SOREN

You know what’s not fun? Going on a Fiji vacation with four other couples. Especially when recently single.

What’s even worse is when a past hook-up arrives unannounced.

Not only do we have a history, but he’s ten years younger and a famous rock star. Most importantly, he’s my friend’s little brother.

Being trapped on an island with Jet Jackson is going to be sweet torture because all I want is another chance.

I just don’t think he’s going to give it to me.

JET

You know what’s not fun? Escaping one guy who broke my heart only to run into another.

Being on the road for three years has left me exhausted. The last thing I want is for Caleb ‘Soren’ Sorensen to try for round two.

I can’t fight my draw to him. I’ve never been able to.

I’m suddenly back to being the naïve kid who stupidly lusted after a hockey player.

All I can think is if I let Soren get close, I’ll walk away from this vacation with a double broken heart.

*Hat Trick is a full-length M/M romance with a guaranteed HEA. This is the final book in the Fake Boyfriend series and as such is not recommended to be read as a standalone. All main characters of the series feature heavily.*

Wow, wow, WOW! This story fully earned its place alongside the rest of the books in this amazing series.

And everything that happened during the group's vacation in Fiji, taking Jet and Soren from a place of awkward interactions and hurt feelings to so much more? Gah!
It gave us our defining moment. It was the first time I’d heard Jet’s song the way it was supposed to be heard, the first time I saw how much we had truly affected each other’s lives, and the whole place means so much to me and to us.
I loved not only Jet and Soren, but also how this story covered every single major event (good, bad, and ugly) in their relationship, from their first tentative hookup to their "hashtag real Disney love" HEA.

The guys had a *lot* to overcome along the way, so some parts of the story felt pretty heavy and angst-laden.
His shaggy brown hair is unstyled, his ripped jeans are tight, and the cocky smirk that has haunted me for three years is still the same.

This vacation just became a whole lot more interesting.

As we lock eyes, I realize I’m wrong.

It’s awkward. The word I’m looking for is awkward.

To help level that seriousness out, though, there was lots of humor from Jet (as if that wouldn't be a given), but the snark & banter, with Soren giving as good as he got, was also extremely high, so color me one happy glamper.
“Gonna knock or …”

“Gonna move your hand lower or …”

Damn the warm sound of his chuckle.

Soren slides open the screen door. “No. Because then you’ll tell the guys I was jerking off when you came to get me, and then that’ll become a running joke.”

“Oh, bless your heart. That’s already a running joke.”

With the nature of Jet's touring and Soren's away game schedule, there was a lot of traveling, but even the longest separations in the book were handled well and I found them tolerable. Not my favorite, of course, but I managed.

We did get one dreaded "Big Misunderstanding", but I was thrilled when Jet's blunt nature didn't let it hang in the air for too long before a timely confrontation resulted in them being even stronger than ever together.

The story did contain Jet's , who I surprisingly only hated for the first 75% of the book, but Eden handled that character with poise; otherwise, I'd be bitching like a mad man about now.

I absolutely adored the full and continuous inclusion of all of the previous MC's in this final story of the series, instead of them briefly pulling a Stan Lee-style cameo for two seconds, then going MIA for the remainder of the book.
“How are we doing this?” I ask.

“All of us against you and Ollie,” Damon says.

I count. “Six on two?”

“I’ve seen that porno,”
Talon says.

“You’ve probably lived that porno,” Noah points out.

Talon and Miller smile.

I'd rate this story at around 4.5 stars, only coming in behind Damon and Maddox's book, my absolute favorite, and highly recommend the entire series to, well... EVERYONE!

After reading every single book in this series, I had a feeling that Jet and Soren's book was gonna be my favorite. I have been looking forward to Jet's story ever since he was introduced and I can gladly say that I was right... It was awesome !!!

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1517

It became clear pretty fast that Jet and Soren have been keeping some pretty naughty secrets from everyone else. Flashbacks of a sexy rendezvous show us how well Jet and Soren really know each other !!

