The Oedipal Complex has never been so sexy...

Alex Carradine can't believe his father wants to come and visit his ski resort. Could it be that after so many stormy years, "slick Mitch" Carradine wants to offer an olive branch? Maybe the old man is mellowing, settling down with the new lover he's bringing along. Then Alex realizes the acid truth. This is no warm family visit. His father's new conquest is none other than the woman of Alex's sexual fantasies, meant only to dangle tauntingly in front of his face. At least an unexpected blizzard has frozen his father out of the picture entirely.

Angeline Kastakis was looking forward to taking the next step in her relationship with Mitch. Too late, she realizes she's been led into a familial battle zone. Now it's Christmas and she's marooned in a blizzard with an insolent, gorgeous hunk of man whose blazing blue eyes tell her loud and clear he wants her in his bed. Preferably tied to it with a bow. There's no escape in sight. But as Alex stirs her secret longing to be mastered by a man, escape is the last thing on her mind...

Warning: This book contains scenes of sensual submission hot enough to make you sweat in a blizzard.

4 stars – Holiday/Contemporary Erotic Romance

Angeline is trapped at a rustic ski resort cabin with her much older, sophisticated boyfriend Mitch’s rugged, cold, gruff son Alex during a blizzard that hits right before Christmas. The last thing she expected was to bear the brunt of Alex’s anger with his father or to feel such stark, explosive, undeniable sexual attraction toward him. Alex demands her surrender and submission in bed, unleashing desires Angeline never knew she possessed, like being restrained and spanked, but is it all just an act of oedipal revenge against his father, or something real and much deeper between them?

Beth Kery pens some of the steamiest sex scenes in erotic romance, and this was a satisfyingly hot holiday novella, especially for a Kindle freebie. I was worried about the son seducing his father’s girlfriend storyline being weird, but they’re the same age and it’s handled well. Like most of Beth Kery’s heroes, Alex is a demanding, dominating man of few words, and his intentionally rude, brusque treatment of Angeline irritated me at times. But I also understood his frustration, especially considering Alex’s estranged relationship with his judgmental, condescending father, who might have been a wealthy, charismatic, and polished Richard Gere type, but was a bastard all the same.

It’s a steamy romance with a hot alpha hero who has a preference for light bondage and mild spanking that’s guaranteed to warm you up on a cold winter’s day.

Angeline is expecting a surly young man when she travels to a ski lodge to meet her boyfriend's son, but instead finds herself snowed in with a huge, handsome guy who instinctively knows just how she's subconsciously always wanted to be dominated.

I tend to be turned off by books in which people sleep with people who are related to each other, so props to Kery for letting us know right away that this wasn’t one of those. That earns the book a reprieve from my "icky" shelf. But though it had some hotness, the prose sometimes reached laughably purple, even icky moments. The plot was a bit predictable. And the fantasy element of the perfect dom who doesn't need any negotiation or safewords or what have you just didn't work for me here, somehow. It may appeal more to readers who really dig that fantasy.

On reflection, I think the main turnoff for me was that Angeline seemed really wimpy; the sections written from her point of view were okay, but every time we saw her from Alex's point of view, she sounded like such a doof, I wondered why the heck he was still interested in her.

Don't let the book description above confuse you - there's no father/son ick factor involved with this one. Just a gorgeous alpha man shacked up with the woman of his dreams for one very hot Christmas weekend in his ski resort's cabin - in the middle of a snow storm - HAWT! Although the sex happens fairly quickly, I was still totally sucked in and engaged with the characters because Beth Kery has a knack for writing some of the best love scenes in the erotic romance genre. Angelina must resolve her feelings of guilt for sleeping with her colleague/boyfriend's son (trust me - you DON'T know everything - it's not as bad as it seems) and Alex must convince Angelina that his feelings are the real deal. That he's not simply trying to stick it to his father (they have a very acrimonious relationship). This is an HEA, so you can guess who succeeds ;)

3.5 star mild BDSM

I downloaded this book by mistake, boy am I glad I did. It has been in the TBR for some time. I am a big Beth Kery fan; I have been since Vic in Wicked Burn. Alex definitely follows the hard core alpha male role that Kery is so fond of.

The amount of character development was great for what amounts to a short story. I really wanted Alex to get what he wanted, even if at times his methods were a bit "cavemanish".

Overall very good, quick little read.

"Hot and sizzling to scorch the pages. Need ice cubes to cool down."

