World Within: A Borneo Story
This is a book about the inhabitants of the remote interior of Sarawak - the Kelabit above all - who were brought into rude contact with the world outside by the outbreak of the Second World War and more particularly by the Japanese occupation of this former British protectorate. A picture of their way of life and of how they reacted to their new situation is given through the eyes of the late Tom Harrisson who became a legend in his own right and has probably done more than any other man to draw the attention of the 'world within' to the world without. It is also the story of one of the little known side-shows of the Second World War and is therefore an account of modern war on a remote front and of ancient peoples pursuing a way of life little changed down the centuries. First published in 1959 World Within depicts a world which is no longer so untouched, and in this way has an enhanced value as a document of a bygone era.

A truly amazing story!It covers history, anthropology, and human interest. Style of writing sometimes a bit strange.

So glad I went to the trouble to find this book it's a side of W W II I never new of by a man who had a wonderful knowledge of Borneo and the people of Borneo
