In 1922, Lawrence used the name John Hume Ross to enlist in the RAF; after being discovered and forced out, he took the name T. E. Shaw to join the Royal Tank Corps (1923). He was eventually let back into the RAF (1925).

这一前一后两位迷弟，一个感性一个理性，一个塑造了TE的浪漫英雄的形象，一个从军事历史的角度考察他。喜欢他们最后对TE性格不同概括，比较遗憾没有先读LH的传记。TE帮RG改作文当中竟然不少欢快调皮的段落😂。 LH的优点是一丝不苟地把每次对话都记录在案，询问TE对各种问题的看法，更像一个记者或观察者，也提供了更加完整的信息。
