Dark-Hunter #6

Seize the Night

Rate this book
Dark-Hunter: an immortal warrior who has traded his soul to Artemis for one moment of vengeance on his enemies. In return, they swear to spend eternity protecting mankind from the daimons and vampires that prey on them. Valerius isn't a popular Dark-Hunter - he's a Roman, which means that the largely Greek Hunters have a major grudge against him and his civilization for superceding them. To make things worse, he's very conscious of his aristocratic background and breeding. So it serves him right when he runs into Tabitha Devereaux. She's sassy, sexy, and completely unwilling to take him seriously. (Not to mention Tabitha is also the sister-in-law of Kyrian, a former Dark-Hunter and Val's mortal enemy.) What Tabitha does take seriously is hunting and killing vampires-and soon she and Val have to grapple with the deadliest of all Daimons - one who's managed to come back from the dead, and one who holds a serious grudge against both of them. To win against evil, Val will have to loosen up, learn to trust, and put everything on the line to protect a man he hates and a woman who drives him nuts.

Here is my impersonation of Acheron in this book:
*in my best Acheron voice*

What? You're dead? Not on my watch. Here... have a little immortality. Oh, you too? You can be immortal now, too. Oh... your sister is immortal, so you should be immortal also. Ahh... but not that sister. She's going to stay dead. But, you over there... yeah, you're not going to stay dead either. You're immortal, too. But, not your mother. I'm afraid I'm going to let her stay dead. Where's my Simi?

“Love isn't easy. Anyone who says differently is lying to you. But it is worth fighting for.”

As for me, Seize the Night is one of the best books of 2012. It is the 6th book of the Dark-Hunter Universe series, the story of Tabitha and Valerius.

The story is just perfect, I loved it! It is filled with unforgettable characters, incomparable romance, mesmerizing erotica, real drama and tragic losses, vicious and powerful antagonists, witty and deep dialogues, sparkling humor, forceful emotions, thrilling and dynamic action.

The romance
What I liked the most was the development of the relationship of Tabitha and Valerius. It is a relationship with no doubts and no games. Their problems come from external sources. Even though they both know that they couldn’t be together, when they realize that they can’t live without each other, they decide to make it possible, somehow. Together.

Tabitha is the heroine I would choose to be. She is exquisite. Strong, brave, and beautiful with unmatched intelligence. She is perceptive, honest, open, and reasonable.

"Life is serious."
"No," she said, her passion glowing in her blue gaze. "Life is and adventure. It's thrilling and scary. Sometimes it's even a bit boring, but is should never be serious."

From their first encounter, throughout the story, Valerius is continuously stunned by her actions, intelligence, kindness, and unbiased attitude. I really enjoyed his perceptions about her, and seeing as he slowly lets her into his heart.
“Saeva scaeva,” Valerius muttered under his breath.
“Saeve puer,” she shot back.
Valerius actually gaped at her. “Did you just insult me in Latin?”
“You insulted me first. Not that I’m particularly insulted by being called a rampant she-devil . It’s kind of flattering, but still, I’m not the kind of person to take an insult in silence.”
In spite of himself, he was impressed. It had been a long time indeed since he’d met a female who knew his native tongue. Of course, he didn’t like being called an oafish boy, but there was something to be said for a woman who possessed such intelligence.
And it had been an eternity since he was around someone who didn’t openly disdain him. She wasn’t biting in her retorts. Rather she was sparring with him like a champion debater who took none of this to heart.
How unusual…
How frighteningly refreshing.

She is vivacious, and outspoken, with no holding back. Okay, there is one teeny-weeny bit of information she holds back from Valerius, but when it is revealed, her reasoning is clear and comforting. It is one of my favorite parts of the story.

Valerius is the most misunderstood Dark-Hunter so far. His childhood was a real horror, his human life ended in unimaginable misery. Since then, he has had no peace. He is displeased, hated, and mocked by his fellow Dark-Hunters and the Squires as well. No one wants to know his real personality, because they are not willing to see over their own prejudices. No one, but Tabitha.

When one was an immortal, the freshness of life had a way of dying even more quickly than one's body had. As the centruies blended together, it was easy to forget the human side of oneself. To remember why humanity needed saving.
It was hard to remember how to laugh. Then again, laughter and Valerius were virtual strangers. Until Tabitha, he'd never really shared a laugh with anyone.

