The Mandalorian: Allies & Enemies book is geared towards ages 2 to 4. Written by Brooke Vitale and illustrated by Tomatofarm (Tommaso D'Alessandro) the short children’s book is designed to help junior readers (grades 1 to 2) learn simple storylines, compound sentences, and contractions. It does a great job summarizing the first season of The Mandalorian and features a sweet message about making friends (allies) and dealing with enemies like Moff Gideon.
I was particularly fond of the fact that Dr. Pershing was highlighted in the story, however, I was disappointed that the story failed to highlight Omera or Fennec. Particularly Fennec considering she returned in the second season and is one of the two leads in the recently announced Book of Boba Fett. Not to mention Fennec is played by Ming-Na Wen — a literal Disney princess!
Overall, it’s a great introduction to The Mandalorian for young readers and it comes with some cute stickers. The book also features a lexicon at the back to further assist readers as they learn new words and concepts.
I think I enjoyed this a little less than Star Wars: The Mandalorian: A Clan of Two, mostly because this runs through the cast of characters and isn't really a story as much as a roster. As someone who hasn't seen the show it was kind of confusing, and I really don't remember many characters that were covered.
This book uses large print and images to give brief summaries of characters from Disney's The Mandolorian Season 1. While presented as a graded reader (World of Reading Level 2, Grades 1 to 2), this book has some unnecessarily difficult vocabulary and sentence structures. For example, "IG-11 is not permitted to be caught" and "vows to let no harm come to the Child - even if that means giving his own life."
This was a simple introduction to world of The Mandalorian for children, as well as being a brief recap of season one of the very popular series. I think it will help young readers to become acquainted with the great characters of the story. There are also two pages of stickers for those children that want to place their favorite characters from the series wherever they can. Cute book.
Interesting to read a synopsis of The Mandalorian (season 1) that removes the scary parts. (Still plenty of weapons on display tho.) This would not only be a good book to give a child obsessed with the Mandalorian but also an adult who doesn't want to watch the show but would like some idea of what you are obsessing over. :)
"Includes stickers!" *heart* And a vocabulary list!
So, rather advanced for an easy reader. If a child is familiar with Star Wars, and specifically the Mandalorian, they would probably be familiar with not just the characters, but the words as well.
Fun little book with brief synopsis of each character.
