Jackson by Emily March is a 2019 St. Martin’s Press publication.

The McBride brothers have inherited some land near Redemption, Texas. As they inspect the land, they begin to see some real potential for development. Jackson, after going through a bitter divorce, is now in the midst of an even uglier custody battle. With time on his hands, he decides to remain in Redemption, giving him time to recoup and restore his equilibrium. But, the instant he first lays eyes on Caroline Carruthers, something within him stirs- the long dormant promise of hope and the reawakening of his talents and dreams.

However, Caroline is coping with some heavy emotions. Her husband’s health, his death, and the idea of standing on her own two feet for the first time in her life, as well as opening a new business, is enough to convince Caroline she should keep Jackson at arm’s length.

Jackson and Caroline are both embarking on new beginnings in their lives, but will that include a second chance at love, as well?

Forgiveness, healing, hope, fresh starts, second chances and mature romances are Emily March’s forte. I have been reading her books for a while now and normally her stories are warm and inspirational with a mild magical quality to them.

I always enjoy popping into the Eternity Springs saga to see people who are struggling with huge burdens, find peace and hope… and of course a bit of romance too.

However, on occasion a favored author will miss the mark. Unfortunately, the romantic tension, the touching emotional elements, the heartwarming inspirational moments were absent. I love Emily March and am loath to write a critical review for one of her books, but this book was bland and boring for me. I struggled to finish it and sadly, the ending was a bit odd, and seriously flat.
I’m sure this is just a one off and every author who has a healthy backlist has one. So, hopefully EM will release a Christmas book this year and I will be the first in line to read it!

Jackson by Emily March

First in a new series, a spinoff from the Eternity Springs series. While it can be read as a standalone, there are many characters from the prior books that would make them more dimensional if some of the prior books were read.

Family centric, contemporary small town romance. Clean. Beautifully written with emotional high and low points.
I admire Jackson for his actions in the face of tragedy but mostly for his love of his daughter. He knows when to speak up and actually follows through in sharing his thoughts and feelings.

A wonderful romance and start of a new series. Hints are dropped in the epilogue on whose romance may be next in the town of Redemption, Texas. I’m looking forward to further books.

Excerpt:
“Jackson had made a serious mistake when he’d accepted Tucker’s suggestion shortly after their arrival at Caroline’s house to turn the phrase “Bless Your Heart” into a private drinking game. At the rate things were going, they’d both be blotto before halftime of the Cowboy game. Shoot, they’d even had to toss back a gulp because Celeste of all people threw down a BYH. Celeste!
Both men held up their glasses in silent toast, threw back a drink, then returned to their task. McBride men traditionally handled KP duty following holiday dinners and today was no exception.”
Excerpt from Jackson by Emily March.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I also purchased a copy to share.

I'm thinking this is a case of "it's me, not the book". I'm a first time Emily March reader and I've always wanted to give her a shot. Unfortunately, this book and the writing style in general just didn't work for me.

This reads much more like a women's fiction book than a romance and I wish I would've known that going in. Lots of talk about relatives, neighbors, their various past plights, lots of higher power, mysterious ways kind of talk. You get my drift. I kept hoping for an actual romance between Jackson and Caroline but at my stopping point, that didn't appear to be in the cards. My later skimming didn't pick up any romantic goodness, either. A clean read isn't my problem here, but a lack of any real romantic relationship is.

Though Jackson was not my jam, I'm guessing fans of Emily March will enjoy it.

I struggled for a long time to finish this story, and finally I just called it quits. it's just not for me.

This was my first Emily March, and I don't know if she is the author for me. Maybe if you perfect women's fiction over romance, the story might appeal more.

Jackson was... confusing. It's billed both as the start of a new series and the 16th in another series, and I felt like it would have helped me to read the previous 15 books. I felt like a lot of characters were thrown in, and it was confusing to me to keep everyone straight. There were also time skips and changing POVs, and I never felt fully settled or invested in the story.

