After a year spent trying to prevent a catastropic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson finds his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson--a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any "normal" friends.

But things don't stay quiet for long. Percy soon discovers there is trouble at Camp Half-Blood: The magical borders which protect Half-Blood Hill have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and the only safe haven for demigods is on the verge of being overrun by mythological monsters. To save the camp, Percy needs the help of his best friend, Grover, who has been taken prisoner by the Cyclops Polyphemus on an island somewhere in the Sea of Monsters--the dangerous waters Greek heroes have sailed for millenia--only today, the Sea of Monsters goes by a new name...the Bermuda Triangle.

Now Percy and his friends--Grover, Annabeth, and Tyson--must retrieve the Golden Fleece from the Island of the Cyclopes by the end of the summer or Camp Half-Blood will be destroyed. But first, Percy will learn a stunning new secret about his family--one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon's son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.

I enjoyed this so much! Though I will admit that I didn't enjoy it as much as book one. Percy is such a fun narrator and I'm excited to continue following his journey.

Tyson 4Ever.

Some time after the events of The Lighting Thief, Camp Half Blood protection spells starts waning to the point of almost breaking apart completely, leaving its borders wide open and unprotected from monster attacks. Upon the impending destruction of the only haven left for demigods, Percy, Annabeth, Tyson and Clarisse embark on a desperate quest to find the Golden Fleece, the only sacred relic capable of healing Thalia’s Tree and restore its defensive powers. On a separate plane, Grover missing and possibly subject of a fatal destiny. His time running short, or maybe already too late.

This was a fantastic sequel. Percy and Annabeth great as always, Clarisse still hateful but scoring some redeeming points, but of all the characters the ever innocent and selfless Tyson was the one that truly captured my heart. Amazing character development. A bit slowly paced compared to the first installment, but still fully action packed. Some epic memorable moments and incredible battles against mythological figures like giants, Hydra, Scylla, Charybdis, Circe and Polyphemus, among others. Luke was also there. And you gotta love the Hippocampi! The ending was spectacular, hilarious, crazy, and terrible. And an absolutely mind blowing cliffhanger to seal the deal.

*** The movie (2013) was a somewhat better adaptation, at least compared to the disappointing first. Fairly faithful to the book, and averagely entertaining. Thank god Head replaced Brosnan as Chiron! Lerman and Daddario a bit more seasoned and convincing this time. Ambience, pacing and ending good enough, I guess. Nevertheless, despite some things done right, the sequel was yet again overall not convincing and failed to hit all the right spots, and by far. Acceptable enough to be watched, yet not enjoyable enough to be worth it. I love the series, but regarding the movies, I can live without, and I’m not surprised this was the last one to be filmed.

Tyson x100Pre.

✅ Reread (July 2024)

It's been yearsss and the cliffhanger still hits 🤌🤌

~•~•~
Original review-

Sea of Monsters is the most underrated book of the PJO series. I realise there are many iconic moments from this one. This is the book when you really start to ship Percabeth. The slow burn *chef's kiss*. The way Percy held Annabeth when they encountered the sirens🥺This book gives you a really good cliffhanger which just makes you want to pick up the next book immediately. The scene with "Nobody" = awesome.

Also I just want to make it clear I will fight for Tyson. He's precious. It was really satisfying to see how both Percy and Annabeth developed their relationship with him. Also let's not forget badass Clarisse. I really admire her character and we get to see more of her softer side later in the series.

Can't wait to read the Titan's Curse😩

A guy in Greek armor drew his sword and charged, but slipped in a puddle of pina colada.

Really, who can not love a book with lines like that? I actually had the urge take this book in my hand with a strong grip and whirl it towards my head for waiting so long to read this series. I just kept putting it off for some reason or other. Luckily I came to my senses.

For the most part things have been pretty quiet this school year and Percy even makes a new friend named Tyson, a giant of a kid. Well, this is the Percy Jackson series and things don't stay quiet for long. Monsters come in and attack the gym during a game of dodgeball and chaos ensues, and Percy learns that something terribly wrong has happened. The tree that signifies Thalia's sacrifice has been poisoned and Camp Half-Blood is no longer safe.