Beth Kery writes hot, sizzling romances that scorched the pages (or your laptop or e-reader) in your hands, not to mention your need for ice cubes to cool down.

Alex Carradine comes across as primal, powerful and so blatantly male, the total opposite of his sophisticated and elegant father Mitchell. No wonder Angeline Kastakis was confused, yet she couldn't help but be attracted to Alex, despite the guilt she may feel at lusting after the son of her boyfriend. Not that there was anything serious between her and Mitchell, nor was their relationship an exclusive one. Because Alex brought out things in her that she wasn't even aware of, things that give the word "pleasure" a deeper and more intense meaning.

Alex came on so strong for me that Angeline was a bit overshadowed. Yet, I like that she has progressed over the course of the book, from not liking Alex and being suspicious of him to a sort of "reliance" on him, on his being so sure of his feelings about the two of them being together. And it was this steadfast certitude of his that made her stand firm in the storm of doubts that rose up in her mind. Oh yes, in addition to his extreme hotness and raw maleness, Alex is also very sweet.

For those who like their intimate scenes flaming hot with the fires still roaring, then this is the book for you. All because of Alex, a dominant male who likes to tie up his women and paddle their backsides. All in the name of pleasure, of course. Yet by far, the hottest scene for me is the one in Alex's workout room told from his point of view.

Note to readers: This book contains scenes of light bondage, domination and spanking. I'm not into BDSM myself, but I really enjoyed reading this, so I have no doubt you will as well. *wink*

What a steamy short Christmas read!!!! I have never read Beth Kery before and she didn't disappoint.

Angeline Kastakis is in the middle of a battle zone between her boyfriend Mitch and his son Alex. Mitch and Alex do not get a long, but when Mitch reaches out to Alex to bring his new girlfriend to Alex's resort, Alex does not know what to expect.

Angeline gets caught in a blizzard and Alex is the one that finds her in the ditch while she is on her way to the resort to meet Mitch. Not only does Alex have eyes for Angeline, but he wants her bound in his bed forever.

Kery brings the heat to melt the snow on this night when the blizzard starts. I don't think you could have asked for more from this couple. Not only was it sometimes emotional for these characters, but the way they connect was just outstanding. It was a great little treat and has opened me up for more titles by Beth Kery.

I would recommend this short read for all my Christmas ladies who wouldn't mind being bound in the dead of winter, with one really hot guy that can send heat racing through your veins. This story is currently free on amazon kindle. If you get the time its well worth checking out.

Mmmm, Mmmm, Mmmm, this was a delciously sexy holiday read for me.
Angeline is involved in a relationship with the successful, sexy Mitchell. They've been dating for two months and he invites her to spend Christmas with him at his son's ski resort. On her way to the resort a terrible winter storm hits and she becomes stranded en route. Mitchell has described his son as a rude brute, so imagine her surprise when he comes to her rescue on the road and he's a flannel shirt wearing, outdoorsy god!
Things get uncomfortable for the two of them back at Alex's house when they're stranded without power. The tension is so thick you can cut it with a knife and it's not all about being irritated with Alex's rude and aggressive attitude, this man is sexy, sexy, sexy.
Eventually, Angeline gives into her needs and makes the best out of a roaring fire, two sleeping bags, and a smokin' hot man. YUM!
This is a quick read with lots of sexy content, some mild bdsm (hello spanking), and a decent plot! Four stars!

It was a nice story, I enjoyed it. But it was a short story and like so many of those it was lacking substance because of the limited length. The writing style was OK, there were some things that felt a little off to me. I would try other books by this author again.

A quick, hot read. The topic was a bit “risky” with a woman falling into bed with her boyfriend’s son, but it was nicely done…And besides, who could resist Alex’s animal magnetism? ;)

There is nothing better than getting a book by an author whose work I enjoy reading and the book is free(pssssst it’s still free until Dec 15 - download it now!).

Holiday bound by Beth Kery is exactly what you would expect from her. Don’t know what to expect? Well this is not your Mother’s romance. Holiday Bound is a short, sexy, sizzling erotic story. This book should have come with a disclaimer. I’m surprised my Itouch didn’t instantaneously combust as I was thumbing through the pages. Yowza I was feeling all hot and bothered and it wasn’t just because I was working out! I could've used a fan and a tall cool drink of water (ok I did have that close at hand) while reading this E-gniting, erotic E-read.