His rigidity is only a façade. He is incredibly lonely. Underneath his behavioral “defense mechanism”, he is passionate, loving, and caring. He is an equal partner of Tabitha. He respects her above all. He has no intention to change her in any way.

The plot is precisely structured. Valerius and Tabitha’s first encounter and the scene when Tabitha , give a great – and funny as hell – frame of the story. The story is complex, with multiple layers. The action line and the development of the romance are perfectly composed. The merging of the background stories of Kyrian and Zarek with Valerius’s is brilliant.

I appreciate the author’s bravery to sacrifice some precious characters in order to write a truly heartbreaking story.

The final scenes – – are hilarious!!! It is a perfect ending: not sentimental, not cheesy or awkward, but amusing and intimate.

Seize the Night goes into the collection of my all-time favorite novels.

My favorite quotes.

Valerious Magnus (Hunter) and Tabitha Devereaux (Human)

"What's wrong, Valerious?"she wispered, rising to stand before him.
"I'm just trying to understand why you’re with me."
"Because I like you"
"Why?"
She bit her lip seductively before she shrugged. "You're strangely amusing and you're kind."
He shook his head. " I'm not kind. I only know how to be cold."
She buried her hands in his unbound hair and let the silken strands caress her fingers.
"You don't feel cold to me, General."

Recommended song when you read the book: "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis
Recommended snacks when you read the book: Barbecue dishes and pizza

Valerious aka Val is Roman or used to be Roman, when he was human. Moreover, he used to be a very successful General ie many Greeks have died in battles because of him. AND his grandfather crucified and tortured Kyrian. As a result everyone (Greek hunters and their friends) hates him. They spit on him, they curse him, they throw dirty water on him, they laugh at him. Since he is royalty and extremely cool, he usually ignores them. Until Tabitha appears in his life and makes everyone understand what a great guy Val really is.

Tabitha is just another Buffy the vampire slayer. But she is really understanding as a true empath. And she really really likes Val.

The tragic and sad events and the funny events in this book have a great balance between them. Almost nobody of our favourite characters will be the same when the book finishes.

giving oprah - He gets immortality! She gets immortality Everyone gets immortality!!!

This is basically all you need to know about this book. photo 798186.gif (or series) photo 798186.gif.

To say I am hugely disappointed is an understatement.

So far I've noticed the books get worse and worse as the series moves along, but call me an idiot, I still decided to read them all because I am DETERMINED to get to Acheron's book.

What disappointed me here:

**spoilers ahead**

The main couple.
First you have to know that everyone hates the main guy, everyone. So, the main woman sees how they hate him and she just can't understand how someone could hate a guy who is that beautiful. photo icon_rolleyes.gif I mean it is mind-boggling! So she decides to defend his poor beautiful hide from all those horrible people who don't see his looks as they should. It's not like she needs to get to know him or something, I mean that would be ridiculous. They can have sex in every other chapter and she can only think about how he is beautiful beyond compare. photo 145995.gif

The story. Basically it is non-existent. The first half of the book we get lots of sex from the main couple and them thinking about the other one's looks. photo 79317385.gif
The second half gets a bit more dynamic, I admit, but it is done in such a ridiculous way, a "huge" battle is announced and it is settled
It's really convenient to have an all-powerful dude so you don't need to do absolutely anything and it will aaaaaallllll turn out FAB! photo kaffeetrinker_2.gif

Hooking up Simi with . Horrible. The most irritating character in the series so far. I hope nothing will come of it.

Introducing a XY woman who has no purpose that I can see in the book, but she is in love with Ash, which is ridiculous all by itself when you read why exactly she is in love with him. You wanna know: because he is soooooooo beautiful. She is sobbing and crying over him because he is so pretty. photo 753873.gif Kill yourself woman, why don't you. photo 998987.gif

The only thing I enjoyed in the book was Simi photo 279453.gif, and all her lines could be put to one page, tops. So that one page gets 5 from me, the rest minus one!!

I am pausing with this series because I really have no idea if I'll have the stomach for it, but I am so so sad because I really wanted to get to Ash!!!!!!!!!!! Not fair!!!!! photo 572585.gif

Holy crap a lot happened in this book!

ok - let me just out it out there. I don't get the hatred of Valerius. He is the GRANDSON of the SOB that tortured and killed Kyrian. He is the brother to Zared who did try to help him. Yes he failed miserably, but he was not vicious towards him, nor did he know he was his brother. Since he looks just like granddad I can see why Kyrian does not want to look at his pretty face. But the violence and hatred just seems so ridiculous.

