Easy as pie, right?

So when I enter us in a wife carrying contest to beat his cheating ex all bets are off. Running through the woods with my legs wrapped around his muscular body has me thinking this marriage of convenience is anything but.

What happens when our year is up? What if I ask him Wood You Marry Me, for real?

“Thank you,” she said into my shirt as the song ended. “For marrying me.”
I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, I love small-town romance, and both the fake relationship and best friend’s sister tropes are two of my favorites.
On the other hand, I needed more romance. So this is a 3.5 for me.

”His body was impressive, sure, but not as impressive as his heart.”
I mostly loved Remy. He does have a great body, but his heart is huge, and he loves with everything he has. He’s been through a lot with his ex-fiancé and an accident that he caused (it’s also in the previous book in the series), and he’s ready to get his life back in gear. I only wish he would tone down his self-deprecation and stand up for himself.

”When I was with her, I didn’t feel alone.”
Hazel is a strong FMC. She and her brother had a rough childhood, but she picked herself up and got an Ivy League education. She’s working toward her PhD now, and she’s impressive. She’s strong and knows exactly what she wants and how to get it. What she doesn’t have, unfortunately, is a lot of money. And she has a health issue.

“Jesus, Remy. Are you flexing right now? How many goddamn abs do you have?”
Hazel’s back in her hometown to work while she does some research for her PhD. She runs into Remy, her childhood crush and one of her best friends, and it’s easy to see how well these two get along. She needs surgery and doesn’t have insurance; he needs a wife for PR reasons as a lumberjack athlete.
The solution is simple—what if they got married?

“We’re a team,” I whispered. She smiled up at me. “Two underdogs. In it together.”
They agree that this is platonic—they’re friends after all. But after a while, it doesn’t sound like that at all. She stands up for him, and he jumps through hoops to get her everything she wants.

It should be the stuff of fake relationship dreams, but it’s not because we’re told and not shown.

One of my favorite things about this trope is the tension: the will-they-won’t-they, the small touches, the awkward stares, the lusting after, the sleeping-in-one-bed situation… but I didn’t get enough of that.
Like I said, we’re told, not shown, that they’re getting closer.

”I wanted to let him in. Because, deep down, he was the only one I had ever wanted.”
Both of them need to work through some things. She needs to open up more, but it’s not easy because of the way she grew up. He needs to stop thinking of himself as a fuck-up—and, when it comes to this, I feel like that side was overexploited. It’s almost a one-man pity party at times.

There’s a sort of mystery that comes from the previous book that has to do with his dad. There’s an attempt to introduce the next characters in this series. There’s a lot of talk about food and their complete inability to cook. And there’s Clive, the moose.

And I feel like all these things get in the way of what I was really looking for—the romance between them. Up to a point where Remy gets a family heirloom to give Hazel, a symbolic one at that, and it happens off-page. It made no sense to me.

“I’m sick of your caveman shit. You want to fuck me? Do it. Show me what it means to be yours.”
I liked that he’s more in touch with his feelings than she is, or at least he admits it more freely. And when they finally get there, I wanted it to be steamier—we do have to wait quite a bit for something to happen, and I’m used to more steam from Daphne, so I was disappointed with that.

I also don’t get why certain things were introduced, such as the wife-carrying competition and his lumberjack competition, when we have no idea how those turn out, and especially since a lot of the book has them planning and training for it. And we really have no idea where their relationship is going: will she be staying in their small town once she gets her PhD? It’s implied that it doesn’t matter as long as they’re together, but it mattered to me.

”All that mattered was that I’d found her. She’d found me.”
I did like the sweetness that comes from two people who have known each other all their lives. The familiarity of it all. These two were clearly meant to be, and that was undeniable. I just wanted more from both of them and their story.

Idk how I feel about this book I enjoyed it but idk there was something miss for me.

Hazel has always had a crush on her brothers best friend and he never saw her in that light only a little sister since he was head over heels obessed over some other woman in there younger days. She moved on from her crush did so many things and is getting her PHD and moved back home. She runs into Remy and its a cute moment he is getting over the heartbreak his ex left him. But is glad Hazel is back. They meet again when Hazel has health problems and needs to have surgery so best thing he can think of get married.

