It’s a harmless way for a college student to make extra money… until it isn’t.
I’m careful not to show my face, so why do I feel like I’m being watched when the camera turns off?
No one should know who I am or be able to find me, but they do, and things quickly spiral out of control.
The two unhinged men who fill my cam chat with all the deplorable things they want to do to me are closer than I think. To them I’m just a pretty little tease, and their obsession turns into something so much more than I bargain for.
I should have run away when they found me, because now it’s too late for me to be anything except theirs.
AJ Merlin would rather write epic love stories than live them. I mean, who wants to limit themselves to only falling in love once? She is obsessed with dark fantasy, true crime, and also dogs. From serial killers to voyeurs all the way down to the devil himself, AJ's specialty is in writing irredeemable heroes who somehow still manage to captivate their heroines (and her readers).
⤅ Overall enjoyable, but I couldn't really connect with the characters.
I've been dying to read this book ever since I saw the blurb. Camgirl student heroine? Stalked by her classmate AND her teacher? Sign me up.
Unfortunately, I did get some impressions from the blurb which the book didn't necessarily deliver.
Blair Love is a final-year uni student who's just moved into a new flat with her best friend, Juniper. One of her pastimes is watching cam streams - that is, basically amateur porn streamed live - and her favourite is a guy named 'letsplayjay', who keeps his identity concealed by a mask. That's her personal life.
Academic life: she signs up to take a photography class and ends up befriending the TA Oliver Greer, whilst being scared stiff of the professor Rook Solomon. Through a random coincidence, she discovers that Oliver is none other than her favourite camboy, and it sets off a little lightbulb above her head. He's making thousands of dollars a week from it... so why not her?
This is where Blair's character didn't always feel very consistent. At the start of the book, she comments glancingly about not wanting to 'flash the entire street' if she accidentally walks naked in front of her window; it seemed a bit sudden for someone with those kinds of inhibitions to then get into camming immediately.
She's also, I'm afraid, not very bright. Blair has highly distinctive tattoos which she knows she has to cover up in her public life, because they'd immediately give her away as the camgirl 'MaskedEnvy'. So what does she do? Naturally, she goes to a frat party with all her tattoos exposed, thereby leading to the very outcome she said she didn't want. This didn't make any sense. In the space of a couple of chapters, she's forgotten her desire not to be recognised?
The romance is okay, but honestly from the blurb, I was expecting more. They're supposed to fill her chat box with 'all the deplorable things they want to do' to her, but frankly they spend more of their time protecting her from all the deplorable things other people are typing by reminding her to set good boundaries. The whole title + blurb combo gives the vibe that she's a manipulative tease aware of her appeal, and pushes her anonymous viewers until they snap and grab her, but that's not really what happens and I didn't feel why they'd become obsessed with her in particular.
Merlin's technical writing is good (though I have to say, the word 'sweet' was used 57 TIMES which is way too much and really grated) and the premise is great, but I'm a bit meh on the execution.
I've read from this author before and loved how unhinged the book was. But I didn't expect it this to be such as for a chunk of this book it gave of different vibe but then it completely went insane. In a good way. Not the most unhinged nor insane but definitely had me hooked. I'm very thankful I've already bought the second one.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Every day I get closer and closer to deluding myself into thinking that some hunk will pay me 500 dollars just to flash them. 😐 And it eats me alive, I'll tell ya.
Edit: I've actually just been thinking about this book so much since I finished it. I'm gonna move it up to 5 stars because any book that stays on my mind for more than a night deserves an extra star. The dynamic between both Sam and Rook is so good and the chemistry between all 3 of them left me salivating for more.
TITLE: Pretty Little Tease GENRE: Dark Romance AUTHOR: AJ Merlin TROPE: Stalker, Serial K!ller, Suspense, Ménage, MM, MFM TYPE: Series (Pretty Obsessions Book 1) POV: 1st Person MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5
⚠️ Check trigger warnings; this dark content is for +18 readers.
What can I say? I loved this book! Dark and delicious is how I would describe Pretty Little Tease. I will purposely not give away any spoilers in this review; it is best to go in blind. I liked Blair's character, and I found myself quickly slipping into the storyline. I really loved the morality grey character that is Oliver; he is quirky, lovable and dark, all wrapped up into a sexy package. I can't wait to see more of Rook in Book 2 of the series. AJ Merlin knocked this out of the park, in my opinion. I am giving a rating of 5 / 5 Stars.