So when these two meet up again on a Fiji getaway with family and friends...things do get a bit awkward. They also get quite hilarious and hot...The sexual tension could be cut with a knife !!

https://www.google.com/search?q=knife cutting through air gif

Both men just got out of a crappy relationship and they were both in desperate need of some tender loving. Thankfully this is what they found with one another. But we all know the road to true love isn't always easy. Plenty of bumps along the way...but when it's real it's real and true love always conquers all !!

9196120.gif (500×255)

With this awesome book, we have come to the end of an amazing series. I am so curious to see what will be next from Eden. Whatever it is, I will definitely give it a go...

Highly recommended !!!

Okay, what the hell? I did not expect this book to be this freaking good, but oh my, was I in for a pleasant surprise!

I knew I was going to love Jet from encountering him in previous books, but his epic love with Soren came totally unexpected. They were so cute together and I adored how much they were into each other.
The way Soren kept fighting for Jet and how he desperately wanted to be with him had my heart flutter damn near uncontrollably. It was just so adorable.
It wasn't all fluff though, because there was plenty of tension and drama in their story. Not everything went particularly smoothly, but it made for some pretty good moments with plenty of emotion. It had me interested from start to finish and I was extremely invested in the whole thing.

The humour in this was also really good, especially at the start during the whole Fiji vacation. Most of this is due to Jet's amazingly funny personality, but all the other characters bounce off of each other super well too.

I really loved how we got so much interactions with the characters from previous books. Their little found-family dubbed 'the gay brigade' is heart-warming and I always enjoy seeing these couples be together. Soren and Jet have taken a place as one of my favourites among them, but I seriously love every single one of them.

I have been waiting for Jet's story ever since he was introduced in this series. I enjoyed his story, though i wanted to love it. I am a little bummed his awesomeness was Kinda tamed down here.

This could have been filled with a lot of drama, but the author decided not to go there and i appreciated that. I got no ranting energy.

Jet and Soren fit together, they do deserve each other. The chemistry was there and i was bummed a little because Jet spent almost half the book pining for his ex.

It was nice seeing the whole crew together. Noah will forever be my favorite.

There were some Lol moments which i appreciated, I love laughing and this book made me laugh.

I felt this was more of a set up to Harley's book or something and a glimpse of the other couples lives, I enjoyed all that but i wanted it to be just Jet and Soren most of the time, it's like Jet and Soren couldn't hold it on their own.

Overall, it was entertaining.

Omg. I feel giddy rn! This was so sweet and ummm I couldn’t stop laughing. Just hilarious from start to finish and I had a smile on my face most of the book.☺️ Ollie and Lennon are still my favorite couple but Jet & Soren are number two faves for me.💓 The sense of place was really well done here. Idk I felt like EF’s writing overall was so top notch here. Like the humor and banter… nearly perfect. Call me Cody Ko because I got sick of the old jokes!!!!!! Lmao.😅 I also liked that there weren’t a ton of sex scenes because sometimes for me EF overdoes it and I get bored but having said that - I didn’t think the sex scenes were that good here so maybe that’s why I was glad there weren’t that many??? Who knows😂 I also enjoyed the nods to One Direction time and time again which I bet will happen even more in EF’s popstar series. Really enjoyed the dual timelines and the intrigue they brought to the story. Like I’m a sucker for a chapter ending on a bit of tantalizing info that circles back to the past and then the next chapter is about the past, good stuff!! EF writes internal and external struggles so well and that is still the case here. I felt so much empathy for these two and adored them so much - it was so rewarding to watch them make it through their struggles and have their happy ending.💜 I’ve yet to be obsessed with any of the books in the series or have an all time favorite and I always feel like the books stay past their welcome like we should have wrapped this up and everyone should have gone home long ago but alas, it was a (mostly) fun time and I’m glad I went to the party.😌 And I will be diving into Harley’s book ASAP because i already adore him!!!

I absolutely loved the first part of the story that takes place in Fiji. That part of Jet and Soren's story was just perfect and I loved that there were flashbacks to what happened before.