It’s Christmas. They’re snowbound…no electricity…no way out…no help on the way and only each other to warm the long cold night ahead. Is this a recipe for disaster or a wild fire about to burn out of control? Dear Santa: if you’re planning on coming down their chimney - you better watch your boots don’t catch on fire.

Alex Carradine left the big city and his life as a mover and a shaker in Chicago 4 years ago when he decided to chuck it all and retreat to Holiday Valley to run a ski resort. Alex is sceptical and with good reason when his estranged father Mitch wants to visit for the holidays and bring his latest and greatest main squeeze along for the ride. Maybe hell has frozen over, but Alex is willing to give Daddy Dearest the benefit of the doubt and what better time to try and rebuild their relationship than Christmas….a time for giving.

Of all the dumb luck! Alex can’t believe the woman he’s just rescued from the stranded SUV on his property is Angeline Kastakis...this is his Dad’s new girlfriend? Angeline...the woman he fantasized about 4 years ago and hasn’t been able to forget? And where is Mitch? What is his father up to now? Is Father Christmas playing a cruel joke on Alex by tempting him and his willpower with Angeline Kastakis? And to top it off...now they’re home alone for the holidays.

Angeline is conflicted about her feelings for the intense and gorgeous Alex - son of the man she's in a relationship with. She agreed to this little get-away with Mitch so they could explore their relationship and hopefully take it to the next level. But Alex is a force to be reckoned with when he's in full out attack mode...and he’s got his sights on Angeline. I might have had a momentary twinge about how easily Angeline caved to Alex’s aggressive approach considering she was supposed to be dating his father, but I got over it quickly. Alex is a take charge kinda guy.

There is lots of steamy, smexy action including interestingly enough an explicit encounter involving some gym equipment...mmmm...I may never look at that equipment the same way again. It also probably explains why I was breathing a little extra hard.

Want to add a little Christmas present to your E-reader? Download Holiday Bound, sit back and enjoy.

You couldn’t ask for a nicer holiday present, in the shape of a story. The author very carefully tiptoes around the concept that the heroine, Angeline, is the putative girlfriend of Daddy Mitch Carradine. So when son Alex oversteps his bounds, so to speak, there is a big hint of forbidden love, but since Angeline and Mitch have not yet been physically involved, it’s not - quite - cheating.

Alex is much easier to like than Angeline. He has more of a definite personality, whereas Angeline is more go-along-to-get-along. She should be pissed that Mitch has sent her alone into the middle of nowhere, in the teeth of an oncoming storm, all by herself. The story has her getting her vehicle stuck in a place where Alex can hear and reach her - but what if he hadn’t? She would’ve died in the storm, and that thought, getting mad at Mitch because he risked her frickin’ life while he was busy with More Important Things, never crosses her mind. Angeline does grows more of a backbone by story’s end.

I want Alex in my stocking for Christmas. He’s super-tall, super-strong, handsome, sensitive enough to keep his grandmother’s Christmas ornaments, as well as those he’s carved himself, on hand. Because Christmas is important to Angeline, he even cuts down a Christmas tree to bring into his home, although he has a large already decorated one in the ski resort they can’t quite reach.

I have to say, I’m not a fan of the last name Carradine for a fictional hero. These days, I always wonder if this is the Carradine from Kung Fu, or the Carradine from Dallas; IMO the author would be better picking a name with less pop culture recognition. I also believed the forgiveness in the end for Daddy Dearest came a little too easy.

I thought the story moved a little too fast to feigned bondage and spanking. I thought the scene set in the exercise room was both ridiculous, and made me want to get my own exercise room.

I must say, smokin’ hot sex covers a multitude of distractions and minor flaws. This novella is superhot and one that I will probably be rereading for many holiday seasons to come.

Original Romancing the Darkside Review:

The perfect read to heat up your holidays!

When Angeline is invited by her (older) boyfriend Mitch Carradine on a weekend trip to his son's ski resort, she gladly accepts, with hopes of taking their relationship to the next level. On her way there, she becomes stranded due to a massive blizzard and is rescued by none other than the handsomely rugged Alex, Mitch's son. With nowhere to go, Angeline is faced with spending her long awaited Christmas weekend, with a sexy stranger instead. There is no love lost between Alex and his father Mitch, but when he's in the presence of his father's latest conquest, Angeline, she sparks an uncontrollable, primal desire in him that tests his willpower like no woman ever has...

