Earth's the Right Place for Love: A Novel

Rate this book
This beautiful new novel by the beloved author of Open House and Talk Before Sleep tells the story of two young people growing up in Mason, Missouri, and how Arthur Moses, a shy young man, becomes the wise and compassionate person readers loved in The Story of Arthur Truluv .

Nola McCollum is the most desirable girl in Arthur’s class, and he is thrilled when they become friends. But Arthur wants far more than friendship. Unfortunately, Nola has a crush on the wrong Moses—Arthur’s older brother, Frank, who is busy pursuing his own love interest and avoiding the boys’ father, a war veteran with a drinking problem and a penchant for starting fights. When a sudden tragedy rocks the family’s world, Arthur struggles to come to terms with his grief. In the end, it is nature that helps him to understand how to go on, beyond loss, and create a life of forgiveness and empathy. But what can he do about Nola, who seems confused about what she wants in life, and only half aware of the one who loves her most?

Full of unforgettable characters and written with Elizabeth Berg’s characteristic warmth, humor, and insight into people, Earth’s the Right Place for Love is about the power of kindness, character, and family, and how love can grow when you least expect it.

Earth’s the right place for love I don’t know where it's likely to go better. - Robert Frost

I adored this book. I liked all the characters, even the father with his issues, you could tell he was a good man at heart, a good man who went through some tough times. He made mistakes, in those days it wasn't manly for fathers/husbands to need help, especially those of the emotional kind. I really loved Arthur and Frank's relationship, they were my favourite characters in the book. They weren't just brothers, they were friends. As sad as this book was in some parts it is also full of hope, joy and love. Elizabeth Berg always manages to absorb me into her writing, placing me right there with her well-thought-out characters and she manages to evoke many emotions in me with her prose.

What a superb book with characters so unique and vivid that you get to know them well. It isn’t just strong characterizations that make this a five-star read. The plot races along, pulling you with it so that it is impossible to put the book down. Is it sentimental? Yes, but it is a worthy sentimental. It is a story about life and it is profoundly insightful, Elizabeth Berg is a true storyteller. Berg is my favourite author and I recommend this entire series and everything else she has written. So rich. So beautiful. I hated for it to end. All. The. Stars.

I have not enough words to express how much I loved Arthur Moses: that one of a kind, honest, quirky, smart, sensitive, gentle, introvert sixteen year old boy stole my heart! Each time NolaMcCollum breaks tiny pieces of his heart, I ache and hurt for him!

This is amazing historical fiction, a heartfelt family story! It also questions true nature of love, tight bond of brotherhood, self growth, finding your own space and purpose in life!

Character development was perfect! I loved Arthur and Frank’s relationship even more than Arthur and Nola’s friendship- unrequited love story!

Frank is a looker, aspiring future writer, bold, straightforward, doer as his brother Arthur is observer, empathic, looking at the world from his unique perspective, having encyclopedic knowledge about trees.

Arthur is mostly lonely boy and his best friend is his brother. When the lights go out, they lie in their beds at the room they share and talk about secrets. His brother tells him his dreams to move to NYC to become a writer, his secret relationship with his school teacher, his plans to marry with her in the near future as Arthur tells him he has a big crush on Nola McCollum by omitting the fact that she approached him to give her phone number to Frank for finding out a chance if Frank gets interested to go out with her.

Their father suffer from anger management issues, barely making ends meet and reflecting his anger to Frank! Their dysfunctional relationship affects the family dynamics. The boys sometimes question their mother’s choice to marry with their own father!

Then one day an uneventful tragedy changes everything about their daily peaceful lives!

The book made me so much cry! It hurt me more than I expected! Each character story touched my heart. They were so real and well crafted.

I also loved the conclusion which made me scream: “finally “! I’m dabbing my eyes and getting more thankful to read this brilliant book that healed my soul!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for sharing this amazing digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts .

I never forget Arthur Moses who will become future Arthur Truluv!

