Orphan Black: The Next Chapter

Rate this book
After a groundbreaking event changes the world, all clones— familiar and unknown— must face the consequences.

Starring Emmy award-winning actress Tatiana Maslany, Realm presents the official continuation of the hit TV series Orphan Black.

Since their victory against Project Leda eight years ago, the original sestras—Sarah, Alison, Cosima, and those they love—have been free to live quiet, anonymous lives. But that anonymity comes at a cost: Cosima is unable to pursue the cutting-edge science that saved her life; Sarah’s daughter Kira is suffocated by her mother’s insistence on secrecy; and Charlotte, the youngest Leda clone, questions why her family gets to survive while other, unaware clones get sick and die.

Everything changes when Vivi Valdez, a CIA Agent, discovers she, too, is a clone—and goes rogue. Vivi’s pursuit of the truth brings chaos to the original Clone Club when one of them is accused of murder. To prove their innocence, they must step out of the shadows and publicly claim the secret they’ve sacrificed everything to protect. Family ties will be tested, long-lasting alliances betrayed, and the future of all clones hangs in the balance.

Orphan Black: The Next Chapter is a Realm production written by Malka Older, Madeline Ashby, Mishell Baker, Heli Kennedy, E.C. Myers, and Lindsay Smith.

The Canadian Clones are at it once more in this delightful extension of the television series. With word now out about clones, we see the repercussions and how one, Blithe, capitalizes on it. Her island oasis of healing seems too good to be true to Vivi Valdez and from there we're off.

Tatiana Maslany once again shows her versatility as the clones and she is well--supported by the rest of the vocal cast. It feels entirely true to the spirit of the original from Allison's reality TV antics to Kassima and Delphine's experimental pregnancy.

Definitely worth a listen to fans of the show.

Enjoyable enough entry to the series. It does have a kind of fanfic vibe though, everyone happily paired off, with babies (if they want them). It was fun though.

Another fun chapter in the Orphan Black series. While I think Season 1 was over all better, I still enjoyed this entry. Sarah takes a backseat to the story and follows more Cosima, Rachel, Charolette and Kira as well as newly created characters. An absolute must for any Orphan Black fan.

Not sure if this is technically a book, but ok.
A good continuation of the TV series, especially season 2 with the return of a lot of the main cast members.

As much as I loved the first season, the second one slightly disappoints. Nothing bad but overall netural, I still form my memories from the TV show and the first season audiobook/podcast. Starting with problems on acquiring this: their youtube playlist doesn't include the last episode (why). The Spotify version is full of ads. Putting these aside, I felt like nothing happened, it wasn't very exciting, it was predictable (I mean the island cult and how to go from there was kind of a one way street). I didn't like (what I guess Charlotte did) that the clones are now public. I much rather liked the secrecy around them. But now that they are out of the closet we are greeted by a politically correct subtext of inclusivity, as the story made them up as a minority group that people can hate. Even if it has ties with real issues I don't expect this when I want to be entertained. I also found it difficult to concentrate (slept in and had to relisten a few episodes). Then I found out that the script is available on realm but it differs from the audio (the text includes more paragraphs that were taken out or said differently - classic problem of trying to read while listening to stay awake). All in all it was a neutral experience, the voice acting is superb but the story way boring for me. Only interesting aspect was that Delphine and Cosima could conceive a child without a male, and I would have loved to listen more on that (I guess it's also possible in the real world or will be soon - but not sure how obsolete that would make us men, lol).

This was calm by comparison to the previous season and the latter seasons of the TV series, but I liked that. Sometimes it becomes overdramatic. As with the first season it remains an ensemble cast. I'm not really in favor of there being an in-universe book called "Orphan Black", an autobiography originally marketed as science fiction that chronicles everything that has happened, minus the parts that would send them to prison. That's mostly because it's just added in as fanservice, but unlike the various other fanservice scenes, it didn't resonate with me.

Following the events of the first season, which was eight months ago, clones have been outed and serve as a stand-in for marginalized people with a few differences. The antagonist is a Goop-like cult of personality with a dark side. They peddle platitudes and junk products to lure vulnerable members in to more easily exploit them. There's various mentions of contemporary issues, some political poking, and memes now and again.

Although this is meant to be a serialized audio work I once again read it instead. I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes. A lot of times it reads more like a script than prose, but that didn't detract overly much for me. There were a few typos and misused words, but I'll say that was because it was meant to be listened to. Yes, I'm quite biased in its favor.

Smartly covers the fallout of Charlotte's outing of the clones, and the inevitable rise and fall of a cult preying on the world's newest vulnerable population. I enjoyed every minute with Maslany and the other original cast members. This is one of Realm's flagship podcasts, with an impressive writing team, and impeccable production quality. I heart Clone Club!

4.5 stars. Not quite as intense of a story as the previous season, but Tatiana's voice characters were still amazing and I loved having Felix, Donnie, and Delphine back.

Now I'm just impatiently waiting for Echoes...

Fantastic. I love the creative new threat in this series. I'm also starting to finally believe that Delphine is really an ethicist. That sure stretched my suspension of disbelief muscles last season.

Loved Season 1. Loved Season 2 possibly even more because of some of the additional voices.