I did not like Tabitha in earlier books and did not find her much better in this one. She annoys me. I find her crass and way too cocky. I did not like Valerius much either. He is a pompous ass. Yes he had a horrible childhood but he has had a couple thousand years to learn to be his own man. But he chose to be a snobby asshole. So I guess opposites really do attract.

I did not love the MCs. But the story was good and the action was excellent. For anyone interested in the ongoing storyline, this is a must read!

Always the odd one out Valarius (Val) finds himself on the outskirts even as a Dark-Hunter, despised by many of his fellow Greek Dark-Hunters. Tabitha Devereaux hunter of vampires and other baddies finds herself in trouble when she is drawn to her brother-in-laws enemy - Val.

Valarius and Tabitha may not be my favourite couple in this series, but I do like the two together. A nice re-read.

Simi remains a very entertaining demon.

This was an adult paranormal romance, set in New Orleans.

I felt quite sorry for Valerius in this; the things he had been through were terrible, and the way people treated him, just because of who his grandfather was, was awful. Tabitha on the other hand said whatever come into her head, and was a little irritating at times.

The storyline in this was about Tabitha and Valerius being thrown together, and Tabitha being unable to resist Valerius because he was so beautiful. There was quite a lot of tension though, with Tabitha being Amanda’s twin sister, and Valerius being the grandson of the man who tortured Amanda’s husband Kyrian.

The ending to this was okay, but this was probably my least favourite of the series so far.

This is the book that forever shatters the Dark Hunter world...

Wow the plot was Amazing...it was mix with a lot of actions and romance, and they didn't overlap each other...problems arises in just a snap yet they were solve too, it would leave your heart ache for the characters and some went crushing along, it made me cry to many times in the book and the romance squeal I'm so happy with the story so much!

"...I guess I feel like all of us misfits need to hang together. At least that way we don't swing alone."

Velerius and Tabitha are the perfect yin and yang couple, they are opposites yet they are perfect for each other. For me they are the best couple in the series...it wasn't insta lust not even instant love yet there was an attraction between them gahh call it sexual tension, with all the stolen kisses sigh I love every moment of it...They met when Tabitha was fighting the Daimons(soul sucking vampires), when Valerius tried to help her, she didn't notice that he was not one them, because of the fangs lol:) so at first they fight with words as no one wants to back down, they tend to agree to disagree but Val always surrender though, he's just sweet... tenderness and caring shows to both characters and you can't help but fall in love with them both.

"I'm an acquired taste. Most of my best friends had to know me for years before they could even stand my presence. I'm like mold, I usually grow on
you very slowly."

Tabitha(twin sister of Amanda) is such a "character". With a free spirit, she doesn't follow any rules nor listens to others, but she's one compassionate person who is ALWAYS there in times of need heck she even feed the homeless, she's always there to remind Val that someone cares for him too, she feels other people's emotions...I want to grab her from the book and give her a big cute hug:)

...she was amusing and charming in a most unexpected way...Brazen temptress, vampire slayer, complete uncouth lunatic woman that she was.

There were no boring moments when she and Val are together, humor seeps the room when Tabitha talks, oh I remember the penironi again hahaha and the Drag Queen Pageant was so endearing, those were hilarious scenes...She's even different with the other previous heroines because she already knew what the Dark hunters were.

"...you can be known as Val or Babycakes."
His gaze darkened. "My name is Valerius and I will not answer to Val."
She shrugged. "Fine then, Babycakes, have it your way."

Oh Val, I want to marry him lol, oh poo he's already taken:/
Val was introduce in the previous books as rude and mean, he wasn't famous to other dark hunters because he's Roman were most of his brothers in arms were Greeks..and that includes Julian and Kyrian who hated him with a vengeance attach to it, especially the latter since Kyrian was crucified by Val's grandfather who had the same name and looks as him.
I love his vulnerability, that behind those cold facade he is a sensitive and kind and sweet guy, it just shows in a way that you want to reach out to him a give him a pat in the back. For me Val is a strong character, his stoic demeanor on the past books was just his cold exterior because most people blame him to the sins of his ancestors and relatives. He taught me to ignore what people say, insults and all and that I should focus to those who matter to me because they deserve the love and care:_) Val is pure good man.

