Despite years of therapy, Samantha Roberts isn’t one for sharing her feelings or talking about her dead mother and contentious relationship with her father and his new wife until her beautiful new neighbor Wes Cohen convinces her that they should tell each other a truth. Wes is the first person to not run after hearing about Sam’s past. As the two develop a friendship that Wes insists can never be more, Sam begins to heal while discovering that Wes isn’t as perfect inside as he is on the surface and believes his past is the reason he won’t be with her, but the actual reason is more heartbreaking than she could have imagined.
This book had a story line that could have been developed so much more. The relationship between Samantha and her dad would have been interesting to explore. I also wished for more description of what happened with Samantha and her mom. The relationship stories were almost an afterthought. Unfortunately, the majority of the book told about the promiscuous activity of a group of spoiled rich kids. Sorry, I wanted to know more about the story and less description of these obnoxious kids.
I highly enjoyed this novel! It dealt with some of my favorite topics; first love, family dynamics, and mental illness. I found the main character to be real, and honest. The relationships in the book were well developed, and thoughtful. I would definitely recommend!
Absolutely LOVED this book! Devoured it in just a few hours. For a YA romance, this sure had immense depth that you usually don't find in these kind of books, which was a joyful surprise, even though the depth wasn't a joyful matter. Splendid characters and character development. GREAT READ!!!
