Crazy Families and all that jazz!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💜💛💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📙📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: 👤👤👤👤👤

The setting: Greenwich, CT & Washington DC,

The Hero(s): Hamilton Beauregard - grew up the bastard son of prominent politician, Jack Beauregard. Hamilton’s older brother, Joseph was a sociopath who liked to hurt Hamilton whenever he could. Hamilton has made it his life’s mission to get revenge on his brother and his father who never did anything to help him.

The heroine: Vera Garner - her mother, Lilah faked a pregnancy and married Joseph. He beat her when he found out and Vera is trying to save her from herself since she still wants to be with Joseph.

The Love Story: Hamilton and Vera met at Lilah and Joseph’s wedding and soon began seeing each other. Hamilton was the black sheep of the family and always did his best to make headlines that were embarrassing for the family. However, with Vera he truly fell for her.

Hamilton is still trying to bring down his brother in this book, he begins working with his father but is wary of Jack’s motives for all of the sudden wanting to bring down his favorite son. Hamilton’s motives are to keep Vera out of the whole mess and keep her safe from both his brother and his father.

I like the give and take in this book and how Hamilton tries to protect Vera, but still he can’t stay away from her. Vera was a bit of a doormat for her mother and for Jack in the first book, but she starts to come into her own in this book and stand up for herself, even with Hamilton.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Web-Photo-Editor If I was a pretty flower, then Hamilton crushed me in his fist. Hamilton was a mistake, one that left wounds you couldn’t see, but were still just as painful.”

Star Rating : 4 / 5 Stars

POV : Dual

Cliffhanger : None

Hero : Hamilton . He was the perfect hero or rather the perfect charmer who could use anyone and everyone to achieve his goals. That is until he fell for one of his said targets and all his mistakes caught up to him.

Heroine : Vera. She was sweet sassy and I must say that the girl was totally oblivious. I loved her personality and her behaviour but a part of me wished that she grew a little bit of backbone.

Pace of the story : Moderate

Angst Rating : 6/10

Heat Rating : 5/10

Triggers Involved : none

Plot Summary :
After knowing Hamilton's secrets , all Vera wants is to forget about him. The ruthless way in which he uses her and then planned to discard her should be enough of a reason for her to hate the guy! But no. Somewhere along the way she fell for him and now there is nothing she can do but to run away from him. Easier said than done , now she has struck a deal with Hamilton's Father , she has to be close to him.

The last thing Hamilton wanted is to be another disappointment to Vera. But that is what he exactly ended up being. His actions finally caught up to him and there was no way Vera was forgiving him anytime soon. But their relationship problems were the last of their worries. With an even bigger Enemy in the game now all Hamilton wanted was to keep Vera safe and for that if he had to destroy her then so be it.

Overall Opinion :
I must say that I liked the first installment of this duet much more. This part wasn't a bad one but I expected more , maybe?? Hamilton was a perfect character for me but it was Vera who seriously irritated me at times. I wanted to hit her and tell her to grow a backbone and stop taking shit from hamilton but she just kept on forgiving him everytime and soon their relationship became unattractive to me. This is my personal opinion .

The Story was good and it was a bit obvious that what would happen but it was still nice to read it!! A must read for all the Romance lovers who love a bit of taboo in their books just like me!

Final Verdict :
A memorable read for me!
The Storyline was a bit obvious to me so no major plot twists.
I wished that the female character grew a backbone but that did not happen.
A must read for all the taboo Romance lovers out there!!

What a deliciously dramatic and shocking conclusion! Thorns and Forgiveness is sensual, angsty, and tumultuous at every turn. This duet is some of CoraLee June's most intense and profoundly evocative writing to date- jaw dropping entertainment paired with a riveting emotional complexity. This is a story that will break your heart before it heals it- a journey that is complicated and intense, but one that is that much more rewarding in the end.