He has to get in shape and focus on lumberjack games? But his ex is there with her new guy so this help him focus on competition and not the hurt.
Which I was glad he started to fall more and more in love with Hazel I just hated how they joked about his next wife.
I also wish we saw more of these lumberjack stuff.. we saw him training with her and we didn't even get to see it.. that was such a disappointment.

Beside that we get that mystery from book 1 and still don't know in this book about drugs and his father notes.

“I know you’re scared. It’s fine. I’ll be brave for both of us. Hazel, my friend, my wife, the person who makes me want to be better every day of my damn life. I love you.”

These are some of my favourite tropes that are included in this book. The book had lots of "my wife" moments that made me swoon. Remy & Hazel were a perfect match. She made him realise his worth and he lifted up her confidence and took care of her the way no one truly ever had before. The friendship between these two had always been there ever since they were kids but when they started living together, it slowly blossomed into something more, something they swore would never happen between them. Overall, it was a delightful drama free read. The side characters were good too and I am curious about Adele's story.

First of all i love the little sneek peak vibe in the first chapter. It's like you just put on a movie and see things happening and it ends at a point where you are like "What's going on??" And then It's like "One week earlier" and then you have to find out What's going on. I loved that, it really had my hooked from the beginning.

Second of all, how can you not love a fake marriage? Like hello fake marriage. I love when the line between fake and real starts to fade and the characthers start to realize that. I mean who doesn't love that? Fake dating, fake marriage,...

And thirth how can you not fall in love with Remy and Hazel?? They are just perfect in the way that you can relate to them and get frustrated with them and fall in love with them and you just will feel all the emotions.

Tho this book gives my purple hearts vibes, like the movie AND I LOVE THAT MOVIE So it wasn't hard to love this book. So if you have watched that movie go read this book.

"Thank you, for marrying me," my heart, its broken in a millions pieces and glued togheter. I hope the glue sticks tho.

This book aaah i didn't expect to love it this much!! Im so gratefull i got to read the ARC!!

To say I’m obsessed would be an actual understatement…this series has me enamored! I’m in love and so invested it’s not even funny.

Tropes:

• marriage of convenience

• brothers best friend

• she fell first (but he fell so much harder)😩😭

• possessive hero (he says swoony shit like “You’re my wife” like are you kidding me🥵)

• wife carrying competition (I’ve never read or heard of it…now I need more of it, legit obsessed)

• no third-act breakup (I love you, author)

• Clive. 🤷🏼‍♀️😭 (that moose is something else, he had me cackling in the first book and this one too)

• a little suspense added in! (Didn’t expect it, had me holding my breath when it happened, it was executed so well and was perfectly crafted into the story, and made it that much better!)

Wow.

Just absolutely wow.

I adored this book😭 it had me hooked from the first sentence, the pacing was perfect and the characters were so easy to love and get completely immersed in. Remy and Hazel were so cute together.

The book kinda starts with her throwing a blueberry pie at our man’s face 🫠 like a “Whoops my bad” type moment (it was completely on accident, lmao) the scene had me cackling.

And a week later they get hitched…yep🤷🏼‍♀️ the why is because she has a health thing and needs insurance, she doesn’t have any but her brother's best friend has VERY good insurance…so they have a marriage of convenience agreement.

One year. Help each other out. And then get divorced.

But surprise, surprise 😏 things are a little difficult when they live together, have to train together for a wife-carrying competition…and just have such heated chemistry that it’s impossible to ignore it.

This was *chefs kiss* the Author held their first kiss and any intimate moments until a little later into the book (pretty sure it was until 50-60% in) I loved it like that because it gave us time to see the characters individually, watch them interact with each other, and see those angst, tension-filled moments, which were just so damn yummy.

I squealed seeing my babies from the first, book, 🥺 Henri and Alice!! Ugh, I love them.

I’m so intrigued by so many potential love stories we may get with other characters in this book😩 like I’m dying here…I have zero clue why but Adele and Finn🫢👀 kinda dig it (though I romanticize anything so I could be so wrong lmao, they like said two words to each other aha)

I mean it when I say to go read this! I adored it, the connection between the two! The communication, the angst, the built-up tension until both snapped and kissed! Ugh SO GOOD!

