Crimson Tears #0.5

Moonlight Love and Witchcraft

Rate this book
“I love you. And I need you like the blood in my veins. Without you I wouldn’t be me.”

A werewolf and a vampire with an unbreakable bond. A cute witch fleeing her home for a crime she may or may not have committed. A burning desire for something more between them.

Years after becoming a vampire, Logan is finally on track to their goal: Making it big in the music industry with the support of their band and their girlfriend Kay, protector of the local supernatural community. For all its issues, with her by their side, Logan’s life is perfect. But when a new girl comes to town, Nemo, everything abruptly becomes much more complicated and Logan can’t ask Kay for help anymore. Because to do that, they’d have to admit to her that they’ve fallen for someone else…

Nemo, having fled her home for a crime she totally didn’t commit, finds a welcome distraction in Logan’s friendship. But her thoughts quickly become haunted by them and their gorgeous girlfriend…

As Kay realizes that what’s going on between Logan and Nemo exceeds the bounds of friendship, she has to make a choice: Keep her partner all to herself, or encourage them to explore their feelings, and explore her own. To let love make them one, or perhaps tear them apart.

Note
This is a cozy, low stakes romance. There is no plot other than cuteness, cuddling, and emotion. This is intentional, as is Nemo being hyperactive and excitable. As two authors with ADHD, we are happy to bring our own identities into our characters, and those of our friends. Please keep these things in mind as you read the book, as they are literally the meat and bones of it. If you are looking for a high plot romance with a lot of conflict and brooding, introspective characters beaten down by the world at age 25, this not the book for you.
To those looking for ace rep, cuddling, cute vibes, and neurodivergence, happy reading!

This is the cuddliest, sweetest, warmest threesome love story, involving werewolves and witches and vampires in the history of reading!
It felt like I was part of one warm, never-ending embrace.

I love Kay and Logan as a couple and Nemo is an incredibly sweet and bubbly addition.
All of the characters are lovable and it's a great community that i wish to be a part of :)
If you like it sweet and tender and are simply satisfied with extremely beautiful moments between lovers, this is the right story for you.

If you expect more, you should keep your hands off before writing a negative review, just because you expect hotter scenes.
They are not necessary in this constellation.
The MC's love each other very much and it becomes extremely clear with every look and every whispered word.
The moments of blood drinking are very intimate and wonderfully romantic.
I have a soft spot for Kay! What an amazing character. Would love to receive her cuddles ;)

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

WOW, WOW, WOW!! I continue to be incredibly impressed with Vaela Denarr and Micah Iannandrea. I'm so glad they released another book so soon, because after The Price of Blood I had a serious book hangover- this did just the trick!

Moonlight Love and Witchcraft is so sweet and fluffy it's practically cavity-inducing (in the best way possible). It felt so wholesome and pleasant to read. Nemo's enthusiasm made me fall even more in love with Logan and Kay, which I think speaks to how convincing these characters are. It's definitely a very different tone than their other work, so props to the authors for their range!

Regular switches in point of view created a balanced narrative where I didn't feel like any one person dominated. I really appreciated how the authors managed those switches as well, because character personalities stayed present during their sections- Nemo's bubbly, endless enthusiasm was contrasted nicely with Kay's more serious demeanor. While their budding relationship was central to the story, I appreciated that it wasn't the only thing going on for everyone.

This is a wonderful prequel to The Price of Blood and it's gotten me very excited to see what comes next. I loved hearing more about these characters' backstories, although I'm left desperately curious about Nemo's past. I'd love to hear more about that in a future book!

Speaking of future books, I saw that there's something to do with dragons coming out soon. Not to be *too* big a fan, but count me in for that! I just can't get enough of Vaela Denarr and Micah Iannandrea. I'm even considering picking up a physical copy once they become available!

What a warm hug of a book. This book follows Kay, Logan, and Nemo in this standalone prequel to The Gift of Blood. The story gives background information to the formation of the polygamous relationship in The Gift of Blood.

I would classify this book as a low angst romance in an urban fantasy setting. There are werewolve, vampires, and witches but the story plays out as a light, warmhearted romance. It gives lots of cuddly happy feelings as these characters navigate their changing and growing feelings for each other.

I was surprised at how many side characters from The Gift of Blood where given more background information, and to see how this found family was formed. There are still a few more characters I am interested in knowing more about, but Denarr does a great job giving the side characters some growth while not detracting from the 3 main characters.

All in all, this was a fun, light-hearted and low angst romance that will give you the feels. I would recommend this to fans of romance or looking for some poly rep.