Earth’s the Right Place for Love gives us the backstory of Arthur Moses, otherwise known as Arthur Truluv. The book takes place in 1947, when Arthur is sixteen. He’s got an older brother, Frank who wants to be a writer. His father is a war veteran with a drinking problem and a habit of using his fists when he’s angry. Poor Arthur has a bad crush on the lovely Nola, but she only thinks of him as a friend.
This moving story engaged me from the beginning. It’s funny how sometimes a book doesn’t need a lot of action to capture your attention. I just wanted to see how things would work out for these folks. There are several sad moments but to be honest I found I was crying more for the happy ones. “You didn’t have to be a guy chucking a football to another guy to have a friend. You could have an odd boy and a crazy old lady and a beautiful young woman for friends. You could have a brother, the guy you could say anything to and ask any question of.”
The story is sweet and perfectly evokes the after war years.

Oh.. that sweet man Arthur Moses from the story Arthur Truluv, was just as sweet as a kid growing up in the same town we found him in, in the first novel.
A great son, brother, friend and neighbor he was.. just so endearing
Truly a joy meeting Arthur here in his younger years and his love blossoming for his Nola.
A very sweet read.

If you fell in love with Arthur in The Story of Arthur Truluv like I did, you won’t want to miss this one. It’s about Arthur’s earlier years beginning when he is 16 and we come to know that even as a teenager he was kind and loving. It’s an easy read, and at times pretty light. Yet Berg doesn’t shy away from the not so easy realities of life - a not so perfect family, dysfunctional one could easily say, alcoholism, depression, loneliness, grief. There are also some bright spots - a wonderful relationship between two brothers different as night and day, but bonded by their love for each other, the beauty of unexpected friendships, Arthur’s connection to nature, his undying love for Nola. While Arthur is an endearing character, so kind, so sweet, seemingly too good to be true , how good it is for the soul to believe there are some truly good people . 3.5 rounded up because it kept me reading and was just what I needed right now. I’ve have not been fully engaged on Goodreads for personal reasons and in a huge reading slump . What better way to try to pull myself out than to read with my long time Goodreads friend and reading buddy Diane .

If you have not read a book by Elizabeth Berg you are missing out. If you have not gotten acquainted with Arthur Moses/Truluv you are seriously missing out. I loved becoming acquainted with the kind, caring, wise and compassionate Arthur Truluv in The Story of Arthur Truluv, the first book in the Mason series.

In Earth's the Right Place for Love, readers get a glimpse of Arthur as a teen when he meets Nola McCollum. We see him as a shy young man who has a crush on Nola and spending time with his older brother Frank who has a love interest of his own. I enjoyed seeing Arthur interact with his brother asking and receiving advice. They had a close bond which was sweet to read about.

This book was charming and a lovely way to see Arthur as a young man finding his way. We see him be happy, suffer loss, yearn for another, and fall in love.

This was a well written and thoughtful book. I enjoy Elizabeth's writing and the compassion she shows for her characters. Their reactions, feelings, and interactions feel real. I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

’I'd like to get away from earth awhile
And then come back to it and begin over.
May no fate willfully misunderstand me
And half grant what I wish and snatch me away
Not to return. Earth’s the right place for love:
I don’t know where it's likely to go better.’

From “Birches’ by Robert Frost

I love it when an author includes a quote that sets a tone for the journey that I’m about to take, and this was the perfect one for this book. While the story is not about trees, they frequently grace the pages in this story.

Set in Mason, Missouri this begins in 2016, as Arthur Moses is looking back on the years. It stays there briefly - not even quite a full page, and then he shares the story of his life, beginning in 1947, as spring has arrived, and Arthur Moses is 16-years-old. His life at home isn’t exactly happy or unhappy, but there is a sense of tension that revolves around his father. Life is changing and the ‘old ways’ are close to the brink of extinction, including his father’s job, a milk-man, which creates some tense moments in their home as he has few skills that could get him a job. Arthur’s older brother, Frank, is who Arthur turns to for advice about the girl he is in love with, Nola. He’s sure she’s the one, but she only has eyes for Frank. Frank shares a little advice, and then shares that he, himself, is in love - but not with Nola. He encourages Arthur to not give up, and offers the best advice he has with Arthur, and shares his own story of love. As brothers that share a room, they often talk late into the night, careful not to disturb their parents - especially their father who rarely chastises Arthur, but is abusive with Frank. The abuse affects them both, regardless.

Arthur is a gentle soul, if not quite as wise in the world of romance, but with his brother’s advice, he tries to navigate a way for Nola to see him as more than just a friend. His love of trees, his love of this place and the people who live there, his willingness to help others share the beauty of him as a person, but will Nola ever see him as someone she could love?

