Riley’s finding that the afterlife can be a lonely place when all you do is focus on work. So she goes to the place where dreams happen, hoping to find a way to contact her sister, Ever. She meets the director, who tells her about the two ways to send dreams. As a Dream Jumper, a person can jump into a dreamer’s dream, share a message, and participate. As a Dreamweaver, an entire dream can be created in a studio and sent to the dreamer. But Dreamweaving was outlawed decades ago, and the studio was boarded up. Thinking it’s her only way to reach out to her sister, Riley goes in search of the old studio. There she finds a ghost boy, who’s been creating and sending nightmares to people for years. Not how I expected this to end. I was hoping that Riley would have ‘crossed’ Satchel over or had gotten him to stop with the dream weaving nightmares, but she only managed to get part way through to him. Maybe, within the next book, she manages to try and get him to stop.

Another Riley Bloom sweet story, and it is uniquely different. Finding herself with time for R&R, Riley’s at loose ends, having not made friends yet; seeing her family fitting in and busy. She is certainly experiencing that the afterlife seems a lonely place when all you do is work. She goes to Dreamland, wanting to contact her sister, Ever. She meets Balthazar, the director, who tells her about the two ways to send dreams, by Dream Jumping.
They have banned Dreamweaving years ago, and boarded up the place. Riley stubbornly wants what she wants, so in she goes and discovers Satchel, a ghost boy, who’s been making and sending nightmares to scare people, as his own life was horrible. Her stubborn need to contact Ever, to find a short cut to growing up and being thirteen, will cause her to undo some hard earned work and learn some hard lessons. She loses some of her glow, and leans that not everyone will want to be helped as Satchel has still chosen to stay where he is.
A very interesting read; rich characters and stories, these are wonderful light little reads, and very entertaining and could be read in one sitting.

I feel bad for Riley Bloom. She died when she was twelve, and all she ever wanted was to be a teenager like her big sister, Ever. She feels awkward and uncomfortable in her skin. She finally crossed over to Here & Now, but she fears she will be twelve forever. She's been training as a Soul Catcher, and other than having a difficult time following the rules, she's been doing quite well. She, and her trainer, Bohdi, have been told they can have a vacation. Feeling lost, because she has no friends, and feels as though everyone else has something better to do, she decides to go find Dreamland. She meets Balthazar, and he teaches her how to dream jump. Just as she gets the hang of it, Dreamland is closed for the day. Determined to get into her sister Ever's dream, she sneaks back in. It becomes a dark place, where little light penetrates. She meets a boy who is a Dream Weaver. Someone who can send dreams, not just jump into them. And then everything goes more awry than it already was. She's tough, though

This is my least favorite book in the series so far. Once again, the side characters are way more interesting than the main character, and they don't get nearly enough development. But the thing that bugged me the most about this book is that the whole plot can be summed up with "12-year-old ghost girl has a crush on 14-year-old ghost boy, so she breaks a bunch of rules and causes problems for other people because she isn't getting her way." After the second book made so much progress with the main character's growth, it felt like this book just threw all of that away and put her back where she started.

Riley wants to see how her sister Ever is doing, but she does things that’s she not allowed to do. She breaks the rules to see her sister anyways and it causes a lot of problems.

The reason I read Dreamland was because it was the next book in the Riley Bloom series and I had read the previous book in the series. I enjoyed the first book and wanted to read more about riley. The books a quite small so I had to read more than one book.

I've decided that this book comes under the category of fantasy. I thought this because it is about something that doesn't exist or hasn't been experienced by a human. It could potentially be real but no one living could know because only the deceased could have experienced it. The ideas in the book are made up and it exists in another unknown land with made up things and abilities, which is why I believe it is fantasy.

The most amusing character I found in the book was the main character, Riley Bloom. She is very ambitious and always have to have what she wants and when she wants it and her stubborn ways makes her afterlife very interesting. in this book her stubbornness made her be stuck in dreamland after hours with a very scary boy who makes other peoples dreams into nightmares. Her personality always leaves her in sticky situations and that is why I like to read about her life the most.

"But did I listen? Uh, not exactly. Instead I charged full speed ahead into a whole heap of trouble.". This is a quote from the book that I believe shows what happens a lot in Riley's life. She doesn't listen to anyone but only thinks of her self and shortcuts in getting what she wants. And these shortcuts always land her in a lot of trouble. I think this quote is also very relatable, because as children and teenagers we tend to be very self-centred which, as well, can land us in a lot of trouble.

