a really unique story and a really unique way of telling it!
i will start by saying that i was quite hesitant to pick this book up because:
1. i'm not super into scifi/robot/AI stories and
2. amazon would NOT stop pushing this book at me
however
this was a lot of fun. i believe this story was originally written to become an audible original & the way that the narration was done was really awesome. you get different voices for nearly every character, including the AI, and there are sound effects done throughout. felt more like listening to a podfic or a netflix show sans visual component. which was really engaging and had me glued to my seat even if the content isn't typically my thing.
the story itself is about a girl named trinity falling for a "biosynthetic humanoid" and uncovering secrets about his tech & her past. i don't want to get into details bc spoilers but this story is incredibly action packed for such a short audio & i also felt the steamy scene was... hot.
my only real complaint is that i would have preferred a little bit more smutiness and relationship development. i think if you're someone who really enjoys plot in their romance or if you're someone who is new to romance this would be a great one for you to pick up. i'm definitely interested in learning more about this future world & the side characters. overall, it's definitely worth your time.

The A.I. Who Loved Me is different than the normal romance books I read, but when I saw it was by Alyssa Cole, I knew I wanted to pick it up. Cole is a new to me author this year and I've fallen in love with her books.
Trininty works from home and lives a relatively quiet and boring life. She's recovering from an incident, and everything is going consistently fine until her new neighbor shows up. Li Wei is her neighbor's nephew and a bit.. odd. Li Wei's behavior isn't quite normal and Trinity can't put her finger on it at first. She's very attracted to him, but soon learns he's an A.I.
What I loved about this book the most is that it kept me guessing. Things weren't what they seemed and there were several twists and turns I didn't see coming. At the start of the book, I felt like it was a bit of information overload, but once I listened for a bit, I started to get into the groove of what was going on and I loved it.
I've read some fantasy or paranormal romance in my day, but I'm not sure that I've ever read a romance with robots, but I gotta say- I didn't hate it. In fact, I enjoyed it more than I imagined I would. It was highly entertaining and narrated by a great multi-cast of performers, but primarily by Regina Hill, who did an incredible job. It was such a fun book to listen to, due to it being so fast paced and gripping.
Alyssa Cole is such a talented writer and truly can write in any genre. I hope there are more books based in this 'world' because I would love for some of these secondary characters to get their own book! I definitely recommend the experience of listening to this on audible! It was fantastic, funny, romantic, and action packed.

It turns out that I'm a sucker for any kind of humanoid robot who spends the book discovering their humanity. I just loved watching Li Wei coming into his humanity. I will say that tonally this book takes a big turn in the last 20%, but I thought that added to the overall story. In general, I thought this was a really interesting take on Sci Fi romance

I listened to the Audible production of this book which was a real treat with multiple narrators, sound effects and voices.
The story is a science fiction romance between a human and an artificial intelligence made to look like a human. It's light on the science but surprise reveals and action keep the plot moving forward at a good pace.
Since I'm a science fiction aficionado, I felt this story could have done without the sex and cursing. For me, it detracted from the story. Part of the problem may have been that the narrator voice for Trinity Jordan sounded too young for those words and actions.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed the production and the story.

So I liked this one. I didn't love it but I thought it was a good overall listen. I didn't even think twice about giving this audiobook a try once I read the book's description. It just sounded so original that I just had to see what it was all about. I also often enjoy it when audiobooks use a full cast of narrators so this book had a lot of things going for it. I enjoyed this book and am glad that I decided to pick it up.
This story is set in the future and I really enjoyed all of the different "improvements" that were worked into the story. Trinity is recovering from an injury that has kept her in her apartment. She is able to work from home using a simulator to drive people around. She does have a couple of friends that periodically drop by and she is friendly with her neighbor. And then there is her neighbor's nephew, Li Wei.
Trinity and Li Wei end up spending quite a bit of time together. Li Wei is trying to act more human and his interactions with Trinity help him do that. Trinity believes that he is also recovering from an injury so she doesn't think too much about his strange behavior until he lets her know that he is an A.I. Even that doesn't seem to stop the pull they both feel for each other.
I really liked the originality of the story and thought that the descriptions of all of the basic things in Trinity's apartment were very well done. It did seem like there was more going on with the characters and I thought that it did make sense with everything was revealed. I wish that I would have been able to connect with the characters a bit more. I also didn't feel a lot of chemistry between the pair. It was an entertaining story but it was missing that something extra that would have made it great.
I thought that the audio production was very well done. I thought that each of the narrators did a fantastic job with their characters. I also thought that the sound effects that were worked into the story were a whole lot of fun. I would say that I enjoyed this book just a bit more because I was able to listen to the audiobook.
I would recommend this book to others and I think that a lot of listeners will enjoy it even more than I did. I wouldn't hesitate to read more from Alyssa Cole in the future.