Another thing I loved about Fiji was seeing all the other couples again. I loved that they played a huge part in this book. It was a perfect way to end the series.

I found the touring part a little less enjoyable, but that's only because I'm not that interested in reading about music industry and everything it entails. It helped that Jet and Soren were so lovely together and I think the situation with Harley was handled really well.

Overall, I really enjoyed the entire series. I have already reread some of the previous books more than once and will continue to in the future.

not what i expected

there's a lot of things working against this book, not all of which are the book's fault. i started reading this book and then set it aside midway thru to read Junkie by Cambria Hebert. which was my favorite MM romance of the year and probably one of my favorite MM romances of all time. so circumstances were kind of working against Hat Trick. but... i probably wouldn't have set down Hat Trick in the first place had it been attention grabbing.

i think it's always tough to write relationships between two side characters that you've been building over the course of the series. people expect a lot. and i was no exception. i wanted something... not angsty or dramatic but BIG. something sexy and sweet that rivaled the first book for me.

unfortunately i think because the build up for these two was presented in other books, their actual story fell flat. i loved soren and jet. but this book was quiet, kind of slow moving, and while i wanted our main characters to be together the thing that kept them apart was silly and resolved within the first like 50 or so pages.

it's hard to say what would have improved this story. i think eden finley does an incredible job at touching on the realities of the lives of her characters. like it's prolly pretty fcking difficult being gay when ur a rockstar or a pro sports player. and i think she handles family relationships well. but there just wasn't anything in this story that made me think "damn, this is a favorite."

all of this is just a long way of saying i felt sort of blase towards this book. it's not bad AT ALL. but it didn't provide the emotional intensity i craved.

*Reread 6/26/23 on Audiobook- I’ve reread this a bunch of times recently and still loved it so I was surprised how much I didn’t care for the audiobook. I usually love Iggy Toma but his southern accent clashed with the way I thought Jet would sound. I get that Jet would have an accent since he’s from the south but I just wasn’t feeling it. It’s totally a me thing though because my ex boyfriend is from North Carolina and has an accent a lot like Jet’s and since it’s one of the most dysfunctional relationships I’ve ever been in, hearing a character I love so much sound a bit like him just irked me. No thank you. And because Jet’s narrator had an accent, it made Soren sound like he did also when in Jet’s POV and it felt like there were 4 MCs instead of the two. I’d give the audio 3 stars ⭐️ Thankfully it only cost me $2 during a super sale.

This is my favorite book in this entire series and that’s crazy because I fucking loved book two (Noah/Matt) but this one gave me all the feels! It was so angsty in the beginning that I had tears in my eyes within the first 8 chapters. I loved all the song lyrics too. The lyrics to “Someone Else’s Perfect” made me cry after learning their backstory. This was one of those epic second chance romances and I love Jet/Soren as a couple. 🥰

Jet and Soren had a connection from the first time they met. It was unlike anything either of them had ever felt before but Jet was leaving to go on tour with his band and the timing wasn’t right. These two have another encounter a year later and it results in Jet’s band finally having a number one hit from his terribly broken heart. Present day, 3 years later, all the couples from the previous books are in Fiji and Jet shows up. Even though there is bad blood between them, Jet and Soren cannot stay away from each other. This is the start of their second chance romance.

I LOVED everything about this book from start to finish. I loved learning about what happened between them in the past and I loved the songs Jet wrote because of Soren. I loved how Soren wasn’t going to make the same mistakes twice and continually showed up for Jet time and time again. I loved how much Soren cared for Jet because despite all Jet’s snark, he was just a boy who wanted to be cared for and loved. I loved how much Jet grew as a person having someone like Soren in his corner. Even though I wasn’t a huge fan of the prequel to this book, I liked seeing Marty and Luce again. I’m super excited I never started this author’s music series because I’m going to go into now knowing what is going on.

One of the best books I’ve read all year. 💗

This could've been soooo drama filled. So thank you Eden Finley for not going there.