Our story picks up after the devastating and shocking revelations of book 1- leaving Vera yet again the casualty of the needs and agendas of others, broken by the people who are meant to love and protect her. Hurting, isolated, and shattered, she’s faced with a proposition- one we didn’t see her come to terms with. Thorns and Forgiveness, though, is all about these characters coming to terms with their shit. And it is nothing like you expect- but such is the beauty of a CLJ story- and such is the nature of her volatile and unpredictable leading man, Hamilton. Thorns and Forgiveness is more emotional, more intense, more passionate, more dangerous, more shocking. All the MORES. So much angst, so much heartbreak, and so much emotion- this conclusion devastates as much as it uplifts. Both characters have to fully destruct before they can heal the wounds, before they can forgive- and the journey there is hard, brutal at times, and surprising at every turn. If you thought the hurt was deep at the end of book 1, just wait. The thorns go deep.

BS was really Vera’s story- a character recognizing that she was not writing the narrative of her own life, that she’s been living as an apology to others her entire life. A realization catalyzed by her destructive but passionate love for Hamilton- a man who too was defined by the story told about him. Destroying her narrative might not have been of her making- for Vera it really happened at the hands of others- but in TF, rebuilding her identity, redefining her story, is on her terms. And what a character arc- Vera’s growth is magical. Cora so artfully juxtaposes the Vera of book one with book 2- we get to see Vera find out who she is and stand strong in herself. Vera’s story is about power- a power she finds by the careful extraction of each and every thorn from the pretty illusion that was her identity to free herself, to reclaim herself. Because what is so great about her story is that Vera isn’t created anew- she’s still the Vera we know and love, but she’s a FREE Vera. A strong Vera. An empowered Vera. A Vera who is, at long last, writing her own story.

Hamilton, on the other hand, is in disarray. While Vera is stronger and evolved, Hamilton has yet to fully break. But Cora breaks him- and us- routinely. While this story continues the saga of this twisted and scandalous family and Hamilton’s story with Vera, book 2 is really more about him. His decisions, his mistakes, his agony and hurt, his redemption. Like Vera, Hamilton too needs to freed- but his path there is different. Hamilton has spent every moment running away from who he is- and not only his name- playing up his trouble making, the ne’er do well persona. And now Hamilon has to own who he is, and what he’s done. He too has to take back control of his own story- not just for himself, but out of love for Vera- the first not selfish act of his life. And to do that he has to face his foes- the Beauregard legacy and himself. And that requires the hardest kind of acceptance and forgiveness- Hamilton has to forgive himself. He has to find his own worth while forging his own path- a path that isn’t about destruction and self-loathing. More than anyone, he has to figure out who he wants to be.

The chemistry here is beautifully painful. YES- these two hurt quite a bit as they work through the toxic roots of their connection. Roots they have to unearth to plant a new and healthier base. Roots that can not grow until they address their own baggage. Hurting each other is easy- but loving, well loving is much harder. But as much as they hurt each other, they find their own truths, and they keep finding their way back to each other and their love. A love that teaches them the most important lesson of all- how to own who they are, how to be FREE. It is a love that breaks, but it is a love that liberates and restores. So they learn to fight- fight for themselves so that they can fight for each other. They are chaos and peace, light and dark, broken and whole.

This story is so brilliantly told- and not only because of all the gritty twists and turns and intense angst. Cora artfully uses pace to build the anticipation, parallels to deepen our character journeys, and brilliant contrasts to highlight the emotional growth of these complicated, flawed, and captivating characters. The prose is so deliciously meta-about feeling, about growth, about understanding. About characters who find meaning in their pain and trauma. And that is what I love about CLJ. What makes CoraLee June such a compelling and powerful voice isn’t just that her writing is entertaining, sexy, and delightfully trope subversive- what makes her a favorite are the subtle but profound ways CoraLee infuses complex meaning into her stories. Her writing is gutsy, bold. And you can tell that she is bleeding parts of herself into the page with every carefully crafted word. But she’s also bleeding parts of us- observing and exposing parts of our humanity, subtle themes woven into her ballsy, dramatic narratives. That is what makes her stories juicy and addictive while they also move us in some way- unsettle, inspire, or even perplex us. Hamilton and Vera’s story is explosive and visceral – not only because of the emotional turbulence Cora writes in their character journeys but because of the ways they make us think about our own. By exposing her characters, she exposes parts of us.

