So far, I have only read Dragonswan from this collection. This review will updated later as I read more.

This is a copy of my Dragonswan review that can be found under "Dragonswan."

I hate to rate this so low. I mean, it's just a fantasy.

You're a history professor specializing in pre-Norman Britain. A gorgeous guy who's six five comes into your office and starts chatting you up. Even though you're plain-looking (?) and your shirt is misbuttoned, your socks don't match, and you're dressed like a frump, this guy finds you irresistible. He takes you out to dinner.

Instead of being intimidated by your job, you find he can quote Beowulf in Old English from memory. He walks you back to your hotel and for some strange reason (you never do this! OMG!) you invite him in.

Then you two have amazing sex.

With every breath he expelled, it was like his touch intensified. Multiplied. Instead of one tongue stroking her, she swore she could feel a hundred of them. It was as if her skin was alive and being massaged all over at once.

Now, this personally sounds creepy to me. A hundred tongues? Blergh. Do you know why the sex with this guy is so "heightened?"

Because he's a weredragon! Oh, of course, that's the first thing that pops into my mind. o.O I seem to be reading a LOT of weredragon stuff lately...trust me, it's not intentional. The concept of "weredragon" didn't even exist in my mind until Shana Abé's books. Now, it seems every paranormal romance author and her sister is writing about them.

So. After having sex with this guy, both of you are suddenly branded with some geometric shape. Gasp! You're his mate! If you don't bond with him in 3 weeks, he will be doomed to live life alone, and never have sex again....
...

Here Kenyon's created a tailor-made woman's fantasy:
- Hot guy instantly in love with you for no reason. You don't have to do anything special, say anything clever, or look sexy. He just instantly is in love with you because of "who you are." He automatically knows "who you are inside" without, you know, having a conversation with you or anything.
- Hot guy would "never hurt you" and you are "safe with him." (note: see third bullet point under "things that fail")
- Hot guy has magical powers!
- Hot guy has an amazing body and is awesome in bed!
- Hot guy is PHYSICALLY INCAPABLE of cheating on you. Since you are his mate, he can never have sex with anyone ever again except you. Even if you leave him (which you're free to do), he's damned to a life of celibacy without you.
- Because you are his mate, you get a lifespan of 7 to 8 hundred years!
NONE OF THIS REALLY BOTHERS ME. This is what romance novels ARE. So, no points off.

Things that fail:
- While having sex, Sebastian bites Channon on the neck with his fangs and drinks her blood, and she grows fangs (one-time deal only) and drinks his blood too. I feel like I'm the only person on the planet who finds this gross and not sexy.
- Again, Kenyon likes to make her hero stick his tongue in the heroine's ear a lot. Every time I read that I involuntarily make a "blergh" face.
- Sebastian has the ability to cast spells on people. In the course of the story, he casts one sleeping spell on Channon. There's also this part where, if she had not let him in to the hotel room (for sex) he would have broken his vow of "interfering in human free will." She's willing to have sex with him, so, phew, crisis averted ... but I take away points for this. Bad. The idea that if she had been like, "Okay, bye" his inner beast (?) would have "forced" him to use a spell which takes away her free will is squicky to me. Nothing happens from it - but I wish Kenyon had just never brought it up in the first place. We could have completely sidestepped this whole thing. It also makes me scream "LIAR!" when he says stuff like "I would never hurt you." and "You're safe with me." Takes away a bit of his trustworthiness, not to mention that sleeping spell he cast on her without permission.

There are no other consent issues in the rest of the story, this was the only speedbump, and it was a pretty minor one, considering.

There is a cheesy story and dialogue, but that's okay - no points off - because this is a romance and I expect it to be silly.

Plot? Oh, you know. Good weredragons vs. evil weredragons... his sister was murdered and he was wrongly blamed and banished... but now his family have seen the error of their ways and he's unbanished... blah blah blah.

Grace must spend the rest of her life in Britain a thousand years ago, but she and Sebastian pop back to modern times once in a while so that she can catch up on Buffy .

Things that work:
- Channon's addiction to Buffy is cute. Making Sebastian watch marathons of Buffy with her is cute.
- It made me laugh when Sebastian called Ben Franklin "the Satan of my people." LOL So funny!

