The Roommate

Rate this book
My number ONE complaint: He walks around butt naked.
My number TWO complaint: He also saw me butt naked.
My number THREE complaint: He is my new STEPBROTHER!

And now, we are stuck together for the next two weeks in a cabin sharing the same living space.
It would be the vacation of a lifetime, my mom said. It will help me get to know my new stepbrother, she said.
Well, I admit I did get to know right off the bat how well-endowed he was in all the right places. Wait, no ... that's not it.
What I found out after our first meeting was how much of a gorgeous jerk he was.
He called my mom a gold-digger ... so I "accidentally" dropped scalding hot coffee on his willy.

This is a short steamy romance novella. No cheating. No cliff-hanger. And the kind of ending you will just love. HEA all the way!!

Definitely a great read, that kept my interest throughout. I enjoyed the characters and found them authentic, likable and multidimensional. Loved Marcus sexy description lol. It was great seeing Marcus and Leannn's parents finally get what they deserved, and how they're kids loved and support them.
It was even better what happens between Marcus and Leanne, quite sexy and very passionate. I'm saying no more, but this is definitely worth the read. It's a pretty quick read, something you can do on the train on your way to work or something. Just try not to let your breathing change lol.
I would have given 5 stars, but the title made me think, everything in the book would happen while they lived together, as roommates. Thats not how thing's happen. Very good book.

It's been a hot minute since I've read a stepbrother books. Unfortunately, this wasn't a great one.

I realize this was essentially a novella, and I really need to learn to stay away from novellas. I just have a hard time with the ones that don't have the depth of a regular book. Some authors that are great at regular books aren't great at novellas.

I didn't find Marcus or Leanne particularly likable. I liked their parents, and it sucked that they almost didn't get married because Marcus and Leanne couldn't keep their hate-chemistry in check. I think my biggest problem with this book wasn't that it was quick, it wasn't that they didn't spend a lot of time together...it was that I didn't feel a connection between them. They spend more time fighting and bickering than anything else (and not in a good way).

"It was everything that they should avoid. It was wrong. It was... it was complete and utter heaven."

Great story!
Leanne and Markus went from blazing hate fire to hot and heavy in half a second and it was amazing! It was way too short, I want more!!
The insta hate was the fuel their bodies needed. They hated each other from the beginning but after interactions, they started to acknowledge that all that hate was they fighting their feelings and desire.

Markus childhood was what made him an idiot, snob non-believer of love, marriage, and relationships but, it only took a few days with happy and fierce Leanne for him to change all his life perspectives and make him question everything he thought he knew about love. It made him a believer! And it was beautiful! <3

"He kissed her like there was no coming up for air, like he'd die if he didn't."

Markus and Leanne meet at their parents engagement party and end up having to spend some time on vacation together getting to know their soon to be step siblings. When things quickly turn from hate to something steamier, will they mess up their parents relationship?

Okay, so yes, this was a very short novella, but seriously? They went from HATE to STEAMY in a 5 minute conversation and then turned into 'you make me a better person, yada yada yada'. I don't think so. There wasn't enough story for me to buy it. Sorry.

Book number 6!!! In our Smutathon bingo!!! We are crossing off Vacation Romance & can do forbidden Romance since they are step-siblings.

Sigh... this was sorts meh to me..alot of push and pull between the MCs, also felt like they were more apart/fighting then a couple didn't really feel a connection.. they never really were a offical couple until the epilogue which kinda sucks.. they just annoyed one another.. and I'm sad i honestly thought the vacation getaway would be just them two.. but leanne mom went and Markus dad.. so family trip :/ before the parent's get married.. also wiredish for 25 year olds to be childish..

I was also disappointed in Markus not even a alpha male.. 😕.

No ow/om, No cheating, slight drama, celebite (idk how long) no virgins

Recommend- eh maybe not

Leeann and Markus meet at their parents’ engagement party and the sparks fly after a disparaging comment and they quickly become enemies. Even though they have issues with each other and seem to be immature at times; despite their age, they are drawn to one another. This is a cute, fast read that shows that love comes when you least expect it.