Thorns and Forgiveness is a perfect conclusion- one as epic, sexy, and shocking as book 1- but also one full of existential meaning. A story about identity and self-actualization. A story about metaphysical freedom, a story that inspires us to think about our own conception of self- about our own story. And that kind of a story is a story worth telling- a story that holds you. Brava, CLJ- this is character writing at it’s finest, and I could not love Vera or Hamilton more.

***4 "So strong..." stars***

NOW AVAILABLE!

"Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent."

After the ending of the first book, I was waiting like crazy for the second part...
There were too many secrets and turn of events in there, and I needed a kind of redemption and many answers to many of my questions!!!
Everyone in this series seems to having an ultimate goal and his own agenda and I needed to understand what was really happening behind the scenes!!!
And what about poor Vera and Hamilton???
Is revenge worthying more than your heart's desire???

"My father taught me that we were all born with hearts made of glass. Delicate, murderous little tools pounding in our chests. I just needed to take some time and toughen it up with a bit of fire and agony. After all, I was a Beauregard. And Beauregards didn't suffer from empathy, remorse, and guilt. We stepped barefoot on the shattered shards like little psychopaths, proving to the world that we didn't need pretty emotions to survive."

At the end of 'Bastards and Scapegoats', poor Vera was left heartbroken and betrayed from the man that she thought that they were sharing something real... At the same time, she is been forced to struck a deal with the devil!!!
She just wants her old life back and to protect her mother and she will do anything in order to get away from this nasty family!!!
She will even break her heart a little bit more of how much it is already broken!!!

"If I was a pretty flower, then Hamilton crushed me in his fist. Hamilton was a mistake, one that left wounds you couldn't see, but were still just as painful."

Hamilton knows that he fucked up very badly with Vera.
Yes, revenge was something that he was needing, but Vera got under his skin and took place inside his mind and heart.
He wants her back, but he doesn't want for himself to be another one person in her life that will be forgiven even when he is not deserving it!!!
And when he is finding out about the deal that she made, he is determined to save her no matter what the consequences will be for him!!!

"I used her as a pawn, and there was no coming back from that. Even if Vera was willing to forgive me, I struggled with forgiving myself."

Well, honestly, I can not tell you more about the plot, but things got even more worse that they were in the first book...
The masks had fallen and it showed us the real evil that was hiding behind them...
Honestly, I didn't know what to believe and i was kind of shocked of how things turned out after all!!!

"I'm trying to protect you!"
"Who are you trying to protect me from, Hamilton?"
"From me, Petal. From the inevitable storm that's about to rain down on us."

What I loved in here very much was the changes upon our two main characters... Their love might be forbidden and it left them broken, but they have earned a great lesson... That they can be the better versions of them when they are having something that is worthy fighting for in their lives!!!
I loved that Vera decided to put herself first and to fight for what she wanted...
And I loved that Hamilton left aside himself in order to get out his beloved one of the lion's den!!!
These two were just perfect for each other, even though they had too many miles to cover up in order to be together!!!

"I wasn't a Beauregard. I wasn't Lilah's daughter. I wasn't a fucking Rose or Petal or anything. I was my own motherfucking person, and nobody was going to fuck with me ever again." {Vera}

"My fucking girl. Mine to protect. Mine to fuck. Mine to love. Mine to keep away from all the bullshit of the Beauregard name... I refused to let this family ruin her like it did me." {Hamilton}

Yep, I enjoyed this ride, but I was left a little bit unsatisfied...
It feels that I'm still missing some explanations of some things...
It's like I didn't get the closure that I really needed, even though I took most of the answers to my questions!!!
Overall, it was a very intriguing story with many twists that was leaving you craving for more!!!

"My mom taught me a lot of things, but the most important lesson was how to love someone while still loving myself."

That professor at Texas State University was probably on to something.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you have to do something. A motto I need to remind myself of, as I continue with series that I earmarked as not worth the time.

Now, this was just a jumbled mess.

What I thought would be a novel of revenge for Vera turned into another worship of Hamilton's toxicity and Beauregard baggage.

Vera continues to be a doormat, Hamilton is the dick we expect, Jack is a whole other crazy and Joseph is just crazy. As for Lilah? I don't even know how to unpack that one.