In case you think I am just being mean to Kenyon, I DO think her writing picks up a bit with Night Embrace. Reading and liking romance is subjective. Each reader is going to like different stuff. Because every romance author has their little "quirks" and also way of writing sex, the trick is to find an author who writes the fantasies YOU want to live out in your head. This can take a while. Kenyon's not "the one" for me in regards to romance books, but that's okay. She could be just the most perfect author ever for someone else. No judgment, this is just my personal take on the story.

One real star, two romance stars.

3.5 Stars (rating and review for Fire and Ice only)

Every time I read one of The League books I wish there were more futuristic romance novels out there. Kenyon does a great job of bringing the creativity and action of Star Wars to the drama and romance of Titanic. And with each release, I wish there were more books in the series so that I didn’t have to wait for the next installment.

Adron, a former League assassin and the son of Nykyrian and Kiara from Born of Night, is in a living nightmare after being tortured and disfigured in the line of duty. In constant and immense pain, he cuts himself off from family and friends and turns to alcohol and solitude.

Livia is trying to avoid her worst nightmare -- her tyrannical and abusive father marrying her off to a creepy old man who wants a virgin bride. Her only hope is to find a man and loose her virginity in the next 12 hours.

Overall, I truly liked this story. I had not particularly liked the heroines in the previous novels, but liked Livia who was strong and confident, yet gentle and loving. Adron is reminiscent of his father, who is one of my favorite tortured heroes.

However, after reading and loving the first three books, I question why Adron did not have a full book. While I think Kenyon did a pretty good job with the 116 pages she had, I can’t help but feel like the story was a bit rushed in some places (Livia’s development and family history) and a little repetitive in others (Adron’s self-loathing/doubt). Kenyon notes that it was difficult to get futuristic novels printed years ago. However, I wish she had broken out the original full novel for this release.

Never-the-less, Fire and Ice is a good addition to the series. And while I would have preferred a longer, more detailed book, it was still a good story that will help tie me over until the next installment, Born in Shadows.

I love the world Sherrilyn Kenyon has built. Not that I would want to visit, but voyeuristically reading about it is great! This book has three really great stories.

FIRE AND ICE is set on another planet or reality. A well known assassin is trying to while away the lonely hours of his forced retirement in a bar. Meanwhile a beautiful princess has decided to lose her virginity so the dirty old man her father is giving her to won't want to marry her. The two meet, she removes the pain of his war wounds and he relieves her of her pesky virginity. But then they realize the healing was only a mask and he ends up in the hospital. When her father comes to claim and punish her the assassin announces they are married. It's a good story. Needed a bit more world building, but it's a novella so...

KNIGHTLY DREAMS has a really cool concept. What if the hunky knight in the romance you are reading ends up in your bed the next morning? It's an adorable love story with magic and romance. A strong heroine who quickly learns how to manipulate the magic to achieve her goals, and an equally strong book boyfriend who only has eyes for her. Adds some depth to all MY fantasies, that's for sure. lol.

DRAGONSWAN takes us into Kenyon's world of the Dark Hunters. (Which I love) Channon has been studying dragons her entire life, so when she is studying a rare tapestry she is only mildly interested in the man who is trying to hit on her. Until she gets a good look at the man. Sebastian Kattalakis is definitely worth spending some time with. So, even though she knows it will be a one night stand, she's up for it. (You go, girl!) But then the mating mark shows up on his hand and Sebastian knows his goose is cooked. He has to take Channon back to his own time and possibly convince her to stay with him. After all, the mark means that he can never have sex with any one else but her. Talk about guaranteed monogamy. Love it! lol

These stories are all three terrific and a must read for fans of Sherrilyn Kenyon, (such as myself). ;-)