Lindsey Hart has a winner with this book. A stepbrother romance. Imagine two weeks in a cabin with your gorgeous new stepbrother. Chemistry that's explosive and some steamy scenes. Great characters and a story that's guaranteed to set you Kindle on fire. No spoiler here, but there is an HEA and no cliddhanger. I read an arc and voluntarily chose to write a review.

Well written story with nice story line and plot. Well described characters who develops nicely through the story.
It was sometimes confusing because of the characters did not get out of their heads/shells and communicate. They were a lot of the story playing mad at each other but they were just the opposite.
Nice and short quick read. Enjoyable and engaging.

Leanne Peters was not looking forward to Carl’s son, Markus, coming home for the engagement party of Carl and her mom. He sounded like a spoiled brat, going abroad for college and not coming back to see his family for 3 years! Hopefully his flight would be delayed and he wouldn’t make it to the party. For so long, it had only been Leanne and her mom, Sarah, living alone together. She was going to miss that.

After a 12-hour flight and hour car ride from the airport, Markus Whitford finally arrived at the party. A petite blond woman who looked to be in her 30’s ran up to him for a big hug, which was difficult with his 6’4” frame. Then she grabbed his hands while she gushed about being happy to meet him. He hoped she didn’t see how uncomfortable he was. He was relieved when he spotted his uncle and two cousins!

Outside, Markus told his cousins what a waste of time marriage was. He figured Sarah was just a gold-digger, and her daughter was lazy because she still lived at home. Mike and Sam told him he was cynical and being unfair to judge, but he stuck to his nasty opinion. Unfortunately for him, Leanne was serving coffee and heard his comment. The next thing he knew, he was bumped hard, turned toward her and felt scalding heat – spreading right below his belt line. He hopped all around, feeling like burning coals had been dumped in his lap. He was arrogant and selfish and Leanne felt no remorse. But she laid on the “fake sugar” apologies so he couldn’t mistake it for being real. Then with a challenge in her eyes, she introduced herself to him – his new sister! And she had clearly made him look like a jerk.

A few days later, Carl told Markus about his plans for them to go to a cabin in the woods and all spend time together. Markus was incensed, having figured out the coffee incident was on purpose. But his dad pleaded with him, and Markus finally figured he might even be able to convince his dad that those two women were toxic for him. Leanne hadn’t like the idea either, but she at least pretended to be happy for her mom’s sake. The battle lines were drawn and both Markus and Leanne were ready for a miserable time. What they ended up with was a rip-roaring, hilariously funny encounter that you have to read to believe!

Don’t miss this fun battle of the sexes. Markus definitely needs a major attitude adjustment, and he may just have found his match in strong, independent Leanne! Will they survive until their parents’ wedding?

Leanne and Markus meet at her mom Sarah and his dad Carl’s engagement party. As Leanne serves the guests she runs into Markus who just happens to be saying some not so pleasant things about the woman that his dad’s going to marry.
Unlike Leanne and Sarah, Markus and Carl are somewhat estranged owing in most part to his mom whom he lived with after the divorce. I got the feeling that this set into motion a whole series of events that shaped Markus’ life including a fear of sharing a part of himself with anyone. He practically cringes when Sarah hugs and pats his hands and I didn’t think it was because she was a stranger.
Leanne appears to be well rounded and with a good head on her shoulders. I didn’t fault her for being a lifetime student who still lives at home with her mom. I was glad the author made her a strong character who could stand her ground and knew what she wanted in life.
Much has been said and written about parents making sacrifices for their children, but this story took a slight twist that truly warmed my heart. Leanne and Markus put their feelings aside so that their parents could have a go at a life that had eluded them for so long. I’m not exactly sure when Markus and Leanne’s constant bickering turned into love and even though they refused to admit it at first, the physical attraction was always there. Markus’ life may have been far from perfect, but when it came to affairs of the heart meeting Leanne changed all that.
This book was short and sweet. I enjoyed the fact that that we got to read from both lead characters point of view. I may have been apprehensive about the direction in which the author was going to take Leanne and Markus, but she got straight to the point and concluded with them hosting their engagement party in the backyard where they first met, reminiscing about the past and ecstatic about the future that awaited them. Thumbs up and a definite recommend.