WHAT TO EXPECT: 🔪 Stalker 🔪 Professor/student 🔪 Serial K!ller 🔪 Cam Girl 🔪 College Student 🔪 MMF 🔪 Suspense
Well, the steam is coming off the pages in this new book from A. J. Merlin. I mean, I knew I was going to read it as soon as I knew it involved camming (one of my favorite tropes and real-life turn-ons), but then you add in this pretty little thing falling in with two men who are utterly obsessed with her and the promise of a plot that’s looking more dark and complicated than what the short blurb is alluding to? Aw, come on. You might as well have told me you had a whole pen full of piglets for me to play with if I’d just follow you!
Blair just needs to earn some money, but doesn’t want to work in another restaurant or coffee shop while she’s trying to take a heavy course load before she hits her senior year and has to work on her thesis. Shortly before her semester starts, she comes across a cam site she’s surfed before and watches a user that tempts her and causes her to feel things she hasn’t felt before and she wonders if she could do that. Could she put on a mask and make just about the same amount of money per month as she would at a part-time job without having to work as many hours and on her own schedule?
It turns out she can, and she quickly gains two fervent followers who tip well to keep her from having to do the lascivious things other tippers try to get her to do on screen. At the same time, she’s taking a photography class with a guy she has a crush on who doesn’t even need to take the class but is anyway and seems to have the strangest dynamic with their professor. She feels this tension between them, and she feels a push-pull within herself between the sweet and playful Oliver and her icy, stern professor. There’s just something about them both that she wants, but what it is yet she doesn’t know. What she does know, though, is that there’s just something a little off with both of them and it should send her running…but she just can’t bring herself to do it.
I don’t want to spoil most other aspects of the plot, because that would ruin so much of the fun of the book for you. There are some great surprises in store for you, both in the erotic sense and in the plot sense. I love how Merlin can manage to write a great deal of romantic suspense and psychological fiction into these dark romances. It’s not all physical violence–it’s a whole lot of mind games and I’m here for it.
The book is the first in a series, but thankfully it ends on a natural break in the storyline and not on an abrupt, torturous cliffhanger. There is an important question asked near the end that is meant for Blair to contemplate between this book and the next, but it’s no emergency. There’s no rush. The only ones who’ll be in a rush are us readers, who’ll be begging nonstop for the next installment.
I was provided a copy of this book by the author. All views and opinions expressed in this review are mine and mine alone. Thank you.

This was a fantastic start of a duo/trilogy! I am loving Blair, Oliver, and Rook along with the intricacies & oddities that is them separately and together. Blair wasn’t expecting anything like Oliver, and definitely not Rook, going into her senior year of college. Her normal, introverted, and quiet life certainly gets shook up and she begins stepping out of her comfort zone. Oliver is like a golden retriever (but one who has a dark shadow) while Rook is the intimidating dominant professor but they oddly work well together. I can wait for book 2 so I can find out what happens next!
I went into this completely blind. It is my first read by AJ Merlin. I am blown away. This book does have an authors note in the beginning telling you that these men are not good men. The authors notes for the TW are in the beginning. Make sure you read this as there can be content in here that may not be for you.
First I gasped out loud when I read the FMC’s name…IT’S THE SAME AS MINE…THIS NEVER HAPPENS!!! Second I was grinning a majority of the time I read this. If you like your book boyfriends to be unalivers then this book is for you. It gave me the best of all the dark romance worlds. It even introduced me more into something that i haven’t really seen in my dark romance books before.. you will know what it is when you read it. I love the idea of Blair finding herself more by becoming a cam girl. I can’t wait to read the next book!
I ate this book uppp- It definitely took a turn that I wasn't expecting (🤡) but I legitimately couldn't put it down. It was unhinged, and it was hottttt 🤭.
Anyways, manifesting free therapy for everyone in this book 🙏💞.