In Other Worlds by Sherrilyn Kenyon

3.5 in The League series and a prequel to the Were-Hunter series

4 stars

In Other Worlds is a collection of novellas by the wonderfully talented Sherrilyn Kenyon. You can argue with me on the talented part, but I stand by my love for her books. On to the book… the first novella and the reason I checked this book out at the library is FIRE AND ICE. Fire and Ice is a part of the League series. The story follows Adran Quiakides the son of Kiara and Nykyrian (Born of Night). Adron was crippled after trading his life to save a pregnant lady’s from a nut case. He meets Livia at a bar. Livia is a princess who is forced to marry a man twice her age because she is a virgin. She decides to have a one-night stand to take away her virginity to get out of her marriage proposal. I love the League novels, even this novella, that has me wishing it was a novel. I loved Adron and it was funny how much he reminded me of his father Nykyrian. Livia was a sweet girl, but she was a very strong character. I wish it was longer…

Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: 4

Swoon Worthy Scale: 4.5

Character Scale: 4.75

The second story is KNIGHTLY DREAMS. Knightly Dreams follows Taryn a girl who just got out of a terrible breakup and has a terrible day. Her day just kept going from bad to terrible with every step she took. Taryn stumbles upon a bookshop she’s never noticed before. She is persuaded to take a romance novel featuring Sparhawk the Brave. Sparkhawk wants out of the world he was created to live in, so he seeks out the help of the witch to help find a new world. When Taryn wakes up the next morning she finds Sparkhawk in her bed. Wow even after having read this a while back I’m still a little dazed by. I’m not sure what happened because it went from slow to so fast I had to reread some parts, but I enjoyed. Is it odd that I liked how it made my brain hurt? I like books that make me think and this book definitely had me doing that. I liked Taryn and Sparkhawk. They were good characters, but I liked Adron and Livia more.

Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: 3.5

Swoon Worthy Scale: 4

Character Scale: 3.75

The third and final story in this collection is DRAGONSWAN. Dragonswan is something of a prequel to the Were-Hunter series. Sebastian is a shape-shifting dragon cast off from his people for mistakes he has made. He meets Channon, a museum curator (I think that’s what she is, but I’m not sure… oh I know I’ll look on SK’s website real quick). It says she’s a professor/historian on her character profile, yea I could see that. So Sebastian meets her at a museaum while she is looking at the tapestry he has to steal to save his brother’s life. If you ask me Sebastian is a nice guy. I mean he was gonna steal to save his brother, who says he’s a disgrace and blah blah blah, which is just a really loving thing to do. He wins points for being heroic. Channon, eh she’s a plain character. She’s what I would call a Plain Jane. There wasn’t much to her and she was kinda boring at times.

Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: 2.75

Swoon Worthy Scale: 4.5

Character Scale: 3.25

Fire and Ice was my favorite of all these novellas. I had fun reading these novellas and I sped through them. It only took me a day to read this book and I’m not disappointed with Kenyon’s work.

Cover Thoughts: I like the cover, but the guy on it doesn’t look like any of the characters at least not how I pictured them to be.

Feb 2013 Reread: I just reread Fire & Ice, and I still LOVE that story and the League series!

I really enjoyed this anthology by Sherrilyn Kenyon which had three good stories in it.

Fire & Ice

5 Stars

Of all SK's series her League series is my absolute favourite and I have loved each book so far and this novella was no different. With her trademark tortured hero, Adron who who was viciously tortured after selflessly sacrificing himself for a pregnant woman he didn't know is now badly scarred and bitter his every movement an agony. Livia has had a sheltered life, but is determined to break free before she is forced to wed a man 60 years her senior. To do this she must lose her virginity so that her betrothed will no longer have her, and so that is what she intends to do, even if they kill her for it, and Adron seems just the man to help her out.

This was a great story I loved it, it had all the aspects of SK's writing which I love to moan about but still read; the soul deep romance; the tortured hero; the melodramatic writing, I lap that stuff up! Another aspect I liked is the family interaction, seeing all Adron's brothers and sister tease him and each other showing how much they love him was both funny and sweet. This is definitely story I would reread (and have done!)

Knightly Dreams

3 Stars

Of the three novellas this is the one I enjoyed the least. It was still fun and romantic, but I didn't really connect with either of the characters, that might be because it was so short, but it was still a (very) quick amusing read.