I've wanted Jet's book from the get-go. And it definitely didn't disappoint.

Sad to see this series come to an end but what a great way to go out (extended epilogue/book 6 aside).

Can't wait to see what EF does next.

Hat Trick is book 5 of Eden Finley's Fake Boyfriend series. This story changes the game and there is no fake boyfriend trope actually going on. Instead we have a bit of the forbidden romance happening since Jet is the younger brother of Soren's friend, Matt, whose story we got in book 2, Trick Play.

Ever since reading Matt's book I've been super excited to get Jet's story. He was such a fun and crazy character that I knew his own book would be just as amazing as he was. And I wasn't wrong. He definitely changed a bit in his own story and had matured some and event though it didn't really change how I felt about this book, I did kind of wish that we didn't have the little time jump between the previous book and this one. Only because I was greedy for more of Jet's craziness, which was toned down in this book. But overall he was still that Jet that I first fell in love with. And somehow even a little bolder when it came to Soren.

He and Soren had a lot they needed to work through and even with some very awkward encounters, they still had that chemistry that was sparking between them the entire time. I loved seeing that and how they dealt with their own heartbreaks from the past. Together they had an insane attraction that was fun and intriguing. It had me glued to this book from start to finish and for that it gets a big recommend from me.

4 Stars!

I wanna say it was like at first chapter with these men but honestly, it took me a bit to connect with these characters. I was maybe a quarter or more in when I was starting to really get into their story. I liked that we were given their past because it really made you root for their now and future. I even liked the fact that Jet wasn't completely over his recent break up just because Soren was now back in the picture and single as well. They were both honest about still being in their hurt even though knowing that they still had feelings for one another.

Although the age gap is brought up often in humor, I didn't feel it. I thought they were a great match and their age really didn't play a factor in how they treated each other or how they handled the up and downs that came with their relationship.

The angst was low and I always appreciate that. I have to be in a mood to read a really angsty book. Lucky with this book any misunderstandings that happened didn't last long and were swiftly dealt with.

This was a great addition to this series. Loved all the guys. Loved all their stories.

I can't help but want a Ryder book and a Harley book. I know I'm supposed to come away from this book hating Harley, but instead I'm intrigued. I want his story. I want to know if he finds his way and if he finds his person. I also want to know about Ryder. What happened in his past that brought him his baby girl. I'm hoping they get their stories written.

Happy reading dolls! xx

Update: I'm sad to see this series end and I really enjoyed this book, not as much as the previous ones but it was still absolutely a 4 star book :)

I'm giving this 5 stars because someone gave it 2 stars even though I'm quite sure the book hasn't even been written by Eden yet, so I don't really get the rating? Why do people do this?

I'm sure once I've actually read it someday at the end of 2019 it will still be a 5 star book, so...

What a fantastic end to an outstanding series! In Hat Trick, we finally got Soren's and Jet's story. Their story is deliciously angsty, swoony, and sexy.

What I loved:

-Soren. He's 33, nearing the end of his hockey career, and coming off a breakup from his long term boyfriend. I loved Soren, his loyalty, and his selflessness. He seriously made me swoon.

-Jet. He's a 23-year-old up and coming musician. Jet wears his heart on his sleeve.

-I loved how Eden Finley covered their entire history. We got it all, and I must add that she handled the flashbacks expertly. They were a pivotal part of their story, and they were integrated perfectly.

-Second chance. For Soren, Jet was the one that got away, and for Jet, there was always "what ifs."

-Age gap. There's a 10-year difference, and I'm happy to report their age difference isn't something that gets dragged out like some books.

-CHEMISTRY. It's hot, at one point, even dirty. ;)

-Despite this installment being pretty angsty, it never felt overwhelming.

-And the end was perfect.

The Fake Boyfriend Series by Eden Finley just continued to get better and better with each book. Not only are they fun, sweet, and passionate, but they're also about family, friendships, courage, and love.

5 Stars! Highly recommend it!

I'm kind of sad that this was the last book in the "Fake Boyfriend" series so I tried to read slowly and make it last longer. I wasn't very effective though. I basically inhaled this story!