Riordan has made quite a world here, but that's not the only thing you need to get a good story. Characters are SO important and he doesn't forget that. All of them are typically well drawn out. After finishing this one I feel like I know Percy and Annabeth a little better than I did before. We get to see some new characters, Tyson being my favorite and new powers and awesome mythological information. What really impresses me is that it can be funny, witty, informational, believable, smart, suspenseful at the same time without the reader losing the sense of adventure and how much heart all the characters have. What's so cool is that the action never seems to slow down, the action star in me is thoroughly satisfied. The ending is setup well for the next book, and just shows how tricky our villain is. I actually wish I could write a longer very concise and intelligent review about this book (maybe I couldn't accomplish that) but I don't want to give anything away, and really the book can stand on it's own without my help.

Most people have read them all by now so this message is for you stragglers who waited so long like myself: GO AND READ IT! I doubt you'll regret it.

Added later: Guess what? They decided to go ahead and make a movie based off the second book. The trailer looks promising guys!

Another 5* from Celyn.

I read this book to her out of order, having read book 1 then book 3 before it. I hate it when people do that, but the books are pretty stand-alone and we picked the wrong one when leaving the house in a hurry.

Actually I can now better appreciate the cross-book story and it's quite clever, so that's good.

This volume continues the mix of Greek myth, modern America, and teenagers. Percy battles through various monsters in bloodless battles where the beasties turn to mist on their deaths and reform years later. We're introduced to his half-brother, a cyclops, and a quest is launched to thwart the dastardly plan to destroy Camp Half-Blood. Various famed nasties are encountered including (& here I'm not going to google the correct spelling) Lastrigonian giants, Stymphalian birds, Charybdis and Scylla, Circe, and Polyphemus. Hermes pops up too.

It's all rowdy and fairly random fun raiding not only Greek myth but other periods of history to give us a Civil War gunboat and some famous pirates to boot.

The twist is actually a clever one, neatly mirroring the villan's supposed victory with the heroes'.

Solid YA entertainment.

”We did all the standard numbers: ‘Down by the Aegean´, ´I Am My Own Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandpa´, ´This Land is Mino’s Land´. The bonfire was enchanted, so the louder you sang, the higher it rose, changing colour and heat with the mood of the crowd.”

Sounds like a really nice night at Camp Halfblood, right? I mean who wouldn’t want to sing “This Land is Mino’s Land”? (On a side-note: Uncle Rick if you read this, can I please have the lyrics for those songs? *lol* I’d love to read them!!!) Unfortunately not everything is as it seems, and Percy isn’t only plagued by strange dreams of his best friend wearing a bridal gown (Hey there Grover, you’re looking good! ;-P) but also by a few ancient monsters that apparently feel a need to attack his home.

But worry not! We all know that for every problem there is a solution and of course Annabeth already figured it out. I guess to have a daughter of Athena at your side really comes in handy sometimes. ;-) Especially if you’re a very practical and down-to-earth person like Percy.

”I’ll give you a hint. What do you get when you skin a ram?”
“Messy?”

See, very practical indeed. *lol* Otherwise he probably would have never figured out that you don’t only get messy but also get a “Golden Fleece” as well. (Of course only if your sheep actually happens to be a golden sheep, but that’s another story for another day. ;-P) Anyway, moving on. Camp Halfblood is in trouble and the only thing that’s able to help them to restore their protective barrier is the Golden Fleece. So our favourite demi-gods do what they do best: They go on a dangerous quest! XD

”I thought about it. It did seem a little weird, but, I mean, doughnut shops weren’t really high on my list of sinister forces.”

I totally agree with you Percy, but what about the dangers of the sea? Sirens, hydras, a sinister sorceress, a woman with six dog heads or a sea monster that swallows entire ships? What about guinea pigs? Guess they all count as sinister forces. (Yes, even the guinea pigs! *lol*) Well, I’m pretty sure by now you all realized that Percy’s quest is rather adventurous and I admit it, even perilous. Our favourite hero wouldn’t be our favourite hero if he wouldn’t be able to circumnavigate all those lethal dangers though, (pun, totally intended! XD) and in the end …

Well, what did you expect? Did you really think I’d spoil you? *lol*
Nope, I won’t. You’ll have to find out for yourself. ;-P
I’ll only tell you as much: It was a fun ride once again and after that mean cliff-hanger I can’t wait to get a hold of the next book! =)

”Families are messy. Immortal families are eternally messy. Sometimes the best we can do is to remind each other that we’re related, for better or worse … and try to keep the maiming and killing to a minimum.”