Dragonswan

4 Stars

This one was actually a reread for me as I have the ebook on my computer, I think this may actually be the first SK book I ever read. After rereading it I can see why I went on a major SK reading binge afterwards. It was romantic with a bit of action some steamy scenes and of course the requisite hot and tortured hero. I really enjoyed reading this again and I am glad I have it in paperback form as well as on my computer as I am certain I will want to read it again.

IN OTHER WORLDS - 4.6 out of 5 STARS

"Fire and Ice" - 5 Stars
Adron...ohhh, Adron, how I love you so. I love a man with scars, a man who is strong, intelligent, and determined. I feel bad for how horrible his life was until Livia came. I love that he protects her from her father and marries her. It broke my heart when he had to be in the hospital and said he wanted a divorce from Livia. And, is it just me, or does he seem like he would be an exceptional lover?

I absolutely loved Livia. I loved how she was unafraid to stand up to Adron all the time when no one else would because they were afraid of his wrath. It broke my heart when she was in a coma from healing him completely. And I love how she always tries to help him, even when he's surly.

My favorite part of the story: when Nykyrian walks in on them naked. Then Tiernan does the same thing later on.

I love Taryn and Tiernan's banter, and Zarina was as hilarious as ever.

I absolutely love when Adron freaks out about Livia talking to Kiara and Zarina about sex. Totally hilarious.

I thought it was cool that Nyk, Kiara, and all their kids show up at some point throughout the story.

I'm glad that Jayce and Adron are on friendly terms again, and I love that Adron and Livia name their baby after Jayce.

I love Devyn's cameo, even if it was only through old videos.

The video from the pregnant woman and her daughter always makes me cry.

I love, too, that this story is longer than the original version, and I love all the new scenes and new dialogue. I'm always up for more of Nyk and his peeps.

"Knightly Dreams" - 5 Stars
I love that this story was about a guy who literally came out of a book for Taryn, and I love the way she was able to rewrite the story for them.

I loved Taryn; she's sarcastic, funny, smart, loving. One of my favorite parts was when she took Hawk to Medieval Times to make him feel somewhat at home in her time.

I absolutely adored Hawk; he's strong, smart, funny, and determined. It was so cute the way he did special things for Taryn everyday for when she came home.

I wanted to beat Alinor for taking Sparhawk away from Taryn.

"Dragonswan" - 4 Stars
The biggest problem for me was the Katagaria prejudice. It drove me insane every time it came up in the story, because after having read all the other Were-Hunter books in the Dark-Hunter series, it's clear to me that Katagaria are better than Arcadians.

I did like Sebastian, though, despite the prejudice towards Katagaria. He was strong, honorable, funny, and loving. I love that he went to get the tapestry to save his brother even though Damos claimed to hate him, and I love how he continually protected Channon.

I liked Channon and thought she was intelligent, funny, and loving. I love how she protected Sebastian and his people in the end. I thought it was hilarious that she thought Damos was Katagaria and pulled a sword on him. I love how she mated Sebastian and it was awesome that she returned his powers with him being half-dead and unconscious.

It was interesting to see more of Damos, and I'm glad to finally get at least a little bit of an explanation about him because the other DH books don't. It would be awesome, too, if he got his own book soon.

I thought this was a great book to get myself out of my reading rut and it worked a treat!

Sherrilyn Kenyon's In Other Worlds contains two previously released books Dragonswan (part of the Dark-Hunter series) and Fire and Ice (part of The League series) along with a new story Knightly Dreams.

I have read Dragonswan before back in 2008 when I first got into the Dark-Hunter series. And I thought it was just ok but after re-reading it I much enjoyed it the second time around and thought it was a great book but just a bit too short. I remember when I read it the first time round Channon annoyed me but this time I didn't think she was quite as annoying which is possibly why I enjoyed it more.
I give Dragonswan a full 5 stars!

Fire and Ice was an amazing story and was so much more than I thought it would be for such a short story! I really loved Adron (who was briefly mentioned in Born of Night) I loved how much of an arse he was but for good reason and I adored Livia! She was awesome and really made the story for me. An awesome 5 stars!