Jet is the younger brother of Matt, one of the MCs from Trick Play, he's a singer and his band is one step away from hitting stardom.

Soren is the hockey player that came out in Deke and a close friend of Matt's.

Those two have a common social circle but they also have a secret from three years ago so they've been kind of avoiding each other since then. The story starts with all four couples from the previous books plus Soren taking a two-week vacation on a private island in Fiji. Soren broke up with his longtime boyfriend a few months ago and, even though he knows that was the right move, he's starting to question his decision to go away as the only single one among four couples.

That is until Jet shows up heartbroken after splitting up with his closeted boyfriend. The attraction between them is unmistakable and soon they give in. It's supposed to be just for fun but they can't deny their feelings no matter how many obstacles they have to overcome. And they have enough of those: ex-boyfriends in close proximity, paparazzis following them everywhere, distance.

Both of them are in different phases in their careers, Jet is just starting out a very promising career in music while Soren has to deal with the possibility that he's facing down his last season as a pro hockey player.

The fact that they found each other again at this partucular moment in their lives works wonders for both of them. They support and encourage each other no matter what. I liked that even though they were possessive, there was also trust between them and understanding.

I loved both of these characters, their humor, their chemistry, their personalities. I liked that the ex wasn't a shallow character and that there were so many supporting characters around without any of them stealing the spotlight from Jet and Soren. This was their story and there was no denying that, but we also got to peek into the future of the other four couples and see what their lives are like a few years down the road.

This might have been the last book in the series but it's definitely not the last we'll hear from these characters...

This is book #5 in the Fake boyfriend series by Eden Finley.

I really enjoyed the writing style and fell in love with all the characters in this series. It was a real pleasure to revisit all the couples. They are different but special in their own way.

I was looking forward to this one, because I was super curious about Jet and Soren. I have to admit I didn't really feel the 10 years age gap between them.

Jet is the lead singer of a band. He's always on the road, opening the concerts for a bigger band.

Soren is a hockey player. He's struggling to find a team that would give him a contract with a no-trade clause, but he's afraid he might need to retire and he isn't ready yet.

They meet again in Fiji, where the "gay brigade" - the other couples in the series, spend a vacation together.

We get some flashbacks from the past, how Jet and Soren met, what happened between them 3 years ago. I was glad there weren't too many scenes with their memories. And now they are just as hot for the other, even if they fight it at first. I can't say I agreed with the secrecy, and the "baby brother" comments in Soren's head. I also would have wanted more angst, maybe Jet's ex to make a bigger move on him. There are a lot of hot scenes and I could really picture them together. I loved the jealousy both felt.

What I loved the most would be the ending. It was extremely sweet and beautiful. Overall I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it!

Unfortunately, this didn’t really resonate with me.
I really enjoyed all the other books in this series, but Jet and Soren left me a bit … cold.

Jet was such a sassy and interesting character in the earlier books, but despite the snark we get from him here, I just didn’t get the same vibes as before.
Soren seems to be mainly driven by lust and the fact that he came out because one of Jet’s songs is one of his main reasons why he fancies him. Which I find a teeny odd. Is that all it takes?

A lot was made of their age difference of ten years, but with Soren behaving more like ‘a lad’ than an adult, it wasn't something that really worked. For example, this ‘man’ of 33 has a habit of putting his cap on the wrong way round (see cover). I know this is only a minor detail, but to me, that’s a totally juvenile and silly gesture, which made it more difficult for me to take Soren seriously.

Basically, I had a hard time feeling a more profound than skin-deep connection between Jet and Soren, even if they insist that there is one. I also thought it would take longer for them to get together than a look and a couple of conversations pretty much early on in the book. Yes, they do it on a ‘just have fun’ basis to start with, but both know that's just BS.

The rest of their story is mainly about how they make their relationship work, with the slight (and not very earth-shattering) hick-up of Jet’s past boyfriend. I also expected more from that plot line.