The romance part of the story was a pretty sticky situation, and it didn't quite sit well with me. Also, the story felt very Christian romance, and I'm not sure if that was it's intention, but I definitely don't read that genre and was turned off by the religious vibe.

I think the story just wasn't my jam.

Favorite Quotes:

While she was girly enough to appreciate being called “ pretty,” she didn’t like “little lady” under any circumstance. Consequently, she had starch in her spine and scissors on her tongue as she lifted her face.

Boone was a flirt, but he was an honest flirt. And being a lawyer and a man with baggage, he hardly kissed a woman without getting a permission slip beforehand, signed in triplicate and notarized, prior to lips touching lips.

She was terrible. Stiff and awkward. She froze up the same way she did like when she needed to do math in public. She got the choreography of the dance step down, but it wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t dance. It was more Frankenstein stumbling out of the castle.

She’s a piece of work, Caroline. I know she’s been through a trauma, but she’s a Southern girl. Where’s her grit? Where’s the steel in her magnolia?

My Review:

Jackson was an easy, sweet, and pleasant read cast with endearing and interesting characters, and was an excellent introduction to bridge an established series and begin a new one. As with the previous books of hers I’ve read, Ms. March’s writing was lushly detailed with periodic hits of wry humor and amusing observations. I was stunned to noticed she currently has thirty-nine books listed on Goodreads, thirty-nine! Of which I’ve only read three, I need to rectify the error of my ways and get to crackin’.