There is more to this story, a tragedy that affects the town, as well as a personal tragedy which also affects this small town in a different way, but there is also much kindness, and a path to love.

A story of grief, loss, love and finding the strength to carry on. A story of life.

*now widely available

I’ve read many Elizabeth Berg novels, but it’s been too long! I was reminded of all the reasons why I love her writing with this one.

This one is really a prequel to The Story of Arthur Truluv, which I read back in 2018. We meet Arthur as a teen as he is growing up in Mason, Missouri. He has a wonderful relationship with his older brother Frank, although all the girls seem to swoon for Frank.

We experience all of Arthur’s angst at being the good friend to the girl he’s in love with, Nola. She’s beautiful and has lots of attention from boys but she just sees Arthur as a best friend.

There are some great experiences where Arthur helps lonely people in his town and becomes a better person as a result. The book is lighthearted but explores some tougher issues like grief. The characters are so well-developed. I loved the way that Arthur knew that he loved his hometown and never wanted to leave.

This one left me with such a contented feeling and a few tears sprang up at the end.

My thanks to Random House for the chance to read and review this one.

Earth's the right place for love:

Sometimes it feels right to read something light, something where kindness and love for all are forefront, something written by Elizabeth Berg. A sentimental story that, like all the books in this series, tug at your heartstrings.

Elizabeth Berg has penned a beautifully written coming of age story. The imagery gives a clear picture of the small town of Mason, Missouri and Arthur's family life. He wrestles with first love, abuse in the family, struggles with algebra, working for people in the town and building friendships, a tragedy, grief and loss. Arthur's romantic interst is Nola, but she's not ready to settle down with just one guy - she's in that experimental stage where she's dating and trying to find her own way. Arthur had a strong bond with his brother. He showed characteristics of thoughtfulness, compassion, and a readiness to help others. Everyone liked him - and so did I; very much.

I truly enjoyed the time spent with this book. Elizabeth Berg is a talented author and I've liked most of what I've read by her. If you have read The Story of Arthur Truluv you will enjoy reading about the young Arthur.

Thanks to Random House Publishing Group through Netgalley for an advance copy of this beautiful book. The book will be published on March 21, 2023.

*3.5 stars rounded up. In her latest novel set in Mason, Missouri, Elizabeth Berg pens a prequel to her Arthur Truluv novels. We meet Arthur as a young teen growing up in small town America in the 50s with his older brother, Frank. Arthur is a bit of a loner, not into sports or any of those popular teen things but he does feel a deep connection to the natural world: it gives him a feeling of 'expansiveness and peace.' And he has formed a deep crush on a classmate named Nola, a lovely and popular girl. But for Arthur, 'the course of true love never did run smooth.' Will they ever be more than just good friends?

This is a heart-warming story about family, friendships and love. It's written in such a way that takes the reader back to simpler times and small-town living. Arthur is truly a remarkable character whom it's been a pleasure to get to know.

I received an arc of this new novel from the author and publisher via NetGalley--many thanks! My review is voluntary and the opinions expressed are entirely my own.

What we can appreciate about this author is her devotion to character. We first meet Arthur Moses in “The Story of Arthur Truluv.”https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

He may not have made much of an impression to us then, and it isn’t important for us to go back and read that book, in order for us to read this one, but sometimes she likes to do this with her characters… develop them more – so she comes up with a new book.

And this is what she has done with “Earth’s the Right Place for Love.”

As we follow along on Arthur’s story, we meet him first as an older man before venturing back into his earlier years.

Continuing with his story as readers we see him through family tragedy and his great devotion to his one true love Nola.

Will he end up happily ever after?

Stay with this one to the end. You will not be disappointed.

Closing point...

This is also the end of her series. They can all be read as standalone, but it is more fun if you follow along in the series.

