What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? Well, except for when it doesn't. And while for Linda Carter, that was a night she will never forget, for Asher Sloan, it was a night he couldn't remember.

A year later, their paths cross once more. Their chemistry is still combustible, but Linda has learned her lesson when it comes to Asher all too well, and she doesn't plan on getting burned again.

Refusing to take no for an answer, Asher comes up with a solution: a three-month deal where they can both get what they want.

Confident Asher knows how to wear his opponent down, in both the boardroom and the bedroom. But when his true motives come to light, Asher stands to lose everything he never knew he wanted. And if he fails to remind Linda of all the reasons why she should stay, he'll be the one to become nothing more than a hazy memory.

I love a good Vegas type of romance. But sometimes they seem recycled. Hoax Husband is not one of them. I absolutely love the Book. Such a great storyline with steam.

Linda is a fiesty, Artistic, funny, and beautiful women. Who tries to work in the corporate world to make her father happy. She has an insufferable boss. The banter between the two is quite funny. After being locked out by accident of a conference in Vegas, where her boss is the speaker, she meets Asher at the bar, and they hit it off, hook up, separate, and not in the best way. Both can’t seem to get the other off their minds. Eleven months later, he needs her for another reason, and he can’t stop thinking about his feelings for her once they reconnect. It is far from easy for him, and I could help but yell at him, laugh and cheer for Linda and Ashley.

Hoax Husband is e everything I was looking for in this trope, funny, strong heroine, sexy, steamy. I am aw of how Candace write wrote a compelling story with a twist. A must-read.

I received an arc in exchange for my honest review.

I do love a marriage of convenience story and this was deliciously smutty but I had a hard time understanding how the H (Asher) went from being a grumpy businessman who, not only didn’t want to know her next morning, but didn’t actually recognise her, to being completely besotted the next time he saw her. Hot as this was, that just didn’t sit well with me and I had a hard time believing it.
Complete story but part of a series, available on ku.

I really enjoyed this author’s “Cautious” book, but it felt like a different author wrote this book.

It’s not bad , but it’s a hella long way from being more than a two-star read.

Chapter one is hard for me because it paints the FMC as a total screwup. Her boss is an ass and she gets locked out of a meeting. Instead of coming up with a solution, she goes to the bar and orders a beer and had a ONS with the MMC, who is a total stranger. She’s content with missing the meeting. That puts a bad taste in my mouth from go.

After a ONS between the FMC and MMC, the story fast forwards a year. She remembers. He doesn’t. A business endeavor makes him remember, and he needs the FMC for a business deal. So, he sets off to find her a year after that ONS.

The twisty on what happens in Vegas staying there is good, but the execution is iffy at best. Her so easily agreeing to his proposal without any common sense questions. The year of celibacy for both of them. Him going from dismissive to insta love over just seeing her again, even though he admits to remembering nothing but her puss. She’s immediately just ready to play house with him. The relationship is just so unbelievable after a year with ZERO effort until he needs her.

The MMC is that toffee mix of alpha ass and considerate lover, or at least he is after Vegas… not in Vegas. In Vegas, he’s just a dog who wakes up beside her and dismiss her as a whore. Anyway, what this story is missing are the steps his personality, behavior, mindset, and heart take from Vegas to the year-later fast forward.

The FMC has supposedly spent the last year becoming who she wants to be lol. Funny, 24 hours into their agreement, she’s already retreating back to that dress up Barbie…

“After a year away from it all, I forgot what it was like. Almost. I can change who I am to fit the mold you need me to fill. I've done it before but, Asher, I was so unhappy.“

The constant hubby and wife overuse of nicknames felt so very forced.

I never bought the romance, which leaves me to not enjoy this romance novel.

Too many long descriptions of rooms and foods… fluffy word count. One reason I loved “Cautious” is because it avoided that. Sadly, the writing style is very different here.

The Pretty Woman thing wasn’t so charming being as the FMC grew up wealthy. Maybe, she changed her style to look trailer park chic, but you can’t tell me a rich girl don’t know how to handle snooty boutique sales people without the MMC coming in to buy up the store.