Pretty good. Love/hate....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I got to check out a upcoming release for review and even though it is part of a series I had little difficulty following the story.
I have to say I was expecting a more from this book. Maybe from the cover I was expecting a little cowboy romance. After all Jackson was a hot number.
However, much of the book mainly revolved around Caroline and most of it was conversation. We learned about half of the people in the town; friends and relatives, and honestly I wanted so much more. This read more as a women’s fiction than a romance.
Don’t get me wrong, there was large areas having to do with Jackson and his ex and daughter, but I wanted more of the love connection. I didn’t want to read all the conversations about opening a B&B and squabbling about a name. I did get bored in quite a few sections of the story.
I enjoyed the overall theme but I really think the author missed the mark on the close connection between the main characters. I got distracted and lost in all of the extraneous conversations and we did not get the full affect of what a perfect matchup really feels like in a fabulous love story.
This is definitely what I would call a clean romance but go in knowing it may be read as a woman’s fiction with an additional side of romance.
3 Accepting New Chapters, Fresh Starts Stars
* * * Spoilers For Backstories
It is hard to start a series. There are so many things that need to be put forward. The backstories of the characters, the whys as to the location, and all of the additional colorful secondary characters. Lots to cover as well as the main love story. Jackson (The McBrides of Texas #1; Eternity Springs #16) by Emily March had that task and it did touch all of the necessary bases.
Caroline Carruthers life has not proceeded as she thought it would.
Jackson McBride needed a fresh start...
These two broken people deeply in the process of reworking their lives cross paths again.
When they start to see each other in town, both are careful with each other. Both are interested, both feel the sparks and are surprised they are happening. Caroline had been dead inside slowly feeling like a woman again. Jackson misses his daughter, and the only thing that is giving him hope is the musical phrases that are floating around his mind when Caroline comes near.
This is a story with a lot of details, secondary characters, and charm. We are given the romance of Jackson and Caroline, sweet and understandable... along with many seeds planted for the upcoming books for the series. Emily March fans will have a new series to enjoy.
Redemption or Ruin….
This is the start of a spin off series from Eternity Springs, which I haven’t read yet, but Caroline and Jackson’s story works well as a standalone. It was easy to get lost in their story as both were reinventing themselves with a new direction to their lives.
The story moved in days and then months as big and little changes affected their lives. The characters were very likable, the circumstances allowing them to support each other through the storms. Loss, grief, pain. All the emotions battled to overcome their fresh starts.
This was a gentle, winding read with romance sometimes taking a back seat to the challenges both were facing. Quirky characters rounded the story off well and brought humour and even more heart with them. Good start to the series. ~Diane, 4 stars
Thank you to St. Martins and NetGalley for an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.
Jackson is a lovely stand alone romance, and it's the first in an Eternity Springs spin-off trilogy. Being both character driven and atmospheric, this well written thoughtful story is overflowing with heart and characters you will actually care about in a place you will never want to leave. Honestly, it's been a while since I've read a book that made me want to pack and move to the location, but Jackson did just that. I know it's obvious word play, but the Enchanted Canyon between Redemption and Ruin couldn't be more aptly named. Jackson and Caroline, the main characters who migrate to this place for different reasons, might find their way to redemption, or their lives might fall into ruin. It's a choice both must make individually after tragic loss and unimaginable heartbreak. Their story is broken into two parts. Jackson and Caroline initially meet when both are in town for business like reasons. Tragedy strikes and they are drawn apart until a year or so later. Now, in the second part, we see the slow and steady building of a solid friendship that might progress to deeper levels. Jackson is working on building something spectacular with his family. Caroline opens her own business and begins her life anew. Both are coping with loss and grief and are essentially living new beginnings. Drawn to each other but cautious, will the spark between them turn into a blaze? Will Jackson and Caroline find the happiness and contentment they deserve? I loved these characters in a real way because it's like I knew them. They are flawed, struggling wonderful human beings. Written to perfection, you will root for Jackson and Caroline, and you will experience heartache with them. There are also minor characters who are very charming, fun and delightful to read. I loved every aspect of Jackson. I connected in a soul stirring way with this story. Do yourself a favor, and read this book. I personally can't wait to see what Emily March offers next in this new series.