Book stuff:
This book is a very lovely story about 3 people falling in love and it really helped to ground me and make me feel safe in a time of great uncertainty in my life. The story is relaxing, the characters are relatable as hell, and the use of she/they pronouns was really refreshing to me personally.

Personal stuff: if you want to read it go ahead
I have ADHD, so reading words instead of listening to them has always been really hard for me. So before this book I hadn’t read a book willingly for fun in 8 years. This book helped change that. If you like healthy relationships, lovable characters, and acceptance than I HIGHLY recommend you read this book

I'd give Nemo my blood ;-)

Moonlight Love and Witchcraft is kind of like a prequel to The Gift of Blood. (Different MCs but same world) You should get both of these books, but I can’t decide which order would be best to read them. I read them in release order so even though I knew how this book would end I still found it very enjoyable. In fact, there were points while I was reading that really had me slightly worried/concerned about how things would turn out… but that really says something, because I already knew how things would turn out. These co-authors, Veela Denarr and Micah Iannandrea, really created an amazing supernatural world for you to fall in love with. Which is what this book is all about.

In my opinion Kay and Logan are the heart of this world. This book is their story/journey. You learn about what makes them tick and get a glimpse of a defining time in their lives. (Because Logan is old, but Kay is really old) I’m sure there are many more journeys that could be told. Next, Enter Nemo… who just makes everyone smile. (everyone being the characters plus the reader) Nemo brings the out a hilarious sometimes darkly twisted side that keep that will make you laugh out loud. This is a sweet, happy, and easy to read love story. While some misunderstandings may happen, there is really no conflict or angst. I love the writing style where you get each of the main character’s point of view so it’s not so one dimensional. There is so much more I could add, but you should get the book and see for yourself. If you are looking for a lovable, lighthearted, and sweet love story… this is it.

3.5

Moonlight Love and Witchcraft is the first book I’ve read by Vaela Denarr and Micah Iannandrea, a prequel to their earlier release, The Gift of Blood. A very sweet and fluffy urban fantasy romance, Moonlight focuses on the developing polyamorous relationship between Nemo and a long-established couple, Kay and Logan.

I’m delighted that this book exists: polyam romance between fem and non binary characters is a rarity. It’s also refreshing to see polyam romance that doesn’t emphasise sex: Kay, identifies as asexual, and neither of her lovers ever pressures her to have sex. From her comments within the text, Nemo is potentially also on the asexuality spectrum.

Reviews within the Sapphic Book Group have been very warm for both of Denarr and Iannandrea’s books, but this one didn’t entirely work for me. Although there is an early plot line featuring secrets and a threat, this fizzles out, and I found the pacing a little slow for my taste. For readers who are looking for a charming low stakes fantasy romance, however, this book should more than fit the bill.

Many thanks to BookSirens for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest review!

Moonlight Love and Witchcraft by Vaela Denarr and Micah Iannandrea is a prequel to The Gift of Blood, which the author couple had published back in March of this year (the leads in both books are different, but they're set within the same fantasy universe). Even though I haven't read The Gift of Blood, I still had such an enjoyable time with Moonlight Love and Witchcraft, which centers around a polyamorous romance involving Logan, a goth non-binary vampire; Kay, their asexual werewolf girlfriend; and Nemo, a bisexual witch who suddenly shows up in town while running away from the law under mysterious circumstances.

This was heartwarming to dive into, what with how much I was rooting for the MCs and wanted to hang out with them. They're just so damn endearing and sweet, and I was sad to leave them once the book was finished. This is very much a character-driven story that takes an easygoing approach to its pacing, though, so don't expect anything that's majorly plot-driven or moves at a rapid speed. As for the spice, there's little of it depicted on the page, but it isn't necessary for this romance, which aims to be cuddly and lighthearted. The inclusivity, of course, is splendid, displaying a range for the MCs and the supporting cast that I've rarely seen in other books. The publishing industry should aspire to elevate their queer rep to such high standards.

I do think the writing needs to be polished up, especially in regard to the prose's repetitive tendencies. There were plenty of moments where characters would engage in specific physical gestures and personality quirks over and over; cutting down on them would have helped to make the reading experience smoother.

Overall, Moonlight Love and Witchcraft is as relaxing to breeze through as it is lovable, and it leaves me adding The Gift of Blood to my TBR pile.

Just so cute and full of fluff and love!

This book has multiple POVs and each voice is so strong, whether it’s Nemo and her bubbly personality or Kay with her stoic strength.

“She liked using glitter in makeup. Mila always had to limit how much she got. She liked having some in her pockets in case someone startled or ambushed her, to throw at them.” Nemo I love you so much

My library doesn’t have any more books by these authors and I’m so sad. Time to go fill out the request forms! I love this universe and I want to read every book about these sexy strong and very gay women.

