Emily

I never thought I would be seeking shelter here of all places. I’m out of options though. I needed a place to hide out. Somewhere I could get my bearings and develop a plan to get myself out of the mess I’ve landed in. It was a fail-proof plan. Then he found me. I’ve escaped one monster, only to be captured by another. He’s determined to break me, to uncover the secrets I’m hiding. But this is one secret I can’t let him discover. Can I escape him before he ruins everything? Before he ruins me?

Josh

Emily came crashing back into my life, bringing with her everything I was missing. But she’s not the same girl I knew years ago. Gone is the girl who was always happy and eager to please everyone. The one who didn’t let life get her down. She’s conquered her demons but they still haunt her whenever she closes her eyes. Her screams tear through the darkness night after night. She thinks she needs to get away, to keep running. To leave me behind. But I won’t lose her again; I will slay anything, anyone, who thinks they can get in the way of my keeping her.

Pretty sure that I just met the perfect psycho and hardcore fell in love hardcore. Don’t get me wrong, Emmy would kill me but Josh is crazy in such a great way.

Emily may be a battered and scared woman but deep down there is a fighter just waiting to emerge. When one horrible nights leads to her running and fearing for her life she turns to the one person who she knows will be there for her no questions asked. After all these years Josh is no longer a boy but is every bit of a protective and possessive man. And is bound and determine to finally keep the one girl that he was terrified of being able to keep.

This story puts an epic twist on a second chance love story and I found myself so quickly pulled into the story that I couldn’t put my kindle down.

Kylie Kent writes obsessive dark characters well and you buy into the plot immediately; what is annoying is how she bulks the book out with so many sex scenes the detail to the plot is lost. For example in the 2nd book the first 11 chapters are made up almost completely of josh and Emily having sex, even though there is a psychopath after her it’s all about “their connection and obsession” the trouble is when she actual gets to the juicy bit of the plot it’s a let down as no time is spent on the gripping climax to the book. So many questions are left unanswered like how and where did she meet Trent In the first place? How did he know she had money but she didn’t? Why pretend the mum was dead? Why keep her as a sex slave? More context to the storyline and a little less sex would balance the book better as the concept was good just lacked delivery!

I really enjoyed both of these books. Both characters had their issues but fit perfectly together. A hard read in parts but was well written.
Loved the ending.
I will be reading more of Kylie’s books.

Loved reading Josh and Emily's story. Josh's passion for Emily is off the charts and Emily proves she's no wilting wall flower and she's the perfect person to understand Josh's obsession's.

I'm reviewing book 2 Runing him.
I like it. I mean I wish the the action was a bit more interspersed but the book was good and the epilogues got me intrigued about the next generation books.

Kylie does it again!

Josh and Emmy’s duet is AMAZING! I love their wounded souls and how they are made for each other! Can’t wait to see what the other McKinley’s have in store!

WORTH THE READ!

The McKinley ranch duet:
Book 1:
This story was captivating. I loved seeing emily and Josh's relationship grow and seeing how protective he is of her. As well as seeing emily grow and start to stand up for herself. I love that josh is her one constant in her life. The fact that emily doesn't let her abuse ruin her sex life with josh definitely shows she trust him. I love how josh fights to protect emily and that emily will stand up for josh.

Book 2:
The fact that josh told Emily that she was a survivor and that he wasn't disgusted with her but what had been done to her but still accepted her made me feel like everything was perfect. I also love how all the men in Josh's life have accepted emily without question. The way Emily has grown and become a bada$$ is just amazing. I love FMCs like that! The author has definitely captured josh and emily perfectly in these two books. The ending was just 😘.