Knightly Dreams was by far my least favourite story in the book. It started quite well and I was really interested in the storyline but after a while it just got quite silly and I guess I like it for the fun factor but it really wasn't something I would have read otherwise. And it's not that the character Sparhawk bothered me, it was the ending of the story that just got a bit ridiculous for me and but a damper on what was a really good story. So I only give Knightly Dreams 4 stars.

Overall I loved all three books but Fire and Ice was by far my favourite book, I just wish it was a longer story!

Fire and Ice

5 stars

Nice to have more stories about Generation 2. The League series is one of my favorite series. Enjoyed Adron and Livia's story a lot. Nice to see Nykyrian and Kiara again. Wonder if we will see This again. Also nice to know that Kyr is finally dead. Glad that Livia was able to heal Adron and they have a little boy. So cute!!! Another thing I'm glad about is Adron finally forgave Jayce and named his kid after him. Want to learn more about the Trisani. Wonder how many are still left in the world. Can't wait to read more League stories.

Knightly Dreams

5 stars

Another good story. Glad that Taryn and Sparhawk got their happy ending. Also liked that authors were able to write stories and have a Master Author. There are a whole bunch of stories just waiting to be written. Cool that Taryn was/is an author. Yay!!! Would be nice to be able to have a book character come to life. Who would you want to come to life? Not sure who I would want to come to life.

Dragonswan

5 stars

A good story. Always like the shapeshifters in the stories. Would be cool to be a shapeshifter. Dragons are one of my favorite shape-shifting groups. Also nice to see Saxon England. Would be cool to time jump. Channon and Sebastian had a good story though. Wonder how Shannon is doing in Saxon England.

Overall, this was a very good book. Sherrilyn Kenyon is one of my favorite authors. Hope there will be a book about Nick in the future instead of just his teenage years and book series. Hope there will be more stories about the second generation League characters. Want there to be a story on what happened to Kyr.

So I admit the only books of Sherrilyn's I've read are a few of the B.A.D. Agency novels and Fantasy Lover. Um, why have I not read the rest of her books yet?

Fire and Ice The first novella was from her League series and holy buckets, I really wish it was a full length novel. The hero was just my type - tortured, scarred, angry and completely arse over tits/head over heels in love with his woman. *siiiigh* Thank the stars I own the League series already. Makes it easier to dive in. Well, it will be once I read and return those 26 library books I have out right now.

Knightly Dreams The second novella was ok, not my favourite of the trifecta. A fun little fantasy that explores what reality really is and how we are in charge of our own destinies.

Dragonswan The third was really good, if a bit hard to follow. I'm thinking this is where reading the Dark- or Were-Hunters books beforehand would have come in handy. Still, I love me some tattooed men and I love me some shapeshifters. Put them together with the magical ingredient of time travel and you have one happy kitty.

All told, a highly satisfying (and quick) read. I recommend it both for readers already familiar with Sherrilyn's worlds and those looking for a better introduction than Fantasy Lover to said worlds.

This book contains 3 stories of romance, fantasy and magic, they are quick and fun to read.

Fire and Ice: This is part of Kenyon's League series and always it leaves you with the feeling that you wish there were more books to keep reading without having to wait. Futuristic romances between two characters both physically and mentally damages but with great hearts. They heal each other physically and mentally with their love.

Knightly Dreams: The story behind this one is the concept that a book chooses it's writer before they are completely written and they finish the story. The characters in this book revel against their story and finish it differently using the power of their love.

Dragonswan: Part of the dark hunter series, even if you haven't read the series, this book is fun and magic. You get your heroine, your good looking-hot dragon and you get your fantasy love story. What more can you ask, maybe that it could have been longer,

Great book to introduce yourself to these series if you are not familiar with them.

My favorite quotes from this book:
- Fire and Ice (Adron and Livia}
Adron - "I am the one who glued Zarina to the toilet seat when she was seven."
---------------------------------------
[Adron] held the towel to his nose and mouth. "I just damaged another internal organ. Who knows which one. Since they're all pretty much soup, it could be..." his voice trailed off as Theo came in with a gurney and three orderlies.
Theo shook his head, "You know, Adron, if you want to spend the night with me, there are easier ways of going about it. You could just ask."