I don’t even wanna go to into detail about my obsession with this book because it’s so good to just go in blind!! I ain’t kidding GO AND READ IT! That’s an order bestie, go and preorder this. It’s coming out in about two weeks,

Here are some questions some may need answers to before reading this (some things in books can ruin it for me! So this is just to help some people out a lil)

• is there any cheating? - Absolutely NOT! Zero cheating, kissing, or flirting with anyone. (Though there’s mention of cheating from his side, he got cheated on by his ex-fiancé, she’s only in one scene and I ended up loving it cus we see Remi and Hazel all close together😏)

• OWD/OMD? - no! ( Thank God for that, I hate those tropes so much! Especially OWD) I should point out

• standalone? - Yes you can read this as a standalone! But I recommend reading the first book, ( Remi’s brothers story, it’s amazing as well and so many funny moments as well as sweet and 🥵 moments)

• third act breakup? - no! There isn’t at all, such a refreshing thing when this isn’t in a book!

• is it worth the read? - HELL TO THE YES! I’m IN LOVE with these two, please, please, please go and read this when it comes out! You genuinely won’t regret it, I like cried when I finished it because it was that good.

I love the blurb and the title. This is truly a romance book. There are so many swoonworthy lines. The setting and the characters are realistic. It feels as if you're in Lovewell, peeping through their window. It's a very good and heartwarming story. It's a beautiful book to exist in this world.

I'm not American, and my country doesn't have timber sports, so I'm a little clueless as to what Remy actually does, but I was pulled in by the author's writing. Both characters have cool professions. They unconditionally support each other's careers without thinking about societal gender roles, and that's admirable. I didn't know Maine was an actual US state; I'd never heard of it in movies or books. I'd like to visit it sometime.

The dual POV makes it better. You'll see the beginning of the characters liking each other, the hesitation to take the next step, them lusting after each other, swooning over their partner's appearance, breaking down and confessing their love, and how their world stops when the other is in pain.

Remy grew on me with his possessiveness and swoony lines. I like how respectful he remains even in his thoughts despite his mind straying towards her looks. I like his views on the contrasting personalities of Crystal and Hazel. Also, isn't Crystal the ultimate mean girl's name?

I like Hazel's thoughts on working towards a good degree and job before indulging in self-care, because that truly is the case for many poor women. Her analytical mind had me going "get it, girl" so many times. I like the initial contrast between a strong female and a moping, weak male character. Reading about Remy from her POV makes me imagine a sweaty hunk like Can Yaman.

I knew Clive was gonna interrupt their skinny dipping! He wins the award for best supporting male character (2023).

This book reinforces the idea that men like women who are busy pursuing important things and that they feel important when a woman tells them that she needs them. It's not wrong or demeaning for your man to do some things for you. Remember, you're looking for a life partner and not conducting an experiment on how many boxes of wokeness you can check off during a single relationship.

The plot requires it to be a slow-burn. I like the moments with his family, her brother's overprotective nature, the scenes with Clive, the sixty-five times he calls her "my wife," and the scene where he revels in her expressing out loud how hot he is and that he should go sleeveless to gain more followers on social media. It's fun to read a marriage of convenience trope where they both think about life after their divorce, but as seasoned readers, we know that's never gonna happen. Their final adventure is an adrenaline rush. My heart was beating very fast, and I was so scared for them.

I'm full of love after reading the acknowledgements section. The author truly leads a blessed life. I haven't read the previous book in this series, but I enjoyed this standalone read. I'm excited to read more of the author's work.

I received an e-ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Pssssst...yes YOU!!

Do you love wood chopping, axe throwing, tree climbing, plaid wearing lumbersnacks...oops sorry lumberjacks?

If your answer is yes then read on ⬇️

When I tell you I can't get enough of Lovewell, I'm not joking. I'm obsessed!! I am so in love and invested in this small town its not even funny

This is a true romance story. It's swoonworthy, the setting and the characters are so realistic and its heartwarming

This may have started out as a fake marriage but let me tell you there was nothing fake about Remy and Hazel's growing attraction to each other. Funny, touching, sexy and intimate it was so hard for me to put it down and adult. Throw in the element of danger and this book, and the series so far, really is the whole package

If you're in your small town era and you love brothers best friends, WHERE. IS. MY. WIFE vibes, sexual tension, possessive lumbersnacks, NO third act break up then you known what to do on 20th April

4.5 stars!