Nothing made sense or connected in this novel. It was all random and a hodgepodge of events that eventually lead to an epilogue of sorts.

I didn't connect with the characters and sometimes I didn't even understand what they were talking about. Hamilton is not cute with how he dealt with Vera and this girl has zero redeeming qualities or self-esteem it seems.

The sex was meh and the storyline could use some sense.

There is supposed to be a big twisted plot but it felt like a last-minute thought that wasn't fully processed or completed.

Now I don't enjoy tearing down people's work but this series got a second chance in the form of a duet and it squandered the opportunity. Especially after the explosive ending of book one.

However, despite it not all coming together, there was potential for a good story.

But not because you have an idea, means you have to pen it.

Wow. I didn't think I could love Hamilton more than I did in book 1 but him being all super claim-y in this book put him over the top. I loved the drama in this book, it just keeps you on the edge of your seat while reading. And can we talk about Vera's character growth in this book...like amazing!!!

So good. Highly recommend.

CoraLee June!!!!!! Why must you do this to me!!!!!! Woman, I swear.

Thorns and Forgiveness is just... insane. In the best way, though. After absolutely loving BaS, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the second half of this duet. I mean, more Hamilton Beauregard? Yes please!

Speaking of that man, we really get to see more of him here, and get glimpses of his heart and soul. The tragedies of his past still play out in his present, but he makes sure they have no place in his future. And gosh, the love he has for Vera, for their future. I loved the way he loved her.

But really, it was Vera’s love for herself that I loved most about this rollercoaster ride. One of the purest characters I’ve met in ages, Vera Garner stole my heart in BaS, but I was waiting for her to stand on her own, to fight for herself. And she finally did. I couldn’t have been prouder.

But there are so many layers to this story, each one crazier than the last. Your head will be spinning once you reach the end!

This book was so freaking angsty. Enjoyable, but melodrama, they name is Hamilton Beauregard. I like this author, but this wasn't my favorite series by her.

This is the second book of this duet. I thought I knew the whole picture and where the story was generally going to go in this second book. I was very, very wrong. The twists in this book are amazing. I love that Coralee puts amazing twists, turns, and surprise reveals in her books. After reading B*stards and Scapegoats; I thought I was really looking forward to this book. I wanted to see if Jack really wanted to repair his relationship with Hamilton, I wanted to see what would happen with Vera and her (nasty, selfish) mother.

Hamilton - I loved his story and his fight in this book. His journey was amazing. I'm proud that he grew into a strong man, not just physically but mentally and emotionally during this second book. I really like that we got to see his journey/growth and not just focused on Vera and her growth. I like this because sometimes in books the men already come in as strong men and we don't get to see much personal growth from them. This is much more realistic in a way because growing, especially in times like these, growth is inevitable. I love Hamilton!

Vera - I didn't really like Vera all that much in the first book. But this book she changed a lot. I grew to like her little by little in this book. I was jumping for joy when she finally stood up to her mother. Her mother is toxic and I'm glad she was finally seeing that. I honestly don't know how a mother can be that toxic but Lilah is probably one of the worst book-mom's I've ever read. I wanted to throw things at her the entire duet. However, even though Vera is still a bit naive here and there (she's 19 so she gets a pass), Vera had my support during this book compared to the first book where majority of the time I kept saying, "oh no girl don't do that."

This was a great book period. This series was great and probably one of my favorites from Coralee June!

Thorns and Forgiveness

This book was the amazing finale to Vera and Hamilton's duet. From the beginning it was clear that these characters needed to overcome the role they played until now and face the demons of their past. I was looking forward to this book to see these characters finally bloom.

Seeing Vera finally stand up for herself was such a powerful moment. I have been rooting for this girl from the start.

And Hamilton... Oh boy... He was everything and more!

This was a gripping, thrilling and emotional rollercoaster for sure!

Thorns and Forgiveness by CoraLee June is the second book in the Twisted Legacy duet, and follows Vera and Hamilton and their slightly unconventional love story.

The story starts from Hamilton’s POV, and switches between the two. I did enjoy this in the first book, as it gives a look into who Hamilton is more straight away so you don’t have a disconnection to his character and understand that there’s more to him than what the world sees.