- Knightly Dreams (Sparhawk and Taryn)
Sparhawk - "They are most skilled, but I could defeat them."

- Dragonswan (Sebastian and Channon)
Sebastian - "Be kind to dragons, for thou art crunchy when roasted and taste good with ketchup."
----------------------------------------------
Channon - "I have to tell you, it's a hard decision to make. Watching Spike prance around and be all Spikey, versus a couple hundred years of making love to a Greek god." She clucked her tongue. "What's a woman to do?"

My copy of this only contained The League short story - though I have read both of the other shorts in hardover and given each of them a 5star rating as well. This review is just for The League short story.

Loved this short which had us visiting with Adron (one of Nyk's sons) who had been severely injured during his time as a League Assassin and his lady-love, princess on the run Livia.

Adron's alcoholism and Livia's sheltered life make them seem an unlikely couple but I liked these two together a lot. Their story was quite sweet and brought a glimpse of terra firma life in this series. The conflicts for this couple were more accessible as was the way of reacting to them. Brief appearances by familiar faces round out this one sitting read.

Fire and Ice
This novella was about Adorn the son of Nykrian and Kiara. I loved him. My heart broke for him and all his sorrows. I was so glad that he found happiness with Livia. They needed each other and made each other whole. This was a great start to this collection of stories.

KNIGHTLY DREAMS
This was a fun story about a writer falling in love with her hero. Hawk was a super gorgeous knight who was stuck in a half finished book and he was brought to life by Taryn. I enjoyed this one but not as much as the first one.

Dragonswan
OK this was the last story in this book and it is the beginning of the were hunters. I loved it and I loved that it was about dragons.

Overall, a great compilation of stories.

Fire & Ice
I totally loved this one. I wondered what happened to Adron Quiakides when he appeared inBorn of Ice ( I think this is where I met him.). Livia typpa Vista was the absolutely perfect heroine for him. 5 stars!

Knightly Dreams
I didn't really like this one. Reminiscent of 80s type medieval romances. Kinda mushy and trite. 3 stars

Dragonswan
Bring on the dragons! I love me some dragons and Sebastian is currently my favorite. And Channon ain't bad either. 5 stars!

This was a great Kenyon collection, I wanted to read this when I finished all the dark-hunter novels but when I saw it had a short story from the league I read those first and I am glad I did, you dont need to but I think I understood Adron's character better having a bit of history on his and his family. You dont need much history on Sebastian for Dragonswan, honestly if you haven't read the dark-hunter books his character in them is extremely reclusive and you dont see him much anyway. Great read and I gave it 5 stars for a book of shorts it was more than I expected. Another great Kenyon!

a collection of three stories by Kenyon.

I had read Dragonswan in a standalone book. I love the Dark Hunter series and time travel both so I enjoyed this one even this time around.

Knightly Dreams was quite intriguing. I have never read anything like it. Not being a writer myself but possessing a good imagination I can see this as a possibility. No spoilers just read it.

Fire and Ice was my favorite. It was sweet with characters to care about. Ultimately about sacrificial love I was almost disappointed when it ended. I wanted to know more.

I really enjoyed this book. I actually already owned Dragonswan as a stand alone book, but it was great to read it again. I loved the story of Adron and Livia even though I wish it had been longer. Now I can't wait for Born of Shadows to come out. Finally I really enjoyed the unique spin of Knightly Dreams. Overall this anthology was a great addition to my Kenyon collection.

So Far:

Dragonswan - 5 Stars
I thought it was about time I read the short stories in the Hunterverse series and so this is the first one. I did read at least on Were-Hunter book so I understood their origins, and how their mated, but this was a good refresher and it cleared up any missing information or confusion I might have had. Ms. Kenyon is really could at what she does, she was able to draw me in and kept me glued and ultimately satisfied in my enjoyment of reading this story. I got a lot out of it and even though it wasn't a very long story I bonded with the characters right form the start. As the saying goes, Short and Spicy it is, well not exactly but you get the point.

So, I'm kind of new to romance novels. There's cliches to romance novels that really irk me and this does have those, some worse than others. Every single one has "the heroine is not like other girls! She's so normal and average and yet beautiful and wonderful!" and the men are "complete utter hunks, drop dead gorgeous, there goes the panties as they hit me with their charm and soulful stares" type. And each one seems to have a time limit to it that pushes things fast.

