The Body Remover #1

The Body Remover Vol. 1

Rate this book
It's what he does with your secret; that is the story!

Jeremy Gunn was a young child when he first used his gift. He touched his father's cheek as he peered into his casket and cried. That's when he saw it, his father's darkest secret.

Tormented, he seeks to act on the secrets of the dead. To right the wrongs of people passed, to find the missing, and to avenge the fallen.

Jeremy comes for you when you die, but that's not his gift. His gift is stealing your secret, the one you died with and never told a soul.

More of a character sketch than a novel. There are two separate stories included in the book. The character that they focus on is interesting enough, but he seems to be quite different in his motives and purpose in each. There is the implication in the first one that he had ignored the "secrets" in the past and the rest was not good, but the reader is never given any other information about what happens when he ignores the secret. Also, in the first story, it appears that he is focused on helping put "secrets" to rest. He seems almost reluctant in having to fulfill his role. In the other, it appears that he is driven more to be an avenging angel, which seems rather contradictory because he has almost a gleeful attitude about what he is going to do. That made him a much less sympathetic character. The second story also appears to include a rather strange implication towards alien involvement with the family he is dealing with.

While I was expecting more of an actual novel, the stories were enjoyable enough. This is the first in a series to come. Based on what is here, I won't be continuing on with the series when the next book comes out.

This was a really good story! Well two good stories. I liked the concept and characters and setting. I look forward to reading more in this series. I think this book is well written. There are a few small things that needed editing, but I don't let that get in the way of a good story. I enjoyed it. I really loved that the writer recommended books at the end too. That was cool. I look forward to checking out more and I'd recommend this. It kept me wanting to know what would come next. The suspense is really well done.

Sitting alone in a sunroom with the open windows facing a dark empty woods….Why did I think this was the perfect setting to read this book? Chill bumps.

Enjoyed the short story aspect. I want to know more… more stories and more family history. Can’t wait for vol. 2

Worst editing...

Ever. No way I would recommend this book to anyone. I really can't tell if this bad editing or if the author is just a substandard writer. It's too bad because book's theme is fairly inventive.

Highly recommend

I'm a horror fanatic and found a recommendation for this author from another series author I read. It's definitely not your typical "horror" read, but definitely fits in to the genre in its own way. I absolutely love the way it's written and was completely engrossed. I'll be reading more of this series and checking out the other works by Mr. Lester. Highly recommended!

2 different stories

There were two separate stories in this book, and it feels like they were written by two different authors. The first one I found had a more mature writing style, while the second one felt like it was written by a middle schooler. I did not enjoy it at all, and it left so many questions unanswered. The first one at least tied up the story and had closure. I wish I’d stopped at the first story.

Definitely recommend

I'll admit I stumbled across this title on a recommendation in my Kindle Unlimited and thought let's give it a try.
So happy I did! I thought it was an interesting concept and I liked how the author gave us two different sides of how Jeremy chooses what to do with the secrets.
I am however hoping that at one point we will learn the secret of how Jeremy came to have his gift.

Not sure

So I'm not sure how I felt about this book. The secrets and how he helped the dead was just ok. The last story did not make sense, or it just didn't explain enough with character development. I would have liked to see what the detective reaction was when if caught Jeremy ar the house before him... in stead of that lane excuse.. I wanted Jeremy to trust Hawkins with his secret. It wasn't realistic, what happened to the other bodies

I liked the book, two stories. Won't never win a Nobel Prize in Literature, but it was entertaining, quite easy to read and a good thing, it's not long as those kilometric books one keeps reading and reading without getting near the end. For a good, relaxing time, I recommend it and I will read more from the author.

Very different, and not pleasant but well composed

To say I enjoyed reading the two stories wouldn’t be quite accurate; they aren’t enjoyable except in an intellectual sense. The viewpoint is different, very different, and I had a bit of trouble with the final denouement in the barn-what WAS that!-now waiting for what comes next.

Gruesome to a degree but not gratuitously so.

Fabulous story telling!! Must read

I am an avid reader and always looking for new authors. Olin Lester was recommend by a fav of mine Brandon Faircloth and the book did not disappoint. I couldn’t put it down. The storyline was a new and fresh delivery of good vs evil. I highly recommend to give this author a try. I can’t wait to read his other books.

Really enjoyed this first book in a series and it's got a great set up to make for an interesting series. The Body Remover is a man who takes away the bodies after they've been discovered. But he has a disturbing gift - he is able to sense your deepest darkest secret. So what does he do about it?

This book describes two different stories, but there are more than just two bodies...

This book was ok. It really is an interesting idea, that someone can see people's last thoughts. However, it wasn't a smooth read for me. Also, the main character encounters an alligator/crocodile in a quarry in Colorado, with no explanation of how a creature would get there. It seemed like the author maybe doesn't know American geography and it's native wildlife.

I like it ok enough. It was 2 short stories in which the focus is on Jeremy Gunn, The Body Remover. He is able to learn things from dead people. And what he does with the knowledge is, in some shape, a form of vindication. It was an interesting read. Might read the next volume when it comes out.

unique

Something different. A new type of character. It’s been quite a while since I didn’t stall out halfway through a book. But this one held my interest and left me wanting more.

This is in between for me. Love the story plot and the concept, but do believe the stories were rushed through. Just wishing I had a bit more of a back story to understand fully why he sees and does what he does.

Interesting concept but didn't have the creep factor for me

Jeremy has a gift, he sees the secrets of the dead he comes to retrieve. Most are horrible awful secrets kept by evil people. Sometimes he gets revenge on those with the horrific secrets.

wow!

I did not expect this book to be this good! I picked this one off of Kindle unlimited as it sounded intriguing. I finally got around to reading it today, and I read it in one day! This is a good book and it definitely was not going where I thought it was.

Totally riveting and dark

This was a book I could not put down....it was a tale totally riveting and dark. The characters were very well thought out; as was the storyline! A must read, on to the next book by Olin Lester!

Interesting

A quick satisfying read. Mr.Gunn has a good (and gory) imagination. It's only 2 stories which was kind of upsetting to me as I was expecting more but at least the 2 were good.

A quick read that left me feeling sad, but the best books always bring the biggest emotions. I would have given it a 5, but a lot of the action around the investigations and how the crime scenes were handled was unbelievable.

Read in 1 night! Sooooo good.
Everyone has secrets, but what if someone learns about your biggest, most best kept secret when you die? Would you want it acted upon? Read this book and find out someone else's and how it effected others.

Have not read a really scary book in a while?

Here's one that will keep you reading till the end. There are people whose job is to remove bodies from crime scenes, but none quite like Jeremy Gunn.

This was one spooky guy. While both stories were good, I liked the first story more than the second.
The second story was gruesome and the ending was weird. Aliens? Where did that come from?
I hope the author continues with some more Jeremy Gunn stories. Leave out the aliens!

Title caught my attention

The stories were good ,but lacked something. I was disappointed that they were as short as they were. Others may think differently which is fine.

Clever and well told stories. Not really as scary as the title or book cover leads one to believe.

Do you have a secret you will take to the grave? Beware of the Body Remover.

The story is good, but it is much too short. A better developed storyline would bring this book to the next level. Still, I did enjoy reading it.