What I have learnt from this book is that patience is key in order to get what you want, as it is not always easy to receive it. Also that short cuts can take you in a fool loop and just land you back to where you were before and no closer to your goal.

My thoughts:
This series covers a lot of interesting ideas and things that tween girls struggle with and worry about, but in a unique setting. The fact that Riley spends so much time trying to grow up will really resonate with those girls right on the cusp of becoming teens. I remember wanting to be older, grown up, and look like it, so I think it will definitely appeal to those experiencing that. I thought the narrator, Kathleen McInenery, really nailed the voice too - almost to the point of annoyance as she's got the tween girl whining part down pat. As an adult, though, this book was pretty annoying. I thought the story was kind of pointless, except to show Riley still stuck, not improving, not changing, being obnoxious, selfish, and defiant. She still hasn't learned anything and it's book three? By this point, she should have been getting something. It just seems like she's not going anywhere and each book is the same thing over and over with a slightly different side character's story. Apparently, I didn't need to pick up the second book (I thought this was the second one) because Riley's exactly the same and had pretty much the same adventure as in Radiance, the first book. Hand these to the tween who is ready to be a teen already.

This is the third book in the Riley Bloom series and once again Riley finds trouble, this time in Dreamland. There is a wonderful cast of characters in this novel, including director of dream jumping, Balthazar, a former Hollywood director of numerous box office hits. He puts on fabulous productions to enhance the dreams of those of us still alive, giving hope and comfort and also allowing departed loved ones the opportunity to communicate a special message to their loved ones left behind on earth. When Riley wants to communicate with her sister Ever, Balthazar is ready to help Riley. Unfortunately, the impulsive Riley doesn't want to follow the rules. She ends up "working" with the dreamweaver Satchel, a boy who produces the worst nightmares imaginable in order to teach lessons to those he believes needs them. When Ever gets locked in a nightmare, Riley does everything she can to help her sister, but the lessons learned aren't easy ones for Riley. Her impulsivity, her snarky attitude can be an asset, but it also can cause more problems, especially when she uses it in a disrespectful and thoughtless manner.
Another terrific novel by Alyson Noel!

Dreamland gets personal when Riley goes looking for the land of dreams to contact her sister who is the only family she had left after the accident. She hears news about how her sister still blames herself and is still grieving the loss and that's why she needs to contact her, despite Bodhi's warning that she should not do this.

In Dreamland she meets a ghost boy who has been terrorizing people by sending them nightmares because he seems them as guilty in their own misery, he even says to Riley that she is to blame for the accident that killed her family except her sister.

This plot with the ghost boy was really interesting and enlightening for Riley herself as she comes to the realization that she is holding herself back from growing up. Riley does get more likable as the series goes on.

I'm kinda loving these books but also kinda hating them at the same time. The writing style is pretty god damn awful and i /never/ notice writing style but then it is written from a perspective of a 12 year old brat girl. (she's 12 by the way. Just in case you didn't know. 12. 12!! SHE WANTS TO BE 13 BUT SHE'S NOT. SHE'S 12. ...12! [sorry, it's getting on my nerves. We get it, love]).

I completely hate myself for reading them but then when it actually gets half way through and the book finally gets going the stories are pretty riveting even if the way they're written is irritating. You want to know the peoples stories and their past. So yeah. It's going alright.

She's 12 btw.

12.

Not 13. No, you're wrong still not 13. 12.

I am not the biggest fan of Alyson Noel. I think she has great ideas, but her writing isn't my favorite. I don't think she follows through very well with the formation of her ideas. In any case, though, I thought the Riley Bloom series sounded interesting because we get the dead sister's perspective, so I figured I'd read them.

Yet again, I found myself reading the beginning and the end and being done with it. Dreamland had a good premise, but I didn't feel like the middle of the book was necessary. Maybe younger (age appropriate) readers can appreciate it more, so I can't say not to read Dreamland, but for me it didn't do it.

Tapi menurut aku sih kurang konfliknya, jadi kurang gereget gitu. hehe.
penasaran banget deh pengen cepet cepet baca seri ke empatnya, whisper!!

I really wanted to like this series, especially seeing that I've even read till the third book. However, this series is incredibly boring. I kept trying to get myself to hang on and just continue reading but I honestly don't see the point in doing so any more. Riley just whines about the same things over and over. And the things that happen are boring and so are the characters. Would never recommend this series. Probably the three of the worst books I've ever read.

Choice Book #2 Quarter 2

Dreamland is a fantasy novel written by Alyson Noël. It is the third book in an outstanding four book series.

