The Princess of Chaos

Rate this book
Once upon a time there was a princess...
But that’s where this fairytale ends
My castle was a compound,
My subjects - a bunch of rowdy bikers
And the villain of this tale was my father, the king.
When a brutal attack leaves me no choice but to flee, I find myself cast out and alone.
Six years later I’m dragged back to hell as nothing more than a pawn
But I’m not the same girl that ran
So I’ll play their game
But not by their rules
Because this time I won’t go down without a fight
It will take more than Knight’s on chrome horses to break me.
The Princess has returned
And it’s time to take back my crown.

Please be advised that this book may cause shallow breathing, exploding ovaries and spontaneous disintegration of panties. As a result, all readers should be over the age of 18 and refrain from reading in public places.

Trigger warning: This book contains swearing, violence and sexy fun times with not one but three bikers.

Spoilers ahead, 2.5 not quite 3 but rounded up nonetheless

We pick up where book 1 ended as this h volunteered to go with the men to solidify a truce between the two mcs.

The good
The h is a strong woman
The men are wonderfully possessive and protective
The sex was okish
That's all I've got lol

The not so good
Think of every bad thing you've ever heard about a mc and it's in here. The attitudes towards women are really disgusting though not as bad as book 1
The same issues over and over. One H was an asshole repeatedly
Everything and the kitchen sink was thrown in, I wouldn't have been surprised if some ninjas showed up that's how much shit was going down
Gross manwhores who'd slept with all the club women

Finishing this series is like an unstoppable train wreck, you're involved but all you can do is look on in horror 😂

At least
No cheating
No others after meeting the h
Lots of violence

Not sure why it took me so long to dive into this book but I'm so glad that I finally did.

The Princess of Chaos starts off right where the first book ended. I did love getting to see Luna once again and I'm kind of sad that's all I really got of her. Yet, I was really happy to dive into Megan's story because I just wanted to know the whole truth of what happened and who was hiding it.

Of course, that's not the only drama. People are very territorial in these MC gangs.. even if someone starts a new relationship. Then there's the whole, I only care about the club bullshit and not the people within it. Basically a lot of self-centered douche canoes are in these little gangs. Oh, and before I forget, there's also a character who thinks they are just the tits and smarter than everyone else in the world.

False, so false. I did enjoy all the karma that happened in this book though. Another thing about this book is that it flies by. I didn't think I actually read it until the next page was "the end". Maybe it's because these characters and the stories are just so addicting to read. It definitely becomes a page turner because I just want to know what is going to happen next.

In the end, I definitely enjoyed this book and I can't wait to dive into the next one!

This is an intense rating for me. I do not usually go straight to a 1-star, especially in mid-series books and ESPECIALLY in books that I actually finish. But this one was horrifying to me.

I AM NOT attempting to upset anyone who loved this book, please take this as my opinion that I am sharing for others who might need to know this information going into this series.

Disclaimer: I love MC romances. But I know they have serious issues. They are filled with extremely problematic tropes, consent blurring, and other elements that I find disgusting in real life and problematic in other fictional genres. But in the realm of *fantasy* and dark romances, I know what I'm getting and it's alright. I tend to stay away from the dark corners of the niche (the MC versions of Den of Vipers, etc.) but overall I get it and leave those parts alone in my reviews.

This one bothered me for days and I just can't let it slip by in my completed books without a low rating and a review.

I originally did not give this book a rating. I wasn't going to. But I just finished the third book in the series, The Reign of Kings, last night and it was so much better than this one and filled with less horrifying treatment of trauma plot lines that I feel like this book is a one-off and should be highlighted as such.

Spoilers.

This book involves 4 POVs - the female main character and the three MC biker men she's involved with. All of them get chapters from their points of view.

The female main character was sexually assaulted at a very young age and is now an adult with a lot of trauma responses and fear for the MC that hurt her in the past. The people who hurt her are dead, but the MC club is still active and she has a fear of bikers. This plot point is the CENTRAL FOCAL POINT of the story. I'm yelling it for the people in the back as it's not a one-and-done backstory that is then ignored for the romance—it's brought up all the time. It's one of her defining character traits.

If it had been brought up and then forgotten, then I'd have chalked up the rest of the book to bad plot devicing and then enjoyed the heck out of it.