Unlike most Dark-Hunters, he wasn't a leather-wearing
barbarian. He was the epitome of sophistication. Breeding. Nobility.

Mr. Armani swoon...I can't say anything else about it, just sexy!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Again Ash shines his way through out the story, just love that man...its in this book were his through identity was revealed, what's his weakness and triggers him...I'm still emotional towards him whenever he got hurt:(

and then there's Nick...why why why why? may it be fate or free will or Ash's curse that led him to do such horrible thing, I don't know, as Acheron always say Emotions don't have brain. maybe that's what led him but still it was irrevocable and I want to change the past in order for him not to do it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This book is one of the best in the series, the Author made a turning point and it was fantastic how everything change..love love love..I'm going to read it again soon:)

"Life is serious."
"No, Life is an adventure. It's thrilling and
scary. Sometimes it's even a bit boring, but it should never be serious."

These are the books in the series that made me bawling in tears:
Acheron
Dance with the Devil
Devil May Cry
Seize the Night
some short stories:
Fear the Darkness
A Dark-Hunter Christmas
Second Chances
Enjoy!:)

Vaya!

I have read every book in the Dark-Hunter series and prior to reading "Seize the Night", my favorite story was Zarek's in "Dance With The Devil". I thought no one could be more tortured than poor Zarek. Wrong!

I was captivated by Valerius almost immediately! Gone were the black leather pants and the gothic/punk attire replaced by turtlenecks, slacks and style. Wow! What a breath of fresh air! Not saying I mind a hot bod clad in tight leather but...it was a nice change. *grin

This man was sooo sensitive. Sensitive without being wimpy, mind you. I just wanted to cuddle him. And he was such a gentleman, in my opinion. I was pissed at how he was treated by everyone around him, including his fellow Dark-Hunters. However, I was very impressed by the fact that Artemis didn't bestow any extra powers on her Roman Dark-Hunters. That pretty much told me that Valerius was one bad mo-fo to have fought off Daimons for centuries using only his strength and skill. What a man!

What infuriated me, yet managed to touch me was the fact that Valerius never stood up for himself. He silently took all that was dished out to him without raising his voice or a hand in his own defense. And when I read about his upbringing at the hands of his cruel father...man, I broke down and cried like a baby. *sniffle

Tabitha was also a very likeable heroine. In fact, she is my favorite so far. Very down-to-earth with quite a few eccentricites, she was my kinda gal.

Darker than most of the other books in this series, I'd have to say hands-down, this was by far the best!

Valerius. I’ve been hearing mention of this name since book one in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series. Valerius is portrayed as a heartless and cruel Roman bastard in the earlier books. He is described that way before we even get to really meet him. But in Seize the Night, he has a chance to shine. Since this is his book, he has the opportunity to completely redeem himself. And he does. He really does. By the end of this book, I was totally in love with Valerius. And Tabitha and Valerius have become my new favorite DH couple.

Valerius is a Roman General. He is used to being pretty much alone since everyone either misunderstands him or blames him for the actions of his family over two thousand years ago. (Yes, these Dark-Hunters tend to hold grudges for a long long time) So being alone means he’s not used to answering to anyone. He is very particular about what he likes. Let me put it this way: He pretty much has a stick up his bum. All the time. Oh, and he is Kyrian’s number one enemy, the hero from book one.

Tabitha is a free spirit. One of 9 sisters, she is used to saying what is on her mind, mostly filter free, in order to have herself be heard. Tabby is Amanda’s twin sister, the heroine from book one. You can see how this couple may seemed doomed from the get go. She is everything Valerius is not and her brother-in-law is Val’s mortal enemy. But after accidentally stabbing Valerius and bringing her home to tend to him, Tabitha is drawn to him…and him to her. I love how their relationship plays out. We have known Tabby since book one and she is a recurring character in some of the previous books. In other books, she is portrayed almost as flighty and short tempered. But in reality, she is a caring friend and sister, very compassionate and overall just someone who fights to protect human kind. There is so much more to her than I first assumed. And how she brings out just a bit of tenderness from Valerius…it’s perfect. I really like how Sherrilyn didn’t go overboard with this. How Tabitha didn’t make Val completely change. Through the book, she is still she and he is still he…just enhanced. Brought a little more to life.