This being the first book by Emily March that I have read was sort of interesting, because, while each of the characters were new to me it felt as if I was reunited with old familiar friends. I swear it was the strangest feeling that I actually had to go back and check to be sure that this was in fact the first book of hers I had read. This story takes place in Colorado as well as Texas and in both places we have parts of the McBride Family, Boone, Jackson, and Tucker are the three cousins this trilogy will focus on but you will see the old familiar faces from Eternity Springs that you have read about before, if you aren't new to the series that is. For me while everyone was new they felt as if I had already known them. Some good and some bad ;) like every family there are angels and maybe one or two fallen angels.
Jackson has gone through a bitter divorce and it just keeps getting worse for this poor guy so when his cousin calls and asks him to meet him in Texas it couldn't have come at a better time. There is a road that can lead you to Redemption or to Ruin, it just depends on which way you choose to travel. Well, Jackson finds himself in Redemption Texas meeting his two cousins when he learns about their road to Ruin. I know, I know, I am being evasive but that's because I wouldn't want to spoil anything for you.
Caroline is going through a lot at the moment, her husband is in a long term memory care facility due to his Alzheimer's when she is asked to go to Redemption to write about. Caroline although a bit hesitant goes and the trip definitely changes her life.
This is a CLEAN romance, which I seem to be reading less and less of these days, especially when they can fall under the Women's Fiction umbrella which this one definitely can. I am glad I gave the book and the author a chance. I did enjoy the writing although I must admit it did take me longer to read this than it normally takes me and I can't pinpoint why that was. I do plan on reading Boone and Tucker's stories when they are available, both men are interesting and so are the women I believe they are going to be paired up with.
I would definitely recommend this book if you enjoy Women's Fiction, or Clean Romances.
Happy Reading!!!
Jackson is a book of second chances and starting over.
Caroline moves to Redemption to make a new start on life. Her husband had serious mental issues and had to be put in full time care where he completely forgets who Caroline is and falls in love with another woman in the facility. Her dream is to open a book store and she thinks Redemption is the place to do it.
Jackson is one of three cousins who inherit a beautiful canyon. He’s starting over and isn’t interested in finding love but is attracted to Caroline.
A friendship blooms between Jackson and Caroline as well as equally devastating heartbreaking moments.
Emily March masterfully blends heartache and healing while bringing two wounded souls together in love.
I received this ARC copy of Jackson from St. Martin's Press. This is my honest and voluntary review. Jackson is set for publication June 25, 2019.
This book was just not my cuppa.
I had such a hard time relating to the protagonists in this story.
Maybe it's me and my personality, but there's no way in hell I'd be the least bit comfortable or accepting of the circumstances that happened at the end of the book.
By the 80% mark of the story, I forced myself to finish the story because I'd already invested so much time with it.
I'm sad to say that this is the first book I've read by Emily March, and unfortunately, it will be my last.
Reading this book, I was transported to Redemption, a small town in Texas. The scenes are so vivid that I could visualise the whole thing and the history attached to it.
Jackson is one of the three McBride cousins. They have just inherited a gem of a property in a magical canyon in Redemption. They get together to explore the prospects of this property and what they come up with is astounding.
Caroline is a widow who decides to write a new chapter in Redemption. A place where she had a short visit before she was faced with a heartbreaking tragedy. However, she puts her big girl's panties on and decides that she has to move forward.
Jackson and Caroline have a brief meeting before she receives the most upsetting news. He treats her well and offers a helping hand even if they hardly know each other. When Caroline returns to Redemption to settle, she bumps into Jackson and they soon become friends. Even though neither of them is looking for love, there is an obvious attraction between them. Will Jackson's bitterness of his past outweigh their attraction or can they heal each other and restore their faith in love?
Even though Jackson is struggling with what's been dished out to him, he is very thoughtful and a perfect gentleman towards Caroline. There is a lapse where tragedy strikes, concerning his ex and his beloved daughter, but when he realises that he might have crossed a boundary, he sticks to his word and listens to his heart. Caroline is extremely patient and understanding even when doubts start to interfere with her common sense. There is a point when I thought that all was lost, but everything is turned around nicely to give a desirable and wonderful outcome. Despite all the heartaches, there are some light and fun moments. I loved this story even through the times when my heart was breaking. It's breathtaking!
I was kindly issued with an eARC from Netgalley and the views expressed are my personal opinion.