But the three MC bikers in her life...who are the leaders of the SAME MC that assaulted her and abused her in her childhood... invalidate her trauma for the entire book. Yeah, they know about it and they "help" her work through it. I guess. The author tries to shove that truth at us via telling us how they're helping her all the time. But—they push her into having sex with them, they refuse to let her slowly come to terms with them in her life at her own pace. They force her to sleep in the same beds as them (when she has nightmares and can't handle being touched at night??), she's deaf and they force her to "trust them" enough to speak in front of them—when it's been one of her trauma responses to not use her speaking voice until she fully trusts the person. They manipulate her with her sexual responses to their bodies so that she allows them more control over her personhood.

This isn't as bad as a LOT of MC romances out there, I know. This genre is Dark with a capital D. But the author refused to let us forget about this woman's trauma and serious issues as a result of her childhood assault, and therefore I couldn't help but be triggered for the entire book by the emotional an mental assault waged on this woman by her own "love interests." We were hit over the head with how traumatized this woman was (NOT an issue, but it was continuously mentioned and therefore I could not let that boundary line fade in my head) and then in the SAME CHAPTERS we watched three adult men—of the club that assaulted her—blur the lines of consent, ignore her trauma, and push into her physical and mental boundaries until she just folded for them and then all was good apparently.

How was I supposed to find this romantic, at all???

Like I said, the other books in this series are more standard MC books. There is nothing even close to this type of reader-gaslighting of trauma and then invalidation. If you're like me, feel free to skip this one and go straight to The Reign of Kings. Much better story and you don't need the plot of this one to get into it.

This was an incredibly difficult read for me. The author wrote a book about a person with a hearing disability & proceeds to take away her “voice” by having the romantic interests force her to accommodate to them. They show no interest in learning her language (sign language) & expected her to read their lips. This wasn’t ok. I wish the author had done more research on the hearing disabled. It’s like she wants to get “points” for having a MC with a disability without having to deal with said disability. By the end of the story romantic interests learn a few paltry phrases due to a temporary impairment caused by trauma. If people who are romantically interested in a person with a disability treats them this way I’d not be surprised the disabled wouldn’t save themselves & just actively avoid entanglements with “normal” people. Shameful representation.
2.5 stars

The Princess of Chaos was unbelievably amazing that I ignored my family the whole day just to finish it. Megan was so damn strong even after everything she went through in her life and she always came back swinging just a fierce. She doesn’t bend to a mans will they now bow down to her and the three in her life now found that out the hard way. I absolutely can’t express how much I loved this book and highly recommend it if you have started this series do so now.

I am really enjoying this world of ruthless characters, hidden truths and so far fairly feisty FMCs. I was intrigued by the Chaos Demons ever since finishing the first book, so getting a glimpse into Viper's, Zero's and Grim's world was rather thrilling. Now, Megan has her own demons to tackle as she is thrown back into the place that caused her so much heartache. However, the undeniable attraction to the broody gentlemen seems to give her a different perspective as to the life she could have.
There is tension, slight angst, heavy plotting within the MC itself and of course quite the love story to keep you on your toes.

Knocked it out the park

I absolutely love this series. If you are not reading it something is wrong with you and you should rectify it by picking up this series.

This book picks up where book 1 ended and is from a different characters POV. Megan is my freaking spirit animal. She has it all and I couldn't get enough. To be in the situation she is in she handled it like a freaking pro. We get the chance to see many fimiliar faces from book 1 that you know and love. It ends on a cliffy that alludes to what/who the next book might be about.

Can't wait for more. Candace knocks it out of the park once again

Honestly, I think I like this book more than the first one! Megan is freaking inspiration, I love her so much! This Club Princess knows what is going on and she can stand on her own, even if it seems as if she is weak. I loved seeing her gain her strength and really show all that she had in her. This world is freaking insaneeeee and I love it. Viper, Grim, and Zero are not perfect, but man I love how freaking loyal they are to her from the very beginning. I am such a freaking sucker for that! It really keeps you wondering what is going to happen next!

Gritty awesome story!

Love the follow up to the Queen of Carnage! The story of Megan is so very heartbreaking but love how her guys help her heal. There’s a bunch of potentially triggering scenes but makes for such a powerful story. Love Zero!

Ok, seriously, how can you not love this girl? And these guys?!? This all starts where we left off with Queen and it starts quickly. I love how honest and strong Megan is especially with how difficult her life has been. All of these characters have their hands full with so many issues but it’s great to see the clubs come together and have all the characters from the last book be a part of this one. Cleaning house isn’t easy, but it’s perfect that the guys know that Megan and their club is worth it. I love this series.

"She wasn’t looking for a knight, she was looking for a sword"

"It's not hard to surprise people when they have a tendency to underestimate you. I guess, in a way, it's better than being placed upon a pedestal. I‘ve always been viewed as the lowest of the low, so I had no expectations placed on me, except my ability to fail. With nowhere to fall from, the only option I had was to go up. That suited me just fine because I climbed out of the pit they pushed me into and when I got up there, I waved down at the fuckers from my castle in the sky."