And there is a LOT of presence of all the other guys in the series.
And a LOT of 'blokey' banter. I have no idea why it didn’t do much for me. (I do like all these guys, right!) But I would have preferred less of that and more relationship development between Jet and Soren.

Tbh, it’s a bit frustrating I couldn’t enjoy this last instalment more.

Finally had a chance to finish this one after being busy, away, busy while away, and then struggling to bounce back into routine and not slump, but all that aside, I can definitively say this didn't end up being my favourite despite the fact that I thought it would be. Maybe I expected too much? But I definitely think some of the fun was lost due to circumstances as Jet wasn't quite the OTT ridiculous ball of ADHD energy that he's been as a supporting character and, weirdly, I missed that. As for Soren.. I don't know. He was fine. This one was just fine.

This was rockstar meets hockey player and we definitely got the best of both worlds without it being too drama on either side. I liked it. I just didn't love it. But it was definitely better than DEKE, so. I won't drop it down to two star territory. If nothing else, it was easy to pick this back up after, like, six days away from it, and it was no hardship to finish, so.

I'm already like 30% into the bind-up of epilogues so I think I'll be wrapping this series tonight and moving on.

Favorite couple of this series award goes to: Soren and Jet! Yup, this was my favorite book, I’m a sucker for cheesy romance and this made me swoon. I think this couple had a lot of things against them and I was extremely entertained with their journey to find happiness. Loved the history they had, the age gap, the chemistry, the songs, past lovers, the friends…
I knew I loved Jet since book 2 and Soren was a nice surprise, he was portrayed as a grump in previous book lol but I liked how he completely changed once Jet brought sunshine to his life.
Also, I love how Ollie, Soren and Damon have this awesome found family apart from the Queer Collective (Puckboys books)

Exceptional. This one might have just sneaked ahead of Miller and Talon to be my favourite in what has been a truly outstanding series from Eden Finley.

Jet and Soren were just such a compelling pair. The use of flashbacks worked brilliantly to give the reader insight into the single previous encounter they'd had before each knew who the other was and the chemistry and connection between them was palpable.

From the moment they meet again on Fiji to the absolutely brilliant Epilogue, Jet and Soren were just a joy to read. There are sparks and sarcasm, there is love and there is ultimately a pair who just bring out the best in the other.

Sex is steamy and sensual and also sometimes funny and I love how these two can bring the other out of a funk. The tensions in the book are all created by external forces and I liked that Eden didn't dwell too long with any sort of will they, won't they over Jet's ex-boyfriend and with Soren's professional ice hockey career.

The rest of the gang are also on hand to bring the laughs and, if this is to be the final full-length book, I think Eden has brought the curtain down in some style.

2★'s = it was ok.

Shoot me now. Ugh, ugh, ugh. I’m going to try to do this as quick and painlessly as possible.

description

I didn’t like this. Like my rating says, it was ok but still, for me, a huge disappointment. I know I am going to be in the minority and most of you probably feel a little like this right now towards me…

description

But seriously.

description

Put your pitchforks away, you can’t love them all and the end of this series was a huge letdown for me. I was looking forward to this book, a lot. When I finished Blindsided I ended my review with this question: Has JJ (Jet) aged enough yet? I’m ready for his story now please!

This book is the answer to my question but sadly, the answer is…

description

Jet has not aged enough yet. He hasn’t aged at all actually.

The setup in the previous book was perfect. I knew we would eventually get his story and I knew we’d have to wait a lot of years because at the time Jet was, I think 19? Way too young for his HEA. Way too young for Soren. I was ok with that wait. I had thoughts in my head how it would go. Longing, sightings, you know, build up.

Well, that’s not how it went down. Any which way I try to tell you my thoughts would be a spoiler so I’ll stop here, but it went down in a way I just didn’t like. Didn’t get and totally didn’t connect with.

Jet read like a child. Soren just read unbelievable and almost a little star struck, I felt nothing between the two of them. I never felt the love and really, I just didn’t like this installment and I AM BUMMED!