"Oy! Goaties! Sheepies!"
"Medea's Sunscreen SPF 50,000."

Percy Jackson is all geared up to take us through the second adventure, with the help of a new set of characters. And the Bermuda Triangle - did not see that one coming. The plot is great, and keeps the overall tone set in first book intact, while moving along a little more complicated journey. And the character interactions are more believable compared to the first, where we had the 12-year-old Percy killing off monsters from the very beginning. And this is a lot more hilarious, of which I'm no longer going to complaining, unlike I did with the first. Though it reduces the suspense somewhat, it's so much fun to read. As for the ending, which is kind of a dramatic cliffhanger, will certainly keeps things well connected to the next book.

"I started a marble bust of Poseidon, but it started looking like Sylvester Stallone, so I ditched it."

There is one thing that keeps nagging at me ever since I started this series. Had I begun Percy Jackson and the Olympians before Harry Potter, I might've given both books I read so far 5-stars. But our perspectives change with each finished book, while affecting the way we enjoy them. And on a completely unrelated subject, I - who had no knowledge whatsoever in Greek Mythology - am now becoming kind of an expert of Greek gods: can remember almost all 12 major ones as I'm finishing the second book of the series.

"If there's one thing I've learned over the eons, it's that you can't give up on your family, no matter how tempting they make it."

if you see me lowering my 5 star rating to 4, look away

(this has always been my least favorite of the series but I still love it of course)

——————

Annabeth: she fell off and died along the way but that’s not important

Percy: well it was probably important to her

...don’t mind me crying over this for no reason...

——————

it’s Percy Jackson’s birthday and I’m going through a reading slump, so tell me right now, to my face, one good reason I shouldn’t start rereading the rest of this series

its been a minute, but im finally back in the world of percy jackson and all the greek mythology goodness!

just like when i read ‘the lightning thief,’ i really wish i had read this when i was middle grade aged. it definitely would have kickstarted my obsession with greek mythology much earlier. that is for sure the strength of this series, especially when reading as an adult. the fun little cameo of circe in this was such a highlight for me. its so entertaining to see these myths play a part in such an excitingly wholesome story.

even though this installment is a little short and a bit of a filler sequel, im still very much interested to see how the series plays out. these books are just so lighthearted and fast paced, they make for the perfect pleasure read!

Loving this series.

Between working my way through this series, the Harry Potter series, and Miss Peregrine’s series this year, I am enjoying myself immensely. I am apparently newly obsessed with middle grade fantasy and comic books.

Who would have thunk it.

And to know Riordan has three other series in addition to this one just makes me childishly joyful.

What is it with me and not knowing how I feel about rating a book lately!

I would like to give all the stars to Tyson! I am in love with Tyson and what he is =) I'm really hoping to get more of him in the other books.

I thought the rest of the book was good and I love reading about all of the creatures. Of course, Percy and them are usually getting in trouble with all of said creatures. Well, not the sweet ones.

I look forward to finishing the box set =)

Tyson has my WHOLE HEART!

This book was honestly so funny! Tyson, Mr. D and Percy all had me laughing throughout the entire book. The hummus dialogue?! The "What's that?!" questioning?! Peter Johnson?! This book had the comedy down.

I also loved Percy's journey with embracing Tyson after so much uncertainty, slight jealousy, prejudice, and embarrassment. It was truly beautiful to see Percy accept him at the end!

And the plot twist?! Wheeeew, I know I've read this book before but I was still on the edge of my seat.

Tomorrow, I'd be be on my way to my favorite place in the world-Camp Half-Blood.