Holiday Bound is a sexy and sensual story with character depth and substance. I was pleasantly surprised with the author's style of blending erotica with contemporary romance. Angeline is a fun leading lady who comes off as a little naive but quickly shows us she's anything but. Alex is an Alpha lover's dream come true with his brute manner, tender heart and dominant ways, it's hard to not fall for his character!

Kery pens an erotic holiday tale that is sure to keep you warm on those cold winter nights. The pairing of characters is perfect and so is their chemistry. I devoured this short novella and though I was left wanting more, enjoyed it immensely. If a little submission and scorching scenes of passion are your cup of tea in a story, look no further, you won't be disappointed with Holiday Bound!

*Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Light bondage, BDSM theme and elements.

Four years ago, Alex caught sight of the woman of his dreams. A woman his father, Mitchell, mocked him for wanting, even demeaning Angeline's femininity and appearance in the process. To discover, now, that that very woman has been dating his vile sire for the past two months, Alex is both pained and enraged.

While the Oedipal Complex remark in the blurb had me taking a seriously long pause before downloading this free read, it only took a small number of pages to realize that this story wasn't going to be half as creepy as I'd imagined. In fact, it rocked. Every little thing that came out of Alex's mouth had me rooting for him. Even when he was quite an ass to Angeline when he first rescued her from the storm, I couldn't fault him. Hell, she annoyed me too. As he comes to discover who she really is and makes no excuse for his desire of her, well, that just sealed the deal. His rough exterior gives way to a very vulnerable, romantic guy whose passion in bed makes him great fantasy material. He cuts a tree down for her for goodness sake!

With light BDSM and steamy love scenes guaranteed to warm your blood faster than your favorite cup of cocoa, I'm definitely considering reading this baby again next Christmas.

When I began the change of life, I was told my libido would change in one of two ways - hot or cold with no in-between. So I could be the frigid ice queen for my remaining years. Or, with a little priming, I could be like the proverbial horny teenaged male. Guess which one I opted for?

In my studies, I learned that men are visually stimulated while women are stimulated within their minds, by their imaginations. So I started reading erotica, classified as "smut" by my grown and nearly grown sons.

As smut goes, I haven't found much out there that is better than this! It is completely unapologetic in being all about passionate (and sometimes dominant) sex and nothing else... Until the very end. This story gives the term "Happy Ending" a whole new double meaning ~ I loved it!!! 5 STARS

I read this book last Christmas and the Christmas before. It still stands out as one of my favorites. Alex's estranged father is coming to visit his ski resort and meeting his much younger girlfriend there. When a blizzard closes the roads, Angeline (the girlfriend) gets stranded, and Alex's father never makes it. Alex rescues Angeline and brings her to his cabin.

What follows is a great romantic, erotic tale. In fact, this may have been my first erotic read with some BDSM elements in it. At the time I first read it, it was the hottest book I ever read, and when I re-read it this Christmas it was still as good as I remembered.

Pure Alpha male with light bondage and spanking, plus a great love story. I wish it were longer!

5 stars for story, 5 for heat. Great read!

Alex Carradine is completely surprised that his father wants to visit his ski resort for the holidays, especially since they have never really been on good terms. So when he finds out that this is NOT the family reunion he had imagined, he is super pissed. Alex's dad, Mitch, is dating the girl that Alex has always longed for and is bringing her along to flaunt her in front of him. But when sweet and beautiful Angeline and Alex get trapped together in his cabin during a blizzard, things turn out in the way that no one could have predicted.

This was a fun and sexy story that was great to read during the holiday season. I enjoyed not only the steamy sex scenes but also the well thought out storyline and excellent character growth.

Honestly, two good things about this little ebook, it was free and it's entertainingly smutty, otherwise there's lots to annoy. So many errors especially with clothes getting removed twice, and just feeling too odd and stilted. I'm also not too sure about all the references to Oedipus. Is the author suggesting that by Alex's pilfering of his father's "girlfriend" that she's his mother or that he's off to top his father?

Anyway, moderately entertaining, but not worth much more than amazon is offering it for at present. (ie free).

I like this even though it was oddly quasi incestuous. She is dating his father which is how they meet each other, and end up getting it on.

I liked that a little bit of the confusion and awkwardness related to the fact that she was dating his father is delved into a bit and that she doesn't throw caution to the wind completely until they are no longer snowed in. I also liked that it was all sex sex sex, there is a little bit of holiday cheer and nesting as well.

Overall, for a short Christmas read, this got me in the mood!