I love a good marriage of convenience, and this book kicks it up a notch. Hazel Markey is not only in a marriage in convenience with Remy Gagnon, but Remy happens to be her brother's best friend and also her own friend from childhood. I adore them both so much, and watching them go from friends to more is just delicious. Remy is so protective, and there are so many good "my wife" moments. Not to mention a few cameos from a sassy moose to add a little extra chaos.

"𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸, 𝘮𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘧𝘦, 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦."

We get romance, a little suspense, some axe swinging, and, considering we're in Maine, a whole lotta heat! I love the Lovewell, Maine crew, and I cannot wait for the next installment! Lumbersnacks may very well be my new obsession!

Sigh….I really need a lumberjack on my life…especially when one who is as kind and thoughtful as he is brawny! Wood You Marry Me is about a fake marriage; but there is nothing fake about the growing and changing feelings of Remy and Hazel!! There were scenes that were so funny that I laugh-cried! There were scenes that were so incredibly touching that I swooned. There were scenes that were sexy and intimate, there were scenes that were fraught with danger and fear, and my heart felt it all! Hazel and Remy are incredible characters; she was feisty and smart and loyal; he was both gentle and strong, devoted and protective. They had both gone through stuff that affected everything they said or felt or did, and being with them as they moved on from it all together was a gift. This book is romantic and funny and passionate, but it also delves into the world of addiction and the opioid crisis and its impact on families and communities. I loved every word and every feeling, and didn’t want it to end!

Remy Gagnon was the figure in all of Hazels fantasies when she was younger, but off limits because he was her big brothers best friend. Now, years later she is back in town to conduct research to finish her PhD and after accidentally throwing pie in Remys face and a health scare she is listening to Dylan tell her and Remy that a marriage of convenience would get them both what they want. Remy is the youngest Gagnon sibling and after a trauma and break up he becomes the ‘fuck up’ of the family. Given a chance to get back into training for some wood sports to push his career choice he finds himself needing a wife to land some sponsors. When Hazel gets sick and Dylan suggests marrying her for Health insurance, protective Remy comes out and he knows he needs to convince Hazel to do this - but he does so more for her than his situation. Hes was selfless.

The marriage works great in getting them both what they want but what happens when lines blur and feelings get more intense? From the start they were a team, each giving the other the drive, push and support they needed. It never really felt forced, these two have a deep connection from growing up closely together and it actually feels like the right time for them both. I loved how protective Remy was, how hard he fell and couldnt fight it. He stepped into the husband role and took it very seriously. Hazel was a great match for Remy, she had his back at every opportunity - whether it was against his own feelings or his siblings. She used her skills to further him and his training. She was a clever little thing!! Wrapping her thighs around his head goes from being training to temptation that neither can fight, even Clive the moose couldnt hold them back any more.

Filled with steam, banter, humour and suspense this was a fun read. But also emotional too. Remy was my favourite with his “my wife” / you’re mine attitude. Building her a bookcase, damn boy. He becomes everyones lumber jack fantasy. This was a first for me from Daphne but ill def read the rest of the Lovewell Lumberjacks series.

“I can’t control myself around you. You are mine. And I want every asshole in this bar to know it.” “I’m wearing your wedding ring. Isn’t that enough?”
“No. It’s not good enough for me. I want all of you, Hazel. And it’s eating me up inside. I want to touch you and possess you and have all of you.”

I may have accidentally on purpose fell in love with Remy Gagnon. You know how people talk about their book boyfriend to end all other book boyfriends? Well he’s officially mine. I don’t think anyone else is going to be able to top him!

I love the way he was dominant in the bedroom and outside of it he supported Hazel wholeheartedly in everything and wanted her to have the world. I love that even though they were fake married the support they showed each other was very real and very married like.

Remy reminded me a lot of my husband in the way he would do absolutely anything for Hazel. He just wanted her to be taken care of. I loved watched Hazel break down the walls she build to let him in and soak in the love and care he gave her 🥰

Overall this book was so wholesome, romantic and cute! Not to mention the smut was soooo good! Plus getting more pieces of this mystery puzzle is so fun! That storyline really adds so much to these books.

I have mixed emotions regarding this book. I approached it as a standalone, but it is the second book in a series, so I may have missed out on some important details from the first book. However, the author assured readers that it could be enjoyed independently.

it was well edited. The story was lacking a lot of things for me. If I pick this a part it is the lack of true romance, of chemistry and connection. It is also the ending. It feels incomplete.