Good, but not as good as the first one. The FMC is still annoying but unlike the first book FMC, this one did not grow on me.

Awk this was so good! Not quite as funny as the 1st mind you but good all the same. I loved Megan from the 1st book & knew she was kickass ❤️ I’ll write a proper review tomorrow. I’m sooo tired, I was stupidly awake at 3.30am reading another book & then my husband woke up & gave me into trouble for staying awake for that long, apparently I need my sleep 😴 and if I stay up that late again he’ll not be so sympathetic when I complain that I’m so tired 😂😂😂 he means well 🥰🙄😂😂😂 can’t wait to start on the next book in the series 👏🏼

Tough review to write. The writing itself was very well done. The book was hard to put down. I have a personal challenge reading MC or other genres where woman are treated as slaves or 2nd class. While the h has some bada$$ moments it was still hard to read certain scenes.

I have mixed feelings about this second chapter in the Underestimated series.
The story isn't as funny as the first one, given Megan past, but still it had its moments. It was obviously hot, because three big dangerous bikers who are crazy about a girl?!
How can it not be steamy?!
And i liked it but....
I felt like there were too similarities with the first one, while some things were dragged out.
However once i started losing interest the author was throwing there some new twist and i was once again hooked. Like the revelation at the end of the book?! I mean WTF!!!

I don’t really know how i feel about Megan, Viper, Zero and Grim....
Viper was a major a$$ole too many times, and Megan went from a scared bunny to a confident badass in a second.... So i don't really know what to think.
What i liked was Megan relationship with Luna' brothers and with Wyatt.
Protectiveness is always my weak spot.

It's undoubtedly a good series but i don’t think binge reading it is the best idea. Maybe reading something totally different in between could make me enjoy it more.
I guess we will see what happens with the other chapters.

Ps. i finally understood many of the things i didn't when i read tainted oath (Wyatt story). But i didn't connect the dots until the end 🙈🤦‍♀️

**Trigger Warning ** attempted rape, violence

Great continuation of the Carnage/Chaos MC world we were introduced to in the first book. This series is the first time reading this author and I am really enjoying her writing style.
I adored Megan and her take no shit attitude, even in the face of her greatest fear. I love how strong the woman are in this world ruled by men that Candace has created. Still a very fast pace, fast burn story, but we are starting to see the bigger picture and the connections and intricacies of all the players.
As I'm writing this review, I have just finished the 3rd book and I can say that they just keep on getting better. The 4th book will be out in just a few weeks, in the meantime I will be reading the 2 spinoffs
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

This series is slowly becoming my new obsession and I’m 100% okay with that.
I was so excited for Megan’s story as she was in the first book we got a few glances into her life there. I admired her strength and bravery after all she went through, and continued to go through, she never quit. When she agreed to go with Viper and Zero, I’m not sure what I was expecting but they shocked me. They were sweet to only her and were all about making sure she finally got the protection she always should have had, and slowly learning to trust one another. I won’t lie, I was on the fence about Grim at first, but the way him and Megan immediately had a connection slowly won me over. There were so many twists and turns I didn’t see coming, I feel like I went through just about every emotion while reading. There’s honestly so much more I could say but I don’t want to give anything away.

On to book three!

Omg im fangirling so bad about Megan (FMC) right now!!!! Shes is a bad*** take no crap character an i just loved her!!!

Megan ends up up in the Chaos Demons MC after being taken to build bridges between them and her brother MC - Carnage. She is anything but an easy going girl for them though and she makes sure they all know it too. Megan has so many layers to her character which all stems from everything that has happened to her in her life. One thing is her going deaf which she sees as a bonus not a disability (which i loved the most about her). Her relationship dynamic with Viper, Zero and Grim started off tentatively. Mainly because they didnt know how to handle her. Well the guys did but Megan was full on all the way through. Still together they were smoking hot!! I loved Luna's book (book 1) but Megan's just killed it for me. I just cant praise this book and series up enough. It was just too good a read

The Princess of Chaos picks up from book 1. Megan is back at Chaos MC to bring peace to both MC. But Chaos is where her childhood nightmares beginning. Viper, Zero, and Grim feels a instant connection with her. They are protected over her and not just because she is deaf. She can kick butt when she needs to. Their journey is any emotional but also has lots of drama and secret. They might have took her for peace but she was what they and their MC family need. And their ending is incredible.

