Sorry, not sorry. Throughout history, everyone treats the protagonist as if she were trash and she does nothing about it. I can not express all the hatred and disgust that this book made me feel towards human beings.

Ana is standing in the lobby of the Seaborne Country Club, watching all the wealthy people look down on each other and scowl at Ana as if she is the only speck of dirt in the place. The staff at the front desk completely ignored her. The dirty tennis outfit from Walmart and sneakers are not making a great impression. She quietly asks where she would find the dining room, since she is looking for her brother, Trent Bellamy. The woman repeats his name loudly, as if surprised she knows the man, and all heads turn toward her. Even her grade school enemy, Sandra Brighton, spotted her and walked over – reminding her she had to be a member to eat there. When Sandra heard Trent was back, meeting Ana for lunch, and a recent member of the Country Club, she prodded Ana for information on where he was at the moment, just as he walked up behind them. Sandra gushed about her husband owning two of the guitars Trent’s company had made, and told him her husband would love to play golf with him. Ana was furious since they had always treated him as a gutter punk. Now he wore fancy suits and had lots of money and all that disdain went away.

Ana and Trent move to the dining room and her brother tells the host he has a reservation for three. She can hardly breathe as he tells her Dalton Ward, his best friend and business partner, is joining them. Dalton was always late and still hadn’t arrived, so Trent didn’t wait to announce he was moving back to the East Coast. Ana had been on her own and struggling for 10 years while her brother became a success. Now he was opening an East Coast manufacturing headquarters for KillBuzz Guitars. He told her Dalton would stay in town through the summer, then return to California.

Having had the biggest crush on Dalton as a teen, Ana excused herself to the restroom to clean up and at least brush her neglected hair. But as she hurries out, she runs right into a tall handsome man and hears him say, “Ana?” He was the one who had kissed her for the first time when she was a teen – her dreams coming alive as she felt his tongue -- and then he was leaving for the Navy and she didn’t see him again … until now! That crush was still strong enough to give her a melt-down. Did she have any chance that he would now be willing to start a relationship with her? Or was it too late for them now that he was a billionaire and still her brother’s best friend?

This was a good book to read. It touched so many emotions, and the author makes it feel so real, something the reader can relate to. The story line was good and moved at a good pace to keep the reader connected. The characters were fully developed, likable and had a strong presence. Ana’s obvious sacrifice for the happiness and success of her brother makes the reader respect her and want to see her find her own dream. I definitely recommend this book.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the story of Ana, a young woman who lives in a small seaside town and is an artist. Ana paints portraits for a living and is generally looked down on by the rich residents of the town. When Ana's brother Trent returns to town to open a factory making his guitars with his childhood friend Dalton, he has changed. Trent and Dalton are now wealthy businessmen and Trent intends to stay, while Dalton wants to return to the west coast after the factory is running. Ana always followed her brother and his friends around and was a groupie to their band. There was five years age difference but she had a huge crush on Dalton. Dalton was Ana's first kiss and it made her love him even more, even if he thought it was wrong because of their ages. Now Dalton is back in town and when he sees Ana, he has to remind himself she is off limits because she is his best friend's sister. Dalton and Ana are still friends and Dalton finds himself drawn to Ana. They become even closer and when Dalton kisses Ana. he pulls away and tells her it is wrong. Ana loves Dalton and wants to be with him, but he runs hot and cold with her. Dalton wants to be with Ana, but because of her brother, he feels like he can't be with her. Ana is also dealing with the people of the town that are getting harder to deal with and are getting meaner to Ana. When secrets of Ana's past are coming back to haunt her, Dalton is there and she doesn't want him to find out. I liked this book. I enjoyed Ana and Dalton together, but i did find it a little frustrating how Dalton went so hot and cold for so long. I think he knew he loved Ana and he should have accepted it long before he did, he should have been willing to talk to Trent about his feelings for Ana. I really didn't like how the people treated Ana because of her family and her past. It did add to the story and i think Ana was stronger than she thought she was. Good one.