My least favorite was Fire and Ice. It fell very heavy on the tropes and the ending especially really ruined everything for me. It was too clean, wrapped up in a perfect little bow, for me.

Knightly Dreams was actually super creative and I enjoyed where Kenyon took the story. It was also amusing to read and while it too had a lot of similar issues to Fire and Ice, it actually did them better and they were easier for me to enjoy in this story.

Dragonswan was the best. I enjoyed both of the characters, hero and heroine, I enjoyed the world and the plot a lot more. It felt like the plot moved really fast but that's really the only fault. I found this one to be just an enjoyable read and might look into the whole series it comes from.

So, 2/3 of the stories are at least an enjoyable read overall but have a lot of the usual romance tropes so if they're a big bother I wouldn't recommend. If you're okay with or like the romance tropes and cliches there are some cool ideas and worlds here and its an easy read.

I wish Fire and Ice was a full-length novel! This relationship would have been so much more fun to read about than some of the others.

Also, I find it hilarious that the female characters ALWAYS get pregnant at the end. Women can fall in love and be perfectly content without a baby, in case anyone was wondering.

Dragonswan
As found in Other Worlds anthology which as Sherrilyn Kenyon novellas from her different series.
This is book #1.5 in the Dark-Hunter series. It is a novella to introduce the Were-Hunter series to the Dark-Hunter series but I am not sure that these characters are in the rest of the series at all.
Channon MacRae is a professor and scholar. She has been obsesses with a certain tapestry that depicts a battle between a dragon and a man for years. She is studying the tapestry at the museum where it is housed when she hears a man say, “Be kind to dragon, for thou art crunchy when roasted and taste good with ketchup.” She turns around to see the most gorgeous man she’s ever seen standing there.
I knew I liked Sebastian right then and there because he had a sense of humor. I laughed a lot at some of the things he said that Channon thought were jokes but were actually the truth about being a dragon. When she asks him what a man like him is doing at the museum, he tells her he’s there to steal the tapestry. She thought it was a joke but he really was there to steal it.
Sebastian is strangely attracted to this human female with her shirt buttoned up crooked and her mismatching socks. He is an ancient Arcadian Sentinel, a human who can shift into dragon form and who slays Katagaria dragons. Katagaria are enemies of the Arcadians. They are animals that can shift into human form. He has to leave in the morning back to his era in time but he wants to spend time with Channon so he asks her out.
Channon agrees to go out with him and then sleeps with him that night. While she is sleeping, Sebastian goes back to the museum and steals the tapestry.
His sister made the tapestry centuries ago. It depicts their family history and he needs the tapestry to save his brother from Katagaria dragons who have kidnapped him. The Katagaria dragons want the tapestry because they think it holds some kind of secret.
When the mating mark, a geometrical design, appears on Sebastian’s hand, he knows he is mated to Channon. He knows that he only has three weeks to get her to agree to the mating ritual or he will become impotent for as long as Channon lives but he has to get back to his time period to trade the tapestry for his brother or his brother will be killed and he can only time-travel on the full moon at first light. He also knows that if he leaves Channon alone, other Were-Hunters will recognize her as his mate and could kill her so he doesn’t want to leave her alone. The only way a Were-Hunter can take someone else through time is if they agree so he wakes up Channon and she groggily agrees.
Channon wakes up on the back of a huge horse back in Saxon England before England was even a country named England. Sebastian explains their dilemma and she is pretty cool with it. She figures that she can learn all about history and then go back on the next full moon if she chooses.
But she doesn’t get how dangerous it is until they reach their destination and Sebastian’s enemies come after him. Will she choose to mate with Sebastian and live in such a dangerous time or leave him forever and go back to her own time?

So I have actually read two of these short stories before in the form of e-books so I'll be reviewing them in a rather mixed order. Though (spoilers) I love all of them.

