This was another great book by Susan Polis Schutz. I really enjoyed reading it. However, I would have enjoyed to have a few more poems. This book was a joy to read and very inspirational. I would recommend reading it.
Reach Out for Your Dreams, collected by Susan Polis Schultz, is a volume of quotes about doing something about your dreams and desires. I honestly like actual stories better, but I think that those who love poems would be thrilled to sit down with this book.
This book is such a good book, I love how the poems all have such enthusiasm to strive for your dreams! I love these poetry books and truly love how this book shows endurance and lets you go for what you want. When reading this book I totally would Recommend!
This book is comprised of 61 quotes and poems dealing with the future, belief, meaning, life philosophy, personal development, leadership, etc. It is a quick read because there isn't that much content. I thought it was interesting that the editor/author put together a collection of quotes from various sources (some are very well known, others not) and added her single poem. I think this is encouraging to anyone who would like to write a book, but hasn't yet developed a lot of content. There is food for thought here, and she drew on some voices that I had not read before. Many are profound and encouraging, but with a few I got the impression it was more compelling to her at that time, than what spoke to me when reading them at this moment. It’s sometimes timing and where we are in life, as I’ve noticed that my outlook and perspective changes as we grow and move through our life experiences and different seasons in life. Here’s a few samples of what to expect:
“Hold fast to dreams for if dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly.” -- Langston Hughes
“The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can’t find them, make them.” -- George Bernard Shaw
“Do not wish to be anything but what you are, and try to be that perfectly.” -- St. Francis De Sales
“This life is yours. Take the power to choose what you want to do and do it well. Take the power to love what you want in life and love it honestly. Take the power to walk in the forest and be a part of nature. Take the power to control your own life. No one else can do it for you. Take the power to make your life happy.” -- Susan Polis Schutz
I came across this slim volume (again) while I was reorganizing my books and sat down to look through it, as is the wont of any good reader. Underneath the title "Reach Out for Your Dreams" my English grandmother had written, "& may they all come true Shireen & all your life may you find as much pleasure and happiness as I have from reading & quoting good poetry that will always bring you soul satisfaction that will go with you wherever you go."
I think that's the longest dedication she ever wrote in a birthday gift to me. The year was 1981, and it was a tough one. I'd forgotten what a sharp, observant tack she was. Thirty years later, it's like she's speaking to me again. That's the value of this book to me, more than any of the poems and quotations in it.