Let’s talk about one of my favorite characters in this series, Acheron. Ash appears in each and every book and in each and every book, he becomes a little more of a mystery. Well, and get ready for this, in Seize the Night he becomes…even more of a mystery. You are left thinking “Whoa…blue?…fire spitting?…lightning bolts?…immortal-er?” I guess we really do have to wait for his book to finally get some answers. *sigh*

And Nick! Whoa again! There is a little side plot that comes pretty much out of nowhere but that you can tell will play a significant role in future installments. This little development were Nick is concerned makes you think “OMG…Nick?…A what?…And…whoa!” I can’t wait to see where his new adventure takes him.

I am loving this series. I mean really really loving it. (I know I’m one of the last people on the planet to read these…let’s not talk about that.) I am finding myself being pulled into this fabulous world that Sherrilyn Kenyon has created more and more and although I’ve met many already, I can’t wait to fully get to know the characters in the following books. And Ash?… I’m starting to think the ‘mystery of Ash’ will soon be on par with the ‘mystery of Barrons’. Seize the Night reminded me how much I enjoy everything about these Dark Hunter books…and it has made me want more. Thank goodness there are still 13 books left for me to read before I’m caught up to the series. And Sherrilyn is still writing it! That is an epic win.

3 ROMANCE STARS

Everyone hates Valerius. Mainly because he was a Roman general who was born in 152 B.C., and most of the Dark-Hunters seem to be Greek. Especially those of them who live in New Orleans. Not to mention that Valerius's noble family was full of horrible people. His dad raped and murdered, and tortured countless people (he even tortured his own sons regularly), Valerius's brothers are angry, vicious psychopaths who also grow up to be rapist/murdering torturers. Valerius's grandfather tortured Kyrian (the Dark-Hunter) to death and also had sex with Kyrian's wife in front of Kyrian while Kyrian was being tortured. And Kyrian lives in New Orleans now.

So. Bad family history and a really bad city to be living in for Valerius.

ANYWAY. Valerius not only was tortured by his father when he was a child, but now in his undead existence everyone hates him and avoids him. He is mocked and spat on wherever he goes, hated for his ancestry rather than who he is a person.

That's our hero.

....

Our heroine is Tabitha Devereaux, a human vampire-slayer. She is beautiful but has a long scar on one side of her face from an angry demon she fought.

Tabitha is a very brash, aggressive, and crass person - the complete opposite of the refined, stoic, regal Roman general Valerius. For instance, she runs a sex-toy shop for a living, says whatever is on her mind no matter how hurtful or inappropriate it might be, and dances naked to Elvis songs.

She seems outwardly as if she fears nothing, but after being broken up with by her last boyfriend because "she was draining and exhausting to be around," she is doubting herself a little bit in the romance department.
...

Our meet-cute? Tabitha gets in a fight with a dozen demons. When Valerius jumps in to help her fight, she mistakes him for a demon and stabs him.

Luckily for him he's immortal.

He wakes up to find himself naked in her bed, with a transvestite watching over him.

This is indicative of the dynamic of the whole book. You know, Valerius wants Italian food - Tabitha ends up cooking him pasta shaped like little penises (penii?).

Sometimes I really feel like Kenyon is pushing this opposite thing too far.
...

But on the other hand, I found myself liking both protagonists, in Tabitha's case almost against my will. Valerius, although very standoffish, proper, cold, dignified and uptight - has a kind heart and also he is damaged by his past in a way that he's still suffering today. This made me very protective of him and I really liked him.

Tabitha was more difficult for me to like. She really annoyed me with her no-filters, no-holds barred way of communicating, her willingness to just stab people first and ask questions later, and her overall brash, aggressive personality.

To Kenyon's credit I did end up liking Tabitha at least some of the time. Like when she stands up for Valerius many times, and when she admits how vulnerable she is romantically after the blow of her ex leaving her. She's also a little self-conscious about her facial scar, which she thinks repulses men. These things endeared her to me even if her overall personality did not.

...

Both protagonists mess up BIG and piss me off in their relations with each other. Tabitha goes first. She and Valerius have some lovely kissing. Yay! Then about 5 minutes later, after a phone call to her sister, she unleashes this on him:

She rolled her eyes at him. "You must be really fun in bed," she said sarcastically.