An extremely delightful and beautiful story about different types of love between lots of diverse people. This book was so filled with light and acceptance and compassion that it was a joy to read. I have to mention that this book is very character-driven so there's not a lot of action, but, for those who want to read a story about endearing characters being sweet and falling in love, this is just what they're looking for.

So this book is as described by the authors themselves all about sapphic pining. If you're looking for something big and dramatic this probably isn't for you. It's about one cute little witch pining for a buff ace werewolf and a goth non binary vamp and slowly winning them over. Yes it's as cute as it sounds. Can be read before or after the gift of blood without too much worry. The characters cross over but the stories are separate enough.

This was incredibly cheesy but sometimes it’s nice to take a breather from what I usually read in fantasy. Make it normal for fantasy to just be about supernatural beings being happy and in love.

This is the second poly fantasy romance that I’ve read. The first time around was okay, so I was interested in delving a bit further into the genre. Sadly, I think I have to come to the conclusion that it simply isn’t for me.

In this book, there really is no plot. And that’s fine. When I read a romance, it usually isn’t for a super deep and complex plotline. But this was such a long novel… at 500+ pages it’s by far the longest romance I’ve ever read, and I feel like it was way too much for me. It was hard to stay interested the entire way through, because it felt like a whole lot of nothing was happening and I could never really get into the story. I might’ve enjoyed it more had it been 300-350 pages, as most romances are.

I also didn’t love the characters. I liked Kay, and I think that in another novel or context I could have actually really appreciated her. Logan was okay too. Maybe a bit uninteresting, but I actually really enjoyed the moments between them and Kay. They’re so sweet together and who wouldn’t love a super tall & buff werewolf girlfriend? My big problem was with Nemo. She really irked me, so it was hard to fall in love with her relationship with the other two because I didn’t connect to her at all. I sometimes wanted to skip the sections that were from her pov altogether because no matter what, I couldn’t get myself to like her. Which was a big problem for me considering that the entire plot of the story is her falling in love with Logan and Kay…

The thing is, I think Denarr and Iannandrea are actually good authors, and I would even consider reading some of their other works (albeit not in the same genre). It really isn’t a bad-written novel, and I think it has some potential within its specific subgenre. So, if you’re looking just for cutesy gay pining and fluff (and nothing else), this might actually be the book for you. It just clearly wasn’t for me, and as much as I wanted to enjoy it, I probably would have DNFed it had it not been an ARC.

Reading this was like receiving the warmest hug ever. All of the characters are sweet, all of them are queer and they all felt so right. I loved all the different kind of love we got to see. The love between siblings, between partners, between friends and the love between our mains characters.
Reading this was just so fluffy. I can’t explain it better. Also everyone is super GAY.
and now I want a big werewolf girlfriend too. Pls.

was gay, easy to read
very fluffy I can see why it’d be difficult for some people to get though since it is very low stakes
but I liked it! Didn’t want something that was too intense and this filled the void nicely 🫡

I really wanted to love this book. It had everything I'm looking for lately: a romance light on angst, a fluff fest, with a very diverse cast of characters. I'm NB and on the ace spectrum, so having that representation was a bonus. Add a little fantasy to the mix, and I was sure I had just found a new comfort read.

But no, this book did not do it for me, at all. Mainly because of the writing, I think. First, there's so. Much. Repetition. Words, expressions, actions, scenes,... Cute and quirky mannerisms, actions and even love professions became annoying and/or boring really fast.
This book could have been a 100 pages shorter (or more), easily. I really struggled to finish reading the last 20% because of this (I wanted to see Nemo's, Logan's and Kay's happy ending, so I pushed through), half of the text was stuff you already read 10 times before.

Second, I didn't feel the cuteness, the love and the pining all that much. The authors spend a lot more time telling instead of showing. For example, I love the opening scene between Kay and Logan, their interactions there shows us a lot about them and how they feel about each other (the band is important to Logan, Kay is protective of Logan and of their solo time, they both love to cuddle and share warmth and closeness, Logan is easily flustered by Kay). But for a vast majority of the book, characters just describe how they're feeling. All the time. And so you get tons of internal monologues, that are, again, repeated several times, and it just doesn't work for me.

There are scenes that do work for me, and I'm awwing in front of our three protagonists. But they are few and far between. And the pining... I really didn't feel it. There were some moments, especially from Nemo. But for most of it, I didn't feel it, and when Logan finally asked Nemo out, it came out of left field for me. .

I also might not be the target audience for this. I think this would suit a YA audience better. Even though the characters are all adults (and some are quite old), most of them read very young. Lots of pouting, giggling, blushing, being inexperienced. Set the characters in high school and they would mostly fit. Nothing wrong with that, but I wasn't expecting it.