I really enjoyed this fun scifi romance tale (read and performed by a full cast) featuring the heroine, Trinity Jordan, and her A.I. hero, Li Wei.
It came with much humour as well as some interesting and unexpected surprises.
I'm also looking forward to future reads/listens about some of the other characters that were introduced in this audiobook.

A while ago when I came across the preorder of THE A.I. WHO LOVED ME the first thing I noticed was the cute cover. As I've said previously, they are my weak spot and I fall for them every time. Then I read the blurb and I was intrigued but also a little skeptical how this could work. I have never read a book written by Alyssa Cole before but I know she's wildly popular so I was happy to give this a chance.
If you decide to pick this up, prepare to suspend your disbelief - the title says it all. We meet Trinity Jordan, a woman who has lost some of her memories in an incident that isn't quite clear in the beginning, and Li Wei, her strange neighbor who uses a weird speech pattern. From the start it is obvious that Li Wei isn't human but along the way his personality develops and we watch him fall in love with Trinity.
Alyssa Cole takes us on a journey into the future that may or may not become true. It is full of contemporary issues like climate change and the dehumanization of the world which I really appreciate. I think this story could have gone a lot deeper and longer with all the issues that were touched on. The sci-fi theme makes for an interesting background and it turns the story into something unexpected and surprising. I enjoyed this audiobook, shortness notwithstanding - it was smart, quirky total fun and a little trippy.
Regarding the narrators I was expecting a multi-cast narration and what we have here is a dual narration with some cameos with the characters of Li Wei and Trinity being the main protagonists to perform. Regina Hall and Feodor Chin did a fabulous job performing Trinity and Li Wei. Especially Li Wei's transformation was extremely well done!

So when I started listening to this story, I was like... ohhh kaaay. What's happening here. But the longer I listen, the more I liked it. In the end, I thought it was very good! Super cool and very sweet. A different take on Scifi for me and my first but definitely not last Alyssa Cole book. The narrators were very good. Happy reading/listening!

This (currently) audio-only book is an intriguing mix of Orwellian dark future and upbeat romance.
Trinity works from home as she slowly recovers from a traumatic accident with the help of her home AI and some caring friends. Her neighbor's nephew Li Wei has recently moved in next door and Trinity finds him as attractive as he is odd. Only the company that Trinity works for is the Hive, and she's essentially an indentured servant under constant surveillance. Li Wei is a biosynthetic humanoid that's been reprogrammed from his original fairly sinister purposes and who develops as a character and a person throughout, particularly as he develops his relationship with Trinity.
The world-building here is brilliant and provides a great backdrop to a surprisingly thorough science fiction story, not just a romance with an SF setting. What's going on with Trinity is at least as fascinating as Li Wei, and she's a fantastic unreliable narrator, and the author manages to keep what's happening a mystery long after other less skillful authors would have given the game away.
I'm very happy to see there will be more written in this world. It should be fascinating to see how things turn out. (Although I really hate this audio-first, print later thing. I like to have both available.)

This was...okay, enjoyable and entertaining but nothing about it really wowed me or made me love it. Definitely not like every other Alyssa Cole I've read. It wasn't really a disappointment either?? I don't know, it was just there I guess. The concept is good and I really liked the turn the story took as well as the sci-fi elements, it was good company while I was cleaning but I was fairly detached from anything happening.
That being said, the sound effects are very realistic, there was a loud explosion at one point and the panic attacks the MC was having spiked my anxiety lol, so definitely be aware o that if you want to listen to this one.

I tried my best to get through this audiobook but I just...didn't like it? I couldn't get into the story and felt Li-Wei was a little hard to like since he's a freaking robot!!! I don't buy this love and if you wanted to watch a tv show with the same concept, I recommend Holo My Love a Korean drama that literally is this plot minus the whole neighbor thing.

Did I restart my audible subscription (the worst, the bane of the world, so awful) just so I could listen to this delightful romance by one of my most favoritest romance authors?

It was a lot more dystopian and less cutesy than that cover promised, but I was delighted with that I got. It's so good. I loved Trinity. I loved Li Wei. I loved Tim and Penny and the whole host of other friends living in a building together with their lives dominated by the Hive and technology.