I love that Jess (Hamilton’s best friend) is no nonsense and is all for his relationship with Vera - she wasn’t initially. It’s like she’s the one who wants to fight for their relationship just as much (possible more) as Hamilton and Vera should be.

Whilst Vera and Hamilton aren’t perfect and each have their own issues which together they can work through, they are perfect for each other. Their relationship may have been built on lies and betrayal by Hamilton, and unfortunately there’s a hidden reason by Vera this time, but hopefully they can overcome this and get their HFN.

Also this is just one part of the story there’s another part that involves Joseph, Jack and Lilah but you’ll have to read the story to find out what that is. And what happens to Vera and Hamilton’s love story.

Thorns and Forgiveness is the conclusion to Bastards and Scapegoats (if you haven’t read that, run-don’t walk)! I absolutely love this duet! Book one ended on a crazy reveal and I was so excited to get into this.

The one thing we can always be sure of with this rich political clusterfuck is that we never really know what’s going on. It was a wild ride with a lot of angst and resistance and sacrifice and bullshit and I loooooved the way it ended. The characters are all so complicated and I could never guess what was going to happen. Can’t wait to see what’s next from Coralee June!!

My heart ached for Hamilton. He's treated like the blacksheep of the family. His brother is a total, cruel ahole, his father is just cruel, couldn't care less about family only money and his ego.
Vera's mother is in this sad situation, abusive relationship and Vera will do anything to get her away from that relationship.
Vera is head over heels in love with Hamilton but Hamilton needs to protect and the only way he knows how is to make her hate him to stay away from him . But the pull, the love he and protectiveness he has, he just can't stay away but he's still the ultimate jerk to her. Vera's not an innocent lamb, she turns the tables. But will it work? I loved this so much and probably could have read it in 1 day, so hooked.

It was okay. Wish there was more between Hamilton and his girl especially towards the end. It just seemed like there was something missing. I don’t even understand how some of the things took place: the shooting, raising the new baby and the mother daughter connection. All the relationships seemed like they were all forced just like the planned fake pregnancy.

Holy gracious!! I was dying to get back into this world. The way we were left at the end of book one, I was counting the days until Hamilton and Vera were back in my kindle where they belonged. I pretty much had no idea what direction CoraLee was going to take this book in and that was a glorious thing. I was going in with complete blinders on as everyone should, so if you are expecting a spoilery review, you will not find it here.

But I never expected the heartbreaking devastation this book was going to put me through over and over until I finally got put back together in the end. Hamilton is without a doubt my favorite book boyfriend as of late. He frustrated me all to hell and he made me all hot and bothered. I wanted to hit him repeatedly for the way he treated Vera when I knew he had to love her.

“Loving Vera was an inevitable consequence of knowing her.”

Again Vera never ceases to amaze me with her strength and perseverance, YES, YES, YES, she is nothing short of amazing!

Her character is unstoppable...What CoraLee did with Vera’s character OMG y’all!! No matter how many times life gave this girl the middle finger. She was still the most selfless character ever.

There were so many secrets and lies, twisted craziness going on in this conclusion. Ah the deliciousness and deception. I’m so glad CoraLee healed my heart. can’t wait to see how all this plays out. I am devastated right now. This is not what I want for my sweet Vera. GAH! She deserves so much better than all this. I’m mad at Hamilton right now but I’m holding out hope for him, I just know CoraLee is gonna redeem my man. He is most definitely my favorite character transformation. 😈 He’s still deceptive and a bit, deviant, and he’s most definitely a tamed playboy, plus he’s Alpha AF. But he is delicious in every way possible. I just knew to his core he’s good. He just doesn’t have many people think he is worthy of anything and he, like Vera got the short end of the family.
YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK.

This book is sexy and sad and frustrating and full of suspense, lies and secrets. It's the edge of your seat kinda book. It’s got angst and wicked banter between the characters. I love the way CoraLee incorporates her sense of humor into even the serious books she writes. That plus the push and pull, the super hot forbidden aspect to the love story and I am HERE FOR IT ALL. This entire story and the characters within are complex and the layers to these characters are absolute works of literary art! CoraLee absolutely nailed it!

