Between 1959 and 1962 Moravia was president of PEN International, the worldwide association of writers.
Novels, such as Time of Desecration (1978), of Italian writer Alberto Moravia, pen name of Alberto Pincherle, explore the alienation and ennui of the middle class.

Quarataquattro racconti, tutti scritti in prima persona tranne l'ultimo che ha per protagonista un cane.
Dopo aver letto qualche racconto, si inizia ad individuare il filo conduttore che li accomuna un po' tutti.
Si tratta quasi sempre di uomini che amano più guardare che agire, sono racconti introspettivi, di soggetti al limite dell'alienazione, quasi sempre incompresi e traditi dalle mogli, raramente tradiscono o si azzardano a desiderarlo, al limite ad immaginarlo.
Il ragionamento eccessivo li stanca, ne inibisce l'azione, li porta a vedere tutto come oggetti inanimati.
Tanti uomini che potrebbero essere uno solo, tutti simili nella loro mediocrità e nel loro anonimato. Si arriva all'ultimo racconto, quello del cane, e si scopre che forse è l'unico a provare un vero sentimento, nonostante riduca il mondo ad ossa e odori è in grado di spiegarlo chiaramente.

: واقعا خیلی وقتها منم همینطوریم. باید یکی هولم بده تا کار بکنم
چلستینا : دوست نداشتمش
یک آدم معمولی : اینو خیلی دوست دارم. ماها فکر میکنیم خاص هستیم . حالا نه خیلی ولی خوب شاید عین ما تو دنیا خیلی کمه. ولی واقعیت اینه که از این خبرها نیست:)
به دام افتاده : تلاش برای خودکشی ولی باز زندگی. نپسندیدم
ارتباط : این با نمک بود. انگار همه دنیا آسمون همین رنگه :)))))
همه چیز بین : اینم خوب بود. . یکم شبیه خودم بود :) گاهی میبینی ولی نظاره نمیکنی! گاهی میشنوی ولی گوش نمیکنی :))) البته یکم بیشتر از گاهی.
جرونتزیو : زیاد جالب نبود
بیدار شو : باز هم مرگ عشق در وصال. جالب بود و گیرا
درسته : واقعا همچین آدمهایی پیدا میشن؟ توصیفاتی زیبا از زنی که شبیه بقیه نیست از زبان مردی که اون هم به نوبه خودش شبیه بقیه عاشقها نیست.
"هرکی که واقعا آدمو دوست داشته باشه، همونطور که تو واقعا منو دوست داری، درک میکنه و میبخشه. و تو، مطمئنم که درک کردی و بخشیدی، مگه نه؟"
پس یعنی خودشم قبول داره که نیاز به بخشش داره؟! کارش اشتباه بوده!!!!

there are four types of people here: psychopathic men, toddlerlike men, beautiful women and ugly women. In the set of 44 short stories not once does there appear a female narrator and I have noticed one case of a woman whose first (and usually only) characteristic doesn't have to do with what she looks like. I recommend only reading first and last sentence of each story because everything in between is some enraging mess.

مزخرف بود!فقط یکی داستانهاش به نظرم جالب اومد که اسمش "ارتباط "بود.آدم احساس میکرد نویسنده یه دید کاملا مادی به همه چیز داره یا مالیخولیا داره.

دیگه وسطاش داشتم قاطی میکردم. بس که همشون وسواسی و حساس و اینا بودن. الان همش سرم میخاره. کهیر زدم. اما خیلی جالب بودن آدماش. فقط زیاد بودن.

I have a personal connection to this book - I think it was my grandfather's. A grandfather who passed away before I was born and bought this copy and then read it - if the few dog ears are anything to go by. My four star rating is - I almost gave it three - for my objective reaction to the short stories, but the book will have a special place in my shelf. Reading it felt like a remembrance, a connection formed through an imitated act.
On to the stories! What struck me as I began to read these short stories was Moriavi's writing style - his use of structure and precise language. He writes stories that are never overly-long, the words exact and deliberate, the characters open and candid. But the narrator is never called or detached. He - because it was always a he - speaks to the reader about his feelings with candour and innocence. It's the structure of the story that hide certain things from us, that allow details to reveal themselves in a way that only the written text can manage, but the narrators themselves never seem to lie or hide. Their minds are flawed, their desires are strange, but they are open. Despite all their failures, they're hard to completely dislike. They often inspire pity, though.
Which brings me to the content of the stories, which were hit and miss. Honestly, the stories felt like an exertion of the male gaze - not a bad thing. The men in these stories were eccentric, and they were almost always in love with a woman. They described women with an objectifying gaze, commented on beauty or ugliness, in the men's predictions of what the women thought and felt. All the women in this collection are described by their roles in the lives of the men. And yet, they are also often uncontrollable and wild, never submissive. At times, the women were domineering, unkind, dishonest. The narrators loved the women strangely, affected by their own psyche or their failures in character. Sometimes, the love was shown to be genuine and passionate. Most of the time, they were cheated on - adultery is a prevalent theme in this book. And it seemed that the women saw things the male narrators never did. I cannot make out if this book demonises women or criticises the unreliable male gaze/internal failures of the men. Or perhaps "criticises" is too harsh a word - simply reveals their weaknesses?
Still, in the best stories, Moriavi inserts this existential voice - things seem unreal, normal seems unimportant and unreliable, the significance of certain ideas/objects/appearances shift. Our expectations are played with. I felt it difficult to decipher or connect with the narrators, but the best stories in the collection are truly incomparable.
Favourites: The Chase; Signs; The Judas Tree; Why, Who Said So?; Man of Power; Smells and the Bone.

موراویا رو بیشتر دوست دارم ایده‌نویس یا فکر‌نویس صدا بزنم. به این خاطر که اگه سوالات فلسفی گنگ دارید برای خودتون و القضا دستی هم بر داستان نویسی داشته باشید، متوجه میشید تقریبا ایده های خامی که شما رو قلقلک میده برای داستان سرایی دقیقا از جنس آثار موراویا هستن. لزوما چهارچوب کلاسیک داستان نویسی ندارن، خیلی سبک و خوشخوان هستن، همگی اول شخص راوی هستن، مالیخولیایی هستن و مطلقا شخصی هستن.
زمانیکه پشت سر هم چند تا از داستان ها رو میخونید، متوجه میشید که تمام شخصیت ها در نهایت یکی هستن. و بنابراین من به شخصه از کلیت مجموعه زود خسته میشم. به جز معدودی از کارها که الحق هیچ وقت یادم نمیره و آخر داستان با خودم میگم: دهنتو سرویس موراویا! چی نوشتی!

Moravias noveller i boken är ganska udda och på ett unikt sätt blottar de mänskliga svagheterna. Det gör han på ett allvarligt sätt förenat med äkta humor.
Personbeskrivningarna i novellerna är fåordiga men ger en fantastisk och fullständig beskrivning av karaktärerna.
Moravia är absolut en mycket intressant författare och alla bokens noveller, som är ganska korta, 5-6 sidor, är underhållande var för sig.

ایده ها و نگاه نویسنده آدم رو سروحال میاورد. اما داستانهای انتهایی دیگه خسته کننده شده بود. داستان های ابتدای مجموعه بهتر بودن و شیرینتر.

What a fantastic collection of short stories by this master. Most of the tales are not longer than three pages, yet it's totally complexed and intriguing to the max. Lots of heartache, and in depth preception of being human. He notices the little things, and brings it to the forefront. Magnificent!