Valerius was stunned by her words. "Excuse me?"

"I'm just wondering what it would be like to make love to a man who is so concerned about being rigid - then again... Nah. I can't imagine someone so regal getting down and dirty with it."

"I assure you, I've never had any complaints in that regard."

"Really? Then you must be sleeping with women who are so cold you could freeze ice cubes on them."

Excuse me, lady, you were JUST straddling this guy and making out with him. FIVE MINUTES AGO. Did you forget about that?!?!!? Also, you were enjoying it - A LOT! So what is with the "let's shred Valerius to ribbons" fest? Hmmmm? She just seemed really cruel in this scene and especially nonsensical since she was just moaning and writhing on his lap. And forget about the kissing, even if he was someone she had no sexual interest in, this is a very mean thing to say to a man. Something you'd only say to deliberately cause pain. I was really angry with her for this.

BUT, in case you start feeling like Valerius deserves better than this, we have this scene, where Valerius and Tabitha are getting into a pretty intense make-out session. Things are getting pretty exciting and fun, when Valerius blurts out:

"Do you sleep with all the Dark-Hunters?"

She stiffened. "What?"

"I was just wondering if you'd been with Acheron... Talon."

She bucked him off her at that. "What kind of question is that?"

"I just met you and twice now you've offered yourself to me."

Wow, ouch, I'm cringing. I cannot believe any man could possibly be this stupid, especially not one who's about 2,000 years old!!!! I mean, if he was deliberately trying to hurt her deeply, this would be the way to go, but Kenyon plays it off as him just not knowing any better. I would have completely understood if Tabitha had done worse to him then beat him with a pillow and storming out (which is what she DOES do). What a horrible thing to say to her! Just casually accuse the woman who's making out with you in bed of being the town bike. That's sure to win her over! <--- sarcasm

...

So, I have to ignore these two scenes AND I have to ignore the ridiculous situations Kenyon puts these characters in to emphasize their differences. And that's not good. Even though both the protagonists are sweeties and I guess deep down I am cheering for them, there's a little too much to wade through to get there.

...

Another thing about the book that bears mentioning is that a good 40% of it is just Kenyon world-building and mythos-building. Huge fans of the series probably find this amazing, but I find it boring. I WANT A LOVE STORY. I want love, and kissing, and falling in love... and kissing. I don't want a history of all the wars of the gods or a breakdown on exactly what it means to a demon, or whatever. Blergh. I like the fight scenes, but a lot of this book is exposition. I was bored by this.

This is going to get even worse in her later books. You are warned.
...

Lastly, the ending. It's beyond ridiculous.

...

Side Notes:

1.) At one point, Valerius has doused her breasts in salted garlic butter. I was like, "Really!?!?" This seemed strange to me, but I think it was supposed to be sexy.

2.) This sentence: A bright orange engulfed Urian an instant before he flashed out of her kitchen.

Don't you mean a bright orange LIGHT or a bright orange FLASH or a bright orange MIST or something? I doubt a bright fruit engulfed him.

3.) Kyrian is a whiny, pathetic, weak-ass excuse for a man in this novel and I wanted to yell at him.

4.)

5.) Kenyon has a real partiality to making the main couple have sex when the woman is completely naked and the man is (almost) completely clothed - just conveniently unzipped. This is my 11th book by her, and she put it in almost every book. Just an interesting note.

“Life is serious.”
“No, life is an adventure. It's thrilling and scary. Sometimes it's even a bit boring, but it should never be serious.”

OMG!! 6 shining stars!!! I freaking loved this book and can’t believe everything that happened! My mind is still reeling.

I love Tabitha… LOVE her! We have seen her a few times throughout the series so far, and when I realised that she was going to be matched with Valerius… OH YEAH!!! Valerius refers to her as a “brazen temptress, vampire slayer, complete uncouth lunatic woman … who should, by all reason, repel him and yet completely captivated and beguiled him.” And that’s just the beginning! She is an absolute free spirit who knows what she wants and is not afraid to take it – and to hell with what anybody else thinks (this makes for some sensational verbal sparring).

Valerius (or ‘Val’) was a wonderful hero. Again, we had seen him in earlier books, but always as the standoffish Dark Hunter whose family was responsible for Kyrian’s torture and death. In the last book, Kiss of the Night, we started to see a new side to him and, truth be told, that’s when I started to fall for him a little. As we got to know him more in this book, I absolutely fell in love. Another poor, tortured soul, he has resigned himself to the fact that everybody in his world hates him because of his family and where he comes from.