Some contradictions, such as the FMC saying she’s allergic to exercise, but she later says…

“I have my mother's figure, but I also work hard to maintain it.”

Moving on, the OW drama is so damn stereotypical. It reads as a forced plot point for the climax of a temporary breakup before the HEA.

Seen the stepdad coming a mile away, and even that angst feels forced. The injury scene at the end felt like the kitchen sink being thrown in for good measure.

In the end, they get their HEA, and there’s a nice long, sweet epilogue that many will enjoy. I didn’t because I never bought the ILYs and didn’t ever find a connection to the characters.!

Mad props to the author for adding her own special twist to the very used Vegas hook-up storyline!

Okay, now listen, you guys are going to hate Asher. It’s fine, you should, but you know what you’ll hate more? You’re going to really hate that he wins you over. #sorrynotsorry lol Now, you know who you will absolutely love and want to be just like? Yes, that’s right, Linda is a ridiculously great character. Every choice the author made with her made me super happy. This story read very real and relatable to me. Things happen in life (that’s me not giving away plot points lol). People tell a lie and don’t really understand its consequence until it bites them back. *shrug* It happens … I don’t want to go too far into this rabbit hole because I really like this story and don’t want to give any of it away.

Anywho, great chemistry with relatable characters and a surprising storyline. Go forth and enjoy!

Linda was tired of her asshole boss, tired of corporate life, and she was in Vegas, so she did what you do in Vegas. When that decision turned around and kicked her out right after, she left and now she's living the artistic life, happier than ever, when who comes oozing in wanting a chance to explore the chemistry they still share.

Asher might pause a touch when he comes to Linda with a story of wanting a second chance. He knows there's a chance she'll leave him when she finds out what he's keeping from her. But by then perhaps he will have gotten her to fall for him, so she'll forgive him. But will she forgive him or realize what a hoax they've been this whole time?

The best part of Hoax Husband is Linda. She's awesome - strong, sassy, and sweet. Honestly, I felt she deserved better than what Asher did to her, and how Asher's best friend and partner, Graham, her ex boss, treated her. I wish she had been paired with someone who deserved her, and even up to the end when Asher realized what an asshole he'd been, I didn't think he was worthy of her. Starting a relationship with a lie is really no way to start, and Linda deserved better, someone who was open with her from the start. But, I will say their chemistry was hot, Linda was funny and amazing, and those things made this a worthy addition to the Cocky Hero Club.

I loved the premise–playboy billionaire has to be in a serious relationship to conclude an important deal and, look at that! he doesn’t remember but he had a Vegas wedding a year ago–but it became a sex fest by page 10. You won’t hear me complain!

I enjoyed the characters, especially Linda, the tattooed painter with rainbow hair and a strong personality. Asher was your regular possessive alpha male with a very high sex drive, but he was nice enough to become tolerable. Of course, their lack of communication is the major conflict in their relationship, and it actually kept me from seeing the romance here. I felt it was mostly lust between them, though they claimed it was love.

My favorite element was the banter between Linda and Graham Morgan. It was witty and really funny. My least favorite was the focus on Linda as an outcast–yes, she’s unconventional and yes, she’s frown upon, but so many situations involving that particular element was unnecessary.

Enjoy a steamy read, sometimes you don’t need much more to be happy.

Quickie

- Series: standalone (but part of the Cocky Hero Club)
- Hashtags: #billionaire romance #opposites attract #fake relationship #artist
- Triggers: past death, brief depiction of non sexual assault
- Main couple: Linda Carter & Asher Sloan
- Hotness: 5/5
- Romance: 3/5
- + unconventional leading lady for the win
- – the last drama was highly unnecessary

Predictable but definitely enjoyable

As always with Candice Wright I was not disappointed.

First I was happy to get back in touch with Graham and Soraya after reading their story years ago (it took me a moment to remember where I knew them from and then it made me smile)

Asher and Linda’s story is honestly predictable but the writing and the feelings we can feel from them were not. I really liked Linda and Asher grew on me despite his more-than-a-little-shady motivations.