I LOVED THIS BOOK. I loved reading about both characters kind of work through each of their road blocks. Remy with feeling like he isn't good enough after his failed relationship and after the accident with his brother. He wants to go pro in lumberjacking ( I'm sure there is a formal term but that is what I am calling it). However, he does't think he is good enough.

Hazel needs to have her gallbladder removed... but she is trying to finish her PHD and doesn't have insurance... so when she comes back to town to finish her research and after one of her Gallbladder attacks he jokes that her and Remy should get married... Remy is immediately on board but Hazel is hesitant. After some convincing they get married at the court house and agree on a one year marriage to help each other out.

Neither is expecting to really fall for the other, but man when Remy bust out the "you're my wife" 😍

This book was swoony and funny and such a great read!

Tropes: 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆, 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒕, 𝒃𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓’𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅, 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒄𝒆𝒅 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒙𝒊𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒚, 𝒔𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒃𝒖𝒓𝒏, 𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒔

Ahh, Remy 😍 This book is the second in the series and can be read as a standalone. Remy has had a tough time - his long time girlfriend cheated on him and he spiraled from there. He struggled with drinking and poor decisions at his family’s lumberjack business. This occurs in the first book that features his brother, Henri. In this book, Remy is trying to be better, do better, and fix his mistakes. So when his best friend’s sister needs health insurance for surgery, he doesn’t hesitate to offer help…by marrying her.

Hazel hasn’t had an easy life but the support she had from her brother and Remy’s family made the difference. Her mother was an addict and Hazel grew up poor along with her brother. She’s strong and determined to make a better life for herself.

“𝑰 𝒎𝒂𝒚 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒂 𝒑𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒚𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇.“

Their relationship begins platonic and as friends until they start to notice each other in new ways. I really love all the “my wife”-ing by Remy 😮‍💨 He takes such good care of her after she has her gallbladder surgery. That comfort trope was 🤌🏻

I really enjoyed this addition to the series! Remy and Hazel were perfect for each other.

I loved this one! It's got a little bit of everything, fun banter, steamy scenes, adventure, and mystery. I really love how the story is playing out with each book. We get a little more information each time in regards to what really happened to their father. My absolute favorite things about this book are that their communication remains open all throughout and there is no third act breakup. It's getting old, and this series has been so refreshing not to have that common trope. Remy is the perfect blend of thoughtful and protective. I was rooting for him and Hazel the whole time. I can't wait to not only get Pax's story but also to have more of Dylan and Lydia.

I live for the moments that I discover a new author that makes me fall in love with a fictional place. Finding myself captivated by a storyline and cast of characters is what makes books magic. I'm not sure where I even heard about this series. I'm hooked so it doesn't matter because I'm invested in this interconnected world. I need answers as to who is behind everything. I have my suspicions and am curious to see if I'm correct in that assumption.

I'm not sure who is coming next but I'm ready, regardless.

I was kindly gifted this book by daphneelliotauthor and addictedtoreadingromance in exchange for my honest opinion. All thoughts are my own.

This is my first book by Daphne Elliot and I'm in love! The blurb pulled me in and the book kept me going. I love a good fake marriage/brothers best friend storyline. Remy and Hazel are just adorable, their banter is believable. The journey from friends to lovers was a funny one, they built each other up and made them become the best of each other.

This is a stand alone story however it is part of the Lovewells lumberjacks series. I’m gonna download them and read about the other brothers.

Oh shout out to Clive the Moose! Love him ❤️

This was so cute, but it just kinda ended with no resolution. Like so much build up for this friendly competition and we don't even know if they win or not!

Remy's a sweetie and loves so deeply, and Hazel does so much to support him and show him unconditional love and support.

Wood You Marry Me? is officially my favorite book by Daphne Elliot, I fell so hard in love with Remy & Hazel, their love story, their friendship and the constant support they offer each other throughout this book, plus I love that Daphne is making Lovewell Lumberjacks more interesting to read with each new book in this series, and although my relationship with Paz is tense at the moment 😅, I can't wait to read his book!

Hazel made me love her character, suffer with her and want to protect her in the same way as Remy, her life has not been easy at all, but I LOVED that she always had Dylan, his older brother, by his side, their relationship was BEAUTIFUL, touching and it made me very happy to read the bond between the two of them, and with Remy. Hazel is a VERY smart girl, an adorable badass nerd, who because of her past keeps her heart and feelings away from people who could hurt her and yet still has a lot of people around Lovewell that always are supporting her, encouraging her and that are proud of her and her achievements, something that I really liked and that made me love this little town even more.