The two of them together are absolute dynamite! They meet when Tabby accidentally stabs Val while fighting Daimons, and he wakes up naked in her bed *snicker* - yeah, really! The chemistry is intense from the beginning, and it doesn’t take long for these two total opposites to get under each other’s skin. It was fun to watch Tabby draw out the real Val, and there are some absolutely gorgeous moments as she helps him realise that he is not alone and that he is actually a good man. There is a bit of a ‘you and me against the world’ feeling as the two of them fall in love despite all that is against them, and I loved that they didn’t fight it, but just went with it. And he even calls her ‘My Lady’ *swoon*!

Acheron shines again. What I loved most about him in this book was, again, seeing the love he has for his friends. He is fiercely protective of each of them, and was the one who came to Val and Tabby’s defence when everybody was giving them shit about being together. I wanted to stand up and applaud. His friendship with Tabby is gorgeous, and I just love when she watches him at the start of the book and thinks to herself... "there was something about Ash that made every hormone in her body stand up and pant for more". You and me both sister! We get a bit of a glimpse into his private world this time around, but the question still needs to be asked – What the hell is he???

And then there’s Nick. OMG Nick!!! I can’t even say anything about Nick, just OH.MY.GOD!!!

The HEA is absolutely satisfying as a number of loose ends are all tied up in a pretty little bow.

I am absolutely in love with this series and need to send out a huge shout out to my GR friends who encouraged me to start it. Thank you!!

Zarek is still my all time fave... but i do now have a softie for Valerius... I am puzzled how all the Dark hunters seem to all be falling in love with this family and group of women though....

Reading this Roman solider it makes me feel sad for how he was bullied all his life and how he was still getting isolated by his brethren, the Author pulls so many emotions from the reader with each character she writes.

And Acheron can make immortals (I have an Inkling who he may be now, but not the story behind it... itching to get to his book!!!!!

1000/5 estrellas

No puedes quedarte a mi lado. Acabaré por destruirte a ti también. Lo sé."

Meh... Tabitha just didn't grow on me. Neither did Valarius. I guess if opposites attract, they are perfect for each other. She's a self-proclaimed badass who owns a sex shop and acts like an overgrown rebellious teenager. He's Mr Prim and Proper who doesn't even own a pair of jeans. See? Perfect for each other.

Their romance starts with her stabbing him because she's decided she's a vampire hunter and he just happened to come along while she was stabbing vampires. She realizes he is a Dark Hunter and takes him home to nurse him back to health, where Ash finds him.

"Relax," Acheron said with a yawn. "You're in good hands. Tabby won't hurt you."

"She stabbed me!"

"Damn," Ash said. "I told her not to stab any more Hunters. I hate it when she does that.....You're the third Dark Hunter she's nailed so far. She kind of gets a little carried away sometimes."

actually, it's Tabby, but that works too...

As Tabitha gets to know Valarius, she starts to feel sorry for him because nobody likes him. He's a Roman in a sea of Greeks.

Sheesh, your people crucify a few people and suddenly you're the bad guy!

So, Tabitha realizes that nobody likes Valarius and becomes his champion. She freaks out on Otto for calling him Count Penicula, and yet she got mad at Valarius for not wanting to eat beefaroni out of a can and served him penis-shaped pasta as revenge.

Shut up and eat your penises!

Their love story was boring and stupid. It's just impossible to care about two unlikable people.

I do not like them Sam I am.

But, I admit that I liked Valarius more than Stabby Tabby. He at least had a reason for being a boring fuck. She had no excuse for never maturing past the age of her shoe size.

The only saving part of this book was all of the glimpses into Acheron. I can't wait for his story. Also, the Nick thing. That was pretty crazy.

All in all, a snooze-fest...

I loved Dance with the Devil!!
Let's see how this turns out.

I am such a mess. I've been thinking about going to the bookstore and buying this book for a few days now. What do you know, past-me already knew this day was about to come: i just saw this sitting on my bookshelf today. I don't even now for how many months it's been sitting there. And it's not even the first something like this happened to me. What's wrong with me?!