My cr8zysockbookblock blog wrap up for this book!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐⭐⭐️- Hamilton and Vera’s story is everything I hoped it would be and then some. It is full of lies, secrets, twists and turns. My mind was constantly in a delicious tailspin. This was SO.MUCH.MORE. Awesomely crazy, and the amazing chaos that comes from a book you are hooked on from page one. It gets ALL THE STARS from me!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥- GAH! I was literally dying all the deaths, this book was so unbelievably hot, I was simultaneously swoony and a whole lotta sexy. 😍 Their lovin was so hot and alpha AF and dirty. Pearl Clutchers Beware!
🌪Cliffhanger Warning- Perfect HEA Y’all! 🙌🏻🔥🙌🏻

Yes, the follow-up book is here! This is book 2 in the duet so make sure you have read book one before diving into this one and trust me you don’t want to miss a moment with Hamilton!

After the cliffhanger in book one and Vera uncovering Hamilton’s secrets, she is left feeling used and betrayed, like always, something Hamilton did not want due to her always being let down by those she loves and trusts. Unfortunately, to keep her safe, he has to push her away while he sides with his family to work undercover to discover secrets that could expose them. Hamilton doesn’t want any part in saving his family’s legacy but to save Vera he has no choice.

Being betrayed by Hamilton left Vera heartbroken and when he came for her the first time after letting her down, I wished she would have pushed him away rather than fall under his spell and be used by him. Saying this, I did want to high 5 her when she finally snapped and started to stand up for herself, not only to fight for what she wanted with Hamilton but especially to her mother!

Hamilton, I liked his character, although he had all the wealth, it was something that just didn’t interest him. But he was broken, never feeling part of his bully family and although he didn’t like to admit it, when he got a little praise he did like it.

As the story was coming to an end I was devouring the pages, the twists and turns and intensity increasing and I had to pick my jaw up from the floor at one point, I was hooked!

This book is full of secrets and lies and I was always guessing about what was going to come next. I loved the relationship and chemistry between Hamilton and Vera, they were all heat and steam and dirty words and I highly recommend this read for anyone who loves suspense and steam!

Coralee June writes with so much passion and intensity that she rocks my world. Thorns and Forgiveness wreaked havoc on my heart and soul. My words are falling short to express how mindblowing this forbidden romance was. Sultry. Explosive. Angsty. Coralee June's words were no less lethal and damaging than nuclear bombs and diamond knives.

Vera Garner has gotten herself entangled in the mind games and power plays of Beauregard family. But her worst mistake was trusting and falling for her step uncle Hamilton Beauregard. He has ruined her. But does she know the full truth? Why is Hamilton equally wrecked? What will happen when she fails to keep up her words to her manipulative grandfather? What is Hamilton's plan? Where does their broken love story fit?

I am so much in love and lust with Coralee June's writing. She effortlessly brings out the worst and best emotional reaction from my heart. Love. Hate. Passion. Friendship. Deception. Secrets. Lies. Angst. Heartbreak. She just keeps on attacking my heart one after another. Her writing is just so smart and deep. I could feel the vibrating power of her words in each page. Be it portraying Hamilton's aching, ruined and scarred heart. Be it making me feel Vera's pain, her beautiful heart and her never ending love. Be it making me curse and scream with unbelievably complex turns in the story. She made me bleed. Break. Destroy. Two imperfect souls started a war where the only casualties were their hearts. Hamilton is flawed, arrogantly swoony, hard yet begging for true love, with jagged edges and dreamy darkness. He doesn't know how to love without hurting. Until Vera. This sweet and fierce girl was torn apart yet she never stopped loving and fighting for Hamilton. This character went through enormous growth and evolution and you will fall in love with her. Their chemistry is otherworldly. Vicious. Violent. Messy. And perfect.

Thorns and Forgiveness by Coralee June was the epitome of angsty forbidden romance. It shredded my heart with all consuming and gut wrenching feels. And I begged more of the sweet torture!

TW: graphic depictions of murder, loss of a loved one

I found it interesting that this book was from both Hamilton’s and Vera’s perspective but the first book bastards and scapegoats was from just Vera’s perspective.