Dragonswan: Last in the compilation of the book, it is actually the first one of Sherrilyn's stories that I ever read. I found it in a book called Tapestry. I'd gotten it due to my love for Miss Lynn Kurland and discovered a new and very proud love and respect for Sherrilyn Kenyon. The story made me giddy and overjoyed and left me wanting more of this world of shape-shifters. I mean, what girl doesn't want a dragon who would do anything for her? I mean there is no question about that, Were-Hunters are definitely my favorite form of shifters, probably ever in the world and likely always will be.

Knightly Dreams: Stand alone (as far as I know), it's the quintessential dream that every girl has of a man walking straight off the page and into her arms. But it's so much more than just a little fantasy. It also shows the power of a writer and of stories and I think that is probably why it is one of my favorite stories of all time.

Fire and Ice: This was the only one that I had not read before as I'm still fairly new to the League series, though I'm working on fixing that. And, as Sherrilyn is so very good at doing, she made me feel things. I felt feelings and I have to say that I did not like them. They made me cry. But I absolutely loved the story and I feel that it really built upon the world that Sherrilyn has created in the league novels.

No matter which of her series you read or have read or if you're just starting out, In Other Worlds is definitely a good route to meander down to learn about some amazing characters and to find some wonderful stories.

My favorite was Fire and Ice a badly injured Adron (Nykyrian and Kiara's son) is angry with his brother Jayce for not following the assassins oath and killing him when he found him barely alive. Now he lives in constant pain that he tries to dull by drinking. Livia is fixing to be married off to a man old enough to be her grandfather and there is only one way to stop it, the old goat won't marry her if she isn't a virgin. So she goes to the bar where Adron is hanging out with the sole purpose of losing her virginity. When her Father's guards show up she dives into the booth where Adron is attempting to drink himself into oblivion. She winds up going home with him and she uses her Trisani abilities to temporarily take his pain away and they make love. When her irate Father shows up to beat her and humiliate her Adron stands up to him and claims Livia as his wife, but shortly after that he collapses. Adron tries to get Livia to divorce him as he does not want her stuck with a cripple but she refuses to go and they fall in love. Livia manages to get Adron to go out in the world more and enjoy as much of the world as he can but when they run into Jayce things take a fatal turn when the two get in a physical fight. Adron is dying and there is nothing they can do to save him when Livia uses her powers to completely heal him. But the cost is Livia is in a coma and that doctors don't expect her to come out of it. Adron attempts to bring her Mother to her in hopes of saving her.

Knightly Dreams and Dragonswan or the other short stories in the book. Dragonswan is a Were-Hunter book and I have read it before.

Fire and Ice:

This one reminded me just why I fell in love with her League series. And while our Hero, Adron, is the typical brooding asshole he's not completely irredeemable. Even going as far as to bind himself to our Heroine to protect her from her family. While a lot of his angst is because of his disability, she understands it, and sympathizes, and even better doesn't get impatient with him.

4/5 Stars.

Knightly Dreams:

I really enjoyed this one, but I suppose I'm biased as a writer. I like to imagine my characters are real as I breathe life into them. A tale of author falling in love with her character and making your own destiny.

5/5 stars.

Dragonswan:

This one is a little iffy for me as I enjoy it but at the same time as I've grown to love the series (Dark Hunter and Were Hunter) for it's plot I grow tired of the constant lusting. Sebastian is also Arcandian, which would mean wouldn't he have more control over his animal instincts? It also bothered me when .

Thankfully Sherrilyn's moved on from such things. I find I like her newer works more than some of her older works.

3/5 stars.

I am a huge fan of SK, and was really interested in this set of three short stories. To be honest, I had previously read both Knightly Dreams and Dragonswan in other anthologies. Dragonswan will always be one of my favorite short stories that has to do with the Acardians and Katagaria. Both are stories that I enjoy reading over again. I was most looking forward to reading Fire and Ice, a short story from The League series (my personal favorite series.) It tells the story of Nykyrian and Kiara's son, Adron. (Nykyrian and Kiara's story was Born of Night and the first in The League series.) The author has such a great gift with dialogue, and her characters are quite complex and compelling. I truly enjoy that her characers, despite facing often horrific and monumental challenges, always seem to retain their humanity and sense of honor.
