E = Einstein: His Life, His Thought, and His Influence on Our Culture

Rate this book
In the history of physics, there has been no greater visionary than Albert Einstein. Through his revolutionary Theory of Relativity, he fundamentally changed the way we look at the universe. But there is more to Einstein than just E=mc2—and this anthology of 30 fascinating essays, presented by three renowned scientist/editors, captures his various facets. Complete with more than 125 color illustrations and explanatory sidebars that make the information accessible to the layperson, these revelatory articles explore his life, theories, and legacy. They range from the scientific (“The Cosmos According to Eintein,” “Time Travel in Einstein’s Universe”) to the political (“Einstein as Jew and Zionist,” “Einstein and Nazi Science”) to discussions of his role as an icon (“What’s with the Hair?”).

This is one of my favorite childhood books, an eye-opening and inspiring collection of essays on the life and work of the scientific luminary that was Albert Einstein from the beginning to the end. It is a semi-technical biography.

I did find most of this book fascinating from the scientific angle as well as getting to know his personality, but the book is somewhat redundant since so many author's essays are included. After the fifth or sixth explanation of the special theory of relativity I became a bit bored. The saving grace of the book is that just when you think a chapter is rehashing the same old stuff, something truly wonderful is there. I would recommend this book, just keep an open mind when you feel you are rereading parts.

Although I do not like many biographies, this was one of the more interesting ones; thus, although I do not enjoy reading about his life and background, this book also included some information and thoughts about his ideas, which was interesting and different than most biographies.
