description

The Promised Neverland’s reading/watching experience is very similar to Attack on Titan’s. Once the major mystery was revealed (yes loots of secrets remained), the rest simply wasn’t as good as the first arc. The last arc in this manga is second best but this volume wasn’t the strongest. I feel like the ending is going to be too neat to my liking.

*Sigh*... *sigh again* What happened to the plot twists, to the intelligent story and characters, to the cunning villains? To the obstacles?? Everything was so easy and convenient, there wasn't a real sense of danger anymore.

Once again : mind blowing.
With volume 17&18 I felt like the story was getting rushed but this one was different and well-rounded!
I’m excited and also at pain for the last volume to come.

When I reviewed the last volume of this manga back in January 2021, I was expecting to have finished by the end of that year, but boy life was different then. I have finally finished reviewing this penultimate volume. The journey I been on with this series has been something. this title really got me to be series about reading manga as my interest in Western (e.g. Marvel and DC) comic books was dying down....but I'll talk about that another time. I want to do a full meta-review of this series when I review the final volume. Again, it was a stroke of luck that I picked this series up when the first season of the anime ended. Unlike with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the anime industry did The Promised Neverland wrong and one only hopes it gets an FMA: Brotherhood-style reboot one day. This manga, while not perfect, was one of the most ambitious to come out of the industry from the last decade. But again, I'll talk more about the whole series for the next and final volume.

This volume sees the team deal with the aftermath of accomplishing one of their goals, but they still have a lot of dangerous loose ends...the biggest being the ultimate villain of the series who still has a whole lot of cards to play. Fortunately, our heroes are not as naive to this as he and his cronies think.

This volume pulls a very interesting deus ex machina that I felt was a bit on the predictable corny shonen-side. Besides that, the other twist that we had all been waiting on since the kids left Grace Field did pay-off in a big way and it will be interesting to see if Emma's shonen protagonist pedigree can get her to her final destination.

Bien meilleur que le précédent, c'est un tome pleins de rebondissements et de révélations. Il m'a évidemment donné énormément envie de lire le dernier tome, vivement qu'il paraisse en France !

Okay many people lied about this series getting bad, because this was fantastic!! The stakes are high, the emotions are there, and actions have consequences! Love it!

SPOILERS AHEAD!

I definitely liked the second have of this volume more than the first. As much as I love Sonju and Mujika, I wasn't as invested in their part of as much as was with Emma, Ray, and Norman's. Maybe because there wasn't as much action and it was more political, but it definitely didn't hold my attention. This volume also shows how rushed the ending to this series was, as readers are graced with multiple flashbacks (most time-stamped) and one of the fastest uprisings and ending to an uprising I've seen in recent years. And I get it, the creators were being pushed to finish the series and I don't blame Shirai for choosing to settle things the way they did, but it was hard to feel emotional over the uprising and the consequences that come from it when it's effectively resolved a few chapters later.

On top of that, Duke Leuvis's arrival pissed me off. Again, I understand that Shirai was looking for the best way to quickly wrap things up for the finale, but considering that there was no indication that Leuvis was still alive after the Goldy Pond Arc and readers are given no explanation as to how he's still alive, it comes off as an annoying and almost insulting ass-pull. Oh, and he's suddenly a good guy? On a whim? Yeah no, this is easily the most contrived ass-pull I've seen since Food Wars and is easily the worst part of this entire series.

That being said, I did like the infiltration and take over of Grace Field and LOVED seeing Isabella and the sisters betray Ratri. While this is also kind of an ass-pull since her betrayal wasn't built up, it doesn't bother me as much because it was clear by the end of the first major arc that Isabella was done with the farms and wanted to escape. Again, wasn't built up as well as it could have been, but I'll take it. The art and paneling where on point as always and I loved that everyone got a chance to shine. Despite how rushed this series was, I will always appreciate how balanced the cast was, both with main and side characters.

That's all I've got for now. Next volume's the finale!

My goodness gracious! The intensity just increased from 10 to 100! Some characters are well-developed or well-written for this volume 😃👌🏼📖

Chapter 162 comments: More spoiler alert!

No one's the father of Ray or any cattle child (I suppose) in this world... Rather, children were born through asexual methods... It was shown on the one chapter back in volume 5 where sperm cells were injected to make Isabella (or any mamas in this world) became pregnant...

HOW!!!!!???? I thought her character arc was finished when we saw that side scene where she was talking to Sister Krone in that 4-panel comic strip back in volume 5????!!! JUST HOW? The creators are messing with our brains.... After being gone for 13 volumes , Isabella's back and scarier. 😱

Chapter 163: Damn, that was quick!

Chapter 164: Damn, Peter Ratri... You as***ole!!! Picking on Nat and Jemimah like that! What have you done to Phil? Just DIE!!!!

Why is there another time jump? Like what? 3 days? I thought it would only take at least a few hours for Emma and her friends go get to Gracefield House... Like why!? Where are they? And the hunting ground children??!! Please. I can understand why Anna, Nat, and the others feel helpless. But that is a big plothole that the hunting ground kids are not trying to escape despite their tenacity and fighting skills.

Chapter 165: The trio is baaaaaack! 😊 They are working together again.... 3 days have passed since the destruction of the nobles and the queen.... And Norman is wearing the same black pants as they Emma and Ray.... 🤩🤩🤩😆😆😆😆 ... Fabulous... I can't contain my excitement!!!!

-------------

I can't get enough of these kids' adventures 😭. They are all helping one another.... Everyone has an assigned role... The cooperation is just to the max ... At the end of the day, I just want them to have a happy and peaceful home without having the need to use guns...

I've come to an end of the volumes and now I'll continue to read individual chapter updates as they come per week (a situation which I personally am not fond of). I loved this entire series, though I wasn't personally invested in some of the characters as much as I would have liked to. It was entertaining nonetheless.
