Tik Tok made me do it. What a phenomenal book and new to me author. This Cruel Love is an enemy to lover's romance. Read the triggers; they’re some dark undertones. This is Ryley and Jackson’s story.
Ryley comes home after university to resume her life with her long-term boyfriend Justine, only to find out he has dirty secrets of his own. This part is not glossed over, and I love that the author went into great detail about it. Ryley is a strong independent woman; I am shocked she put up with Justine's crap. Buy then we wouldn't have a book.
When Ryley finds out he owes money, what do you do? Why you go to the devil himself, who he owes money: Jackson Caine, my new book boyfriend. He is one intense man and hot af. Jackson makes a deal to settle this debt but has an underline motive behind it. Ryley is smart and questions it, and she isn't shy to say how it is. The verbal sparring between the two is impressive.

Some more secrets are reveals and take off from there. Jackson is by her side, and neither is prepared for their feelings; I started to get bangxiety at 50%, but that changed shortly after.
“There’s no amount of soap and water that can clean up my dirty thoughts,” he growled.
“Always so wet, so ready for me. I love that.” He pushed a finger inside me then pulled it out.
I really love this book, and it's jam-packed with action, drama, betrayal, heartbreak, and love. I love the authors writing style and wasn't afraid to him into great detail, and not once did she gloss over anything. Plus, it checked off so many boxed for me. It's a must-read book.

'This Cruel Love' is my first book from Nikki J. Summers. It's a story about revenge, hurt feelings, betrayal and finding love amongst all this chaos. I really enjoyed the first half of the book. It had my on the edge of my seat right from the get go. I had no idea where the plot was going to lead. I loved the relationship that grew between Ryley and Jackson. Their playful banter had me grinning from ear to ear. They go from can't-stand-each-other-enemies to can't-be-without-each-other-lovers. Jackson was so freaking hot. I just loved his sweetness, even when he didn't realize he was being adorably sweet. I also loved the secondary characters, especially Cillian. I wouldn't mind reading more about him.
Apart from Ryley's idiotic decisions, I really enjoyed the overall storyline of this book. The mini war they had going on at the beginning was hilarious 'cause they both were heavy-headed and stubborn. There were many good steamy parts too. I could totally see how they both complemented each other. The pace of the book wasn't rushed and the story wasn't too dark except for some violence and murder. I wouldn't really consider it a mafia book but more like gangsters. Anyway, for lovers of a good enemies-to-lovers-trope, I would recommend this book.

i didn’t know this was Jax and Ryley story going in. i read Cillian’a book a few months back and I forgot I wanted to read about this couple. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was okay.
at first i was cringing HARD at how Rye acts all tough against drug dealers like “yeah ill set a plan to pay them don’t worry” LIKE GIRL???? she didn’t know them, i was expecting hard core drug dealer shit and she was acting like THAT??? she stupid lmao.
i ended up enjoying once we got past that. I actually adored Jax. The transitions between each scene and feeling were choppy, which made the experience a bit unfulfilling.
there were a lot of stuff that bothered me though, like:
- what about the charity?
- Rye went through some trauma and it.. didn’t.. affect her.. in ANY way????? mmm everyone deals differently with trauma but come on.
- Nate situation... mad af. They all deserved to know. Fck all of them.
and a few other details i can’t remember but made me be like: 😐

This Cruel Love is about the road to love being more than a little bit rocky.
This story had me devouring the pages, non-stop.
Ryley has a boyfriend named Justin at the beginning of this book. They have been together for several years, but Justin has secrets and he has hidden some dirty habits from Ryley.
Ryley seemed weak with Justin. A pushover and always willing to do Justin’s bidding for him. Well, let me just say that Ryley absolutley smashes that perception to pieces when she meets Jackson Caine.
On meeting him she turns into this witty, fiery, independent woman, and I absolutley loved her.
What can I say about Jackson Caine other than he had my heart from the moment that he appeared. Even when he’s trying to be an ass, there is this magnetic pull towards him.
Ladies, Jackson Caine is going right up there with my ultimate book boyfriends. Seriously hot!
Ryley and Jackson certainly don’t have an easy time of it. There’s drama, uncertainty, upset, heartbreak and an absolute rollercoaster of emotions to be had on this ride. These characters are written perfectly, and there isn’t one thing I would change about them.
This is my FAVOURITE book written by Nikki J so far.
It’s going to stay with me for a long time, and for fans of her previous book Luca, you are in for an absolute treat 😉
This gets the whole 5 stars.