Oh my what a start to a story! Leanne and her mum Sarah have been together since she was born. Just the two of them. Then Sarah meets carl and they want to get married. Now Leanne is more than happy for her mum and Carl but he has a son, Markus, and when he turns up at the engagement party she overhears him calling her lazy and her mum to be a gold digger She sees red and 'accidentally' pours scalding coffee all over his lap! She is so full of apologies that he knows she did it deliberately! The war is on between these two. But all is not as it seems. Why has Carl and Markus not got a very close relationship? Why is Markus so against love and HEA's? When the four of them spend time together in a remote cabin can these two young people form a friendship or maybe more? After all, Leanne certainly enjoyed seeing him walking round in the nude. But what happens when they eventually give in to their lustful feelings for each other and they are caught in the act by their parents???? Lindsey Hart has really given us a delightful story here to enjoy. I confess that I thought that Markus was a major jerk at the beginning and certainly needed taking down a peg or two and to grow up. But by the end I did like him very much. I do wish it had been a longer story as I like to know how the characters get on in their HEA's - but that's just me. I really enjoyed this book. It had a bit of everything. Love, Passion, LOL moments and loads of sizzling hot chemistry!!
Leanne was helping serve drinks at her mum and soon to be step dad Carls engagement party. everything was going well. Even tho Leanne wasn't enjoying being a waitress she would do anything to make her mum and best friend happy. Then Carls son Markus arrives and it all starts to fall apart for Leanne. She over heard him calling her mom Sarah a gold digger, Leanne sees red and ends up tipping a pot of coffee over him. To say they didn't hit it off was a under statement, Markus didn't believe in Happily ever afters, maybe not even love.
Then Sarah and Carl decide to take their son and daughter away for a break on the lake, Leanne and Markus were not happy but they wanted their parents happy so they went.
This story is about two relationships. Sarah and Carl and Leanne and Markus.
Can anything change the views Leanne had about Markus? Could Markus get passed Leanne pouring hot coffee over him?
Was it taboo to have feelings about your soon to be step brother?
Could the parents except a relationship between their children? Will their marriage take place
I couldn't put this book down make sure you make a cuppa you wont want to stop reading till the end and even then you will be gutted their story is over.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Leanne Peters and Markus Whitford. Leanne and her mother have been all they have had since her mother had her when she was 16 years old. Now she is getting married though Leanne is happy for her she just isn't sure what will come next. Markus's parents divorced when he was a kid and now he was coming home to meet his dad's new wife and attend their wedding. However from the get go they both have chips on their shoulders. Markus believes that Sarah (Leanne's Mom) is a gold digger and Leanne believes that he mom is to old to be getting married and isn't sure of Carl's (Markus's dad) intentions. Now they are all stuck in a small log cabin. Can they find a way to all get along or will this just be something to drive a wedge between children and parents?

This is a great story. You will find yourself emotionally connecting with these characters on a level you didn't think you could. It does have its ups and downs I really want to tell you about. However I don't want to ruin the story for any other readers. I will say this book will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Markus and Leanne meet for the first time at their parents engagement party. He is a real jerk, says something she overheard and she promptly pours a hot pot of coffee over his crotch. You go girl! Over the next few weeks, things happen and are said that push them apart then push them together, but it all works out. Markus was a real tool in the beginning and I didn't really like him at first. Luckily he got his head out of his rear and his jaded outlook on love, etc was changed. Although why he was so adamant about love being a farce is still a stretch for me. But it's fiction so you roll with it, right? As usual, this author did a good job on the story, the writing, and fleshing out the characters in a short book. Although there were a few places where Carl turned into Carlos. Other than that, no major editing issues that would make me crazy. Although I'm glad our MCs got their HEA, I was really happy about their parents getting a HEA. Those two people definitely deserved it!
But, I don't get the title. They were never roomies. Definitely misleading, but still a good, quick read.