Maybe I’ve aged out of stories like this.

This was just not for me.

Finally!!

I've been waiting years for Jet and Soren's book. Ok, ok, not even a full year because I read the rest of the series earlier in the year. But it felt like years because I wanted their story SO bad. And I knew it would end up being my favorite. Sorry Matt and Noah, you've been demoted to second place. Below is an actual photo of me as I read it.

I was thinking about the many reasons I loved this book so much. One of the biggest is that Jet popped into the series early in book two. He had a certain spark to him, such light, energy, sass and fizziness. I got to know him through the books and so I was rooting for him early. Then I saw his early connection with Soren and began to root for them as a couple. So their story started before their actual book began. And that made their happily ever after all the better.

Put simply, I've loved all books in the, "Fake Boyfriend," series but I LOVED this one. It was full of sweetness, snark and steam. Basically the three things that make the perfect feel good romance. I'm so going to miss all of these guys. We have one more bonus book coming in a few weeks but I don't think I'll be ready to say goodbye.

Jet and Soren

2.75 stars

This is Jet and Soren's story.

3 years after their one night stand the two reunite unexpectedly in Fiji. Turns out there was more feelings behind that one night stand which left them avoiding each other for years. Now face to face again attraction reemerges. However, both are recently mending broken hearts
Which question is what they feel a rebound or something more?

In the end they call their love epic but I'm not sure it really was. It was cute but didn't quite hit the mark for me.

The reason I love this series is because every couple has a healthy relationship and they all are a big found family.

Also, can I just mention, I read the 5 books in 3 days? Because that sounds like some kind of record.

3.5 ⭐️
Jet’s the hottest thing I’ve ever seen—and that’s fully clothed. Naked and spread open for me, he’s so beautiful I can’t stand it.
“You’re so hot,” I say.
“Fucking duh.” Jet’s response is all gurgled.

“Fucking duh” 😂

Does Wade have a book yet?

Favorite Quote: “Because you’ve always held a piece of my heart, but I’m giving all of it to you right now. I love you, Jet.”

Summary

Three years ago, Soren became the first NHL player that was out and proud. He came out for himself, but another reason was because of his ex-boyfriend. Soren thought all their problems would be fixed now that he was out, but he soon found out they had bigger problems than this. So, he joins four other couples on a vacation trip, which of course turned out to not be the smartest idea, not only for being the ninth wheel but, his old hookup, Jet (who also happens to be his friend's little brother) crashes the trip. The last time Jet and Soren saw each other it did not end well. So, Jet as decides to take a break from his tour, he is not expecting to see Soren, let alone a Soren that is single. Is a vacation to Fiji the right place to have a second chance at love? Well, Soren and Jet are about to find out.

Review

Before I get into the details of this review, I wanted to talk about this line in the book: “Oh, it’s gonna be worse than when 1D broke up.” → nothing will EVER be worse than when they broke up...but okay.

Anyways, I am kind of upset that this is the last full book in the Fake Boyfriend series, and I did not enjoy it that much. To be honest, since before I read the story, I just had a feeling I wasn't going to like it. So, I should have just gone with my gut, but I decided to read it anyways because of how much I really did love the characters. This was just one of those books that did not work out for me, but I could see why other people might love it.

In regard to the plot, there was a repeating theme in all of the books where each couple would basically be friends with benefits and then kind of deny their feelings for each other, even when it was so obvious, they liked each other. This happened in EVERY book. So, by this fifth book I was just so over it and I think that was the main reason I did not enjoy this. In all, I found it kind of boring and dull. I was skimming a lot of the parts in this book.

In terms of characters, I feel indifferent towards Soren and Jet. Even though I really did like Jet's character in the early books, I just was not feeling the same vibes as before. However, I did relate to Jet's struggle of wanting someone to love him and as always, I think Eden is great at writing real life internal issues and problems. Soren was okay, in all honesty I can barely remember any of his characteristics besides that he is "old". This was mentioned so many times in the book... I know it was more of a joke, but it got so boring.