Okay, this book has some serious promise. I know that everyone has their own idea of what good writing is and what they will tolerate. Personally, I will read just about anything and try to get to the story behind the type of writing. That being said, I REALLY wanted to love this book. However, there were major plot gaps that I felt should have been explained deeper before it just slaps you in the face with some serious dark parts.

I felt that the relationships needed to be filled in a bit more, Ana and Rick, Trent and Erin, Trent and Ana and their parents and more. I felt as though there was no solid backstory to build off, you are just given these characters that you know nothing about and barely find out anything about them other than how their current relationships are developing. I suppose there is something to be said about it being a Romance novel and the expectation that gives off to readers.

All that being said, I do recommend this book. I thought that the overall story was really something to run with, I was excited to dive into this book when I read the summary. Dalton being the typical town bad boy who grows up to be a very wealthy business owner and has come back to stake claim to what is his, whether he realizes it right away or not. I loved Ana’s character in this book, she is a strong girl who sticks to what she believes, she makes it work on her own, despite her tragic past and isn’t afraid to stand up when needed. She demonstrated a good example of coming out of a horrible situation stronger. The storyline and the characters are all fantastic, I just wish there was more of a back story with each of them and the relationships they went back to.

Try Again was a masterfully written best friend's little sister romance that you'll thoroughly enjoy. Ana and Dalton are childhood friends with a 5 year age difference. He's her brother's best friend and she's always been in love with him, but she's convinced he only sees her as Trent's bratty kid sister who follows their band everywhere. But one misguided teenage first kiss later and Ana's whole world changes. Unfortunately, that's when Dalton picks up and joins the Navy leaving Ana all alone in a town that virtually labels her as white trash in their upscale ritzy town where she must survive ridicule, peer pressure and the constant unwanted sexual advances of other women's husbands. Meanwhile, Dalton and Trent become billionaires running a national guitar production business. When they return to town years later to open a new headquarters on the East coast, Ana's whole world is turned upside down once again by Dalton's return. She'll do anything to show him how grown up she is and remind him how much that kiss meant to hear, but is it even possible that he might feel the same way? You'll just have to jump in to find out!

I was ready to give up on this book about half way through. But then the story does get better, more realistic and I enjoyed reading the second half. There is a HEA at the end (which is good). However, I had a hard time getting into this novella. It appeared that the main female character, Ana, has been overly obsessed with her brother's, Trent's best friend, Dalton. When it came to Dalton, she was constantly fantasying over him and it has been that way for the last ten years. When Trent and Dalton come from California back to their hometown to build a manufacturing plant for their company, Ana mind goes haywire. Ana's behavior, I felt, distracted from the story. Not only did she become foolish but she had no filter when she spoke to him. But, like I said, the second half of the story was much better. Ana knew from just one look that she loved Dalton, but she knew that it wouldn’t work because of her age because he was leaving to become a better man.

When her brother left too Ana has lived a hard life but has always kept to herself. When her brother Trent comes home with the news that he going to build a business in their hometown Ana couldn’t be more happier until she learns that Dalton her longtime crush will be here to help with the construction in their business.

Dalton is returning to his hometown that he really doesn’t belong in but their is a certain someone who he cannot wait to see and maybe claim her for good.

Ana and Dalton play this game if we can’t but why not and when they finally give in to each other they both know that they cannot walk away because this was meant to be.

Love story built with love and hunger. Such a perfect ending.

It was a good book. It kept my attention. It caused you to see & feel the emotion of the characters. You especially feel bad at the beginning when the lead female character (Ana) is getting judged for her outfit and you can tell the town looks down on her a lot and that her brother has been oblivious to all the pain the sister has felt over the years. There is parts in the book where you hate some of the characters especially the way they are treating Ana. Yet then you learn about those characters more and you feel sorry for some of them. There is also surprises in the book that you don't expect. So I appreciate it not being the same "song and dance" different author type book. I especially enjoyed the ability to feel so many emotions in just one book. I Would recommend to others.

