I'm very conflicted about this book, to be honest.

On one side, I really enjoyed the fantasy element of the story and the plot. It was fun; I was interested in it.

Yeah, the "villain" was a tad bit too obvious but still. I wanted to learn more about the different kingdoms. More battles and maybe even war. I found it really enticing how opposite and yet the same Elzira's and Ryke's powers were.

And I was sort of excited for the "hate" and push-and-pull between those two, but unfortunately, that disappeared pretty quickly.

But on the other side, I had a lot of issues with this book.
Pretty soon, I started to think that this felt like the first draft. It needed some editing. But as the story progressed, it got worse. Suddenly a completely new plot was added to the story, but it was only brushed over. It was just mentioned, and that felt like a great shame. It also added to a certain feeling where the story seemed slightly jumpy and disconnected. If this book was taken and rewritten to a double its length, I believe that it would be a pretty good fantasy.

And then the cringeworthiness (is that even a word?). A lot of dialogue and scenes between Elzira and Ryke were just cringeworthy.
Sometimes I had problems reading without wanting to gag a bit.

A fast paced, dark, steamy, fantasy retelling! 😍

Cold Queen by K Webster is a tale filled with betrayal, violence, gore, and love. I wish more than anything there was more length to this story or more books on the way in this world. With the way it ended, Kristi could easily turn this standalone into a series (preferably with full length installments.) If that wasn't her intention when she wrote the epilogue, I'm crossing my fingers that the characters will force her to revisit their world one day.

Was it everything I hoped it would be? I loved the characters, the story, the magic, and the romance, but because of the length of the novel, the story and romance had to move more quickly than a full length fantasy novel would. I would've loved for everything to be more fleshed out, but I think the author did a great job for a standalone of this length.

K Webster seems to be good at any genre she attempts to write which is why I was thrilled to hear she tried her hand at fantasy. Now that I've read the result, I hope she adds a fantasy or two into the rotation of countless books she publishes every year. Fantasy romance fans, dark romance fans, and K Webster fans, this one's for you!

Cold Queen was absolutely kick ass and my first fairy tale EVER including childhood. And I couldn't be happier losing my FT V card to this book and to K. Webster. The world she created was fantastical and eerie and felt like a fairy tale, a delicious taste of dark, sexy and wicked. I felt like I was reading a cross between Frozen and Game of Thrones and I loved every single word of it!

The Cold Queen is Elzira, Queen Whitestone, Ruler of the North Icelands, Commander of the Eyes of the White and The Punisher of the Damned. She is crowned at age 15, after the death of her father - the King and his wife. From there she must learn how to rule all by herself. The one thing Elzira has is her younger sister, Yanna, whom she practically raises and loves beyond anything.

Elzira is the queen of ice with her supernatural powers able to ever bring a chill and turn ice into a deadly weapon. She is the controller of cold. But 10 years later, while she has gained a reputation worthy of her titles and been dubbed the Cold or Cruel Queen, she now spends her days in her tower dying of a mysterious ailment. Her powers allude her now due to her weakness. Only Yanna looks after her while she slowly dies a little more each day.

Enter King Ryke Bloodsun, ruler of the Souta Volcanoes and the Truthseeker. He is her complete opposite. Where Elzira is ice, he literally is fire. Able to burn a man alive with his finger or heat up an entire castle. The Bloodsuns and the Whitestones have never been allies and the arrival of Ryke is not welcome. But Ryke has come with single minded purpose. He intends to marry the princess - Yanna, thereby making an allegiance between the two houses and forcing the cold queen into giving him access to the Hidden Lands past the Norta Layke. He longs to go and fight the fabled Moral War and he will do what he must to get what he wants including holding the queen and her sister hostage in their own castle. Ryke is one dominating, arrogant, sexy SOB but he's up against a take no prisoner's queen.

Elzira may be fading out and slowly dying but she will not give into Ryke or grant a union with Yanna. Their opinions of each other are initially set - she blames him and his army of Volcs for driving the Damned into her kingdom and he knows only of her reputation as the Cold Queen and a cruel woman. The battlefield has been set but in doing so they will discover a lot about each that changes perceptions.

