I really want to like these books because I like this kind of book.

However...

The characters are inconsistent. Throughout. The protagonist is supposedly so unlikable that his closest friends have all turned or pulled back from him, but at the same time he's the "only one who can fix things" that require being likable. We're not SHOWN how he alienated his friends we're just told about it. Lots of telling, no showing.

Character development is minimal to non-existent, thus motivations remain contrived. Things just happen so other things can happen later but none of it is tied together in anyway that makes sense.

Dark shadows

Wow this series gets better and more intense as it goes from book to book.
The continuing adventures of Alex and the UEF get more and more interesting and complex ,and the storyline keeps expanding.
I was a little disappointed in book two of this series because it seemed short and rushed, however this book easily made up for that. I feel great anxiety for Alex and I wonder how he will get out of his current situation, if the rest of his crew is alive , and if he can get back to earth 🌎 in time to warn of the impending attack by the Borg like Dave that's coming.
Really looking forward to book 4 of the series if it's out yet. ?

Good story line. There is no foul language which I appreciate. I will be looking forward to more from this author.