This is the last day in Percy's 7th grade. For the first time in his life, he almost makes it an entire year without getting expelled. No attacks or anything that can make him expelled and tomorrow he'll be going to camp Half-Blood but then Percy's mother tells him that Chiron sent her a message last night saying that it might not be safe for Percy to come to Camp half-blood and Percy also gets this nightmare that is involving Grover.

what happens at Camp Half-Blood? Why does Chiron say that it might not be safe for Percy to come to Camp Half-Blood because Camp Half-Blood is like the safest place on earth for half bloods and will something bad happen on this last day? and what kind of nightmare Percy gets that is involving Grover?

you need to read the book to know the answers ;p

🌊 My Opinion 🌊

Actually, I'm supposed to post this review yesterday but I didn't because I went to the cinema yesterday with my mom and big brother and we came home very late, it's midnight. Okay, now let's talk about the book!

description

to be honest, I expected much from this book since I really really enjoyed the first book. I'm not saying this book wasn't good. I'm just saying that the first book was better than this sequel. the first book was funnier than this sequel and I just felt I was missing someone and that ' Someone ' was Grover. he didn't get many scenes in this book because ... well, I can't tell you that because it would be a spoiler. Grover is one of my favorite characters in this series, so for me a book without many scenes of him would kind of feel ... I don't know, lack of something. lack of his humor. But I still enjoyed it even though I didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed reading the first book.

But the plot of this book was exciting and I didn't get bored at all. I always found myself feeling excited and curious about what would happen next, But I still felt like something was missing when I didn't see Grover much.

now let's talk about Clarisse, I didn't like her in the first book for what she did or about to do to Percy and she was really mean towards Percy.

description

but in this book, I realized she isn't that mean. I still don't like how she acted to Percy in the first book but in this book, she's ... pretty nice to him and that means she's not completely mean. just read the book (if you haven't read it ) and you'll know what I mean and I feel disappointed to Luke. I didn't expect him to be this evil. and HOW DARE HE DID THAT TO PERCY!! I hope he gets hurt in the next book. UGH, I hate him.

description

I already ordered the fourth and the fifth book and I have a copy of the third book but I can't read it now! Because if I read the third book now, then when I finish it and the fourth book still hasn't came, then I will be very very impatient. So I decided to read something else and when the fourth and the fifth book arrive at my home then I will read the third book. I SHOULD'VE ORDERED THEM SOONER. *sighs*

thank you for reading and liking this review, guys. I appreciate it so much and I hope you all have a great weekend!❤ ❤

P.S. : TYSON! I LIKE HIM SO MUCH! I hope I'll see him again in the next books.

Wowowowo!! What an amazing adventure it was!! I loved it! Percy's narration was still amazing!

Now Camp Half-Blood's magical boundary has been weakened as someone has poisoned the Pine Tree which strengthen it. There is only cure to reverse the effect of poison. For this cure, Percy has to go on a quest to find it. A fatal quest!

I loved everything in this book!!
Action scenes were amazing.
Chariot Races were also amazing.
Every single character in this book is enjoyable and interesting. Especially Tyson is an amazing addition. I really wish to see him in the next book.
Ending was shocking. I didn't see that coming. Titan Lord, again, fooled Percy.

Overall, I LOVED THIS BOOK!!

Perseus Jackson, did your mother not teach you to never accept gifts from strangers?

Honestly, I didn’t enjoy this as much as the first book, but I still found myself highly entertained and curious to continue seeing where Percy and his friends would go on their next quest. This sequel is still fun. We follow Percy and Annabeth, as well as Tyson and then other campers and characters making appearances, as they make their way to the Sea of Monsters to save Grover from being married to a Cyclops. The characters Rick has created are the highlight of this series so far, and I know it’s only book 2, but they make the reading experience highly memorable. Percy is still his sassy self, although we are seeing some potential and future growth; Annabeth remains highly strong and purposeful; and instead of Grover, we meet a new cast member, Tyson, a Cyclops who ends up being Percy’s half-baby brother, son of Poseidon. Seeing this trio was amusing, full of uncertainties, snark, and juvenile but realistic banter. Tyson is a fun addition to the cast, adorable and vulnerable but still solid and optimistic. He has the personality and intelligence of a kid still, but he’s witty, loving, and courageous, never letting himself be brought down. He provides the necessary laughter between Percy and Annabeth. I wish the best for him, and I hope this isn’t the last time we’ll hear from him.