Of course, everything is not what it seems. There is sabotage and secrets contained in the castle, enemies to the queen who go hidden and Ryke as a truth seeker finds himself drawn to the enigma of Elzira and how she contrasts from the picture he had in his mind. He also looks for the truth as to how such a strong queen is almost less then a wisp of a woman now, slipping away. And as said truth seeker, he will not stop until he has both the answers he seeks and his way with what he came for.

This was a fabulously constructed world! If fairy tales had been written like this when I was little then I probably would've been into them big time. K. Webster proves her versatility 100% and I wonder if there's a story she couldn't write. Cold Queen was my idea of a good time and for someone that hates fantasy, I absolutely ate this up and was an addict for each little morsel.

Ryke and Elzira make for not only one very steamy hot coupling, but man, combine the two forces and they are an unstoppable duo - a King and Queen made a thousand times stronger through their connection with one another and the combining of their powers.

Even though it's based on fairy tales, I don't want to give away any of the fun. So that's it for me. It's a relatively quick read with castle intrigue, battles and a war. Whether inside or on the battlefield it was all absolutely yummy and I could not have enjoyed it more!

So I'm going to go with a solid 5***** fire and ice stars with this one. My only regret is that I couldn't stay in their kingdoms longer!!

description This book was ALL kinds of awesome. I am usually not a huge fan of fantasy type books, and I honestly can't stand FROZEN 😂 but this story was just a complete hit from beginning to end. Fantastic writing. Great world building. Hot sex. No OW or OM drama. Excellent secondary characters. A very likable hero and heroine, and a very sweet happily ever after (I wonder if the kids will get stories of their own??!!). Really, not much left to say. This Sinister Fairy Tales Series series is certainly off to a good start. 👍👍

Q:
You can’t warm up what doesn’t want to be anything but cold. (c)

We start at 5 stars:
+1 star: For it being The Very Sinister Fairy Tales!
- 1 star: Maybe too sinister, since there are some ludicrous things:
Q:
“I am a queen. A vicious ruler. You think I would bow to you, Volc?” she scorns. “You’ve made your obnoxious proposal and now it is time for you to leave.” (c)
- 1 star: for food issues. Forcefeeding someone? Not eating at all? They do it all like it's all right. Cringeworthy
+- 1 star: horrible social practices
- 1 star: if there ever was a fantasy BDSM-y, 50-shady thing, this is it. How do you sleep (comfortably!) with hands ties behind your back with a whip? Or did I miss something?
- 1 star: Okay. I found my criptonite. I love, LOVE when there's some angst in my books but, in this one, there's entirely too much of it.
- 1 star: Immaturity. While it's sometimes nice to read something very hairbrained, this was almost too much.
+ 1 star: Gorgeous cover.
-1 star: Eye-roll inducing smut.
+ 1 star: The twists!

Q:
The longer I remain in this cold castle, the more I crave for visual delights. (c)
Q:
My tresses are silvery white with streaks of blue that I often try to hide by rubbing gray ash along the streaks. (c)
Q:
I’ve heard enough stories about her father and then later her. Cruel. Hateful. Murderous. Mad.(c)
Q:
Our minds are as good as sewn together, for we often think as one (c)
Q:
She may rule the Eyes of the White and be The Punisher of The Damned, but I am the Truth Seeker. I have the sight into what isn’t meant to be seen. Besides my fiery gift, I have one of the mind too. (c)
Q:
A clashing of two opposites that somehow are perfect together. (c)
Q:
I was a Whitestone. He was a Bloodsun. ... As Bloodstones, we are something new and more powerful. (c)
Q:
What happened to you? Why are you in this tower feeling sorry for yourself? (c)
Q:
“You just love to taunt, don’t you? Do you wake up each morning asking yourself how you can terrorize those around you, Volc?”
“It’s a part of my breakfast routine. (c)

THIS is how you write a fairytale!!!! I went in blind, and you should too.