Leanne is a college student and has to go to her moms engagement party. Her mom had her when she was sixteen so she was in her early thirties. She is marrying Carl who has a son that went to school in Europe and hasn’t seen his father in three years. On the night of the party Leanne hopes his plane is late because he’s not been around but he shows up mad because the plane was late and had car trouble. He enters and Sarah runs up and hugs him and all he sees is a petite blond in her thirty’s and he’s 6’4” and had to bend awkwardly. He sees his cousins and uncle and makes snide remarks about Sarah being a gold digger and Leanne was lazy because she still lived at home. Leanne hears and has hot coffee and “accidentally” spills hot coffee from the waist down!!!!! She then tells him who she is. Their parents want to take two weeks to get closer and have them come to to a cabin in the woods. Then it’s war on between the two as they try to up the other until they accidentally kiss. Now what will happen?

Leanne Peters is pissed when she overhears the handsome Markus say her mother Sarah is a gold digger. So she accidentally on purpose dumps an entire pot of hot coffee all over the front of Markus. Markus Whitford isn't happy when his father Carl and fiancée Sarah decide to take Markus and the pretty Leanne along on their 2 week getaway at a remote cabin so they can get to know each other. Markus can't stop staring when he walks into Leanne's room by accident and seeing her dancing naked. Leanne gets her revenge on Markus when he goes skinny dipping and she throws his clothes in the lake. Then when their parents take Leanne's dog to the vet, Markus kisses Leanne, and she kisses him right back ... until she pulls away and tells him to take a hike. Markus tries to stay away from Leanne but can't stop thinking about her ... and Leanne can't stop thinking about Markus either. What happens when Sarah and Carl catch Leanne and Markus in a compromising position?

Leanne's mother was getting married after years of being a single mom to her. Leanne was happy for her mom and tried to help her when it came to her soon to be step brother. Markus thinks Sarah is a gold digger after his dad's money. When Leanne hears this she dumps hot coffee on his crotch. When both parents tell them of a family trip to a cabin in the woods neither is too excited to see the other. Sparks continue to fly between them when Markus walks in on Leanne naked. They try to fight their attraction because of their parents getting married but one night the temptation was too much. When their parents catch them in the act it causes for major conflict within the family. Will their parents still get married? Can they all be together without judgement?

This is a great story about a taboo relationship. The chemistry between Leanne and Markus is off the charts hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this to any book lover.

*SPOILER*

He is a badly behaved guy who fears deep emotions, while she is a loyal, yet prejudiced woman. Their parents are getting married. At least they act like sibling; fighting and arguing all the time. But when they are stuck together in a small cottage and have to deal with unforeseen events, emotions run high. Emotions and attraction. How is it that the one person society says you can't get involved with is the one you desire above all else?

Step-sibling romance might not be a taboo anymore, but it is certainly still a "no-no" in the eyes of the society. I suppose the forbidden element of it is what makes these stories a tad more intense than the standard romance. However, I like how the author decided to end this story with their wedding, despite their parents also being married. Society can be as snobbish as it wants; whom they choose to love is no one else's business. I couldn't have agreed more!

Markus is returning from overseas to attend his father Carl's engagement party He mouths off how the bride to be Sarah is probable just a gold digger and her daughter Leanne must be lazy seeing she still at home only problem Leanne heard what he said. Seeing she was serving coffee at the time it was all so easy to give him a lap full of hot coffee and it made her feel better after apologising so profusely that it was obviously false she introduced herself Markus is left in no doubt it was done on purpose and the battle lines are drawn. Now Carl is taking them all out to a cabin so they can get to know one another and what happens between these two enemies will have you in stitches as the battle lines narrow as attraction rears it ugly head Will they form a truce will they get a HEA you need to read to see.