One thing I’ve already noticed in Rick’s writing is how there is never a dull moment. His writing is entertaining, allowing the reader to become fully immersed in his characters and their journeys. Rick’s writing is never settled down, never dull, and overall has an enjoyable tone. I can easily see how this series was entertaining for kids and teens, showing a world of laughter and humor but also vulnerability underneath it. The journey overall has never grown unpleasant. There is always something new happening, never a moment where the characters aren’t either saving themselves, trying not to be killed, or trying to save others.

That said, I found this story less funny than the first book and a little more serious. I’m not exactly complaining, as it never felt boring or overwritten. However, because of the tone of the first book, I expected this to follow a similar pattern. Percy’s character felt a little less witty, even though I loved seeing how his character genuinely came to life as the story progressed. I don’t doubt Annabeth’s character will become a favorite. She’s stronghearted, brave, and trustworthy, all while remaining cautious, and for good reason. Her friendship with Percy has been delightful to see. They’re still kids, but they both have big hearts and want to make a positive outcome in the future. There is also less Greek mythology in this, in my opinion. There are even newer characters, newer names, and more people to remember. Still, they didn’t feel as relevant as most characters in the first book, even if they were just side characters or characters who were there for their appearances.

There are a few other characters who I am not the biggest fan of, but they all have their intentions. My friend told me Clarisse has her redemption, and I’m hoping it will be enough because right now, she has me pulling my hair out of frustration. I cannot imagine her and Percy being anything other than rivals, especially after everything that happened with Ares. I don’t hate her, especially after witnessing her dad be his true, cruel self towards her, but I still don’t hold out the most sympathy. There are other characters like Luke, that traitorous child I can’t bring myself to hate for some reason. Maybe it’s because he’s a kid who just wants his father’s recognition and love. Perhaps it’s because he feels abandoned by him. Maybe it’s because deep down after being let down by the good side, he thinks the other side is the way to go.

All in all, this was delightful to read. I’m ending this review here, as I am impatient and need to get to book 3 ASAP after that ending.

Ugh, I’m sooooo late with this review (not that anyone has been holding their breath since – let’s be real – I’m probably that 0.01% who hasn’t read Percy Jackson in their life) but hey better late than never, right?

Soooo, this book. This book was epic. For a middle school series, Rick Riordan truly went all out. The characters, the plot, the battles, the adventures; the pre-wedding it was all spectacular.

(Notice all the vague adjectives I’m using bc I’m a loser who went ahead and read the next book before writing this review so like don’t blame me if I end up monologue about scenes from book 3)

description
Percy and Annabeth will completely be the death of me, I mean they aren’t even a ship yet and I’ve become such dedicated trash, it’s wonderful
I actually spend hours on a daily basis sighing over fanart

So in this book, we continue from where book one left off. Percy is back in a mortal school and so far he’s year has been shockingly average. But the fun is yet to start when Percy successfully though unintentionally destroys yet another school (and getting expelled in the process).

He lands himself back in Camp Half-blood, which is slowly wasting away due to a curse and it’s up to him and the others to set everything right again by retrieving the Golden Fleece.

To sum up, more action, more characters, more fun.

description

Although this series is meant for middle schoolers, my very-adult-self (hush, I’m allowed to say that now) was continuously engaged in the plot. Let’s all acknowledge that events are totally unrealistic but I think that just adds more fun to the story.

And let’s not forget the hilarity of this series, like the CHAPTER NAMES ARE #GOALS and the characters are so sassy omg how come I wasn’t this sassy back in middle school?

“You weren't able to talk sense into him?"
Well, we kind of tried to kill each other in a duel to the death."
I see. You tried the diplomatic approach.”

Anyways, we all know that I already finished the next book and I’m trying to rectify my terrible laziness for writing reviews by pretending I’m doing the responsible thing but like, the next book is waiting for me so byeeeeeeeeeeeeee

“That's what makes heroes so special. You carry the hopes of humanity into the realm of the eternal.”

4 stars!!!

All I have to say about this is that Grover and Tyson are the sweetest. And that's it.
And somehow, everything seems to go good and bad at the same time, but that simply can mean that the action is building nicely and it just gets more and more exciting.

˚˖𓍢ִ✧˚ ❝ I told Tantalus to go chase a doughnut. ❞

4.5 ☆ (I changed my mind; I'm rounding it up to five stars lol.)

