The Artist's Manual... a simplistic view of basic tools and supplies needed for various art specialties. This is a book for a jack of all trades, someone who is good at a many things, excels at nothing. Each specialty's page just scrapes the surface of the approach. Good for students. Covers limited scope of drawing, painting, sculpture, digital media, photography, and mixed media.

4/5 This book was what I was looking for before I began my artistic journey. I am the sort of practical person who likes to dive into new projects with a simple framework of necessary information. Learning to paint, I constantly felt as though I was missing some vital framework. Despite not knowing what to ask for, I picked up a brush and some paint and began to enmesh the two upon canvas however I felt like I had no business progressing so boldly. I felt like a fraud when I turned up to paint at a local workshop where everyone paid to occupy two hours of studio time where we had a circulating artist available to answer questions. I was clueless and therefore had no idea what I was meant to ask. I needed to know everything from how to work with the various types of paint, which brush to use for what effect, how to approach an artwork; how to layer paint, how to know when I’ve finished, how to finish/seal my artwork.

Mine was an awkward introduction to painting—which continues—but at least now, after reading this manual, I will feel more prepared by at least having a grasp on the very basics. I highly recommend this book to anyone planning on embarking on an artistic journey of the visual arts.

This book covers a wide range of art, including painters, ceramicists, and photographers, and is a manual book for aspiring contemporary artists.

It is also fully accessible to those who enjoy art appreciation and visiting art museums.

Although the book focuses on how to create artwork and teach techniques , I thought it would be more useful for aspiring artists if it also explained the marketing business of the art industry.

I enjoyed reading this book. I checked it out from the public library in my county after seeing the outrageous prices colleges are charging for an art class. In my opinion, I got the better deal: I learned what is taught in the college class for free.

Initially, I bought this book to read at my leisure and got into it more while vending at a holiday market but then, I decided to get my art teaching license and I used this book to help me study. It was a wonderful tool and helped me learn so much about the discipline.