The second in this series was: Night of Miracles...https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

The third in this series is The Confession Club...https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Arthur is a high school student in Mason, Missouri who has a crush on popular Nola McCollum. She is more interested in Arthur's popular older brother, Frank; Nola has placed Arthur in the friend zone. Arthur likes life in the small town, but after a terrible tragedy, he has to adjust to his new reality. If you enjoyed Berg's Book, The Story of Arthur Truluv, you might like to read about Arthur's formative years. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Master storyteller Elizabeth Berg rewinds her popular The Story of Arthur Truluv (5 stars) novel (Mason series) for a prequel (Mason .5) —EARTH'S THE RIGHT PLACE FOR LOVE. Readers get a look at Arthur Moses in his younger years for a charming, heartfelt, and emotional coming-of-age tale.

Set in the forties to early 1950s in Missouri, we get the backstory of Arthur Moses, otherwise known as Arthur Truluv. Arthur is sixteen years old with an older brother Frank who is an inspiring writer.

Arthur and Frank are very close and spend much time at night in their twin beds talking about their passions, love, and life.

Their father is a war veteran with PTSD and a drinking problem. He is abusive, especially with Frank, and violent. The dad has problems since he lost his job and cannot find work.

The loving mom just tries to maintain peace. The boys cannot understand why she stays with him. The boys have to walk on eggshells when they are home. They love their mother but fear their dad, and his violet rages.

Arthur is a quiet, sweet, thoughtful boy—an old soul and wise beyond his years. He is different from the popular, good-looking boys like his brother Frank. He is smitten with a girl named Nola.

They are friends, but she does not like him in a boyfriend-girlfriend way. However, she does have a crush on Frank, but he is having a secret affair with his English teacher, Mary.

Arthur is such a loveable boy, a hard worker, runs errands for the neighbors, and tends flowers and gardening with a widowed lady, and she enjoys talking with him.

Taking advice from Frank, Arthur works up the nerve to ask Nola to the movies, only to have their date called off when a tornado rips through town and other issues. However, he does not give up, even when she leaves town and he walks her to the bus stop.

Mary is pregnant, and Frank's plans for them to move to New York change when there is an accident. A tragedy occurs, and Arthur is grieving. His dad finds a job and raises his spirits, and Arthur's luck finally changes for a happy ending with Nola and his neighbor's house with the rose garden.

What a nostalgic, beautiful story of love, loss, and joy. Fans of Berg and the Mason series will enjoy this one, as well as fans of author Catherine Ryan Hyde and Fredrik Backman.

A big fan of Elizabeth Berg, I enjoy her writing and heart-warming characters blended with humor and insights. I loved the close relationship between the two brothers and fell in love with Arthur and his love of nature and trees.

I have been an Elizabeth Berg fan for many years and have read at least half a dozen of her previous works (but not The Story of Arthur Truluv, the inspiration for this sequel). I can honestly say that Earth's the Right Place for Love is my favorite.
Charming is such an old fashioned word but it absolutely was charming, warm, and comforting like my grandmother's sponge cake fresh from the oven. We follow Arthur from preadolescence into adulthood. He is a good boy, a nice boy and remains that way throughout. He idolizes his older brother and is in love with a girl who only sees him as a friend. There is a tragedy. One can't help rooting for him. There are a few schmaltzy moments but who cares? There is a lot we can learn from Arthur Truluv. I thought it was wonderful.

Reading Elizabeth Berg’s new book is like sitting in front of a fire, cozy and warm, with hot tea, a blanket, and two dogs at your feet. (Or cats.) Her lovely prose about a small town in Missouri and its people let you imagine you’re there with them.

It’s 1947 and Arthur Moses (aka Arthur Truluv) is 16 years old living with his parents and older brother, Frank.

A Delightful Story About the Bonds Between Two Brothers and First Love

SUMMARY
Arthur Moses is a 16-year-old shy young man living with his family in Mason, Missouri, in 1947. His older brother, Frank, is his best friend, his role model, and his rock. Arthur is head over heels in love with the most popular girl in high school, Nola McCollum, who never looks his way except to ask about his brother.

During their nightly brother-to-brother talks, Arthur repeatedly asks Frank for advice on getting Nola to notice him. He tries Frank's suggestions with limited success. Frank, who wants to be a writer and move to New York, has a girl problem all his own, and when a tragedy strikes the Moses family, Arthur has no desire even to try to be happy ever again.

REVIEW
EARTH'S THE RIGHT PLACE FOR LOVE is a delightful story about the bond between two brothers and the heartbreaking agony of first love and loss. The story explores family life, friendships, grief, and the human spirit.