I wanted to enjoy this one but it fell flat. I don't get the point of multiple narrators. It would've been cool if they all consistently voiced their own characters but they didn't. And at parts Regina Hall was narrating like she was reading the phone book. Other times she really seemed into the story. The sound effects were pretty cool and added to the experience. I found myself so bored with the story though. It felt like nothing happened for half the book. The short legnth was to it's advantage but it still felt long.

This book was totally different than the Alyssa I’m used to, but I am on a mission to read all her books. This was cute. I’m not keen on an A.I. romance, but I never would’ve known this if I hadn’t given this a chance. The audio was amazing with all the extras. It felt like I was watching a tv show.

What a ride!!!
I’ve had this book sitting in my (ever growing) TBR pile because I loved the cover and the title. Come on, when has there ever been a romance about AI? Plus the MC was a Black woman? Sign me up!!! After finally getting to it (in a pledge I’ve made to myself to at least make an ATTEMPT to reduce my TBR pile) - I LOVED IT!!!!
It’s not overly long, but man does it pack a punch! I did not see the book going in the direction it was and honestly, I hope it has a book 2 because there are so many things I want to get closure on. Looking at you Penny, Dr. Zhang and Yana. As well as the future of Hive.
What did I enjoy about this book? Saying EVERYTHING would be such a cop out, but I liked a great many things. The characters, the little Easter eggs, the immersive storytelling, the dialogue between all the characters. Even the non human ones. Sidenote, I shall now be kinder to my microwave and other appliances. You never know when the day might arrive when they have my back in an attack from the terminator. Lol.
I loved Trinity and LW 017- I’m sorry, I mean, Le Wei. The way they learned from each other - more so him learning from her - and the cutesy moments they had with him saying things that made my heart flutter. *insert girlish giggling* Him being a biosynthetic humanoid was so well done. I didn’t forget he was, but it also didn’t take me out of the story and make the relationship weird. I was rooting for their love and I too got the hots for the ‘Bicentennial Man’ (IYKYK).
Penny and Le Wei’s interactions made me guffawed because Penny was so sassy. She definitely have a spicy Siri. That entire Reddit interaction had me proper wheezing. Thank you, Alyssa. That was comedic timing done well. Not too over the top or even over done.
The relief and feelings frustrations Trinity felt when she learnt that she was indeed not losing her mind and spiders were indeed the cause of a the minor issues- I felt it right with her. I wanted to reach through and give her a hug. She should see a therapist. Maybe Penny, as Penny will help her out now. Lol.

This is the first actual romance novel I’ve ever read - stuff like Kushiel’s Dart doesn’t actually count, as romance is its own genre. I read it specifically for Bingo, and picked this one because I am trying to do Hard Mode for as many books as I can and it’s the /r/Fantasy HEA (“Happily Ever After”) Book of the Month. I enjoyed it much more than I expected to, I’m happy to say.
(The sound you just heard is my dad experiencing an uncontrollable urge to scoff.)
This story is cute and fun. It’s set in a dystopian future, starring Trinity Jordan, an employee of a megacorporation that is the de facto United States government. She’s been recovering from a traumatic incident of some sort - we’re kept vague on the details - when she finds out that her elderly neighbor (also an employee of the megacorp) now has her nephew Li Wei living with her. Her distractingly hot, yet extremely socially awkward, nephew.
As we quickly learn (and the title tells us) he’s actually a biosynthetic AI. Things proceed from there, with Li Wei getting to know Trinity and romance blossoming. As I said, it’s cute and fun. Some suspension of disbelief is required. There’s a major twist that caught me totally by surprise, but looking back I’m kicking myself for not seeing something or other coming (the best kind of twist, in other words). And we get a happy ending (it is the “Happily Ever After” book club, after all).
My only complaint about the book is from the earlier sections, when Li Wei’s social interactions were still very, very awkward. There is moment after moment when he does something and Trinity has thoughts along the lines of “he’s so creepy … but so *hot*.” It kept putting me in mind of the Red Pill/Men’s Rights crowd and the tired notion they push that creepy behavior is ok if the creep is attractive, because after all females are shallow creatures who only care about looks, wealth, and status (/s, in case it wasn’t clear). Certainly not what the author was thinking about, but still. On a not-unrelated note, I give Cole serious props for addressing the problematic nature of a romance blossoming out of the sort of mentor/protégé relationship Li Wei and Trinity have, as she’s coaching him to act more human.
This was an Audible production originally, so I decided to listen to it rather than read it - a first for me. Up until now, I’ve used audiobooks exclusively for rereads. But this worked well on audio. They had a full cast narration, which included Mindy Kaling (obviously a good thing).
I give it a solid 4 stars overall. It wasn’t my favorite book ever, and I don’t expect to read much more romance (the sound you just heard was Dad sighing in relief), but I enjoyed this one.

