Well, well, well.

Love me a spy MC especially one who is a bit of a troublemaker, who takes unnecessary risks, who is really good at his job and always always drives his handlers up the wall because he’s just so damn difficult. Matteo is exactly that agent. However, when he’s partnered with Nikolas, Matteo quickly realizes that he’s not going to take any of his shit and that for sure, Nikolas is the one who’s actually in charge.

What unfolds is some really delicious UST, sublimely subtle until it’s not. The dynamic evolves as Nikolas becomes the calming grounding presence that Matteo needs and actually craves. To get the job done, they go from begrudging coworkers, to friends, and eventually, to lovers. However, in their line of work, they know better than to get too attached.

While this is explicit where the bedroom is concerned, the feelings that are shown are parsed out sparingly as the relationship grows into more than just sex and dominance and control (thankfully not hardcore bdsm). Never effusive, nor over the top or gratuitous, I loved the interspersed fraught actiony bits that juxtaposed with the quieter moments. I loved the snarky back and forth, the understandable angst when getting too close is just too much to bear, and when one tries to separate so as to not be vulnerable, thinking it will keep them safe and protected, they definitely should know better. Really, they should.

Inevitably, things go awry because they always do which causes things to come into focus, and the realization of what’s important is attained.

Again, subtle but not. This was near perfect in the execution, first in its resistance, then in its surrender.

I can only hope the rest of this author’s works is just as compelling and riveting.

Reread 1: December 21, 2022 Honestly, Mariana gives me such Alessandra Hazard vibes.
.
.

This was SO FUCKING GOOD, I'm low-key shocked and pleased and delighted.

Nico gave me such tsundere vibes and Matteo was one badass golden retriever assassin.

Liya recommended this to me and I fucking come forth, I NEED THIS BOOK TO BE PUBLISHED AND FOR IT TO HAVE A FUCKIN EPILOGUE and like, 10 MORE CHAPTERS.

I was prepared for the end and yet I was still gutted.

Still fucking love it tho.

4.5 stars ⭐✨✨✨✨✨

His body has gotten used to Nikolas close, inside him—always watching. He forgets to turn his comm off when he’s taking a piss on missions and there Nikolas is, the faint sound of tapping. When he wakes up with a gasp from a dream on a hotel bed, when adrenaline is rushing through him during a chase, when he’s quiet and alone and thoughts start crawling inside him. There Nikolas is—an eye in the sky, a voice inside his head, an ear against his chest where his vitals can be read.

This may be the after-reading high talking, but these two are amazing. That's a lot of passion, steam, and action packed into such a short read. It starts off pretty hot, but then it gets even hotter, and much more emotional. The writing is really good. It really feels like you're in Matteo's head, the characters are interesting, and the relationship development is great. They dynamic here is one of those slightly D/s where it isn't formal BDSM, but more intrinsic to the relationship, and it's nicely shown instead of told.

Matteo is a little self-destructive, a bit of a loose cannon, submissive and needy. Nikolas is in control, and definitely what Matteo needs, but he's not the usual, eternally calm and collected, almost heartless dominant. Granted, you only get to see him slip up couple of times, but it's so effective. It made the connection and the pull between them even the better, and it makes up for the lack of his POV. They're both equally vulnerable and invested. The conflict wasn't the most groundbreaking, but it was realistic. It was even slightly foreshadowed and in a couple of those instances I really held my breath due to how their emotions affected me.

I loved it, I couldn't put it down, and I will be looking for more from this author because I am loving these novellas. Maybe I shouldn't have given up after Honeythorn. And since this review might end up longer than the actual book - I highly recommend this, and it's free in Vivancos Voyeurs FB group.

I’m not sure how she did it, but Marina Vivancos somehow managed to condense a full-length book into this (FREE!) novella. I loved Matteo and Nikolas’ solid connection, the total trust Matteo had in his handler, their friendship, the building tension, the sex… 😳🔥 Holy hell, these two had some amazing chemistry (even if I DID expect a little more kink…), and the relationship progression was really well-paced, nothing felt rushed. That little drama near the end was just a cherry on top, not ott but just right. All in all, a pretty well balanced action-romance novella. 👌

“God, you really are a stalker.”

5 how the fuck did Vivancos get inside my head and write a novella I didn't know I needed stars

This suspenseful erotic novella has a lot going on for only being 76 pages.
It's not just the spy/handler trope, or the kinky bits, or the bossy as fuck handler with a supposedly impenetrable demeanor, or the loose cannon spy who has issues with authority but has a heart of gold.

It's the fact that this is only 76 pages and somehow, somehow it's hot, kinky, slow-burn-ish (I know, how is that possible), and tense. I don't know how Vivancos got me invested in two people that quickly.