Jackson is a cute and sweet small town second chance romance. While technically this book is the first in The McBrides of Texas Series, It is the 16th book in the Eternity Springs Series. So, it is a spin-off that can be read as a stand-alone novel. The author did a good job trying to make it so that you didn’t feel like you were missing anything, but there were a few moments where I felt like I was missing something from the previous series.
Jackson is my first book by this author and it follows the story of Jackson and Caroline. Since losing her husband, Caroline has wanted nothing more than to grieve and have a fresh start. Moving to Redemption, seems like the perfect place to call home and get that fresh start she was looking for. She wasn’t looking for love, but when Jackson enters her life, she doesn’t stand a chance….Ever since his divorce and bitter custody battle, Jackson has been blocked. He’s lost his love for music and belief in true love. A fresh start in Redemption, might just be what the doctor ordered. And when Jackson lays his eyes on Caroline, his whole world gets kicked off its axis. Will Redemption heal these poor lost souls??? There’s only one way to find out….
Overall, I thought this book was an ok read. It’s one of those books that’s going to be great for some and a miss for others. Jackson is built as a romance, and while it does have some romantic elements, this story is more about family, the small town Caroline & Jackson have come to call home, and finding oneself again.
I enjoyed getting to know Caroline and Jackson. I thought their romance was sweet and their story was interesting. However, I felt like something was off with them. They had some really good moments, but at times, I struggled to connect with them. I think they worked well as friends, but as far as romance goes, I guess I just needed more. Maybe see their relationship develop more and maybe add just a touch of steam. I know this is supposed to be a clean romance and that’s fine, but I could have used some really good, heart-clenching kisses.
For me Jackson was a quick and easy read. I thought it was written well and had a nice flow to it. However, there were moments where we were introduced to a lot of characters and it just kind of felt like there was too much going on. I found those moments to be distracting and it made me want to just skim over it. As I previously states, I also had some issues with the overall romance between Jackson and Caroline, but loved the moments with his daughter. It was clear that he was devoted to her and would do anything for her.
Jackson isn’t one of my typical reading styles. It was a lot cleaner than I was used to and this is coming from someone who reads YA books. While I did have some issues with this story, it wasn’t all bad. There were a lot of good moments, I just was left wanting more. All that being said, I’m still glad I picked up this book and gave it a chance.
I wanted to love this book. I enjoyed it but it didn't have my heart pumping.
Caroline is currently married at the beginning of the story. I won't go into specifics on that. I thought she was a lovely character and deserved to be happy. Unfortunately, life happens and well...things become complicated... and very sad.
Jackson has his own demons in the way of cruel ex-wife. She takes something from him he cannot bare to lose. And so because of that, Jackson has sworn off women. When he and his two cousins inherit land, they decide to turn it into a high-end B&B. I enjoyed the way the author described the old buildings on the property. I could really see everything she was trying to write about. This particular aspects of the book were one of my favorites.
Long story short, Caroline and Jackson meet when she comes to town to write a travel piece about the land Jackson now owns. They definitely have a connection, but what that connection was, neither recognized. Many months later, Caroline moves to town and opens a book store. She and Jackson meet again and become good friends. I want to say that their relationship was a slow burn but that just wasn't the case for me. The pace of the book as well as the development of Jackson and Caroline's relationship was slow. Very. I admit I was able to put this book down too many times.
I really don't want to spoil anything for you in the way of details. I do want you to know that I didn't hate this book. As I said earlier in my review, I enjoyed it, as an overall read. I think what bothered me the most was that I couldn't feel a connection between the H/h. As friends, I thought they were believable and genuine. But when the line was crossed to an intimate relationship, I just wasn't feeling it.
There is definitely a happy ending. So be assured about that. The epilogue was another favorite part of the book for me.
This was my first read by this author. Would I like to read more from her? I would definitely like to do that. Just because I wasn't in love with this one book doesn't mean I wouldn't love another. I am a very openminded reader. I enjoy all tropes of romance and don't make set-in-stone final opinions on just one, or even two books. So yes, I'll absolutely give this author another chance to woo me, lol.
This is my honest and unbiased opinion. Thank you for taking the time to read it. :)
This is a new series by Emily March but there are ties to her Eternity Springs series with character crossover.  It is set in Texas, so you know it is going to be good...or at least I do!