The absolute perfection of character growth for this queen is one of the best I’ve ever read, and the hero is exact that.

I'm reluctant to give it more than 3 stars as it is too short, however, the story itself is entrancing from the first page to the last. That cover, though.....exquisite!

Wow!! This blew me away! Brilliant!
K Webster has a way with words that purely sucks you in the story and you only come back to reality once you've finished!
I wanted to read this because I've seen that almost all my friends gave it praises and very high ratings so I wanted to sample it myself. Once started, couldn't put it down a second.
Expect blood, lust, betrayal, tears, love, fantasy , a very dark twist and more.
There is no Olaf who loves warm hugs here, there is no sunshine and happiness ,instead I was assaulted with gritty emotions, power, darkness , cold .
Ryke Bloodsun, King of the Volcs, Truth Seeker and fire maker is one of my favorite male H , he is possesive, alpha , brave and cunning.

“The ache will fade and the fire will ignite. Burn with me, my queen.”

“For a mad, bossy king, you’re sometimes sweet.”
“And for a cold-hearted queen, you’re awfully hot.”

In the end opposite do attract eachother . Fire and Ice.

Cold Queen was bloody brilliant!! I'm a huge fan of retellings and this story satisfied every craving I had. I think my daughters have made me watch Frozen more than a dozen times and from my first viewing, I always wanted it to be Elsa who found true love. I found Anna to be lame. Boring. Elsa was the ruler, the one with magic, the one who claimed my interest. She has the ability to manipulate ice and snow! K Webster gave me the story that I always wanted and I'm so in love with Elzira and Ryke!

What have you done to me, you wickedly handsome Volc?

When Ryke made his way to Elzira's castle with his twenty thousand men, to negotiate an agreement to further his plan, he expected some kind of fight. He ended up waltzing in and finding a hot mess of lies. Inside the castle was a cold, vulnerable queen willing to do anything to protect her sister.

Her diamondblade crown sits proudly on her head and her black cape flaps behind her. She's powerful and stronger than any other person I've met.

Meeting the cold queen should have been a piece of cake and turned into so much more. While he ran hot and she ran cold, they were a perfect mesh of elements. She may have been dying, but Ryke wasn't going to make a thing like death stand in the way of what (or who) he wanted.

How he reduces me to a begging, trembling, aching mess is beyond me. If it were anyone else, I'd kill them. Not Ryke Bloodsun, King of the Volcs, Truth Seeker and fire maker. Bossy. Infuriating man. Breathtakingly beautiful.

Honestly, Cold Queen has become one of my favorite retellings yet. It was hot, evocative, the world building was stellar, the plot was engaging, and I can only hope that the author will do something like this again!

“For a mad, bossy king, you’re sometimes sweet.”
“And for a cold-hearted queen, you’re awfully hot.”

That was actually much better than I expected. I liked the combination of romance/ erotica and epic fantasy elements. I love reading fantasy but I often wish that there would be more romance in it. And I mean good romance. Male authors usually have no idea what quality romance is. And since epic fantasy is more or less written by men, you understand my frustration.

So, this book was almost perfect in that regard. Too bad it was more of a novella size because the plot was too rushed and the magic system was not sufficiently explained. However, I'm pretty sure the author didn't aim for this book to be an epic fantasy with a dirty love story - it's a retelling of Frozen after all - so it's not fair to criticize it for something it wasn't meant to be.

As I said, I was nicely surprised by how much I liked the book and I can't believe this was my first book by K Webster. Well, it certainly won't be the last.

Genre: Dark Fantasy Romance
Type: Standalone book from Sinister Fairy Tales collection
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:

Queen Elzira Whitestone reigned the Norta Icelands since she was very young. For years she protected her land and her beloved sister while she slowly dying from an ever-present illness.

King Ryke Bloodsun of Souta Volcanoes craved to conquer the unknown lands beyond her border. His ambition brought him to her castle with a proposal to merge their kingdoms. But what he found there was more than he bargained for.