More than a little tease! This book had a lot of potential, and I did enjoy it for the most part, but something was just missing. The pacing felt a little off to me when I got about half way through the book. It started slow and the slower build up to something steamy was fine, but then we get half way through and the book suddenly took off to this crazier storyline. Which I did like but it just didn't blend well with the first half in my opinion. I think I also struggled because the book was only the heroine's POV so we missed getting to see the reactions from the other characters that could have helped explain a lot of things.
This is also the second book I read over the weekend that I got really excited for from a promo I saw and then the book itself just didn't live up to what it was promising. For a book about camgirls/boys and that was heavily promoting "steamy" scenes...they just didn't happen? We rarely saw any of the cam scenes in detail, instead most of those camshows were mostly talked about after the fact and barely detailed on what went on during them. There also wasn't an MM scene and that was such a disappointment to me. Not only did I expect that going in, but the story itself kept hinting at this super hot relationship between the two men and we never got to see it.
I'm still excited to read on to the next book when it's out and I have hopes that we'll see more between these characters.
I don’t know what it is, but as soon as I click open an AJ Merlin book, I know I’m going to be captivated and I’m going to be taken on a wild ride.
I feel like I know what’s going on, Blair is a college student with no job, but needs money. So she does the only thing she thinks she can do, she becomes a cam girl after watching her favorite cam guy and getting inspired. But what happens when virtual becomes reality?
While there is a quite a bit of spice it doesn’t detract from the overall storyline. They’re not established. Blair is quite hesitant but at the same time, cannot deny her feelings towards Oliver and her brooding Professor Solomon. And don’t discount the guys. They’re absolutely obsessed with their girl. "𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞, 𝐰𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥.” 𝐇𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐥𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈’𝐦 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞. "𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐢𝐭.”
I am absolutely in love with all the characters. Everyone is just so different but they mesh well together and so beautifully. I think I’m more team Oliver than Rook. He’s just unassuming, so run of the mill, but he’s the one you gotta watch out for. I’m so invested and I need book 2!
One POV and she's an idiot. "I can't do this" she repeats as she does, in fact, do it repeatedly. If there's stalking in this book I missed it entirely. Suddenly the "stalker" is revealed and it's literally the only other person in the story like a Scooby-Doo episode. The screen names are all dumb but here's the worst part- there is no MM in this book. The 2 men are already in love and in a pre-existing relationship and they do nothing but kiss. Once. That's it. They hint at stuff. But nothing happens with them on the page. Three sex scenes in the whole book anyway. One threesome but it's just taking turns. This is some level one, basic, not vanilla but not far off- maybe vanilla bean- level spice. Could have been so much more. Didn't raise my temperature at all. This book wouldn't melt ice cream. And it deserves to be repeated- this girl is an idiot.
Ok so first of all what did I just read!!!???? Like it totally blew me away!!! This was also my first book by AJ as well and I loved her writing and her style!! Although I was a little worried it was going to leave me in a major cliffhanger and those although exciting can be nerve-wracking!!! Lol But the dynamics between Blair, Oliver and Rook are just so hawt. I love the chemistry and how the sense of danger is always lurking just below the surface of everything. I can't wait for the next book and I hope it's very soon!!! I also plan on reading more of AJ and seeing if all her books are just as good. This was a great read and I highly recommend it!!

✨ARC Review ✨ *** Thank you to AJ Merlin and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for the ARC to review. *** Gosh, I love anything by AJ Merlin and this book did not disappoint. It was so good. The characters were something else. So complex and dark. I loved them so much!!! The storyline was amazing. The twist and turns had me on the edge of my seat. The spice was fire and the ending left me needing more. I cannot wait for the second book!!! *** ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 ***
This is my second book by Aj and again I wasn't disappointed. I love Blair and how throughout the whole book she teeters on how she feels for Oliver and Rook. I sorry but Oliver is insane but in a way you just can't help but love him. I on the fence with Rook maybe he'll come out more in book 2, which I can't wait for.
Holy hotness! I’m 100% team Oliver. AJ Merlin you beautiful genius. It’s like every book you put out gets better, more intriguing, and I can’t put them down. Super excited to see more of Oliver and Rooks dynamic, holy hottness Batman. I devoured this first part of the trilogy and can’t wait for the next!