Also I found it interesting that a very minor side character that was introduced in here that has ties to their family’s political world was named Gary Herbert. Like the governor of Utah?

This book was the conclusion of Hamilton and Vera’s stories. Vera’s mother quickly became the villain completely after divorcing Joseph and then started sleeping with Joseph’s dad. Vera told her to stay away and I think that was a healthy decision by the end of the book.

Hamilton starts working for his dad and brother at the beginning of the book which was a little bit weird because of his tumultuous relationship with them and the fact that they don’t approve of him liking/loving/ dating Vera.

I really liked that Vera’s professor, Annika, took her under her wing when she tried to quit school because her family drama was insane. She became a very nice side character, pretty much the only one in this book that wasn’t completely toxic.

The ending was completely off the rails. Lilac, Vera’s mom, was having a sexual relationship with Jack, Hamilton’s father because he knew too much and she was afraid of the tabloids getting involved. So Joseph comes in and kills Jack and then the FBI gets involved and they use Hamilton as bait. It went TOTALLY bonkers. All in all an Ok, fun read.

Absolutely fantastic! It was everything I thought it would be.

”God, my heart still beat for him. Every pounding hit of my pulse was a painful reminder that I loved this man.”

This story picks right up from the first book. Hamilton is drunk and Vera’s heart is broken. As Vera breaks out of her usual compliant shell and steps up as a much stronger young woman, Hamilton is working hard to keep her safe while getting his revenge. There are machinations galore and it’s really difficult to know who to trust, but the one undeniable truth is that Hamilton and Vera belong together.

”I want you on top of me. Beneath me. But more importantly, I want you always next to me.”

I just couldn’t put this book down! I was totally gripped as Hamilton broke his own heart by pushing Vera away. At the same time, I was so proud of her as she stepped up and claimed her independence. There were certain characters that I wanted to strangle and, honestly, even though I knew that our lovers were bound to have a HEA, I had no clue how they were going to get there, as the plot became so entangled. Hamilton and Vera were super-smokin’ hot together! Their chemistry was off the scale. However, it was the tender moments that had me melting, as Hamilton laid his soul bare to Vera. I loved how the plot progressed and the ending brought a few tears to my eye. Such a fabulous duet!!

Original review

This book was provided by the author through Social Butterfly PR in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Coralee June and Social Butterfly PR!

Thorns and Forgiveness is the second, and final, book in the Twisted Legacy Duet and continues the story of Vera and Hamilton.

I really loved Bastards and Scapegoats and I couldn’t get enough of Vera and Hamilton. When I got my hands on an arc of Thorns and Forgiveness, I was so excited! I really love Coralee June’s work, I think she’s an amazing author and I loved everything I’ve read by her. Thorns and Forgiveness was everything that I wanted and needed.

I cannot stop loving Hamilton. He’s so broken yet so perfect. He’s such a hot book boyfriend, and I want a Hamilton for my own. I really liked Vera in this book because she finally stood up to her mother, she was brave and fierce in this book, and I loved her. I think that Hamilton and Vera are perfect for each other and they complement each other.

I really loved Thorns and Forgiveness. This story is something I’ve never read before and I really enjoyed it. I loved getting to know Vera and Hamilton, and I loved seeing them grow as characters. I think that the story was well written and I wish I could read more about Vera and Hamilton. I’m really going to miss them!

🖤
Let’s talk about “Thorns and Forgiveness by CoraLee June”, this is the second book in the Twisted Legacy duet.
🖤
To read this book you must read Bastards and Scapegoats first, since it’s a duet. We are back to the story right where we were left off, that means, mess, a pure and amazing mess! Hamilton is drowning himself in sorrow and feeling the mix between protect Vera or ask for forgiveness for all he did. At the other side, Vera is fighting to save an awful mom, while selling her soul to a demon.

At the beginning I was so thorn between my feelings for Vera and Hamilton, at times I wanted to kill them both and others I was screaming of glee and excitement! I wanted Vera to stand up and fight for herself, and finally put the others in their places. No everyone is worth fighting for. And let me tell, Vera’s road was a difficult one and at times I didn’t know if she would stand at the other side, but when she did, oh yes, I scream my lungs off because I was so proud of her.