I had a hard time putting this book down, so enjoyable and it kept me engaged from the first page to the end.  I loved Caroline and couldn't imagine what she went through when her husband was diagnosed with early onset Alzeheimers.  She had a tough time being his caregiver but also dealing with his sister who found fault with everything Caroline did or didn't do at the end.  Jackson was also going through a rough patch related to a custody battle, but meeting Caroline woke something up inside that had been missing for some time, his music.
I laughed and was misty during various parts of this book.  I love how even though life had been tough for Caroline and Jackson, they didn't let it stand in their way.  It wasn't always easy but they made it work.  There is a little tension during various parts near the end but that just adds to the story!
I love the towns of Redemption and Ruin and some of the clever puns made regarding the names.  Angelica is interesting and I can't wait to see how her story evolves in the next two books.  She may be related to Celeste Blessing, but they are as different as night and day!
We give this book 5 paws of and if you are a fan of Emily March you won't be disappointed with this new series.
#16 in the Eternity Springs series, #1 in The McBrides of Texas series
A very nice continuation, of sorts, of the Eternity Springs series, with a few of the same characters. But this book is set in Enchanted Valley, Texas, which tells you that this is also a place for wounded souls to go for healing. Jackson McBride visits Redemption, TX, with his cousins (one of which is Boone from Eternity Springs) when they unexpectedly inherit a ranch. Since Jackson is coming off a acrimonious divorce from a Nashville singing star, he's ready for a change and jumps into the plan of opening an old dance hall into a music venue. He meets Caroline Carruthers, who is also in need of healing from the recent death of her husband and who has decided to open a bookstore in town. They become close, but I'll admit that the romance took a very long time developing. It must have been 2/3 of the way through before they made any headway, but then things got interesting when their romance was stalled by a major tragedy. Then the story moved quickly through the HEA at the end. My biggest annoyance was that Celeste Blessing had a large role in this story, but this time her sickening sweetness has been replaced by snippiness as she and her cousin Angelica are constantly sniping at each other as they manage a B&B in the former cathouse on the cousins' property. It was odd to hear her be so ornery, but I'll admit that it was a refreshing change. The local characters added some color to the story, and I liked March's usual style of creating a warm and inviting small town atmosphere. I look forward to Tucker's story next. Thanks to Amy Landon for another fine narration.
"Redemption"--an essential concept meaning recover, regain, reclaim. "Redemption, Texas"--a small town destination for a man and woman each seeking a new beginning. In "Jackson", by appealing storyteller Emily March, Jackson McBride and Caroline Carruthers have a brief first meeting in Redemption when he is there to check out a property that he and his two cousins have inherited, and she is there to fulfill a promise to an acquaintance. Later, they will both return to the little town to overcome personal heartache and seek solace in starting life anew. Jackson's songwriting career in Nashville is on the wane, and Caroline, a writer, wants to open her own bookstore. His marriage is over, and he is separated from his beloved daughter, Haley. After a difficult illness, Caroline's husband has passed away, she is struggling with the loss. A friendship--and something more--grows between the two of them, and glimmers of hope shine here and there. Is it possible that this unexpected awareness--something they weren't seeking--is exactly what they most need? "Jackson" is the first book in a new trilogy which is a spin-off from Emily March's hugely popular "Eternity Springs Series".
I've been a fan of Emily March's Eternity Springs series since book one. The characteristics that have sent those books straight to my keeper shelf - complex, endearing characters, heart-tugging story lines, redemption, healing, starting over, and happy-ever-afters - are all on display in this first book of March's new spin-off series, along with a fair amount of humor. Moving from Colorado to the Texas Hill Country, this new series brings readers the stories of three McBride cousins: Jackson, Tucker, and Boone.
March tells this first book in two parts with part one recounting Jackson and Caroline's first meeting as well as the events that lead each of them to move to Redemption. My heart ached for Jackson from the get-go. He's reeling from a heartbreaking child custody decision when we first meet him, is still bitter about his divorce, and has lost the desire to create the music he used to write. For some reason, Caroline, a stranger he bumps into, has lyrics floating through his mind again. Caroline, in Redemption to write a travel article, enjoys talking to Jackson and touring the property he and his cousins plan to turn into an inn, restaurant, and dance hall. They "click" but not in an overtly sexual way. Caroline is married and very much in love with her husband, even though he has Alzheimer's and no longer knows her and Jackson is an honorable man who would never make a play for a married woman, even if he hadn't already sworn off women since his divorce.