I've been having so much fun getting re-obsessed with Percy Jackson! I read it so long ago, it's almost like reading it for the first time again. There's just something so comforting about this series, something you only find in special books like Harry Potter 🥺. No matter how many other books I read, I will always come back to this one. It never gets old.

Percabeth:

˚˖𓍢ִ✧˚ ❝ I'm glad you're not a guinea pig. ❞

↬ Quite literally my favorite ship of all time. Percabeth was one of the first ships my twelve-year-old self actually got invested in. They are just so perfect and adorable and precious and innocent omg. In The Lighting Thief, Percy and Annabeth are still pretty young so they're more like little besties with crushes. But now that they're getting older, we get some real moments like a hug or a kiss on the cheek 💙. I could rant forever about how much I love them honestly. My babies.

(the) Characters:

Percy: Persassy, Seaweed Brain... Percy has the best nicknames lol. I think he might have been my first fictional crush. He is so cute and sweet (but also super sassy and unserious ofc); Annabeth is a lucky girl lol. Also, his obsession with blue food! I love that.

Annabeth: The Wise Girl always slays so hard! She's probably my favorite half-blood. I love how Riordan made her blonde to shoot down the 'dumb blood' stereo type, because she is a genius. Even Percy admits it hehe.

Grover: I missed Grover is this one! He was always my least favorite of the trio, but I think the show made me like him more. I'm looking forward to seeing in more in The Titans Curse.

Luke: We don't talk about Luke no, no, no, nooooo...

(the) Plot:

↬ Ok but Grover in his wedding dress made me laugh so hard, I forgot about how funny this book is. Also the guinea pig incident... poor Percy. Honestly idk how Uncle Rick comes up with this stuff XD. The story line slayed obvi, never a dull moment with the halfbloods! AND THE ENDING AHHHH. Ik I've read Percy Jackson before, but I still gasped.

Conclusion:

↬ This book is amazing in every way possible; each aspect was perfect! I CAN'T WAIT TO KEEP REREADING THIS SERIES! I remember The Battle of the Labyrinth being my fav, so I'm super excited to get to that one! If you haven't read this series, PLEASE DO so we can fangirl together 🤭 tysm for reading this review, I tried to make it shorter this time lol.

I think the humor is definitely my favorite thing about these books. I wish I had read them a few years ago but I'm still really enjoying them as an adult too. I can't wait to read the next one!

Also, can we just talk about those Goodreads emails "You've finished the book!" I know, Goodreads. I just told you that myself.

🎧 — Ship in a bottle by Fin

⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻ THIS ENTIRE SERIES IS A STRAIGHT UP FIVE STARS FOR ME HONESTLY. I don't even think I could rate it any less, like it's physically impossible for my fingers to press the 4. This book was absolutely no less from the first, perfect in every way. And, of course, the Percabeth content was the peak of the book 😋.

rick's writing was amazing as always. Easy to understand and vibrant with magic. Making it from percy's point of view was his best decision honestly, because Percy and his thoughts make everything 10x better. The morals in this series are honestly so huge and powerful for a children's book, it kills me. Rick managed to write a book with the best humor and bind in such heavy topics so delicately. The writing is one of the best parts of this book.

the world-building is so simple. There's literally no complicated names or new piled information, and a majority of the setting was on a boat in the sea so... The relief of not having to know and pronounce complicated and new names is unbelievable.
Seeing this different side to the Greek Gods' family was a fresh change. Hermes and how he tried to get to Luke and get him to turn back 😭🫶🏼. The perspective of looking into the Olympian family is so exciting to me honestly, it's what makes me the most excited and interested in this series. It's everything. Reading this series is so exciting for me, because I'm such a greek mythology geek. Seeing all this stuff about the gods and other things is so different. If you didn't like the storyline, well, the building of the gods and the Greek mythology kept you there. It's the best aspects in the series and one that never gets old honestly.

all the characters were so interesting to read about. Hermes to Chiron, you wanted to know more. Everyone was written with more than just looks, they had depth to them, you connected with them. Rick Riordan has a talent for making us more curious about everything no matter who or what it is. It honestly kills me, I sympathize and am curious about so many questionable characters that it's concerning 😭.