Remy is the new love of my life, I didn't expect to love him so much, or so soon, but I can say that he's my favorite hero of Daphne without a doubt. He's the youngest of the Gagnons, the black sheep who is known by his sibling for being impulsive, reckless and taking things very lightly, but he is also a tender, kind-hearted, and considerate man that can't help but fall in love with his best friend's sister when he offers to help her. Reading Remy broke my heart as much as reading Hazel, especially because of the constant fights and belittling he suffers from Pascal, but I loved that he always had Henri's support and all the love she needed from his mom.

Remy & Hazel begin their story when he offers to marry her to give her health insurance so she can have the surgery she needs, but even before that Remy begins to feel things for Hazel that he had never experienced throughout their friendship, and Hazel has always had a small crush on him, so their marriage was forever doomed to be something more than what they had planned. From the very first moment Remy is the most caring, sweet, tender, and protective of Hazel, and she ALWAYS does everything she can to make Remy look the way she sees him, they both become an unconditional support for each other, help each other to pursue and achieve their dreams, and along the way it becomes more and more difficult to ignore the attraction, desire and growing love that intensifies every day. Together they are perfect: funny, flirty, and just what the other needs, although their path will not be easy, because Remy refuses to get in the way of Hazel's career and she is too afraid to open her heart to Remy and suffer when their marriage ends.

Finally, I think Dylan was a super important character in this story, not only because he is Hazel's brother and Remy's best friend, but because his personal story is as interesting as that of the main characters. He has a huge heart that shows in every interaction she has with them and I really hope Daphne gives us his story at some point.

DNF at 59%. The story felt too rushed but also dragged out at the same time. A lot of inner monologue and not as much interaction between characters. And the “my wife” “my husband” business was too much. That is ultimately what had me rolling my eyes and giving up.

Before reading this book I’ll be honest I never thought of “hot” lumberjacks…. After this book, well I won’t lie when I say I looked up some of these lumberjack games just to see what it was all about… so thank you Daphne Elliot.

Spice:🌶️🌶️🌶️.5

My friends I won’t lie when I say I have been steeped in fantasy novels lately. They seemed to be the only thing that really kept my interest and as a mood reader I just read whatever book struck my fancy, then I received an ARC of this amazing novel and wow, wow, wow! This story was so flipping cute! If you’re looking for a novel that embodies friends to lovers, marriage of convenience, brainiac bookworm falls for lumberjack athlete, with an underlying mystery subplot boiling into so much suspense, than Wood You Marry Me? Is absolutely the book for you! It’s one of the funniest and cutest contemporary romances I’ve read this year!

As always let me give y’all a little taste of what I loved about this book without spoilers! First off let me just say that I LOVED the characters obviously we mostly focus on our two main characters Hazel and Remy, but the side characters whether they were friends, brothers, or mothers they were all simply stunning! Now onto what I loved about our main characters! I loved Hazel, she was so inspiring in that she has a rough childhood where the only person she ever really felt connected to and loved by was her brother Dylan. But did she let this stop her? Absolutely not in fact she worked her butt off and put herself through college and then grad school working on getting her PhD, unfortunately PhD student doesn’t cover medical bills and poor Hazel is in desperate need of medical attention (but you’ll have to read to find out for what). I simply loved that she was such a brainiac, but still compassionate and thankful to the town that helped raise her. She never once thought she was better than them with her PhD, in fact part of why she worked so hard to get her PhD is to in fact give back and help her little town out, but she’s got a few obstacles standing in her way, until good ole brother best friend Remy enters the picture. And y’all let me say I LOVED Remy! He was so sweet, goofy, and loving. I also loved that he saw Hazels smarts and then her looks, he literally fell in love with her brain first. I adore that Remy was not only willing to follow Hazel while she chased her dreams but actively encouraged her to go out and be the best she could be and not let anything stand in her way. In fact I loved how the encouragement of dreams went both ways with Remy supporting Hazel in getting her PhD, and Hazel was willing to always show Remy that not only could he follow his lumberjack dream but also that she was willing to go to war with his family if it meant standing up for Remy! But back to Remy I really enjoyed how he slowly broke Hazels walls down by caring for her mind, body, and heart showing her that he loved her through the good and the bad, and he wasn’t just going to one day up and leave her! Honestly, I think this was one of most perfectly written friends to lovers stories ever!!