I was also pleasantly surprised by some parts of the ending that I actually didn’t see coming so kudos from bringing some unexpected touches.

For fans of the one night stand turned into more, Vegas wedding and fake dating tropes, this book is for you !

Is it a hoax?

A hoax turns in to so much more in this book. I loved archer from the beginning not sure if I was supposed to but I did. I felt like he had it in him to be a decent human bean and he came through for me. After a rough go Linda finally becomes who she was meant to be colors and all. It's a really sweet love story with some stumbles along the way.

Good first read

This was the first book by this author I have read and it was a good read.
I loved how the two main characters finally found their way back to each other even if only one remembers the past and the other didnt.

Wright's foray into this world doesn't disappoint and give a voice to one of Graham's long list of former suffering secretaries. Linda who isn't for this world and knows how to push Graham's buttons. She is a creative spirit who find herself wanting to please her father but want to make her own mark on the world and it about to happen in the most unexpected ways.
It all starts in Vegas which is a cliche setting but Wright doesn't make this over the top. She makes Linda the focus and it happens to be the place where these two have the connection that sets up the book.

Vegas is a night that Laura doesn't want to remember as it was a turning point for her life. It brings a whole lot of emotions so when the man she couldn't forget walks back into her life a year later determined to right the wrongs. It's an opportunity that she doesn't want to miss even if she doesn't know the whole picture.

Asher is a workaholic who has a tendency to think after the fact. He wants one thing and Linda is happy means to get his wants. Yet there is a chemistry that Linda is running away from that Asher wants to explore the more he gets to know this feisty creative girl.

Linda seemed the perfect kindship for Soroya and worm into the gang through Asher. She made him see there was more to life and that there was joy to be found and bring colour to his life. It was fun adventure to happiness even though the twist was easily figured out on my end. Who know being married could be this exciting.

The sassy heroine, Linda, who has a huge heart & is quirky totally made this story. First of all, her interactions with her boss who y'all may recognize, kept me laughing hard, and he's still an *ass. She's on a work trip that ends with her at a bar, and chilling out with a man who she spends a crazy hot night with, named Asher. I wasn't a fan of his from the jump because of how he treated her the next morning, and he didn't even remember that they did a thing. It's almost a year later when they come face to face since he's her a**hat bosses' best friend & partner, so it didn't go well especially when he didn't even recognize her. Things take off when he needs to have some sort of family to win an account that they want, and he learns what he did in Vegas, so he made Linda an offer. Unfortunately he kept secrets which don't make friends, and always come out even if you've caught feelings, so his came to light in spectacularly bad ways. Will Linda ever forgive him?! You know what to do to find out! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

4 Star Review Hoax Husband by Candice M. Wright

Candice M. Wright is a new author to me and why I have not come across her before I have no idea. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, right? Not always and for Linda Carter and Asher Sloan that is certainly not the case.
After a passionate encounter they separate but not before doing something that will change their lives forever. I really wanted Asher and Linda to work things out but I admit at times I wasn’t sure that it would, especially when the truth is revealed.
This was an entertaining story that was steamy and had me invested from start to finish. It was was witty and I though Linda in particular was a strong, feisty, sassy woman who was not afraid to stand up to Asher. There were numerous twists and turns as the story progressed and I was hooked.
When time permits, I will be looking at other books from Ms. Wright.

Linda finds herself trying to please everyone in her life except for herself so when she ends up getting fired from a job she hates it was actually the best thing that could have happened to her as it allowed her to follow her dreams.

Asher is a successful businessman who because of his past is determined to remain single. He meets Linda by chance in Vegas, but it will be a year before he sees her again.

When they reunite a year later the chemistry between them is stronger than ever and the connection runs much deeper than the physical however Asher has a secret that could destroy everything.

Hot chemistry, humor and all the feels as Linda and Asher had some challenges but there is no denying that they belong together.