And the handler listening in on (I mean, that's his job technically speaking) on the spy having sex with other people (his marks), sometimes telling him what to do (sexually), listening to the spy brush his teeth, get ready for bed, and masturbate. Half of the sex scenes were from listening in when they weren't even together, and it was just... perfect.

A bit of power exchange, a bit of angst, a bit of no-we-can't and no-we-shouldn't, and a little omg-don't-die-on-me-asshole. I don't know how she shoved all that greatness in a novella, but I could read these snack-sized things every day.

It's FREE and it's short, go get a copy!

Highlights:

"I’ve tolerated it for far too long. You disobey me again, you better have a fucking good reason to do it, or I’m reporting you as psychologically incapable of doing the job.”

“I haven’t told you what to do,” Nikolas says, and his voice pierces through Matteo like a bullet to the gut.

Matteo tells himself it’s not weird. He and Nikolas have strange lives that don’t allow for conventional relationships. It’s only natural that the handler and soldier bond would evolve this way.

"Please, please, please,” Matteo finds himself sobbing.

“Wanna help me jerk off?” Now that gets the sound of typing to stop.

All there is now, is touch and voice and Nikolas, Nikolas, Nikolas everywhere

“That’s it, good boy,”

Of course, nothing that good can last for long. Not when you’re Matteo, at least.

“I can’t do this.” It’s said so softly it’s almost gentle, but the words pierce through Matteo.

Part of Matteo had thought Nikolas would cave with time. That he would see that they could work together—that Matteo could trust Nikolas, and Nikolas could trust himself.

Fun and steamy, with just the right amount of feelings thrown in, this short confirmed again that I shouldn’t have waited 2 years to read another story by this author after my first one.
I could’ve done with less eye-rolling from the two MCs, but I liked them both so much and the relationship development had so much unexpected depth for a short story, while also avoiding a predictable twist at the end, that I’m feeling in a forgiving mood.
I also think this is the first time I managed to finish AND really enjoy a story written in 3rd-person-present-tense (in English, at least). So bonus points for that, even though I suspect it was originally written in the past tense, going by the two or three times a sentence slipped through with the wrong tense.

The creativity of the unusual plot really impressed me. Liked it a lot! I enjoyed getting to know the characters, each one a distinct personality and voice. I was perfectly happy that the spy business was a mere backdrop to the romantic relationship, which took front and centre stage. A very erotic one, plenty of steam of the light D/s kink type in this one.

This book should have been longer or whuuut?!!!!!!

The idea is brilliant and the development of it was brilliant too. This book is short but I got all the feels. 🤯🤯

I still think it should be longer, we should meet the characters deeper, their arrangement, teir work, how they met, I WANT TO KNOW MORE!!!

What we got is good, but it left me wanting more. Do you read me Marina? Can we have a longer story pretty please. 👁👄👁

A surprisingly convincing erotic romance.

I've been pleasantly surprised by a few of Marina Vivancos' short stories, and how much emotional connection she manages to build in so few pages.

I liked the back and forth in this, that it wasn't just a linear relationship development but that they do actually suffer some setbacks. It ends on a hopeful HFN which felt quite realistic.

It does toe the line between erotica and romance though, and if you were expecting just one or the other, I can see this might be a letdown. It could have gone either way quite successfully, and I personally do enjoy the mix.

Sexual content: Blowjobs, rimming, edging, phone sex, anal sex (strict top/bottom).
Kink: instructing partner with someone else, orgasm denial.

Sassy and sexy and just enough story to pull me in.
I haven't read a good spy story in a while and found myself sitting on the edge of my seat. This wild spy and his smooth-operator handler begin their working relationship with trust and forbidden simmering attraction. Soon enough, the temptation is too much to resist. But 'being together' could put more than their jobs at risk...lives are on the line. But can they go back? Or is that line drawn in the sand?? Eeek, it sure was fun finding out!
*happy clap*

Don't miss this great story!

It's character driven and one of the reasons I liked it so much. There are other things going on aside from the characters' relationship but they didn't steal the spotlight. Everything was as it was supposed to be.

Matteo and Nikolas really connected and I could see them fitting together. I liked the process and that they were friends first, their banter, their ease with each other.

carefree spy lets his intense, stoic handler whisper in his earpiece instructions on how to seduce marks, which eventually turns into a whole lot of telling the spy what to do sexually, from picking out hookups to JOI.....these unprofessional mfs out here casually being HR's worst (and sexiest😏) nightmare😂 nice lil palette cleanser

This is the first book/novella I’ve read by Marina Vivancos and I can see why she has such a loyal fanbase. It’s a great story about a covert operations handler and his reckless agent. The relationship development and subtle daddy kink will grab your attention and hold it till the end.

This was okay. It kind of teetered in the area between emotional and smut… not really scratching the itch for either. There wasn’t really enough story to hold it together.