I love dark erotic stories. I also love fairytale retelling. This book is a satisfying union of both.

Clever, cruel queen. She’s much smarter than I gave her credit for. Playing the most ruthless king of all by way of his cock.

Elzira and Ryke were both ruthless in their own way. They had good chemistry together and the erotic scenes could melt the icicles. I like their interactions, though I have to say sometimes it felt off and out of character when things felt a bit too contemporary for a fantasy setting.

I am their worst nightmare. I will eradicate them all. With a loud scream, I pour my rage into the storm around us.

I truly enjoyed the fantasy elements in this book especially the battle between fire and ice - both literally and figuratively. The storyline was interesting with violence and plenty of heads rolling off lol!

Cold Queen is a tale of secrets and ambitions. It would appeal to readers who enjoy a dark erotic fairytale retelling.

Queen Elzira Whitestone rules the Norta Icelands, but her powers and strength are diminishing. It isn’t until the fiery King Ryke Bloodsun arrives from the Souta Volcanoes to form an alliance with the Queen as a means to access the Hidden Lands. She isn’t about to concede to Ryke the truth seeker, but circumstances arise causing Elzira, The Punisher of The Damned, to summon her powers.

“So close to death, my queen. You simply needed a dark king to bring you back to life.”

Told in dual POV, the chemistry between Elzira and Ryke is combustible. Ryke is arrogantly confident with his intense personality and pushes Elzira beyond her limits. Though she has the ability to rule, she needs to find that source. As events start to build, the truth is revealed.

“Trust your instinct. Trust only yourself. Trust in the cold.”

In this dark fairytale retelling, I enjoyed the dichotomy of fire and ice between Elzira and Ryke, which makes their pairing blazing hot physically but also complimentary. I also liked how Elzira was viewed as an equal in battle. Though I surmised the plot path, I still enjoyed the execution and the secondary characters enriched the storyline. Lastly, I want some powers. lol!

Cold Queen is a dark fantasy romance with secrets. It will appeal to those looking for an alpha hero and a heroine who is just as powerful in her own right.

This is a fantasy romance novel and a very enjoyable one at that.
The first thing that struck me here was Elziras resemblance to the Snow Queen with her cold icy castle and outward appearance.
But this is no over-romanticized fairytale it had a much edgier and darker overtone whilst at the same time was still a really sweet love story despite the bloodshed involved.
So Elzira is the reigning queen of the Norta Icelands, Queen Whitestone after the untimely death of her father, she is also the punisher of the damned.
So Ryka the Truthseeker and King Bloodsun of the Souta Volcanos is the exact opposite of the Icequeen.
Hot where she is cold, Fire where she is Ice he wants her cooperation to proceed through her lands to what lies beyond and is prepared to do whatever is needed to accomplish his goals.
I really enjoyed this story the unapologetic viciousness was refreshing and though this wasn't a complicated story it was very absorbing.
A quick read that really captured my imagination.
I would really adore it if the author continued with this series and would certainly like to read more set in this world.
If you like fantasy romance then this hits the spot massively.
A thumbs up from my camp.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Cold Queen.

This book will never fail to make me swoon with all the banter and comfort care scenes- I was livinggg. I haven't been able to stomach reading anything new recently, so this re-read really hit different for me 😭.

I will forever be obsessed with this book.

"So close to death, my queen.

-=-(3rd read)-=-

To all the ice queens, who secretly want someone to truly get to know them- this one is for usssss 😭.

There's something about this book that just does it for me. I adore this type of fantasy so much you don't understand. What I loved most about it, was that despite it being rushed at times, this book just did the dark fantasy and romance mix so nicely.

Having read it 3 times now I feel the exact same way that I did reading it the first time around💀 I don't think I can get sick of it 😭 I'm just so interested in this world, that I would do unspeakable things for another book 😋.

''Beautiful.
My fiery, cold queen.''