One lost job, one drunken night and one forgotten marriage lead to Linda (FMC) and Asher being back in each others life a year later. After Asher finds out theyre married even though her has no recollection of it but needing Linda to stay married to him for a big reason. I really loved Linda. Shes smart, feisty and full of wise cracks which made me laugh throughout this book. The relationship between her and Asher was a good one too. She seems to bring him out of himself more. They both steamed up my kindle thats for sure too!! This book was a totally great read and i loved reading it

Gah!!!! I loved this story sooo hard!!

Linda and Asher struck hard and fast. Wright kept me so invested with these two. Their story was a perfect getaway for readers. It was fresh and fun, the banter between the characters had me chuckling and then there was moments I was sobbing.

A completely well rounded story that I know I'm going to reread just to fall in love all over again!

This was a fun, witty, and sexy story that takes a different route from the normal Vegas romances. Linda and Asher are hot together but it's not all easy, especially when lies are exposed. I love some of the banter, especially with Linda's boss and loved the twist with that.

Taste the rainbow

Candice Wright I saw this book in one of my Facebook groups and I was like hmm pre-order all the others have been AMAZING! AND..... I am so glad I impulse pre-ordered this because I was epically right you have delivered ANOTHER amazing book ma'am!!

The story of Laura aka Skittles and Asher starts in Las Vegas. You know just a case of what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas? They drink waaaaay too much and have way too much steamy fun. Then douche canoe kicks her out the morning after..... Oh but that's not the worst part guys... No no poor Laura is working as the secretary for the King of douche canoes and the Monday after that messed up weekend in Vegas in walk both him and Asher into the board room and poor Laura trips and poor guy coffee on the both. Ultimate humiliation and getting herself fired.... She should have throat punched then both 🤦🏻‍♀️
Does she let this get her down.... Heck no! She moves on and finds her self!!! Rebuilds what she should've been all along!
Meanwhile Asher is still being sir douche canoe and trying to run the world. He is trying to land a big hotel deal but needs a financee. He's got his lawyer checking a few leads for him when he finds out he's actually married 🤣🤣 serves you right jerk. At first he decides to track Laura down for all the wrong reasons to try to land deal then cut her lose with enough money for her place.... Never counting he'd have been huh... Guess even grinches love, yeah??

So he finds Laura in a bar as Harley Quinn and almost has a stroke... Legit...🤣🤣 Her tattoos are even more colorful along with her rainbow color hair. She's just stunning. Plus add in the back bone she has acquired yep she's a force to be reckoned with. He tells her he's there to claim his wife and she slaps him.
He FINALLY talks Laura into a 3 month term in which they will try to work on getting to know one another as a married couple. All in. Living together... The whole 9.
Unfortunately for him the obstacles along the way are mostly his fault like not being honest and up front. He breaks her. Almost loses her more than once.
She becomes more to him than a deal though she becomes his life. And he would do anything in this world to his Skittles. There love for each was amazing!! They fought the odds more than once!!

If you have not read this book yet please do your self a favor and give it a try if was an amazing read!!

Random thoughts i had while reading this book:

- So this Lindy orders a beer on tap in the first chapter, but then right after it says that she jumps when Ashers talks to her and the beer sloshes over the side of the bottle? And then right after again when Asher offers her a sip of his drink she declines and looks at the glass in her hand? And it's the same with Asher - he orders a neat double whiskey (so no ice) but then right after when he's talking with Lindy it says he swirls the ice in his glass? And i know this is nitpicking but when the author can't keep track of what she wrote literally a few sentences before it's really difficult as a reader to not be disturbed while reading when things like this change throughout

- Please don't tell me that this woman is in her mid-twenties and she's wearing spongebob squarepants boyshorts and is 100% serious about it

- The nickname 'Skittle' is actually kinda cute not gonna lie, especially because of the meaning behind it

- And this book actually had some groveling - not any revolutionizing groveling, but it's more than i think i've ever read from this author so that's a plus i guess and i appreciated the little texts he sent to her everyday along with her favorite foods

- Ofc there had to be a scene where the mmc threatens the fmc with a spanking if she doesn't listen or behave... I've read a lot of Candice Wright books at this point and i honestly don't think she can write a book without that scene... It's in EVERY SINGLE ONE - However, i think this is actually the first (at least that i can remember) where the mmc actually does end up spanking the fmc... So i guess that's something?