For romance, I did not really care about their relationship that much. Did Soren and Jet have some sweet moments? Yes, but I just did not care. Eden has always been great at writing sweet moments between her heroes so to that extent I did enjoy some scenes.

To be honest, the only moments I truly enjoyed was the group moments from all the other characters in the book. Especially with Ollie/Lennon and Miller/Talon since they are my favorite couples. Like look at these two moments from my favorite couples 🥺🥺🥺:

“Miller turns to Talon. “Maybe we should do that.”
“No wedding?” Talon exclaims. “No way. We’re doing it and selling the pics for a shit ton of money.”
“Like we need more money.”
“Fine. Then we’ll do it to inspire all those scared queer kids out there and reassure them that the world is changing.”
A light bulb practically goes off above Miller’s head when he realizes what his fiancé’s up to. “You just want a bachelor party, don’t you?”
“Duh. Is that so much to ask?”
Miller laughs. “Fine. We’ll do it your way, but just so you know, the kid thing was the swaying factor, not the bachelor party.”

And...

“He glances between Lennon and Jet. “I, uh, read things.” Ollie’s head quickly snaps in Lennon’s direction. “And don’t make a joke about my ability to even do that.”

In all, I am glad there is an epilogue book for all the couples in this series. I really am going to miss them, and I am not ready to say goodbye yet :(

This is more of a 4.5.

I have been waiting very eagerly to read this book for a long time now and I’ve probably spent that last week checking my kindle religiously to see if the ARC had arrived. So when I finally saw the email in my inbox, I was ecstatic and had to read it immediately. And here I am a few hours later, very happy that it was a lot of fun but also sad that this awesome series has almost come to an end.

One thing I’m always sure I’ll get in an Eden Finley book is a lot of laughs and banter and while I got all of that, this story also had a good dose of angst and I loved it all. It’s almost like a second chance romance plus destined to be together plus forced proximity, and I thought the author did a brilliant job in making me feel all the feels. The one thing that made this book standout in my mind was the way the author managed to capture the feelings of loneliness that the characters feel as well as the anguish of heartbreak and a long distance relationship. It really made me all emotional and I sped through the book because I couldn’t put it down for even a second.

The first time we met Jet in Trick Play, I fell in love and I kept hoping that he would get a book - so it’s been a long wait but also very happy that we finally get to see his story. He has had a rough upbringing and then having to change a lot about himself to be a successful musician, has left him feeling very lonely and disbelieving in fairytale love; and he covers it all up by showing off a very over the top and mouthy version of himself to the world. But underneath it all, he is a softie and just wants someone who loves his true self and I wanted to give him a hug.

Soren on the other hand has known heartbreak and longing and doesn’t think that young and vibrant Jet is for him, but their chemistry and attraction is off the charts right from get go and a relationship just seems so inevitable. He is exactly the kind of rock solid support that Jet needs and I loved how good they were for each other. And the idea of Jet writing emo songs about his feelings for Soren is so sweet and adorable and wow was I besotted throughout reading this book.

I am totally in love with the couple but I won’t deny that the other best part of this book for me was meeting the whole gang - and I really do mean all the couples of the series. As Jet refers to them, the whole “Gay brigade” is on a vacation in Fiji for almost half of the book and I had so much fun following all their shenanigans and getting to know more about each of their lives. They are all such a delightful and supportive bunch and I adore how the author gives so much importance to friendship and found family. The way they all have each other’s backs while also incessantly teasing each other is wonderful to read about and I have to say this is probably one of my most favorite fictional friend groups ever.

To conclude, if you have read the previous books in the series, you can’t give this a miss. It’s fun, sexy, lovely and angsty in equal measure and I promise you’ll love it. It doesn’t really work as a stand-alone because all of the characters from the series play major roles here, so you’ll have to start from the beginning if you are new to the series. And while I’m extremely sad that the series is ending, I’m also excited that we’ll be getting a final extended epilogue for each of the couple put together in a book soon and I can’t wait to read it already.