That was so completely unfair that I told Tantalus to go chase a donut, which didn't help his mood.
percy the love of my fucking life omg 😭🫸🏼. You don't even understand how much I love this boy omg. My smart and brave baby 🫶🏼. His lines are everything, he made me cackle fr. The way he would destroy people he didn't like in his thoughts, i'm crying 😭. The way he loved his friend so much that he would leave camp against orders, sneak onto a ship, jump off said ship, end up on an island, turn into an steal a ship, sail in the sea, and save him from a giant sheep is literally gonna make me cry. Percy Jackson is one of the greenest book boyfriends you will ever read about. I literally adore him sm. If you can't like Percy, there's something genuinely wrong with you. The way that he cared about Annabeth and trusted Clarissa even though she tried to shove his face in a toilet, i love him so much my innocent perfect baby 🫶🏼.

𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞

To a terrible moment, there was silence. Then Annabeth shouted, "You haven't learned to throw any better, either!"
annabeth chase, the icon for all women. Me and eden were literally just talking about how absolutely amazing this girl is. She's literally one of the strongest girls ever. She's went through so much and lost so many it's heartbreaking. My smart girl ❤️‍🩹. She's literally everything. There's just something about this girl that just tells you she's perfect in ever single sense, i adore her. She's so badass and funny, ugh! Her plans, her lines, her everything. The way she watched percy through his bedroom window, CRYING 😭🫸🏼. sounds terrible out of context, but i swear she's not a stalker yall 😔. I kinda hate how she was mean to Tyson, but I totally understand where she was coming from. Best girl fr 😩.

𝐎𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬
Grover wasn't in this one as much, but my goat boy ate as always!! The empathy was so smart, I would probably forgot I had it and start throwing my shoes at the giant sheep guy who's name I can't spell 😔🫸🏼. Luke... I love him yall. He was just lead down the wrong path 😕🫶🏼. Clarissa the loml, i love her honestly she's everything. Especially in the later books!!

𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐡
AHHHHH OMGOMGOMG, THESE TWO GUYSS 😭. He jumped after her when she jumped overboard then held her underwater and let her cry into his shoulder 😭🫶🏼. He kept a picture of her in his notebook, omggg in absolute love with these two. Their bickering was absolute heaven, they're perfect in everyway 🥹❤️‍🩹.

“The real story of the Fleece: there were these two children of Zeus, Cadmus and Europa, okay? They were about to get offered up as human sacrifices, when they prayed to Zeus to save them. So Zeus sent this magical flying ram with golden wool, which picked them up in Greece and carried them all the way to Colchis in Asia Minor. Well, actually it carried Cadmus. Europa fell off and died along the way, but that's not important."
"It was probably important to her.”

➸ IM CRYINGGG, PERCY 😭😭

We only came close to dying six or seven times, which I thought was pretty good. Once, I lost my grip and found myself dangling by one hand from a ledge fifty feet above the rocky surf. But I found another handhold and kept climbing. A minute later Annabeth hit a slippery patch of moss and her foot slipped. Fortunately, she found something else to put it against. Unfortunately, that something was my face.
"Sorry," she murrmured.
"S'okay," I grunted, though I'd never really wanted to know what Annabeth's sneaker tasted like.

➸ I'm literally in love with them 😩💗

“You weren't able to talk sense into him?"
"Well, we kind of tried to kill each other in a duel to the death."
"I see. You tried the diplomatic approach.”

➸ BYEEE ALKLAKJSDLKASJD 🫸🏼🫸🏼

Before I could figure out how to apologize for being such an idiot, she tackled me with a hug, then pulled away just as quickly. "I'm glad you're not a guinea pig."
"Me, too." I hoped my face wasn't as red as it felt.

➸ my heartt 😩🫸🏼

I couldn't believe I'd come this far, lost Tyson, suffered through so much, only to fail - stopped by a big stupid monster in a baby-blue tuxedo kilt. Nobody was going to swat down my friends like that! I mean...nobody, not Nobody. Ah, you know what I mean.
➸ BYE ILHSM 😭🫶🏼

“Does truth have a moral?”