-=-(2nd read)-=-

I've been in a lil reading slump recently, so I decided to re-read this gem. I loved it equally as much as I did the first time around, and everything I said still stands (please I need more 💀🙏)- I seriously wish KW wrote more books in this style/ world.

The way I loved this so much-

The story was so interesting, and I really loved the fantasy element to it.

I really wished that it was longer to give the book more time to fully flesh out the story and some reveals, but this was just a really short, enjoyable read.

I love anything to do with fantasy/ romance and darker retellings- so this one just worked so well for me. It was a really tastefully dark fantasy, KW really surprised me 💀.

'My cruel queen smiles. “Our love is destructive.”
“Only for those who attempt to step between it.''

Fire and Ice. HOT DAMN! No idea what book the low-raters read but THIS WAS FREAKING GLORIOUS!!

I see you, Cold Queen. […] your time is limited. You’re just waiting for someone like me to dethrone you and end your miserable existence. Your wish is my command, your royal frostiness.

What an intense and fast-paced read this was. Thrilling and entertaining, full of violence, secrets, betrayal and a sizzling hot love story between two powerful rulers.

“I’ve taken your innocence, snowflake. It’s a brutal matter. But soon, your body will adjust to mine. You’ll realize we fit together perfectly.” […] “The ache will fade and the fire will ignite. Burn with me, my queen.”

Okay, the queen was sick and the dark king came and made it all better but I found that fucking romantic and swoony, okay?!

“If I die on the battlefield…” she mutters against my lips.
Then I’ll die too.

And also, yeah, the last part was a bit dramatic in an eye-roll-inducing kinda way and all the family shit felt a bit unfitting at the end but still, I loved it and totally recommend it for a quick snack of a read.

K.Webster has delivered a very clever retake on Elsa and Anna's story from Frozen. She spins the fairytale into a dark action-packed romance full of delicious fantasy elements to bring the story to life.
It has a Game of Thrones vibe to it which I really loved. I enjoyed the characters Kristi created, using the original character's elements, she intertwined them with her brilliant, and creative imagination.
Sexy, dark, cold and dangerous. This is one Sinister Fairytale you won't want to miss.

***4,25 "The Volc and The Punisher!!!" stars***

“So close to death, my queen. You simply needed a dark king to bring you back to life.”

Wow!!!! Just... wow!!! I'm really impressed with these retellings!!!
Not only with "Cold Queen", but "Venom" by Dee Garcia, as well!!!!
Honestly, i'm waiting impatient the next books in this brilliant project!!!!
Every story is soooo unique, even though something remind us!!!
Something that we have heard a thousand times before, but these retellings are unique in their own way and I'm finding myself enjoying them way too much!!!!
Who didn't love a beautiful and sweet fairytale as a child???
Who doesn't love a twisted, dark and sinister retelling as an adult???

“Trust your instinct. Trust only yourself. Trust in the cold.” ,/i>

Well, Cold Queen was a retelling of the known "Frozen"!!!!
Elsa and Anna were much different in here than the original story and i loved how the things turned out after all!!! I loved this twisting very much!!!
I loved Elzira and her 'icy' heart who was longing the heat and I loved the dark and literally hot king who was about to melt her heart, even though he was after the princess!!!

"So fiery this weak, dying queen is.
It makes me want to stoke that inner fire."

Honestly, i don't know really what to say about this book...
If you will read the blurb carefully, you will take the general idea of the book, so it got me covered...
There was a mighty, ruthless, powerful, ice queen, who nowadays, she was fragile...
And then a dark, powerful king full of fire came into her castle and demanded things of her...
He demanded a princess as his wife and he kept the queen a prisoner in her own home until she'll give him what he really wanted...
But the things didn't go as he was planning!!! The queen weren't so fragile as he was thinking!!!! And he was about to take a lesson...

"Her diamondblade crown sits proudly on her head and her black cape flaps behind her. She's powerful and stronger than any other person I've met."

"The enemy can't be my savior.
Impossible."