This story guys!! It was so sweet and cute!! I loved the setting, I mean come on rural Maine was honestly the perfect back drop for a lumberjack love story, and then throw in an elderly Moose determined to cause mischief for our couple!! Laugh out loud hilarious! Honestly there were many times in this story that had me in stitches from laughing so hard pretty much from the start! And then you through in a little mystery and suspense, and I simply couldn’t put this book down! Honestly, that’s all I can give y’all without spoilers so that where I’ll end this review while impatiently wait for book 3!

Truly guys this is a laugh out loud rom-com that is not to be missed!!

HAPPY READING 📖

Title: Wood You Marry Me? (Lovewell Lumberjacks Book 2)
Author: Daphne Elliot
Hero/Heroine: Remy & Hazel
Tropes: Marriage of Convenience, Brothers Best Friend, Best Friends Sister, Small Town,

tw/cw: death of a parent (off page), mention of drugs and addiction, infidelity (off page), health scare,

✨ the good ✨

I’m over here all gorged out on lumbersnacks, and let me tell you folks, Remy Gagnon is a straight up bingeable, snack worthy man. Daphne Elliot has some kind of gift for creating heroes that are knuckle bitingly hot, and long may she keep them coming (that was an unintentional innuendo, I promise).

Remy and Hazel both have things that they want to achieve in life. Remy wants to stop being the Gagnon family disappointment, and Hazel wants to complete research in order to gain her PhD. When a health scare ends up with them both entering into a marriage of convenience, things get just that little bit more complicated for them when feelings start getting involved.

Let me just say this - Hazel is a straight up queen. Fiercely independent, loyal and ridiculously smart, she had Remy’s back constantly throughout this book and I adored that about her. Not one to back down, she was constantly defending him when it came to his siblings attitude toward him, as well as building his confidence back up when he started to question himself and his abilities. Remy was just as amazing. Supportive and just an all round sort, you could tell he adored Hazel and wanted to be her person. These two were an incredible couple and I was cheering for them so hard throughout this friggin amazing story.

If you couldn’t tell from the above rambling, I adored the second book in the Lovewell Lumberjacks series, and I’m already hyped up for the next story. Already have a feeling what couple it will be based on and I’m Here. For. It.

✨ the bad ✨

Absolutely nothing. Actually no, I lie slightly, there were a few times I wanted to punch Pez in the dick, but I know he’ll be redeemed cos, you know, it’s Daphne Elliot, and she knows her heroes.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.

✨ overall thoughts: pick up this book right now and binge on the lumbersnack goodness

Wood You Marry Me?- Daphne Elliot

Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Oh my gosh, I loved this book so much. It was such a cute small town romance with brother best friend/best friends sister (not forbidden), marriage of convenience, forced proximity, *MY WIFE*, timbersports (which I’ll be completely honest, I thought the Daphne took some creative license with this and made up…it’s totally real! 😂), and a cockblocking moose. I will say, if you haven’t read Wood You be Mine, I definitely recommend starting there because while the books themselves can be read individually, they’re really better read in order because of the much larger overarching plot that will span over the entire series. It gets a bit dark at the end for a minute, which I wasn’t expecting but I loved it. Let’s get into it shall we?

“We’re a team. Husband and wife. For a little while, at least. And what my wife wants, my wife gets.”

We’ve got our super smart, independent, sassy h, Hazel. I freaking love a good strong FMC. Hazel takes shit from no one, she hates being a burden and she hates when her brother is super over protective since he basically raised her, so as an adult, she’s made herself extremely independent almost to a fault. She’s got lots of walls built and doesn’t let a lot of people in. While she’s studying for her PhD, she comes home to do some research and work on her dissertation but she’s got some medical issues that arise but without insurance they cost too much to get the necessary surgery.

“My wife. My partner. Mine.”

In comes our super hot, well employed and insured, lifelong friend and lumbersnack, Remy. When the suggestion of getting married to Hazel by his best friend/her brother arrises he can’t help but want to help and agrees. Neither really knew the both had a thing for each other in their teens and now 10+ years later, they’ve decided on a one year marriage of convenience while Hazel gets healthy and finishes her PhD and she’ll help gain the confidence he needs after a bad breakup and help him train for the National Competition of Timbersports, including a wife carrying competition. Will they be able to stick to their own rules of staying platonic or will they finally lean into their teenage crushes for each other?