I get that this is a freebie, but there were quite a few typos. The best was the orgasm that ripped “a horse cry from his chest.” *Neigh* 🐴

This was a lovely surprise! New-to-me author Marina Vivancos told the story so well. Loved the writing! I’m a sucker for snarky characters and tough but tender-hearted MCs. It’s about Agent Matteo, a spy, and his handler Nikolas, and how they got closer through their missions together. There were undertones of domination but very lightly presented. Literally sucked me into their fast-paced world of espionage, extractions, shootouts and non-stop action. This will keep you entertained and feeling fuzzy in the end.

“I know you know what to do,” Nikolas says in a clipped tone. “Let me just…tell you anyway.”

Lol so my mom has comrades in arms, then. I did not see it as an expression of love rather than a deeply seated need to irritate but I see the vision.

But also.....

“Drink,” says the voice of God. He drinks.

The voice of—for God's sake! What is this down bad behavior?

Is it bad that I kind of liked the tit for tat breakup 🙊? The petty part of me felt soothed.

Also, asking your ex to pick someone out for you is ballsy business. 💀

WHO DOES THAT?!

This doesn't give novella vibes, in the sense that while it's really short, you feel like you got to know the characters and don't feel like there are bits of the story missing. It also has a good pace and doesn't feel rushed whatsoever.

No notes.

Eh. I mean it's perfectly fine for what it is, there's just not much to it. It's the right length and depth for some pure smut, but...that's not what it is. It's not really all that smutty (although there's definitely some), and I'm just not the right audience for a short unless it's got intense feels and/or smut. The feels were nice, but not enough to carry the whole thing. It's an interesting concept, but I need a good action plot with my spies/assassins, and that was non-existent here. However, if you tend to like shorts, don't judge by me.

I liked this!
I loved the pacing. The novella manages to go through months, with the romance progressing as well.

The romance, the steam. MV knows how to write steam people!

I also loved their banter. Matteo was a funny character and Nikolas' dry humor complemented Matteo's shenanigans quite well.

What I don't like with MV's novellas is that we don't really get to experience the MCs together after they decide to be together. It ends rather abruptly.

There really isn't very much to this, and the blurb says most of it. It's a surprisingly sweet little story of the "Come for the sex [sorry], stay for the love" variety.
The "secret agent in mortal danger" thing isn't actually A Thing: it's just a plot gimmick to justify the "I can't be with you" thing. If ever there was a teflon-coated agent thrown into pure superhero comic book situations, it's Matteo. I'll probably re-read this.

Really enjoyed this novella. Pretty packed with action, slow burning feels, some kinky power exchange stuff, and distinct characters. The handler/spy dynamic is a great one to explore… would’ve loved more time with them after they decide to make a go of things.

4.25 stars - I think I have two Marina Vivancos books left until I've read everything she's released. *pout* I don't know how she does it, but she drops you in the middle of this super high stakes mission, gives you JUST ENOUGH information, and then makes it all about this intense relationship between an agent and his handler and you're put through the wringer, but still want more. And this is the free story she gives away for joining her newsletter!

My god it wad perfect. Of course it was. Short, badass, sweet. Marina Vivancos did it again.

There are many things Matteo wants to say. ‘I’m sorry,’ or ‘I love you,’ or ‘I’ve missed you,’ but their crushing bodies speak those words loudly enough.

Matteo is a special agent who's job is to get his hands dirty and get rid of the scums of the earth. Nikolas is a computer-hacker-wiz who was assigned to be Matteo's new handler after Matteo scared the last dozen away by his impulsive-follow-no-rules behavior.

A handler is a person who guide the agent through the mission, hacks into as many systems to make the agent's job easier, collects data, and gives best-course-of-action orders. The thing is, Matteo is more go-with-your-gut kind of guy so not many handlers were able to put a leash on him. Until Nikolas.

Nikolas is calm, smooth and steady. Matteo's behavior doesn't phase him, and he is the only one in the agency who was able to handle Matteo without running to the hills. Despite the difference in their personality (Nikolas with his endless patience and Matteo like an overgrown golden retriever with a gun) they found themselves forming a special friendship.

And then some.

hint: "some" equals really hot (HOT HOT) kinky sex, friends-to-lovers troop, you-almost-died troop, sweet as fuck moments that will make it impossible not to fall for them, and HEA.

at first i wasn't sure this would hold my attention, but eventually i was so glad i sticked around. their dynamic was on point, their scenes were so hot and the author managed to make me feel a lot. this was just great.

i need to point though. when Nikolas was described, the word "oriental" was used, which is unacceptable, so the race rep is horrible and disappointing and was the biggest let down of this novella. besides from this, i really loved the romance.

You were the best part of my whole life, Nikolas.