Wow. Such an in-depth, intense yet fluid read.
Being my first read by Nikki J Summers I can say that it was a pleasure to dive into. From the start it creates the setting of where the story will lead to and what secrets will be hidden.
I loved meeting Ryley and her showing how strong and independent she is. She is a great character that didn't let anyone man or woman try to control her in anyway. She stands on her own two feet and although her big trusting heart makes her hurt further down the line you understand where she stands.
Jackson is another great character. He was brooding and rude at the start which is understandable for his position. However as the story moves and there are compromises made we get to see another part of him. A softer side that immediately makes you latch onto.
There's a few intense scenes so it should be read with caution. However if you've read books like Mafia series or dark romances then it'll be your cup of tea.
It's a wonderful read. There were a lot of twists I didn't see coming and was happy with that and the outcomes. The ending was beautiful too and I'd love to read more from these characters and the author in the future.

I was given an advance readers copy of this book and have decided to write a voluntary honest review. This was my very first book by this author and I have to tell you I was extremely nervous, but I honestly didn't need to be. I couldn't put this book down I swear it's like Jackson presence captured me and didn't let me go till the end. Even now I'm still thinking about him. Jackson is a lot to handle but once you have captured his attention and he likes you let's just say your pretty much spoken for. Ryley I swear I love this girl I love her sass she doesn't put up with b's. She's truly amazing. Now I have to resd chole and Lucas story.

La verdad esperaba una historia totalmente diferente, no sólo por la sinopsis sino por el prólogo y sólo obtuve a una Ryley que intentó ser valiente y de armas tomar y resultó ser una niña mimada, que vivió en la sombra de la verdad de su familia, en el país de nunca jamás, donde literal nunca jamás maduro.
De Jackson realmente esperaba si no a un hombre desalmado por lo menos a alguien con más "carácter" por ser alguien que vino de un mundo nada amable y obtuvo su dinero y posición por cosas no del todo buenas, no sé alguien como Luca por ejemplo, aunque su historia de superación queriendo hacer algo por lo que padeció su padre fue significativo, no le dieron la suficiente fuerza dentro de la historia, una lástima.
Si bien es cierto que el amor entre los dos fue "lindo e incondicional" , que traspaso el tiempo y los conflictos familiares, sin embargo por la falta de fuerza en ambos personajes no logro enamorarme.

I am so glad i got to read this amazing story! Jackson is definitely added to my book boyfriend list 😂 Dark, Moody, and Mysterious but also so strong and courageous even though life wasn't easy he became a better man from it.

Yes!!!! OMG you guys!!! I've finished This Cruel Love story and I'm emotionally wrecked. Author nailed it with this book. It was an enemies to lovers trope, real cruel love, full of angst and unexpected twists and turns. It was a wild ride, total rollercoaster. I've got a huge hangover after reading it.
Do you believe in destiny?? Do you believe that everything in your life has a purpose, strong meaning that will affect your whole life??
Ryley Emerson was a young and beautiful woman. Happy in a long lasting relationship with her high school sweetheart. When she was coming back home after collage and was planning future with Justin, she didn't expect that her world will break apart.
Suddenly the ruthless and dangerous Jackson Caine appeared in her life, turned it up side down, sucked her into agreement where there was not much she could've done to save herself at that point of her life. Or at least that's what she thought so!
Jax was an owner of the night club. He was an alpha male full of self-confidence, rough and arrogant attitude. He was also a very private man, didn't allow people to come to close to him.
Author had totally surprised me with this character. When I dove deeper into the story, I've notice his hidden nature but you need to read it to understand real Jax.
Together they were like fire and gasoline.
Sometimes I wanted to shake them so badly out of their behavior. At times I wanted to throw my Kindle against the wall when I didn't see the way for their HEA.
I couldn't predict what's coming next. All twists and turns in their story lead me trough the maze of unknown and I was craving more and more. Book was getting better with every next chapter. Author accelerated a pace in the second part of the book and put some amazing surprises that from that moment on I couldn't put it down.
I was so emotionally touched with the ending that few lonely tears slid down my cheeks.
I highly recommend this heartbreaking but beautiful romance story.

A wild, sexy, and, at times, scary ride that I loved every minute of
Can you imagine coming home from finishing college only to find out your fiancé is now apparently a drug addict that is deeply in debt to some sort of crime boss/loan shark? That’s exactly where Ryley finds herself, and at first leaving Justin isn’t even an option for her. So what does she do? She goes to negotiate with the bad guy. My first thought was … seriously? It seemed either insanely naïve or suicidal, or both. But mostly it didn’t make much sense to me. Though it was early in the story. And as I got to know Ryley, it made a whole lot more sense. And as I got to know the bad guy, or not so bad guy, as it happens, Jackson Caine … well, let’s just say things not only made a lot of sense from his perspective, but there was a whole lot more to him than meets the eye.
Now, we’re not just talking enemies to lovers here, though I don’t want to spoil anything. But that part was delicious, steamy, and totally satisfying too. No, there was a whole lot more at play here and more than enough twists and turns to keep you flipping pages relentlessly, wondering what the heck was going to happen next. It was a rollercoaster of dipping down into horrifying, terrible events that made my stomach turn to rising to soaring and sexy highs that made it all worth it. In the end it was a wild, sexy, and, at times, scary ride and I can’t freaking wait for Cillian’s story.