- I really did not see that twist coming at the end, the one with her stepdad being Peterson - My face reading that: 😮

So, even though I really enjoyed the premise and characters of this story- major editing problems.
Candice Wright is one of the good authors IMHO but this was rushed to print and/or someone did not edit well enough.
And I'm a little pissed because I wrote those inconsistencies in my notes, and can I find them???
Gone.

The one I can remember is that it made no sense to me that when looking into the fake marriage with Dawn, not one mention of a prenup.
I had a few more but shoot- oh I remember! It was a scene where the heroine sits in a booth and the guy sits next to her and is like, good, she is pinned in and can't leave. The very next page, she stands up and walks out! No, no, no.
OMG, and they chose the name "Linda Carter". All I can picture is the original Wonder Woman every time they use that mane. She does NOT have rainbow hair.

You would think with these pet peeves that I would have given it a much lower score, but the story was interesting and a solid 4 until the ending when it slid to a 3.5 (the accident). I do still recommend it anyway :) and its high in the hot factor.

Well Worn Trope Done Well

The get drunk in vegas and wake up married to a stranger is a pretty common theme in modern romance literature. It’s been done many different ways but this novel was done well. It’s not surprising to me because Candice Wright is a really good writer and I’ve enjoyed all the rest of her books. This is not her strongest book, but it’s no means weak.

This book is part of the Cocky Hero Club world. I was wracking my brain for the first few chapters knowing that the characters rung a bell. It wasn’t until I did a search for the MFC’s boss that I worked out that the MMC was the boss’s best friend from Stuck-Up Suit. Once I got that settled I could relax enough to enjoy the rest of the book.

The MMC, Asher Sloan, is pretty unlikeable. In fact he’s down right skeezy and it took him longer to win me over than it did the MFC, Linda. His attitude towards women was less than pleasant and his treatment of Linda after their night together in Vegas is pretty horrible.

Linda, on the other hand, is sweet, kind, friendly and warm. She’s strong willed and creative. At the start of the book she is forcing herself into a straight laced role that ill fits her personality and when that role breaks is when she meets Asher.

When they meet again Asher’s motives are not great and I really dislike that Linda falls for his manipulations, even if the lines he uses are sort of true. Linda’s sweet naïveté is kind of endearing, kind of ‘you need a good shake girlfriend’ and it’s a very fine line to walk for the author, who just about pulls it off. The only reason it works is that Linda kind of knows she’s being naïve and Asher knows he is being an ass.

It also veers off in the last 20% in an unexpected direction, which makes up for the predictable nature of the initial plot line, though I would have appreciated that section took up a little bit more of the storyline.

All that being said, I enjoyed the book as it was well written and I know that I will automatically pick up this author’s next book, as I did this one.

Good read

I’m a huge fan of Wright’s, she’s definitely one of my one clicks without question, and I can always count on her to deliver a fantastic read full of feels. I’ll admit this wasn’t my favorite of hers, but still a good read. Super sweet contemporary romance with a nice dose of steam, a few twists, and feels towards the end. My only complaint is the FMC was a bit too much of a forgiving pushover for me, I would have preferred her to have a bit more backbone - like most of Wright’s FMCs usually do. Though I haven’t read the series this story is inspired by, so that may be why. I still really enjoyed the story, and can’t recommend this author’s work enough.

great read

I really enjoyed this book, it was very easy to read. Loved the characters, the rainbow edgey FMC Linda - love her individually and her inner monologue.
Also the asshat of a boss, cracks me up and i can see this exact person out there in real life.
Overall it’s a great storyline, which I throughly enjoyed - love this author, I can’t help but devour her books.
