Finish What You Started: Beat Procrastination, End Laziness, Get Things Done and Never Relapse

Rate this book
What would your life look like, if you could Finish What You Started?

Aren't you envious to see people all around you effortlessly achieving so much in life, while you can't - as if something is stopping you - and you're growing anxious and defeated day after day?

I know the feeling because I too was there, before I found the solution.

No matter your goals - whether you are a student, an artist, a writer, an entrepreneur, or are working on a project - if you are going to bed every night with a feeling that you've wasted yet another day and haven't moved forward, this is the book for you.

Based on the latest scientific findings by the most prominent psychologists who dedicated all their lives to understand procrastination, Finish What You Started will show you exactly why you keep postponing the important things in life, and what to do about it. Written in the tradition of the best psychology self help books, it will transform you from a helpless procrastinator to a super achiever.

In Finish What You Started, you'll discover:

- The common myths associated with procrastination, busted by science
- The ONE simple hack that stopped me from getting distracted ever
- What psychologists have found to be the exact cause of procrastination
- How to recognize what type of procrastinator you are - and find a solution that works for you
- The easy technique I learnt to achieve my long-term goals
- How a simple tip a friend told me will keep you procrastination-free forever
and much more...

I used to be a disaster. During college I'd play videogames until the day before an exam. All my side projects failed because I'd end up watching Netflix instead of working on them.
I'd always, always, find something else to do.
One day, though, I decided it was time to understand why my behavior was eating my life.
Two years later, I'm now healthier and happier, I completed my master's degree without pulling all-nighters, wrote this book and I'm currently finishing my second. All while holding a full-time job.
And you, what would you accomplish if you were able to finish what you started?

We are only remembered by the things we completed, not by what we 'wanted to do, but never finished'.
Ultimately, do you want to be forgotten, or make an impact?

If you're serious about improving yourself and wish to choose the life you want, don't let yet another 'procrastination-ridden' day go by.

A short book on procrastination with some interesting insights and ideas. According to Rosen, procrastination stems from trying to avoid difficult emotions - overwhelm, anxiety, boredom, self-doubt, frustration, fear etc. Procrastination provides temporary relief but creates a vicious cycle, which can be changed by creating a more goal-oriented mindset and learning to regulate emotions and delay gratification. Probably easier said than done!

He identified 3 types of procrastinators...
1) Self-deception and planning failures ("I work better under pressure! I have loads of time to get it done!")
2) Fears & Insecurities ("It has to be perfect! It's too overwhelming!")
3) Lack of motivation & rewards too distant in the future and unconnected with present self ("Too boring/difficult! I'll just go on my phone instead for a minute...")

... and advocates self-compassion and problem-solving rather than criticism and regrets. He gives ideas for the three types and recommends writing things down & regular review to see where you got stuck or distracted.

I think I must be Type 3 because it all seems a bit too much like hard work to me. Think I'll just go and write a book review instead...

Highly recommend.

I read a lot of self-help books and always get something from them. However, I’m rarely surprised and impressed with the information provided. This book did surprise me. Yes, it was well-written and well organized, but it was also full of information, direction, and suggestions I’ve not seen before. (Maybe I’m reading the wrong self-help books?) I believe this is information most of us could use, whether we suffer mild levelsof procrastination or are chronic procrastinators. Either way, I highly recommend it.

A quick and easy read that may give you the basis for a new perspective.

(side note: Not Sure why the paperback version ISBN 979-8-9857158-0-4 isn't found on here... I'm not an e-reader type person. Hard copies only.)