The writing is beautiful and is deeply reminiscent of a sentimental bygone era. The artfully-drawn characters Arthur, Frank, and Nola are the pillars of the story. Author Elizabeth Berg makes you feel their angst, sadness, and determination.

My favorite part was the description of Arthur getting up the nerve to tell Nola how he feels about her. Simply sweet and delightful, like a glass of lemonade on a hot summer day.

Berg has written over thirty novels over the past 30 years, including Open House, Talk Before Sleep, and The Story of Authur Truluv. She was born in St Paul, Minnesota, and now resides in Chicago. Before she became a writer, she was a registered nurse for ten years. That experience taught her a lot about human nature and relationships. Her novels are generally about love, loss, hope, and compassion, with a bit of humor thrown in for good measure. EARTH'S THE RIGHT PLACE FOR LOVE is the backstory of Arthur Moses, otherwise known as Arthur Truluv.

Thanks to Netgalley for an advance reading copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

"Arthur straightened his back to stand taller as she walked over to him. She was wearing a red sweater set and a plaid pleated skirt. The white on her saddle shoes was unscuffed. She did not have a comb stuck in her socks like the tough girls did. He began rehearsing in his head: Nola, we need to get something straight. Here, he would step closer and look right into her eyes. I want to tell you something."

I absolutely loved the book that started this whole series, The Story of Arthur Truluv. To those of us that love that book, Arthur is a beloved figure. So it only made sense to be excited about reaching back to the origins of this beautiful soul. And he was beautiful, even back then in the late 1940s as a teenager.

The book depicts a small, quiet town where the neighbors all knew each other. Life was much simpler and personal responsibility was instilled. Arthur and his older brother Frank had to perform various jobs on Saturdays like helping neighbors with home projects and gardening. Their parents had problems involving the husband losing a job and his being too physical in punishing the older son Frank. I loved how life's lessons were so logically yet meaningfully explained to Arthur by various family and friends. The mother would explain the realities of marriage and how problems could be worked through to arrive at an even greater love and appreciation for the other's imperfect self. I also related to its masterful handling of how one passes through the stages of grief after a tragedy. The dialogue was profound.

Even with all these positives I was not exactly wowed by this book. I would classify this one as a good read, a "quiet read". This book serves to introduce the reader to Arthur's enduring love, Nola. They met in high school, and enjoyed the comfort of being the best of friends, able to be themselves and honest with each other- with trust. Arthur always knew he loved Nola and wanted to marry her, but it took Nola longer to get there. I enjoyed the book while drifting in and out of it to read other books. At times, it reminded me of a Catherine Ryan Hyde book in the way it deftly handled these youthful characters. The iconic The Story of Arthur Truluv depicts a gentle, faithful widower who visits his late wife Nola's grave each day. It was a crafty idea to hit the rewind button to flesh out these characters as they first met. I suspect there will be another installment, since this offering ends as their love realization begins.

Earth's the Right Place for Love tells the story of the young Arthur Truluv growing up in a small town with small but seemingly large characters: his larger-than-life older brother, his alcoholic father and beleaguered mother, his assortment of oddball friends, and his undying love for Nola, the girl next door who never seems to love him back. As Arthur tries to win over Nola with the help of his brother Frank, he faces a tragedy he never foresaw and realizes that the road to love is longer than he ever expected.

This book is full of trite clichés and truisms that Arthur relies on and adages that his friends and mentors provides for him as he navigates life and love. I often found these grating and commonplace, especially since the story was such a sweet, everyday one that it was heartwarming by itself. It didn't need all these "lessons" and banalities to explain the actual plot, which was its strength. I loved Arthur's actual story, a coming of age story of a boy falling love and growing up and facing tragedy and surviving over a span of years. I also loved the cast of characters, so typical of a small town, people I could have met in my own small town. Adding in the cliches weakened it, in my opinion. This brought a story that could have been a solid 4 or 4.25 to a 3.5 for me.

The title of Elizabeth Berg’s newest novel, Earth’s the Right Place for Love, is inspired by a line written by Robert Frost. As usual, this author writes a story that immediately grabs the reader.