I loved Elzira very much!!! Yes, she was supposed to be cold, but she was anything but that!!!
She used to be cold, because there wasn't anything or anyone around her to bring her warmth...
I loved Ryke... He was ruthless and determined to destroy the cold queen, but as much as he didn't want to admit it, she was exerting charm upon him!!! He was intrigued by her and that fact was making him more determined to break her!!!
The chemistry between those two were over the top and i loved their interactions way too much!!!

"How he reduces me to a begging, trembling, aching mess is beyond me. If it were anyone else, I'd kill them. Not Ryke Bloodsun, King of the Volcs, Truth Seeker and fire maker. Bossy. Infuriating man. Breathtakingly beautiful."

"This woman has power over me-power I didn't even know existed in this world. Making a powerful man like myself feel powerless is a very dangerous move."

I won't say much more!!!! Just that i can not wait for the next story, and the next one and the next one...
I might be slightly obsessed with this project!!!! I'm simply loving it and I'm way too curious of the next twists in known fairytales!!!!

"For a mad, bossy king, you're sometimes sweet."
"And for a cold-hearted queen, you're awfully hot."

i really liked this one!! Frozen and me are enemies lol (blame my niece). So i was pretty excited and not excited for a retelling.. but THIS was good!! Really really good...

Elizira the cold wicked queen is slowly dying for unknown reasons she keeps her younger sister Yanna safe and loved, until they get Ryke coming into their land offering a peace treaty between their family and hers... he is to wed Yanna and get access to another land. But Elzira won't let this barbarian take her land and sister away without a fight.. but the more they banter and the way he treats her they both fall for one another..

Fire and ice clash in many ways 🔥🔥🔥... more betrayal comes out.. and boy the twist and turns..

Also!! For ppls wondering no he has nothing with the younger sister at all.. he is all about his cold queen..

Low angst, no om/ow drama, No cheating, drama,  slight secondary chara, sexy times, virgin gal idk his history

This was a loosely based off of Frozen.
I absolutely adore K. Webster’s writing and I was definitely not disappointed with this book. The love between the two main character was so pure! (I’m running short on time so this is a quick review!)

The Punisher! 5 ❤️

Queen Whitestone was cold, weak and dying, when her life changed forever. In this sexy dark fairytale K Webster masterfully draws you into this magical kingdom of light and fire. I was breathless reading this. I wanted Queen Eriza to win, to find redemption and love. Enter King Bloodsun. He consumes her. His fire literally breathes life into her.

“Tonight, you’ll bow for me, Cold Queen. And then I’ll spend the rest of the night worshiping you between your thighs.”

First Impressions
I have been meaning to get more of this author’s works, and when I saw a favorite booktuber raving about this one, I just knew that I needed to pick this one up. I am so happy that I did that. Because this story just was everything that I didn’t know that I needed in my life. It is such a beautiful dark romance that is a retelling of Frozen. I have NEVER read a retelling of Frozen before actually, and it’s loosely a retelling, and those who have read this one probably know to which I am referring. BUT it also has one of my favorite sub-genres which is epic fantasy and I adored how K Webster wrote this one. It had such a mix of darker themes, the perfect setting, an alpha male, and a heroine that is turning into a butterfly. It definitely had its share of Frozen feels (even though I am not a fan of Frozen) we finally get a story that I can get behind and a beautiful epic romance that won my heart so quickly. And as a plus, it’s a super-fast read. This romance is guaranteed to sweep you off your feet and you will be more than happy to go along with the ride.

This woman has power over me—power I didn’t even know existed in this world. Making a powerful man like myself feel powerless is a very dangerous move.