I absolutely love the world of the dark hunters, I love the idea, the recurring characters (you see people after they got their happy endings), I basically love the books. So it was no surprise that I own all of them, the minute I finished Night Play, I ran out and bought this. And I was glad I did, I really liked Night Play, but I loved this one and it has to be my favorite out of the whole series so far.

Seize the Night is about Tabitha (the crazy twin sister of Amanda that we hear so much about) and Valerius (Kyrian’s worst enemy, the grandson of the man that crucified him. Let it go, Valerius was what 6?). Well these two meet and you have your average Dark Hunter plot, which surprisingly I am not getting sick of, the plot: Dark Hunter meets human woman, they fall in love, she helps him get over the demons from his past in return they get married and live a normal life. Yep, the story is basically along that line, twists and turns of course.

I really liked this plot, there were some interesting things that happened. Plus I think the fact that Tabitha already knew about Daimons and Dark Hunters and could kick some major ass helped. The author did not spend like 20 pages describing the world (that we already knew about) to this new human being.

I liked both the characters and they are probably my favorite couple out of the whole series. They are just so crazy and together there is some real magic! I could go on forever about the characters so I will describe each of them in a sentence. Tabitha: Awesome Daimon slayer with super powers, also crazy and nice, offends peoples easily but they forgive her, loves oysters. Valerius: Sweet, everyone treats him like he is Lucifer incarnerated (thanks to Kyrian and the fact that he is Roman and the fact that he has a stick up his ass). That is them in a sentence.

The writing always captivated me, probably why I like the all her books; the writing always keeps me interested.

My favorite out of the series, I loved this one the most! The characters, the plot, the writing, all came together amazingly!

Glad I read this one, unlike some of her past ones, this one was a real hit and I loved, loved, loved it! Can I say that enough?

Seize the Night is the Dark-Hunter story of Valerius and Tabitha.

I always check out the excerpt before reading a book. When I realized this story would be of Valerius and Tabitha, I was somewhat bummed. I honestly didn't care for either character. It's always nice to look forward and say YES! when you are about to read a book you've been waiting for. This book didn't give me that feeling.

Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised. Valerius and Tabitha are perfect for each other. I appreciate their character progression and relationship almost as much as Vane and Bride's.

Valerius had a brutal childhood. Brother to Zarek, and son to the man who tortured and crucified Kyrian, his life isn't any easier. Zarek, now a god, continues to sporadically shoot Valerius with bolts before surrounding him with antarctic cold. All of the Dark-Hunters, especially Kyrian and Julian, despise Valerius so that he is more alone now than he was when mortal.

Everything changed...When Tabitha stabbed him.

"You are worthless. I weep for the day Mother bore you into this world. I'm only glad that she died before she could see what an embarrassment you are to the family."

Tabitha is the resident vampire hunter of New Orleans. Hunting Daimons in order to protect the humans she holds dear, she lives an interesting life than tends to alienate her. No one takes her seriously. Except of course, the Daimons.

Surviving a vicious attack by Desiderius, she was left with a harsh scar on her cheek. Running herself into he ground, she is exhausted but refuses to give in to the fear that is constantly beating at her.

Mistaking Valerius for a Daimon or a lawyer, she accidentally stabs him. And who says pain isn't romantic? :)

"Don't worry, Otto," she said with a smile. "I'm an acquired taste. Most of my best friends had to know me for years before they could even stand my presence. I'm like mold, I usually grow on you very slowly."

"You didn't have to say that, Amanda. You know, I'm really tired of being the brunt of the family jokes. I've never understood why I'm the weird, crazy one when Tia dances naked out in the bayous in voodoo ceremonies; Selena chains herself to fences; Karma is a bull inseminator; Aunt Jasmine is trying to splice a Venus flytrap with kudzu to make a man-killing plant to devour her ex-"

Opposites attract. Valerius is a stick in the mud. Tabitha is a goth babe on steroids. Patrolling the streets for Daimons, running from a scary ghost that leaves chills running along her skin, and submitting to the explosive and delicious passion between each other, Tabitha and Valerius will leave you smiling.

This is an excellent book. It is most definitely in my top 5 favorites in this series.

I recommend this book to any mature adult in need of a fun-filled experience into fantasy and desire. Moderate to hello there baby violence and sexual content. This book is not to be read by immature adults or children.

Lines of the book:

"Something wicked this way comes..."

"I figure all of us misfits should hang together, that way we don't swing alone..."