This is a little weird for me, and to be perfectly honest I hovered between 2 and 3 stars, but... there is something fundamental that doesn't work here and so 2 it is.

I came to the last ten pages and I just gave up on this story. Because the "I don't care" was mounting so high in me that by the end I was like
And the weird thing is... it's not a bad book. It just doesn't work.
If I were to point a finger at the culprit, I'd say it's insta-lust. The whole book hinges on you believing in the romance between the two central characters, and that's not an easy thing to do. But it's damn near impossible when you make them instantly sexually attracted to each other. And if one of the characters is an A.I., on top of everything else, you have to make the reader overcome that feeling of
This you could do by making the reader understand the thoughts and emotions of the A.I. and then building the chemistry and trust between him and the female protagonist. You may think that by making them insta-lust you're jump-starting the process, but that's not how it works, in the same way that pouring pancake batter down your throat doesn't get you quicker pancakes.
The way the story is structured also doesn't help. The story of them actually falling in love happened in the past, only neither can remember it. So you meet them when they are both unconscious of the fact that they're former lovers. All they have is instant sexual attraction. I think Li Wei is in a different body this time, his personality had been transplanted, and we're supposed to believe that Trinity feels attracted to him because she's attracted to his personality. But when she first gets the hots for him she doesn't hear him speak, and frankly for the majority of the novel he has the personality of any other generic A.I. so I did not believe any of it.
By the final act, when Cole wants to amp the stakes and have them do feats of heroism for each other, I was just bored and annoyed.
I'm also unsure why the book is written in present tense. All of it, even her memories and flashbacks are in present tense. I think that contributed to the story falling flat.
It's a shame, I was actually really excited to read this.

For starters, it was really cute. It had my head spinning a few times, but it was cute. Confusing twists had occurred where you literally had to stop for a second and go, oh. That actually happened? Ya.
And the story went the completely opposite way that you would imagine it too. It was ALOT darker then what people would figure the cover suggests and has several trigger points I think readers need to be aware of. Definitely some sort of PTSD. Drug manipulation and so on.
I had also had this as an audio book and found the sound effects absolutely amazing in areas, but found myself sometimes really not liking the female voice actress. She lacked the emotion is some areas I would feel would need more, and over did it in others. Maybe it was a first for her, so I'd give it a 50/50.

This could have so been longer, and epic, and like a new favorite scifi epic if it had a little more 'page time' to nurture and grow some plot points. Still while it was confusing in the beginning to know you are missing something big and not realize from who, eventually you just kinda settle in for the ride and its awesome. And then they throw you for like 17 loops and you don't know what is up. Still it was different and fun and there was some hotness so I for sure would continue on in this world.

Y’all, the romance genre is WILD. Alyssa Cole has blown my mind once again! I mostly picked up this Audible original novella bc it’s Alyssa Cole (duh) and the all-star narration led by Regina Hall.
Besides the amazing narration and fantastic production, I went into this novella relatively blind. I knew it was about our heroine, Trinity and her strange new neighbor, Li Wei, who, based on the title, I was assuming was a cyborg or robot or something (unbeknownst to Trinity).
I expected this to be an adorable and quick novella about an A.I. learning to love - and it was that! But it was also so much more. Cole leans in to the world of futuristic sci-fi and I was here for it. I had to actually slow down the narration to learn about this dystopian world with robots, genetic modifications, government control, and quippy home A.I.s who happen to be voiced by Mindy Kaling. It was kind of like if Fahrenheit 451 and 1987 had a romance novel prequel.
This plot goes places. By the time I figured out where the novella was going, my mind was already blown! Absolutely masterful pacing. The underlying thread of tension simmers, and simmers, until suddenly our main characters and the reader are in boiling water and everything Cole has been building behind the scenes becomes clear. There are lots of twists and turns and by the end of the story, my adrenaline was pumping!.
As for the romance, it was fantastic! I mean, this is still an Alyssa Cole book. Li Wei and Trinity’s interactions were hilarious and often poignant. They were drawn to each other from the beginning and their chemistry was lovely.
I did knock off a star because there were a few confusing moments, I think mostly because of the technical, futuristic jargon. I also think some needed details about the world our characters lived in were left out for the sake of brevity. A full-length novel would not have gone amiss with a plot like this!
I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a unique romance. My library had the ebook, but I chose to download the audiobook from Audible!