Summary
Elzira, Queen Whitestone, Ruler of the North Icelands, is dying. When she lost her father at a young age, she had to harden herself and become the queen she was born to be. But she is slowly dying and she knows she doesn’t have much time left. Her magic is starting to fade, and the cold is more of a curse than a blessing. But now she has to deal with a neighboring King that wants her sister for his own and wants to unify their forces to fight the nomads that are invading their lands and are like locusts that need to be stopped. Then we have King Ryke Bloodsun, ruler of the Souta Volcanoes and the Truthseeker. He is a formidable warrior and one that sees much more going on with Iceland’s kingdom than their own queen does. Including the fact that Elzira may have power but that power and strength is dwindling with every hour. He begins are taking over the kingdom and while seen as an enemy at first, there is more to Ryke than meets the eye, and the chemistry building between him and Elzira is tearing down the walls that Elzira has built for herself. Because while she knows she can’t trust him, there is something more to Ryke than meets the eye and when he starts to care for Elzira and slowly brings her back to life and power, a fierce love will blossom between the two but is their power enough to defeat the enemies that are both seen and unseen?

From the moment I saw her, I knew she was mine. I never planned on taking her sister or leaving her. No, I was going to make her my queen in every way possible. And that’s my truth.

What I Loved
The Cold Queen was such a breathtaking story that won me over so quickly. And I definitely think if you are looking to get into Dark Romance and you want something that is edgy, I can’t recommend this one enough here. It definitely has so many positive factors to it. I just love the way that this hero surprised me in how he cares for the heroine. As a truthseeker, he can see the truth and the lies and deceptions and I love that he sees all the enemies that surround them and pay attention to the little details, and cares so much for Elzira. Elzira was a heroine that I could definitely get behind and I don’t say that too often with alpha females, but K Webster wrote this heroine in such a way that just worked for me so well. She was so relatable and had vulnerabilities I could get behind. There is such a good balance that grows between these two. I also liked seeing the growth in the heroine and seeing her really come into herself and her abilities. And it’s such a plus when the hero is encouraging her to become who she was meant to be. The sex scenes are pretty hot and there is some mild BDSM. But it’s not extreme or anything. I normally don’t go for short books like this, and even though I could have hoped for something a bit longer as I am selfish and didn’t want this story to end, I also couldn’t get enough of this one either. It had so many elements that worked so well for me. And if you like epic fantasy, and want to see how a Frozen retelling would work…..you definitely need to give this one a chance.

“If I die today,” I rumble. “Know that every second with you was the ultimate gift.”

What I Struggled With
The only thing I can think of is the length …..there could have been more length in this story

Overall View
Cold Queen is a superb read that swept me off my feet, it was packed with a powerhouse of elements that blend together so flawlessly. It’s a story of self-discovery, of renewed hope, standing by the ones you love, and fighting for what matters. Its boldness will win your heart with each chapter and charm your socks off.

Heat blazes through me, my eyes searing into hers. “I’ll burn the whole damn world to the ground. If you can’t exist in my world, then no one else is allowed to.” My cruel queen smiles. “Our love is destructive.” “Only for those who attempt to step between it.”

”So close to death, my queen.
You simply needed a dark king to bring you back to life.”

3.5 stars.

So this book is like a quick dark romance, with fantasy wrapping paper. Sort of a loose alt-universe mash-up of Frozen & GOT plots. Maybe even a smidge of TWD thrown in there. I personally enjoyed this quick take on a fantasy read, but I think one of the joys of fantasy is that there is at least some sort of torturous slow build. Whether it be from the romance or the main angst plot itself. In this case, everything is unveiled to the reader rather quickly. At least I saw where things were going pretty quickly. So while it was enjoyable, I give a fair warning to real deal fantasy readers that this is quick erotic fantasy... Is that a thing? Well. K Webster made it a thing.

So my main opinion is that I enjoyed this one. I enjoyed the characters and their story. I just wish there was MORE. If this was like a full length fantasy novel I think it would be a 5 star for me. I think the length doesn’t allow the author the time to really take this to the next level. That being said, if some other characters (who I can’t mention because SPOILERS) got stories off of this one. I would gobble each and every one of them up.

No shit with OW or OM. No rape. And still dark. THANK YOU.
But alas, from what I've seen, this must be an exception from this author.

Definitely not touching her other books, but this was good. Wish it was longer.