Great book!!! It wasn’t too sweet and it wasn’t too dark - it was just right and just what I needed to read today! I’m pretty sure I found my newest book boyfriend in Cillian (not the MC 🤷🏻♀️)

La historia apenas empezo me hizo acordar a la película, una propuesta indecente pero mas "oscura". Entonces me parecio interesante.
Pero los primeros caps, riley, actuaba raro. Cuando la amenazan con cierta situación, ella se transformó comp en wonder woman y fue muy irreal. Porque justamente nadie reaccionaría asi. Entonces eso logro que hasta me riera en algunas escenas. Cuando creo que no era el fin....
El tema del pasado de Jackson me gusto. pero lo dejaron en segundo plano.
Travis me parecio un hermano de mierda. El final de justin fue raro, lo de chloe, ed, no se. Para mi resolvieron todo raro. Todo muy pelicula de acción tipica estadounidense.
El romance estuvo bien. Normal. Jackson es un amor de hombre!
Pero nada, me falto, la historia comenzo bien pero a partir de la mitad, cayo en picada!
La historia apenas empezo me hizo acordar a la película, una propuesta indecente pero mas "oscura". Entonces me parecio interesante.
Pero los primeros caps, riley, actuaba raro. Cuando la amenazan con cierta situación, ella se transformó comp en wonder woman y fue muy irreal. Porque justamente nadie reaccionaría asi. Entonces eso logro que hasta me riera en algunas escenas. Cuando creo que no era el fin....
El tema del pasado de Jackson me gusto. pero lo dejaron en segundo plano.
Travis me parecio un hermano de mierda. El final de justin fue raro, lo de chloe, ed, no se. Para mi resolvieron todo raro. Todo muy pelicula de acción tipica estadounidense.
El romance estuvo bien. Normal. Jackson es un amor de hombre!
Pero nada, me falto, la historia comenzo bien pero a partir de la mitad, cayo en picada!

This book keeps you wondering what the hell could happen next?!! Between the plot twists and loathing Jackson in the beginning for what he does, you will not be disappointed. And don’t even get me started on the sexy as sin Cillian….phew. I cannot wait to read that man’s story!
Ryley goes from planning a blissful life with her longtime love, after graduating college, to one nightmare after another straight to the end. When you think this woman can’t go through any more shit, things get even darker and more twisted.
If you like a page turner book with a whole lot going on, read this one. The author did a good job weaving everything together. I look forward to her next book.

What a captivating story!
This book is extremely well-written. It's filled with plot twists and has lots of sensual, steamy scenes. Aside from the extremely complicated backstory and all of the surprising reveals - they just keep coming - my favorite part of this story was the evolution of the relationship between Ryley and Jackson, two complicated and well-developed characters.
My feelings toward Jackson vacillated throughout the book. He was attractive, no doubt about that, but at times I found him selfish. I empathized with his history, though. He did not become who he was without reason (none of us do) and the author does a great job of integrating his past into who he is in the present. Perhaps, this is one of the greatest strengths of this story and why I couldn't stop reading. The past and present merge, making interesting and multidimensional characters. And it doesn't stop there. The past is densely woven into the plot in ways you will never see coming, and make for a thoroughly engaging narrative.
Highly recommended for romance readers, especially for those who love romantic suspense and added family drama.

Another beautiful story by Nikki J. Summers. This Cruel Love was wonderfully written, gripping from the very beginning and a perfect enemies to lovers romance. Told from dual POV this book had the right amount of anticipation, build-up, and tension to keep my interest until the last page.
All that Jackson Cain wanted was revenge for his father's death. He grew up on the street and slowly managed to get out of the gutter and make a name for himself in the underworld. He became arrogant and a little cruel, but not too much to be annoying. He was so much more than I’ve initially thought he will be. He kept a tough exterior because he didn't trust people, but beneath his armour, he was such a gentle soul.
Ryley was an endearing character, sweet, kind, considerate and so much fun. She was a genuinely good person, a refreshing, relatable character. I think what I loved most about her was the way she pushed Jackson's buttons. She could be one tough cookie when the situation required it. I loved their banter so much, made me smile and grin so many times as the story progressed. The sexual tension between these two was combustible and when they finally got together they were on fire. Also, the secondary characters were complex and very well presented. I must say I'm such a Cillian fan right now. I hope there will be a story about him, he was an absolute delight.