The relationship between Caroline and Jackson begins in Part Two which takes place a year after their first meeting and many months after the death of Caroline's husband. I appreciate the time March gives Caroline before bringing her back to Redemption and into Jackson's sphere. As someone who has walked her path, I found her emotions to be very realistic as she begins the next chapter of her life. I also like that her late husband isn't cast aside as if he never existed. Their years together are very much a part of her as the years Jackson was married and his child are an integral part of him. They all weave together to create the individuals Caroline and Jackson now are and the relationship they create together. March uses care and sensitivity as she slowly guides them from acquaintances, to friends, to lovers, to two people embarking upon a life together. I really liked these two, both individually and as a couple, and quickly became invested in their happiness.
As a fan of Eternity Springs, I was delighted with the appearances of cross-over characters in this novel. It's especially fun to watch unflappable Celeste get her feathers ruffled while dealing with her more free-spirited cousin, Angelica. If you haven't read any of the Eternity Springs books, you might find yourself with a little character confusion when many of the Colorado residents converge on Redemption, Texas for the inn's soft opening but, aside from that chapter, this novel stands very well on its own with the vast majority of the characters new to March's fictional world. I enjoyed meeting all of them in JACKSON (even the ones who caused waves) and am already looking forward to the next chapter in Emily March's McBrides of Texas series.
Jackson is the first book in the Eternity Springs: The McBrides of Texas Trilogy by Emily March which is a spin-off series. The original series is called Eternity Springs and I think you should those books first instead of this one. I got the feeling that I was missing things and that I had begun a series in the middle. The biggest issue I had with the book was the time jumps. Not only there were too many, but the reader was not getting a warning and suddenly boom we are 3 months later after the events of the previous paragraph or chapter. The thing is that the flow was continuous so it was like no time had passed, but suddenly they mention that a week or a month had passed. It was annoying and it made my reading harder. I am not sure if that will be fixed in the published version or not and I am hoping it will.
I also hated that Jackson got to spend a week with his daughter and we only got a short description of what they did in 3 lines. I would have loved to see him spend time with his daughter without the drama and the sadness that came later.
I was worried that the heroine would be still fixed on her husband after he moved on, but things are not what they seem and in the end, the whole situation was sad. The story is separated into two parts and in the second part both characters are single and it takes place one year after the end of part one.
Overall, the book did not left me with a good impression, but I am willing to give another chance to the author since I have liked one of her other books. I think another round of editing would fix many things.
5+ Stars! Great start to a new series- The McBrides of Texas.
Those of you that loved the Eternity Springs series will be thrilled with this spinoff in Redemption, Texas with the famous McBrides. While Boone makes such an impression in the Eternity Springs series, I have a feeling that Emily March is leaving the best for last with him as she gives us Boone's cousin, Jackson. Just as the many find healing in Eternity Springs, redemption is found in Texas.
You will fall in love with Jackson from the get go. He is in a terrible position from the start that you sympathize and love him immediately. Headed to Redemption, Jackson hopes to find a way to heal and find the melody of his soul.
Caroline Carruthers is in a sad and lonely spot, but finds her way to Redemption for a short trip to help out a finagling Celeste. While she is only their briefly, the town makes a great impression so when she needs to move away to heal, Redemption seems the perfect spot.
While neither Jackson not Caroline are looking for love, they strike up a sweet and deep friendship. The chemistry is undeniable- so they don't deny it! LOL! While the road to redemption is anything but smooth sailing, Caroline and Jackson rely on one another to handle the ups and downs together to find a second chance at true love.
Having thoroughly enjoyed the Eternity Springs series, I was happy to see Emily March starting a spin-off series. This story is set in Redemption, Texas and has many connections to the characters in Eternity Springs that we've all come to love, including Celeste Blessing. Although, Celeste has some stiff competition with her cousin Angelica who I think will feature prominently in Redemption and in future books.
Once again, Emily March has brought two wounded characters together that need to rebuild their own lives and hopefully move on to the next phase of their life together. Caroline has recently lost her husband and is trying to start over, while Jackson is trying to move past a bitter divorce and difficult custody arrangement. Neither is looking for love but they are both looking for healing.
This was a great start to a new series that promises to be as heartwarming and enjoyable as Eternity Springs.