And finally, more could have been done with the world building. It's a romance, I don't mind that the focus is on the relationships, but since it is placed in a fantasy world I'd have liked to learn more about it. There's also some plot elements introduced, but it's totally irrelevant. Nemo fleeing her home doesn't contribute anything to the story, she could have just decided to move to Kay's part of town and the story would have been 99.9% the same. Logan's ambitions with her band is teased in the blurp, but again isn't really of any real importance. I also would have loved some more backstory on Logan's and Kay's love story. Or Logan's story. We do get some backstory on Kay, but we get some elements explained at random times, you basically have to piece her story together throughout the book. The characters are lovable, and I wish them all the best. The authors said this was first meant to be a compilation of short stories, and I can see that here.

Again, I really wanted to like this. It is a very cute book filled with love and acceptance and compassion, and I did appreciate that. The author's other book has more of a plot, has more action, so I will try it out, hopefully it will be more my speed.

This is a heartwarming story with cosy vibes. It has convincing characters with distinct personalities who pull you along for the ride as they navigate relationships and changing feelings. It’s a feel-good read seeing the way they all care about each other and support one another.

It’s a low angst romance in an urban fantasy setting - it has interesting supernatural elements. It also has a positive message to be true to yourself and be open with others. It celebrates individuality and embracing who we are. The story gives a positive look at love, relationships and friendship. It’s a fun, warm, happy read.

Moonlight Love and Witchcraft is best described as a book about vibes rather than character or plot which is not for everyone but I wanted to give it a try having read and very much enjoyed another book by this writing team. The opening is strong, I felt like I really got an insight into Kay and Logan and the dynamics of their relationship in the first couple of chapters as well as enough broad strokes to give me an idea of the setting and magic system and I settled in for a cute and cosy werewolf/vampire romance. Where it fell slightly off for me was with the character of Nemo, the new girl in town who becomes a third in a polyamorous relationship with Logan and Kay. She came across as very juvenile despite being described as 25 in the book, in fact if it hadn't been explicitly stated I would have put her closer to fourteen or fifteen from the way her thoughts were described and her constant vacillation between giggling and whining. I understand the direction the authors were taking given their introduction, but it just didn't hit for me, especially given how much more mature the other characters were. All that being said, I really loved the characters of Logan and Kay in particular, and there were great examples of found family and strong friendships throughout the book. I can see how many readers could enjoy the cosiness and cuteness of the book and I think there is some really strong writing on display and a lot of potential in this team.

Healthy polyamory is basically the centre of Kay, Logan and Nemo story. It was a concept that was well crafted by the authors.

This is my first time to read a threesome story that is wholesome in all sense and form and would not argue about it.

It was quite hard to follow though, the main characters story from the start as I cannot pick up the story where it is leading to until it came to portraying the healthy polyamory story between the main characters because this is when the story make sense and had its consistency. Although Kay and Logan's relationship has been obviously established from the start of the book. The stories before introducing the healthy polyamory seems to be a blur or an add on story and some of it was somehow a backstory.

I would agree with the author saying that this book is supposed to be a compilation of short stories bringing it to one. As it seems like reading short stories in between chapters of the book.

Not probably everyone's cup of tea but would recommend for anyone who like werewolves with a vampire and a witch in a polyamory story can read Kay, Logan and Nemo.

Reading this book was a little bit what eating an entire sheet cake by yourself feels like: thoroughly delightful, but you practically have sugar coming out of your ears by the end.
This was a very fluffy read, just a little too sweet for me overall. I felt like the characters were a little bit one-dimensional with how constantly in love with each other they were, but it could also be that I have overdosed on burnt-out-cynical-poor-communicator-savior-protagonists and am just not used to the level of genuine affection, communication, and general lack of conflict.

Such an adorable book! All I want now are cuddles! The authors did say this book was a book of cuddles and it definitely is. I enjoyed the warmth and beauty of Kay and Logan's relationship. There was some angst when Nemo came into the picture, but the journey they all take was very real and interesting. I really enjoyed how protective Kay is, how cuddly Logan is, and how energetic/funny Nemo was with her sometimes dark humor. Overall, this book left me wanting to cuddle and laugh at all the chaos only werewolves, vampires, and witches can get themselves into.

This book is everything it advertises; it has asexual rep, nonbinary, polyamorous, WLW, and more. This book is all fluff, which is fine, I have just learned that I need a plot that is not just fluff. It was a real struggle for me to get through the last 100 pages because it was a cutiesy fluff. If that is what you are into, then man have I found the book for you. I have learned that this genre is not for me, maybe I will try again another time, far into the future.
