Ruri Dragon was an unlikely school slice-of-life manga title that ran together with other mostly battle manga in a shonen magazine. From the get-go, it stood out from those other shonen titles.
Incidentally, that was just like the premise of the manga, a lone dragon girl that found herself alone and apart from her human classmates. The lone dragon girl who must quickly figure out what other gifts her draconic heritage brought her, along with the two horns that adorned her head.
In its first run on the Manga Plus app, I, along with numerous other readers, enjoyed this series because it was just so different from Jujutsu Kaisen, My Hero Academia, or Chainsawman. Then it disappeared for a while.
The title entered a lengthy hiatus. Though the absence made its readers' hearts fonder, it was not the case for this reader. My tastes for manga changed in the interregnum. It didn't hit the same for me anymore.
I'm a sucker for slice-of-life manga/anime. It would be four stars if not for the translator's hamfisted overuse of millennial-speak. I'm sorry, but it's totes cringe, and I felt the need to clap back at it.
Hay cosas demasiado inverosímiles que slstsn a la vista, por otro lado Ruri es un personaje carismático que seguramente se desarrollará más en los próximos tomos
Note: This is my rating and review for the entire series.
This series is a fresh breath of air for Shonen Jump. It is a slice of life about a girl who is part human part-dragon. One day at school she sprouts horns on head and brwathes fire on a nearby student in class.
This is her story about trying to deal with her newfound abilities and still trying ti live a normal life. It’s nothing brilliant writing wise, but it is simply relaxing and makes me smile.
More of a 3.5 star rating; Read the official English translation through an app called “MANGA Plus by SHUEISHA”. Aoki is an amusing character and her laziness is pretty relatable. While others may say the start is boring, I like what was presented in this first volume and hope that the mangaka’s health gets better so this series can continue.