Set in 1947, in the little town of Mason, Missouri, this warm and wonderful story focuses on shy, unassuming Arthur Moses, a 16-yer-old, living in a family wrought with disfunctions, beginning with his abusive, alcoholic father. Arthur’s salvation is his close relationship with older brother Frank, who dreams of becoming a writer. Frank is also sleeping with one of his teachers. And Arthur loves Nola, but Nola adores Frank.

I could not turn the pages fast enough. And yet I had to go back and reread passages for the overwhelming beauty of the words. Elizabeth Berg is one of my favorite writers, and her work casts a spell. She places the reader in the middle of the story, engaging with the characters and moving to the ups and downs of the plot. She writes so clearly that the characters become as real as the next-door neighbors. I loved this story, one of family, of love, of tragedy, of loneliness, and of the unique blood relationship between brothers.

I am a fan of Elizabeth Berg and I did enjoy reading her previous book, The Story of Arthur Truluv. In the first book Arthur is 80 years old. This new book explores Arthur’s life as a child and transitioning into adulthood. It was fun to read about a character from a prior novel that had touched my heart. Arthur is a sweet and genuine soul and I enjoyed revisiting with him and reading about his early years.

Earth's the Right Place for Love by Elizabeth Berg is a prequel to her Mason series. I have read the first two books in the series, so when I saw that this book was about Arthur Truluv when he was growing up, I definitely wanted to read it. Arthur's real name is Arthur Moses, and this is the story of his early life. I loved getting to know his family. His father had issues and made mistakes, but in those days, you didn't admit you needed help. Arthur and Frank had such a great relationship. The were brothers but also best friends. I loved how much fun they had together growing up. Of course, we find out how he met his beloved Nola. This is a book that had all my emotions in play. I was laughing at their antics one moment, upset at another and in tears at other points. It is a beautifully written book, descriptive, yet quick moving. I was totally engrossed in Arthur's life and all that happened to him growing up. With well developed characters, and a down to earth story, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Earth's the Right Place for Love is beautifully written, heartwarming, and a wonderful coming of age story.

Earth's the Right Place for Love by Elizabeth Berg is a prequel to her Mason series. It’s beautifully written, heartwarming, and very charming.

The main character in the story is Arthur Moses, and this is the story of his life. Like most people who live a long life, Arthur’s life is full of ups and downs, love, and tragedy. Arthur is a beautiful character, he’s kind and loving. I enjoyed watching Arthur grow up and spend time with him during his ups and downs.

I highly recommend Earth’s the Right Place for Love to anyone who enjoys fiction. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is the author's third addition to the Arthur Truluv story. I was introduced to this author and her fictional Arthur through the review of a GR friend who implied its comparison to A Man Called Ove a book and movies I greatly admired. I gave the first book 5 stars for reasons you can read my review to learn. The second book got 3 stars which is my default rating for any book that is worth its purchase price and the time to read it. The author has now written this third book in the Truluv tale and it is also getting my three star rating for pretty much the same reasons as book 2.

This third book is something of a prequel to the previous stories. In this book we meet Arthur as a high school sophomore who is experiencing the coming of age misery of first love. Again I have to admit to being entertained by the author's ability to take ordinary lives and events and create a story that transports us into our own pasts and memories. There is very little in this story that will surprise the reader and if you have read the previous two books then you will definitely not be too surprised by the ending. However, while the ending was no surprise I was expecting something different and more involved than what was offered but I can't fault the book for that. This is a charming coming of age book about an ordinary boy and girl. During the course of their story they both learn about the ups, downs, leaps, and somersaults of love in many of its boundless forms. This is a light and charming book and a good change of pace when you need it. Enjoy.

If you're looking for an easy, feel-good, comfort read, "Earth's the Right Place for Love" will fit the bill. The 1950s feel is nicely done - I could hear the voices as though I was watching an old movie.

But overall, the characters were just too perfect. It was just all a bit too sweet for me.

This is a coming-of-age story where we meet Arthur Moses, who is a shy and awkward teenager in the late 1940s. The story focuses on the people and small-town experiences that shape him. The close-knit relationship he has with his brother Frank who wants to be a writer. His father who is a war veteran with a drinking problem and a habit of using his fists when he’s angry. Nola McCollum, who Arthur has the biggest crush on but she only sees him as a friend. This cast of characters will worm their way into your heart and you will be thinking about them long after reading this book. It is a heartfelt read and I cannot wait to read the rest of this series.