Even though he was supposed to be fighting his brother and dad, Hamilton was fighting himself most of the times. It was so painful, because he didn’t deserve that and his family was super dysfunctional, seriously how he survived at all was a surprise. But when finally Vera and Hamilton were in the same mental space, they formed a powerful couple, they were the ones to be beat! CoraLee didn’t forget their hot chemistry and there was a lot of steamy scenes, but the focus here was the suspense and the twists.

By the way, I wasn’t expecting that twist in the end! It left my heart beating so fast and wonder what would happen. I really liked the end, however I would love if there was a slight change in the end, I feel that one of the characters had an ending that it didn’t really deserve. Other than that it was hot, shocking, thrilling and utterly amazing. This duet is outstanding and a must read one!

Taboo as fuck , but so amazing !

We are back with Hamilton and Vera and the drama is still brewing !
These two are a thunderous attraction and a storm of emotions .
They both go through a journey of figuring out how to rely on themselves and stand up for one’s self. They both have very toxic family members and a lot of family drama and power plays here. Within the families are issues of power, deceit, betrayal, addictions, and just straight up wild shit.
Murder and sexy sexy scenes .
Uncle , step brother , where shall we go lol ? Lover , enemy , friend, soul mate .
Loved the ride Coralee provided as always . Great Duology .

My Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Coralee June has produced a remarkable story set against an intriguing backdrop and entwined a love story that we can only dream about! I waited and waited with great anticipation for the 2nd book in the 'Twisted Legacy Duet' wondering if 'Thorns and Forgiveness' would be as good as Bastards and Scapegoats and it didn't disappoint - in fact, if at all possible it was even better. If you only read one duet this year I strongly recommend this one.

Hamilton and Vera's story is about to get a whole lot more complex than the first book as the 'Beauregard' family drama gets even more tangled within a web of lies and deceit. Who is playing who? - Why has Governor Jack Beauregard - Hamilton's father suddenly asked for his help? we know Hamilton hates his father and his stepbrother. Why is Vera still being played like a pawn by Jack? There are going to be many twists and turns, you will be left stunned in places but through it all there is such a gripping love story continuing that was insanely glorious to read. One of the great things I loved early on in this book is that Vera finally stood up for herself and I fist-pumped when she finally told her mom exactly how she felt! Way to go Vera.

"I just want you to be happy, Petal. And I'm not capable of doing that."

We all know that Hamilton and Vera are just meant to be she is his day as he is her night, but Hamilton needs to work through his revenge on a family that has caused him nothing but hurt - really this is one messed up family. Thinking that he is keeping Vera safe by pushing her away while trying to find out the skeletons laying hidden in his family and knowing danger is all around but have been OK for the old Vera but the new confident Vera is not going to have any of that this time around. The chemistry again between the two is off the charts and is hot hot hot but foremost the love flows through the pages as we reach a truly spectacular finish!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

Determined to save my mother from her disastrous marriage, I sold my pride for a second chance with Hamilton Beauregard. Jack was convinced I could mend his family, but my heart refused to forgive. Hamilton broke my heart. He betrayed me. He made me fall in love with a lie. While trying to figure out my feelings , we all had to navigate my mother's toxic shame of a marriage and Joseph's deteriorating facade. My stepfather was dangerous. Deadly. During a tragic moment of weakness, his evil bloomed to life and someone died. Hamilton is the only way I'll survive.

This is the second book in the Twisted Legacy Duet. You have to read Bastard's and Scapegoats first or you are going to be lost. I could not wait to get the conclusion to this story in my hands and I promise you it does not disappoint. This book picks up after the revelation that was devastating ending of book one. This left Vera once again the casualty of the agenda and needs of others. You would think the people that love you and protect you wouldn't do this to you. But Vera has not had that kind of consideration. Now all of these characters are going to have to come to terms with their choices and lives. This book is kind of hard to review for I am so afraid I am going to give something away that I shouldn't. I will tell you that you are going to love this book. Spend a lot of time on the edge of your seat. And close it having yet again another favorite that Coralee June has written.

No sé por qué perdono a la madre. Se que tiene problemas, pero no importa es una desgraciada. Y Vera se humilló para salvarla.