Not what I expected

It was slow moving and all the characters seemed like they were still in high school. I don't think there was a single person that wasn't cheating on someone. Who thinks it's ok to continue having sex with someone who raped you and gang raped you with his friends because you need to pay bills? Immature and ridiculous. Where is the trauma associated with rape. Completely glanced over. The story went nowhere still waiting for the climax and the ending felt rushed and no conclusion. Felt no chemistry between main characters and skimmed over sex scenes because they were boring. Felt like the whole town needed therapy.

P.S. Why would a business owner not fix a chipped tooth a whole year later? Not realistic even if his girl thought it was cute. Immature.

Trying again - complicated, complex and conflicting

Try again by Haley Pierce was one whiplash ride. Ana and Dalton are absolutely destined to be together, but the winding, twisting path they take has so many sharp turns, full of complications. It’s complexity and emotional depth will stay with me. This story, with all it’s characters and history will keep you on the edge of your seat and feeling raw. The tension is just palpable.
I really enjoyed this well written book. The resolution for all and HEA at the end was especially appreciated and so awesome!
Overall a great story and in my opinion, Haley Pierce’s best yet.

I enjoyed this second chance romance.

Ana & Dalton grew up together, barely surviving the hits their small town threw at them. While Dalton left, Ana stayed and tried to make a life for herself. When he returns, all the old feelings and attraction reemerge.

I liked the angst and deep feelings the author was able to evoke through her writing. I could literally feel Ana's disappointment and frustration when life - and love - didn't quite work out the way she planned. Kudos also to Haley Pierce for the way she spun the plot of the story.

What I liked/Didn’t Like: This is a second chance romance that any romance reader would enjoy. Dalton and Anastasia’s story tugs on your heart and your tears too. Very well written it was a joy to read and be immersed in this book for a while.

It’s not bad...

If anything, it’s very real. Which made me cringe. I felt slimy and disgusted while reading this book, because the things that happened in the book were not pretty. The heroine Ana was not a goody-goody, most of the times her judge thoughts were annoying, but they were understandable. The hero was not a confident alpha douchebag, he was flawed and even disgusting (especially when he was 18). I almost puked in my mouth while reading their first kiss scene. I’m conflicted. The story made me physically ill and I don’t want to read anything like this again, but it was not a bad book

Loved it!! Enjoyed Ana and Dalton...and to an extent, Trent. A bit ticked her brother never looked in on her regardless of her saying she was fine especially since he seemed to be protective of her.
The only reason it didn't get a 5 is the scene with Sandra. That whole deal just didn't mesh with the rest of the story in context or feel.

A second chance romance. Dalton is best friends with Ana's brother, so he can never tell her that he loves her.Dalton left gone with Ana's brother Trent to build a business and become billionaires. Ana never wanted a penny, Art was her passion and it covered the Bill's. As Dalton and Trent return home to expand their business Dalton and Ana want to be together, but they still feel as if they can't. Can love over come anything or will they spend their lives alone?

I liked this book. This brother's best friend/second chance at love mash-up had good chemistry, a bit of sweetness, lots of drama and plenty of emotional turmoil. Dalton and Ana's history is complicated and there are many obstacles they must overcome on the road to finding happiness. This is my freely given, sincere review.

This complicated second chance romance read is well crafted with steam, drama, past hurts and an attraction that did not die. The characters are defined, likable with the exception of a few instances and relatable. This is an engaging and entertaining read and I liked it.

I really liked this second chance romance. Ana and Dalton grew up together, then he broke her heart and left. Now he is back and the spark is still there. Will they find a way to be together or will others try to tear them apart? Steamy chemistry, great characters and an entertaining story. I really liked it!

It’s not easy to be in love with your brother’s best friend. At the same time it’s not easier to be in love with your best friends little sister.
There you have Ana and Dalton.
I enjoyed this story and the characters interaction with each other. I’m happy that I don’t have a Sandra in my life.

Hard to put down

Dalton and Ana meet when Dalton comes to their house to give Trent, Ana’s brother a guitar lesson. Ana takes a look and that’s that’s it for her she was nine. It just 10 years, a lot of hard work and for Dalton and Ana to Try Again?