4.5/5 Stars

It’s official, Remy is my new favorite book boyfriend!

Hazel is working towards her PhD but her gallbladder has other ideas. She needs surgery, but since she’s uninsured she can’t afford it.

Her brother’s best friend Remy is training to become a professional timbersport athlete. His manager and potential sponsors think he’s engaged, and that’s a problem since his ex cheated on him and now he’s most definitely single.

Remy offers to marry Hazel so they can help each other. She gets insurance, and he gets to save face. They agree to remain married for one year and then part ways.

What could possibly go wrong? Hazel is definitely over her teenage crush on Remy, right? Of course she is! Too bad her heart didn’t get the memo, because once he shows up to their fake wedding with her favorite flowers she realizes this won’t be that easy.

Remy always thought of Hazel as his best friend’s little sister. Taking care of her after her surgery is just what friends do for each other. Building her bookshelves is just practical, she needs a place to store her books. Calling her his wife every chance he get is just selling their story. He’s definitely not falling in love with his fake wife, because that would be crazy right?

Wood You Marry Me? is book 2 in Daphne Elliot’s Lovewell Lumberjack Series. It’s an interconnected standalone, however it should be noted there is a secondary storyline that carries throughout the series and won’t be resolved in this book.

CLIVE IS BAAAACKKKK. I love Clive- he just shows up to cause chaos and leaves. That’s my kind of moose!
On a more serious note, I have been in a MAJOR reading slump, but this ARC was due yesterday (oops) so I forced myself to sit down and start it (today 👀) and told myself I just had to read a chapter or two and at least be able to say I was working on it. Long story short, I binge read it and am happy to say that I think my reading slump is over (fingers crossed).
This book was so good!! The characters have actual depth and don’t seem like they’re there just for convenience for the plot or something. I love this series so much and can’t wait for the next book 💕
I do have some mixed feelings though about how Hazel handles her past; I understand that it was awful and that it has made her a strong, independent woman (we love that) but to me it seemed like she was TOO willing to talk about it and bring it up in conversation. I feel like sometimes she brought it up and made Remy feel bad for literally no reason, like how she didn’t play sports in high school.
Also, the ending kind of came out of nowhere. It felt like I was 75% done and then a new plot line started that I was not expecting to get resolved in this book but actually wrapped up in a weirdly short amount of time.
All in all, I loved this book and Remy gives major golden retriever vibes 🙌 Like seriously, where can I get a Remy? And he took every opportunity he got to call her his wife, even when they were married for practical reasons only 🥺
Also- it killed me when Lydia referred to Remy as a book boyfriend but real when he’s actually a book boyfriend… she kind of broke the fourth wall there 🤔

WOOD YOU MARRY ME? By Daphne Elliot

What happens when you accidentally throw a blueberry pie in your brother's best friend’s face?
You marry him a week later for health insurance.
Dreamy lumberjack Remy Gagnon is not just my brother’s best friend, he’s my new husband - thanks to my pesky gallbladder.
One year, that’s our deal. I need surgery and to finish my PHD, and Remy is trying to become a professional timber-sport athlete. There’s not time for feelings, we’re both focused on our goals.
Easy as pie, right?
Not exactly. Because he shows up on our fake wedding day with my favorite flowers, builds me bookcases, and he calls me his wife every chance he gets.

😊
What i liked -

✔ Marriage Of Convenience/Brother's Best Friend/Lumberjack/Small Town.
✔ Let me start by talking about my favourite of the lot. The sassy, matchmaker in the making - Clive the moosey. The book would not be complete with his gracious presence.
✔ Now it's Remy's turn. He is all things you want in a man- strong, caring, protective with a ton of sexiness.
✔ Hazel is super intelligent, smart, caring and can compete with Clivey in sassiness.
✔ My favourite scene in the book was the clothes stealing one.(i was rolling with laughter with the after effects of that)
✔ This book made me snort, laugh, tear up, sit on the edge with the suspense, swoon with the dirty talks and melt with the slow burn.

🤔What could have been better -

✔ I wanted more of Moosey.

📚Who Should read :