Gahhhh I cannot even tell you how much I loved this book! The characters were awesome and the plot was fantastic.. I was hooked from the very first page to the very last
This is the first book I've read by AJ Merlin and it won't be the last... She's stuck with me as a fan now 🖤
Don't skip this one if you love dark romance! 5/5⭐
Absolutely amazing. This author never disappoints. I'm so glad this isn't a stand alone I need more so much more I absolutely love Blair, Oliver n rook argh this was absolute perfection n the cliff isn't a bad one but I so need more. I could dive into this world daily yes it has triggers for those who are triggered but for me it was a epic read a must read for sure
Omg these characters! I do not know how Merlin has all these different characters bouncing around in her head all the time but I'm happy she writes them for us. The 3 main characters are so unique from anything I've ever read before and the book plot is so intriguing. Just when you think you know what's going on the rug will be ripped out from under you for another go on the merry go round.
What an incredible book. These characters drive me crazy in the best ways. The story definitely includes darker themes, but it is worth the read. I can't wait to see what happens next. I need more Rook!
TW/CW - murder, graphic violence, kink, sex work, coercion, and consent that isn’t always given properly
Tropes - dark romance, serial killers, throuple - MMF (no on-page MM 🙄), teacher-student, stalker
So
This started off well and I had high hopes but it just didn't land well with me. First what I enjoyed, then a list of things that irked me
Like I said, this started well for me. I was interested in the FMC and I was excited to see where this was going. I picked up this book because of the cam girl aspect and when that started, I was hooked! and the cam guy?? yes! inject that into my veins. I was really interested in that part of the story line but it ended up not sticking for me...
1. she says she's into CNC and we don't get a CNC scene - I feel like I was blue ballsed here. i guess it could come in the next book (because this isn't a standalone) but i probably won't be reading that 2. MMF and I didn't get to read any MM?????????????????????????????????? blue. balls. 3. this isn't multi POV. i feel like this book could have been MILES better if we could hear directly from the 2 other MCs 4. the pace felt weird to me. I got to 50% and felt like nothing had happened 5. the grammatical errors felt like too much to ignore and was throwing me off 6. the continuity errors also threw me off; at one point she was talking about her class tomorrow but then a few sentences later, she mentioned it was saturday??? 7. her reaction when and then seeing Professor Solomon felt like a big stretch to me. she defo jumped and leapt over a few hurdles with the conclusion she came to because it felt like there was no substance to that 8. The FMCs internal monologue is boring too. It’s just her either nervous or worried, asking questions and jumping to conclusions that sound like a stretch based on the info she has, regardless of whether they’re true or not. 9. i'm ngl, i picked this book up because she was a cam girl but it felt like it became secondary to the plot; i would've liked if this took up more time in the story 10. motives are pathetic. It was not compelling enough at all for a serial killer imo. Like it just fell flat to me. When it was revealed, I was just like ...? is that it??? 11. the introduction of her parents at 87% threw me through a loop ngl, i didn't understand what purpose they brought to the story 12. Professor Solomon also, accurately, points out that she’s more upset over getting a B- in his class than finding out that 💀💀💀💀💀 idk how we're meant to take this seriously.
Scale: ⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite ⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪
🫑 - no smut 🌶 - no point 🌶🌶 - mediocre at best 🌶🌶🌶 - standard smut, hot 🌶🌶🌶🌶 - 🥵 okay, some CW 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 - fuck me 🥵🥵 CWs / filthy with a side of filth - see Poison / Room Twenty-Two: Hide and Seek
I don’t often find novels with fmc’s who are cam girls, but when I do I always go in with the utmost excitement only to get sorely disappointed later. This novel wasn’t like that, this author did the cam girl aspect justice and omfg it was hot hot. Everything was hot really; The fmc, the men, their obsession. HOT. I was a HUGE fan of Oliver and idk what that says about me, spoiler ahead….
I’ve never come across an H who wanted to murder the fmc’s friend for coming in between them. Don’t worry folks he doesn’t do it but boy does he want to. And I found that hot??? Help??
Omg and Rook is so swoony. I usually get jealous with MM but the fact that both men wanted her bad, took care of those feelings of jealousy. I do hope we get more ROOK AND Blaire. Also I hope she doesn’t stop doing her job as a cam girl. That added one hellauva spicy element to this story. I honestly can’t wait to read more and am so sad the next book isn’t out.