Mythologically speaking, if there's anything I hate worse than trios of old ladies, it's bulls. Last summer, I fought the Minotaur on top of Half-Blood Hill. This time what I saw up there was even worse: two bulls. And not just regular bulls - bronze ones the size of elephants. And even that wasn't bad enough. Naturally they had to breathe fire, too.
➸ mood tbh 😔

Ever come home and found your room messed up? Like some helpful person (hi, Mom) has tried to "clean" it, and suddenly you can't find anything? And even if nothing is missing, you get that creepy feeling like somebody's been looking through your private stuff and dusting everything with lemon furniture polish?
➸ percy really said: for may's mom 🫸🏼🫸🏼🫸🏼

“Powdered donuts," Tyson said earnestly. "I will look for powdered donuts in the wilderness." He headed outside and started calling, "Here, donuts!”
➸ TYSONNN, HE'S SUCH A CUTIE I LOVE HIM 🥹🫶🏼

Tantalus made a wild grab, but the marshmallow committed suicide, diving into the flames.
➸ bye alkdjaslkdjioewr 😭😭😭😭😭

"The moral?" Hermes asked. "Goodness, you act like it's a fable. It's a true story. Does truth have a moral?"
"Um ..."
"How about this: stealing is not always bad?"
"I don't think my mom would like that moral."

➸ I LVOE THIS BOY SO MUCH 🤗

Thalia had been turned into a pine tree when she was 12. Me... well, i was doing my best not to follow her example. I had nightmares about what Poseidon might turn me into if i were ever in the verge of death—plankton, maybe. Or a floating patch of kelp.
➸ bye my poor bb LKJASDLKASDJ

“Don't untie me," she said, "no matter what happens or how much I plead. I'll want to go straight over the edge and drown myself."
"Are you trying to tempt me?"
"Ha-ha.”

➸ THEM, JUST THEMM 😋

I'd missed Annabeth probably more than I wanted to admit.
➸ 😭💗

THAT Perseus always won. That's why my mom had named me after him, even if he was son of Zeus and I was son of Poseidon. The original Perseus was one of the only heroes in the Greek myths who got a happy ending. The others died-betrayed, mauled, mutilated, poisoned, or cursed by the gods. My mom hoped i would inherit Perseus's luck. Judging by how my life was going so far, i wasn't too optimistic.
➸ bye 😭🫸🏼

“Don't you ever feel that way? Like you could do a better job if you ran the world?"
'Um... no. Me running the world would be kind of a nightmare.”

➸ ALJKDSAKLSOIEWR 😭😭

“Okay," Annabeth said. "What exactly do you smell?"
"Something bad," Tyson answered.
"Great," Annabeth grumbled. "That clears it up.”

➸ BYE I LVOE HER 💗😭

“Tyson! Thank the gods, Annabeth is hurt!"
"You thank the gods that she is hurt?" he asked, puzzled.

➸ LAKSJDALSKDJ TYSON 😭😭

I don't get it. I just don't really like this series. My two kids would argue to the death with me about them, and I don't know why I don't like them, I just...don't.

Maybe I don't like ancient Greeks mixing with 21st-century Americans. Maybe it's Annabeth's recurring refrain of "oh my gods" that drives me insane, or maybe it's the fact that you can't turn 3 pages without Percy being in mortal peril. (Too much adventure is bad for the heart.) Maybe I can't buy into so many perfectly-timed rescues-from-nowhere when Percy is just about to bite the big one, or the way Percy goes into every new situation thinking, "maybe I shouldn't do this," but does it anyway and it's ALWAYS a trap by some monster. ALWAYS. A-L-W-A-Y-S. I know he's just an 8th grader, but golly gee Perce, wake up and smell the Cyclops Spit. Anytime you meet a new person, trust me, you should just turn and run. But you never do.

I'm just not interested. I don't care how he gets out of the next life-threatening situation. Just get out of it and let's move on to the next life-threatening situation, already.

With The Lightning Thief I thought maybe it was the audiobook's narrator that made me not enjoy it much, but I read this one myself, and I still just wasn't into it. I just wanted it to be over.

That's not to say that I don't like Rick Riordan, because I like him fine. Total contradiction, I know, but it's true. And because not every book is every person's cup o' tea, I'll keep recommending this series to kids, because they think it's awesome. And that's good with me.
