georgia Dunn’s second book, "Lupin Leaps In: A Breaking Cat News Adventure" is not a single story following BCN Anchor and Cat of Adventure Lupin, but rather it’s another collection of comic strips created by Ms. Dunn for her online comic strip. I’m happy to say that her ‘strip is now in something over 100 newspapers throughout the US (alas, not yet here in Canada as far as I know) and it is attracting lots of praise and love. This collection includes some of my very favourite ‘strips, including Puck’s “right over the rainbow” ecstasy, the July bug, Lupin becoming Fluffapurrus Rex, and many many more. We are also introduced to new characters, including Tommy the Outdoor Reporter, and the two Upstairs Cats, Sir Figaro Newton and Tabitha, who speak Spanish and are also reporters with GN (the “G” stands for “gato,” Spanish for cat). Best of all, at the back of the book is “More to Explore,” a series of activity pages including Ms. Dunn’s very generous tips for drawing cartoons including her own, BCN paper doll clothing sets and more. I adore this ‘strip and therefore will not pretend to present an unbiased view of this book; instead, I will urge anybody who loves cats to check this comic strip out because you’ll fall in love with it too, guaranteed!

I have been following Georgia Dunn's "Breaking Cat News" ever since Neatorama.com posted about it. Since then I have been a bit of an evangelist for her work. Most of my family follows her strip at GoComics (https://www.gocomics.com/breaking-cat...). It is a topic of conversation with my girlfriend and between her and her family.

This is her second book and is a collection of early strips that were originally posted to her website, prior to being pickup for syndication. Most of the strips have seasonal references. The titular adventure is when Lupin (the white cat on the cover) climbs down a laundry chute and runs into neighbor cats.

This has some of her best work, specifically the Christmas Adventure. While it does not have the impact it did as it was being released over a month, it is still her signature graphic novella.

Anyone who misses classic comics that had personality, character development and plots need to get this book.

If you love gentle humor and cats being cats, you need this book. Lupin, Puck and Elvis are three cats who live with their people and report the news that's important to cats with the help of their friends. Feline olympics, the 3 AM running like maniacs on a sugar rush, the cats upstairs, the nearby barn cat, they're all here. And if you buy this book, you need to check out Georgia's continuation of the comic strip on the GoComics page. Great stuff that'll make you grin and laugh, especially if you have cats.

I collect cartoons and comics, and I am a cat lover, so I am somewhat biased, but I am not ashamed to admit that I really like this strip. Its gentle humor from the cat perspective is a winner. And the illustrations are very appealing. I am a bit surprised that the blurb for this book describes it as a middle grade book. It is my impression that it is more ageless. It seems to me that it would appeal to anyone who likes gentle humor and the antics of cats.

A delight from start to finish. The book contains several strips from the comic prior to when it was published in newspapers. It is a follow up from the first book and the art has matured and become even more lovely than the art of the first strips. This book contains several story arcs from the strip and can be read as chapters.

Breaking News - It’s Purrrfect

Breaking Cat News is the only news I look forward to. This is a book I plan to read over and over and over until Lupin, Puck, and Elvis — and their affiliates — bring us another edition.

A collection of Breaking Cat News comics that look at both daily household events, holiday events, seasonal events, and noteworthy (to cats) incidents from the perspective of three house cats who live with a man, a woman, a baby/toddler, and then another baby.

Many of these comics are quite funny for the oh-so-believable cat perspective (my favorite was the annual gourd sacrifice report and there are way too many options for me to choose a 2nd favorite). Definitely recommended for cat lovers and readers who appreciate how a unique perspective on the ordinary can make it humorous. Also a good pick for those looking for a comic that will appeal to a wide age range of readers (I’d say middle grade on up to adult should get the humor, but even advanced lower grade readers should find it approachable).

Notes on content [Based on ARC]: No content issues.

I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have followed Breaking Cat News since it was a webcomic, and this book opens with the first strip I ever read: "The Man Has Lost His Tail" in which the cats are concerned because The Man has cut his hair. Lupin, Elvis, Puck, Tommy, the Ceiling Cats and the whole case are an absolute delight. This is a strip I never miss. Georgia Dunn captures feline sensibilities along with a sweet and gentle tone that somehow makes the world better.

Lupin Leaps In was a delightful collection of Breaking Cat News comics following three adorable kitties and their adventures.

Reporters Elvis, Lupin, and Puck cover all things relevant to cats at the big pink house. Adventurous Lupin serves as anchor while Elvis and Puck are reporters in the field. From ceiling cats to adventures in the laundry room, these reporters are ready to cover it all.

Breaking Cat News is one of my favorite comic strips that I have been reading for years after my husband showed it to me. I love the idea of kitties acting as little reporters as it seems like something cats would do due to their curious natures. The illustrations in this comic are adorable and you can actually see them evolve slightly from the beginning of the book to the end as Dunn improves her skills. Dunn captures cat expressions and movements so well that I recognize some of them from my own cats.

Elvis, Lupin, and Puck report on a number of things in the big pink house throughout the book. We are introduced to the ceiling cats who speak Spanish and see their version of their own news show. Tommy, a big cat who has been wandering into the cats' backyard for a while, becomes a reporter on the move for BCN. Lupin also explores the laundry room after he uncovers a laundry chute that accesses the basement. Each of their adventures are more humorous than the last.

Lupin Leaps In was an adorable book that I highly recommend to cat lovers. I will definitely be picking up more of these collections for my shelves in the future.

I love these cats and their antics and their opinions of humans. I've already reread it--and caught things I missed. And I've just ordered the first book, Breaking Cat News. (I don't care for animals dressed in human clothes, but I'm willing to overlook that in this case--and the seasonal outfits are fun.) Puck, Lupin, and Elvis are based on author/illustrator Georgia Dunn's cats; and I believe the books are a compilation of her comic strips. So much fun and funny ideas--and Easter Eggs! And I love Tabitha (the alpha female of the ceiling cats) too. I want to share more (Scottish cats, human food, pumpkins, the tower in the living room, the Christmas tree, etc., but it'll be more fun when you discover them for yourselves. And there are fun activities in the back of the book.

Note: Just came across an upcoming book, and I'm about to put that on my Wish List.

Very cute story about three cats who live in a house with their family. The cats act like news reporters reporting all kinds of news that is happening in the home and around their neighborhood. There are some parts that are laugh out loud funny, like when the cats find another set of cats living upstairs. Good, fun read!

More all-star reporting from the BCN (Breaking Cat News). The sweetest moment of the book - lovable Tommy finds his family after being on his own for so long, and ornery Elvis makes a friend and earns his 'good boy!' stripes. Lupin's adventurous side takes him to uncharted territory (a mystical laundry chute), and sweet natured Puck is always available to help a family member in need.

I love these guys. Dunn captures the idiosyncrasies that make our pets beloved and exasperating. The people are nice, but when she draws the cats in pajamas it makes me
smile.

Cats. They just have their own worlds, don't they?
There seems to be a theme with my current reading list and animals in outfits.

Just as good as the first volume, and I'm very pleased there's a collection I can share with kids (weirdly, the original book is shelved in Adult?). The all crack me up and I love the story of the outdoor fat cat!

Once again full of adorableness; we're introduced to the "ceiling cats", one of whim Elvis does NOT get along with and Elvis finds his own baby human to love. Plus we learn what's up with that backyard cat and the mysteries of the laundry room!