A steamy snowbound Christmas tale about lust, lies, and admitting what we really want. It maybe cold outside, but Alex and Angeline are burning it up. I refute the Oedipal tie-in, so if that is discouraging anyone--don't let it. Also the resolution was abbreviated and the conclusion could have been expanded slightly.

Sizzling D/s and bondage with spankings.

GOODREADS BOOK SYNOPSIS

MY THOUGHTS

With temperatures soaring into the 100's here in Central Texas my thoughts turned to cooler weather and in keeping with that I found my copy of Holiday Bound that was a free read at the time I got it from Barnes and Noble. This may be a story set during a Blizzard at Christmas time but make no mistake you will not keep cool reading about all the snow and ice because Alex and Angeline make too much heat with their steamy erotic romance story! The author took Angeline's character to the limits when she paired her up with the very dominant Alex Carridine. I recommend to anyone looking for a sexy summer reading experience with enough holiday flair to get you in the mood for some stockings hung on the mantel and some making naughty with your significant other in front of a fire. For a less than 150 page story this little novella has quite a wallop that will satisfy even the most die hard fans of the auhor.

I'll be the first to admit, the blurb for this seemed a bit iffy for me because of the whole father/son connection but, if you can get over the initial ick-factor, this story ends of being really great. It's truly a romantic story with a little bondage and whole lot of alpha male. This was a quick, easy read but once that I could see myself reading each year when winter rolls around.

I thought with Christmas creeping closer and closer it was time for me to start reading some festive novels and get into the holiday spirit. I saw Holiday Bound recommended by Amazon in their free Kindle ebooks section and thought it would be perfect to start my Christmas reading.

I found the premise interesting but unfortunately due to length issues Beth Kery did not explore the subject as thoroughly as I would have liked.

Alex is an interesting and layered character (as layered as one can be in such a short novella), thankfully Beth Kery spends enough time to give us details about his background with his father so that the reader understands the complexity and problemacy of their relationship.

However, somehow Beth Kery forgot about Angeline along the way and left her standing there without giving us some depth into how a woman who has been going out for 2 months with a man can after only spending a couple of hours together with that man's son sleep with him based on physical, sexual attraction. And even later, once her hormones subside, we don't get too much of a glimpse into the workings of Angeline's mind and feelings .

My other complaint is the ending of the novel, I found it too improbable and a cliché, and I missed that after the big showdown between Mitch, Alex and Angeline nothing was resolved: neither Mitch and Alex, or Alex and Anegline or Angeline and Mitch spoke about the problem and what to do about the situation!

Verdict: But overall the attraction between Alex and Angeline is sizzling, and the dominating yet protective alpha maleness of Alex will make anyone feel hot and bothered. A nice short book to read by the fire on a cold winter night.

The cover is a great representation of the book, so you know what to expect when starting it: Holiday Bound is a sparkly festive, sexy and saucy story :-)

This is one of those books that isn't going to appeal to everyone, the two main characters indulge in a bit (or more than a bit) of dominance and submission, but for those that are willing to give it a try it's very fun and well-written. Now, I feel like I should admit that I really like books where the characters get snowed in/trapped together/etc and give in to their animal passions. What? It's a thing. I also like amnesiac vampires, but that's neither here nor there.

The sex was hot. I liked that Alex wasn't portrayed as someone who liked to humiliate or hurt, but simply as someone who enjoyed being in charge in bed. It was a nice change from some of the D/s stories where everything is about treating the woman (or man, if he's the submissive) like total shit in the name of dominance.

Overall, I really enjoyed this. It wasn't terribly long, but the characters felt well rounded and the plot moved along nicely.

What an awesome read and I think I got this Beth Kery Christmas story as a freebie! I have read Beth Kery before so I knew that she writes yummy light D/s stories so I am glad that she didn't disappoint.

The heat was awesome in this book and just the right amount/level for how short the story was. Now even though it was shorter than a full novel, the story didn't feel rushed or hurried along. It was paced excellently and I really felt I got a great plot. Normally when a story is shorter I almost never give it more than 3 stars because I usually think that there was not enough for me to get involved but that was not the case here. I totally enjoyed it even if I paid $5 or higher.

Angel and Alex were a great couple and Beth Kery's writing was as usual spot on. It was a cold winter storm and I actually had to put slippers and a house coat on because I FELT how cold it was. When an author can move me like that in print, she gets a big kudos from me and that my friends gets a 4 stars.