It had only been Leanne and her mom, Sarah, forever and now things were changing. Her mom was getting married at 41 and Leanne would have a stepbrother near her own age of 25. And her mom just thought the world of Markus because his father did. Well, Leanne overheard Markus at the engagement party, and gorgeous or not he was an arrogant a-- for thinking her mom was a golddigger! So, oops, she may have spilled a WHOLE pot of hot coffee on him ACCIDENTALLY! REALLY! And so their relationship began... Things got heated, arguments, blowups, kisses, ...kisses??? What? Attraction? How will that go over? Won't they kinda sorta be related? Yes? No? Read this delightful story full of electrical chemistry between 2 people, one of whom does NOT believe in love!!!

This is a very short story about future step-siblings who have a lot of animosity between them. They are adult children who tend to behave very childishly. The female still lives at home with mommy while attending school. Regardless of their I’ll feelings toward one another, they agree to spend a few weeks in a remote cabin with their engaged parents before the nuptials begin. Once the male child/student/28 year old son sees his future step-sister naked, he falls in lust/love with her. Fast forward three years and the couple are now engaged and living together. This book has potential but it was just too short to develop the characters. The book title is very misleading because there are no roommates involved.

Forced together when their parents choose to marry, the two adult children do not get off to a good start.

This is another story where the main conflict revolves around making assumptions and a lack of communications. Both kids are protective of their respective parents, which I get. But they have their shields so tight that they don't listen or observe and instead just react. This is something of a pet peeve for me, which lessened my enjoyment of the story.

Setting that issue aside, I did enjoy the story. The story and the characters are well written, if not always engaging due to their immature behavior. The story develops at a rapid pace and keeps the reader's attention. And it all ends with a nice HEA.

Recommended for an afternoon read.

Well-written, smoothly-paced, fast-moving story with a HOT couple
Leanne Peters single mother of 40 is getting married for the first time! Carl seems nice enough but it has been just Leanne and her mom forever…As she’s contemplating all this at her mom’s engagement party she overhears her soon-to-be stepbrother remark that the future Mrs. Whitford must be a gold-digger. Leanne decides to pay him back for that statement. So funny!!! What neither of them expected was the desire they both felt for each other. Markus doesn’t believe in love so he can’t accept these feelings he has for Leanne. When they are caught in the midst…well…worth reading to see how it ends. Such a good story.
This was a well-written, smoothly-paced, fast-moving story. Short but most enjoyable. Comes highly recommended. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book. Get it, you’ll see why…

ONE FABULOUS READ HITS THE JACKPOT!!!
OMG! One fantastic tale that really lays out all the cards. You get it all humor, laugh out loud, fear, anger and an off the charts, explosive chemistry that is sure to please. All the ups and downs, twists and turns, along with a few glitches here and there make for one enjoyable experience. The characters and their personalities are so realistic and believable it feels like you can just reach out and touch them. The scenes are descriptive and detailed its easy picturing it in your mind's eye as each scenario plays off one another in perfect balance. Lindsey did a remarkable job bringing this read to life flawlessly. Great job Lindsey, thanks for sharing this awesome read with us.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the enemies to lovers story about Leann and Marcus. Leann's mother was going to marry Marcus's father and Marcus came home for the summer for the wedding. Marcus was studying in London and was not home for the past couple of years. Marcus's parents divorced when he was ten and he doesn't believe in marriage and thinks Leann's mother is a gold digger. When their parents suggest two weeks away in a cottage, both Leann and Marcus are dreading it. Leann and Marcus have an attraction to each other, even thought they both don't like the other. I liked this story. It was a good story with a love/ hate relationship. I think Marcus was jaded and i think when he met Leann he questioned everything he thought. another good one from Lindsey.