Not for me...
This review is a little complicated to type out... When I first started this story I was sold, hook, line and sinker and then it lost me.
It seems the author took a bit of a few romance tropes out there and voila here we have This Cruel Love. I can "ignore" reality because, duh, this is fiction but, there are many, many plotholes and serious storyline issues that left me with one question too many.
I really didn't like the main characters, I kept reading in hopes that that would change, I'm sad to say it didn't.
Ryley was very wishy-washy. One minute she's in love with one sucky guy and then she's in love with this other "shy" (gosh we were told so many times he was shy), "bad" guy.
Jackson ugh, where do I even start? He was hot and cold, up and down. I swear the guy gave me whiplash.
Anyway, I tried to like this story but, it wasn't for me, sadly. And now I'm still searching for a great read.

It was difficult to tear myself away from this book at times; it certainly ticks all the boxes. The build up to Ryley and Jackson’s relationship is thoroughly engaging with a great backstory, dark moments and lots of twists and turns. The characters are well written, and although Ryley comes off a bit weak at first she grows stronger as the story develops. As for Jackson...YUMMY!!! I like a tough man who loves deeply, and the hot and steamy scenes are on fire. This is the first book I’ve read by this author but I’ll definitely be checking out the rest. Loved it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

i LOVED this book. From the moment i started to the moment it ended i was hooked. I loved the small disney snippets in there, and could feel a beauty and the beast vibe.
Nikki, you done such an amazing job. I was gobsmacked in some bits and was like 'oh god' but mate, Nikki, i was obsessed.
I loved Riley and Jaxon so much, i was rooting for them from the start and I am so glad it all worked out in the end, through all their ups and downs.

I could not stop reading this book!!
I loved Jackson, he is shy, stubborn, possessive and protective. He is book boyfriend material!!!
Ryley is loyal, strong, determined, loving but really naive. I like her in the second half of the book when she wasn't so blinded by her relationship with Justin before I just could not handle her being so closed-minded.
It took Ryley breaking and reaching finally opening her eyes for me to truly love her!!
She is everything, she fights for what she believes in, knows her worth and will never let anyone speak down to her. She has dark times and watching her pick herself up and grab happiness is beautiful.
I loved Jackson, he is a typical alpha male but he would do anything for Ryley especially when she is down a dark path. He won my heart, there are so many layers to him that I just want to know more about him.
Overall, I didn't know how I would feel about this book but it was so much better than I imagined.

After falling in love with Nikkis writing in a previous series I just knew I had to jump into these books as I love the angsty darker reads....and after devouring Luca I wasn't sure I could fall in love with any of her heroes any more than him, then along comes Jackson Freaking Caine and knocks me right off my feet!!!!
This man broke my heart and then slowly put it back together again one swoon worthy word at a time! 😍
So as we know this is an Enemies to Lovers read... so you go in thinking you know how it's going to go but this story is that and SO much more too!
Jammed packed with punches here there and everywhere this story grabbed my heartstrings and pulled tightly.
Jackson and Ryley have a past... a past she remembers nothing about...and Jackson has plans to hurt her and her family.. but what happens when Ryley pyshes into his club one night putting her foot down and demanding help?? I'll tell you what.. love..hysterical banter... firework like chemistry and some severe hotness in one big amazing story.

I found this author on Tiktok and I don’t regret it. I can’t read enough of her works. This is a fantastic story of Jackson & Ryley and it’s perfect. Interesting, fast paced and exciting without plot holes or repetitive writing. Hilarious use of pop culture phrases along with a constantly forward moving plot make this an excellent read.

This book has been sat on my bookshelf for far too long, why did it take me so long to finally read it?
There was me, thinking that Cillian was my number one, well... Jackson Caine just came and blew him out of the water, though Cill will always hold a special place in my heart.
Ryley and Jackson's story is now by far one of my favourites. I stayed up so late last night because I couldn't bring myself to stop reading. That shit's addictive.
Their love for each other is soul-deep and electric, it bleeds off of every single page. Their story makes me believe in true love and finding that one person who lights you up. I'm still searching for my Jackson...
They've both had to endure a ton of shit in their lives, and they were both what each other never knew they needed. They were each other's happy place.
God, there is so much I want to say about this book but there aren't enough hours in the day! I absolutely devoured this book and it's gonna take a long time for me to escape this book hangover.
Nikki's writing is so immersive that I become lost in her words, and before I know it, I'm at the epilogue not wanting it to end.
Nikki, you have destroyed me in the best way. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.