I loved the Eternity Springs series and am thrilled that this spin off brings back characters from Eternity Springs. This new series is set in in Redemption, Texas but has the same small home town feeling as her other series. I really like the characters and the emotion in the story. I thought the ending was perfect for this book
This is quite conflicting. I had several expectations from this book when I started reading it and, while these expectations were not met, I cannot say that I disliked it.
Let me start with the title. Jackson's story is definitely more elaborated than Caroline's. Both characters have a backstory and they came to Redemption to start over. But if for Caroline the past life concludes quite quick, for Jackson we need to wait until the end. So it is somehow fitting.
This is a clean Romance book, focused on starting over, building a good life and making friends. We have a hint of a blessing here and there, which just makes the atmosphere even more warm. If you are expecting lots of skin and clothes scattered around, this is not it. Which is fine by me, as long as we feel what our characters feel.
The backstories are quite strong. Both characters have struggled a lot in life. She has had to deal with a husband who was forgetting her a little more every day and he has to deal with the absence of her daughter. Hearts mend in Redemption and the intervention of two awesome innkeepers has something to do with it.
So we have quite a good start here. However I had issues with the slow pace of the story. In some chapters, I got lost in the details and I received little if the chemistry I was expecting. For how much they were saying they wanted to stay away from love, both started an exclusive relationship quite quick, but I did not feel that emotion. I didn't feel the Sparks and their connection. I would have expected more butterflies and more passion when these two meet.
All in all, I do have some plus and minuses her, but I cannot deny the warmth of Redemption. I do believe the other couples will be even more interesting and I expect a little more intensity. For now, I am keeping my 3 stars rating and I am looking forward for book 2 of this spinoff.
4.5 stars raised to 5 stars. This both book 16 in the Eternity Springs series and the first book in The McBride's of Texas series. Even if you have never read a book in the Eternity Springs series, you can still read this its more a 1st book in a new series than one of a continuing series. Plus the Eternity Springs series books can all pretty much be stand alone books. The book may have some of the characters appear from the past books, but not in a way that makes you unsure of what is going on. I originally started reading book 7 and loved the book, so much I have read all the books in the series, except for #5 and #6, which I still plan to read.
I loved this book and am so excited to continue with another off shoot of the original series. It is pretty much a sweet romance with little sexual content, which is refreshing. There was only one area of the book that I wasn't crazy about or maybe a bit bored (and thus the deduction of half a star), but since I was not able to write my review immediately, but instead a couple days later; at this point, I can not quite remember specifics of what it was, so I probably could give it a full 5 stars. I look forward to reading the next book in the series and wonder which of the other 2 cousins will be the main feature in this book. I am guessing Boone, but it could be Tucker. I'll just have to wait until later this year or next year to find out.
I can't believe how hard this review was for me to write. I have so many thoughts running around in my head that I want to get out but I'm afraid I'm not going to do them justices. I both love and hate reviews like that. I'm going to do my best to make it a good one.
If you don't read Emily March than you should know that yes Jackson is a standalone but it's roots start in her Eternity Springs series. In fact, many characters are mentioned or in it. But other than that it was a good book.
I think she writes wonderfully. I do have to admit that her writing is a little bit more woman's fiction than straight contemporary romance to me. I will say that I really enjoyed the characters and want to read more about them.
I felt for Caroline and what has happened in her life. What she went through will always be with her. Her past adds a ton of emotions into the story. I love that she wants to open a bookstore in a new town, away from the life she had. Sometimes we have to start over.
I also really liked Jackson. He along with his cousins inherit land from an aunt. It's just what he needs during this trying time. He's away from his daughter and missing her terribly. I feel for him. He got a raw deal.
I think you'll notice how much this new trilogy is tied to her Eternity Springs series. After reading this I know it would most likely have been better if I had read her other series first.
I loved this spin-off from the Eternity Springs Series, it was the perfect segue and kept me wanting more. If you’ve read the Eternity Springs books, you know that Celeste is like an earth-bound-fairy-godmother. She wove her magic and put two hurting souls together so they could lean on each other in writing the next chapters of their lives. Jackson and Caroline were likeable from the start, making my heart smile as they moved from strangers, to friends, to lovers. Their friends and family brought banter to a fun level, making me want to move into town and shove my way in. No danger, no hot and heavy sex….just a sweet love story that still has me smiling.