Not quite as good as Queen of Carnage, so more like 4.5. Luna just had a different kind of fight in her compared to Megan. I loved that that Megan, the FMC, was deaf but fiercely independent. This starts immediately after the end of book 1 and I wouldn't recommend reading this without reading book 1

Ripped my heart out and made me laugh, too. The guys were over the top, but she was more than capable. I swear there's a moment toward the end that just about gutted me and I felt her pain and confusion--not to mention her thrill at the end. Fantastic read.

Did they buy five star reviews?

I’m utterly shocked at the offensive, problematic crap I just read. I can’t believe the author thought that writing something like this was ok and then all these people gave it five stars. Honestly, it’s really crushing my belief that representation was getting better.
I’m not going to discuss any of the editing or continuity errors from this book to the first but they are there. Particularly towards the end.
Megan is deaf after losing her hearing in an attack. I was so incredibly stoked to be reading a book with some disabled representation. Then I started reading and I realized the author has no idea what it means to be deaf. She didn’t do her research, she didn’t talk to anyone, she didn’t get a sensitivity reader or a deaf reader, it’s all horribly offensive and the romantic interests are not forgivable.
Megan uses sign language but her love interests don’t know sign language and have absolutely no interest in learning. Instead she reads their lips, as long as they are facing her she can follow along with everyone in the conversation no problem, just like she can hear! That is not how lip reading actually works, only hearing people think it works that way and the deaf community hates this misrepresentation in media.
For her to talk back to them, since they don’t know sign language, she writes to them on a pad, however, they decide that they don’t want her writing and want her to use her “real” voice so they TAKE HER PAD AWAY AND HANDCUFF HER SO SHE CAN’T SIGN OR WRITE AND TELL HER THEY WONT RELEASE HER UNTIL SHE TELLS THEM TO WITH HER VOICE. Are you kidding me?? These are our love interests??? How is this in any way redeemable??? Sign language IS her language. She communicates with her hands. You want to communicate with her you are going to need to adjust and work a little harder at it, how dare you literally steal her voice from her. This is supposed to be like flirty and cute? It’s in no way flirty, cute or ok. Then they tell her they are going to undress her unless she tells them to stop, she signs for them to stop and no and they say, nope! I’ll only accept the no if you use your real voice! Are you kidding me??? Not everyone that is deaf speaks, they have no idea if she has gone through the YEARS of speech therapy to communicate with them, they have no idea if this is something she is comfortable with or wants to do in any way! A lot of deaf people actively choose not to use their voice, never even going to speech therapy in the first place. Then she gives in and excepts it when she talks out loud and it’s just fine, except like twice when she was louder then intended there aren’t any issues. She has no problem speaking and don’t even mind that they forced her to do this even though she was initially horrified. They repeatedly bring up how she only gives people her voice if she trusts them, how it took years for her to speak to her best friend. The male leads keep bringing up how this shows that she really does trust and care about them, it’s like the author is trying to force you to believe what she wants rather then actually work at having it make sense.

Several of the reviews talk about how they give a good voice to consent, GIRL WHERE??? They force her to go with them in the first place, I guess she could have chosen to go to war instead? That’s not really a choice. They take her voice and give her no choice. They decide she is their old lady, literally the day after they meet, and they don’t give her a choice or even tell her they are going to do it even though it’s a life long commitment. Their friend molest’s her and they are just like, well he was drunk, he didn’t know what he was doing or mean it, and we punched him for it so it’s fine, you’ll sleep with us from now on it’s fine. What??? She gets no choice on whether or not she sleeps with them and actively doesn’t want to! They kiss her and give her no choice, when she hits one of them for doing so he says he’s going to hit her back if she fights back again. They force her to undress in front of them, they force her to sleep naked with them.
I assume they are talking about one scene where she’s like, none of you understand consent! After once again being horrible? But like, nothing actually comes of it and it doesn’t redeem anything that happened.
Then the guy that molest’s her is another love interest?
There’s literally no reason for us to like the male leads or for her to like them but the attraction is already there? Why??? It doesn’t make any sense that she would like them.
I love enemies to lovers stories but you have to make me believe in the romance, you have to make the couples redeemable and believable as a couple. This is just abusive nonsense with convenient disability sprinkled in.
Except for at the end of the book when she’s hurt, she basically isn’t deaf after the first few chapters.
Give the book to someone knew, cut out the first couple chapters and don’t tell them that she’s deaf and that person would never know. She lip reads and talks just like it’s regular conversation. Doesn’t matter how many people are in the conversation, if they are behind her, upside down, she follows everything just fine, even inflection.