The main setting of Dreamland is Dreamland, a place in the afterlife that can watch, look after, and even interfere with the dreams of live people.

SPOILERS!!!
Riley Bloom has always been the main character of the Radiance series. All readers have grown to know and love her spunky, confident attitude. She has many regrets and wishes regarding leaving her living life, but now she has sorted most of them out. The one she hasn’t sorted out is her greatest desire; turning thirteen. Riley is a dynamic character because she first wanted nothing more than to turn thirteen, but at the end of Dreamland, she decided to stop obsessing over that. “I had to quit focusing on being eternally stuck as a flat-chested, twelve-year-old kid-and instead see myself as the mature and confident teen I wanted to be.”

Riley wants to send her sister a message asking for advice on how to be a teen. However, she feels guilty doing so because Dream Visitations are supposed to benefit the dreamer, not the visitor. When she decides to go ahead with the Dream Visitation, she has a very difficult time accomplishing it due to a very annoying “closing time” in Dreamland. This is mostly a Person vs Person conflict because Balthazar won’t continue working on her Dream Visitation with her after closing time. It is also a Person vs Self conflict because she must decide whether to Dream Jump in the first place.

The author believes that having desires is okay, but letting them rule your life is not okay.
Text Evidence:
1. Riley is constantly focusing on her turning thirteen. Everything she does is driven by this desire.
2. When Riley stops focusing on turning thirteen, she is able to accept herself for who she is and move on.
3. Satchel wants everyone to open their eyes and see all that they are doing wrong. He tries to achieve this in a corrupt way that hurts others.

I think Dreamland was a creative book because…
-Many authors, scientists, and psychologists have described the purpose and meaning of dreams. Alyson Noël has very unique imaginative ideas nothing like the theories that have been made before. I have never read a series with such original ideas. It is very impressive!
-My favorite part of Dreamland was when Balthazar puts fake angel wings on Buttercup and makes him fly back and forth across a stage that is a dreamer’s dream. It is very hilarious because he keeps calling Buttercup “she,” which annoys Riley very much.
-This book felt fairly complete. However, I was left wondering how Riley and Bodhi’s mission in Italy would go in the next and final book of the series.
-Like I said before, Dreamland, Shimmer, and Radiance all have impressed me with originality, character development, and plot. In my opinion, the entire series is superior to some other fantasy books that I have read, but not all.
-If I were Alyson Noël, I would write Dreamland just the way she did. Although, I might make Bodhi appear for a little bit larger part of the story because he is one of my favorite characters.

Choice Book #4 Quarter 2

Dreamland by Alyson Noel is a fictional book which takes place within Here & Now.

The main characters are: One, Riley. Riley is a twelve year old girl who wants to become thirteen. Riley has a green glow and disapproves of all “little kid” stuff. She also has a crush on Bodhi. Another important character is Bodhi. Bodhi is a fourteen year old boy who has a girlfriend named Jasmine. Bodhi also has a glow. A third important character is Satchel. Satchel had a horrible childhood where his parents made him see all the danger in his life. He wants to make the rest of the world see all the bad in the world by Dreamweaving. He has the opposite of a glow. (There is no light around him.) Another main character is Balthazar. Balthazar is the director of Dream Jumping. He helps Riley talk to her sister Ever. Ever is another important character. She is Riley’s sister who is the only survivor of the crash that killed almost all or their family. She is doesn’t want to talk to Riley when Riley manages to contact her, when they do talk though, she gives Riley some information on being thirteen.

The plot of Dreamland is, Riley talks to the council where they tell her to take some time off. While she is taking time off, she thinks about how she is only thirteen. Then, she goes to see Balthazar. (The director of Dream Jumping.) She eventually learns how to perfect her jump, But, it is closing time when she does it. So, she goes and finds a boy named Satchel. Satchel is a Dream Weaver, and traps her in a nightmare. She learns about Satchel’s horrible childhood afterwards. Then, she manages to talk to Ever in a dream. Ever gives her some advice. Find out more by reading the book!

There were a few problems in Dreamland. One was, Riley got stuck in the nightmare that Satchel made. Two, She wasn’t very smart when she was talking to Balthazar for the first time, almost resulting in her not Dream Jumping. Three, she is envious of Bodhi’s girlfriend, (Jasmine) and that helps her decide to become thirteen no matter what. Four, she can’t convince Satchel to do the right thing and has to give up after trying multiple times. These are just A FEW of the problems in Dreamland.

I liked the book a lot. One way I liked the book is, it is full of danger, like Riley getting stuck in the nightmare and more. I also liked the book because, it has humor. One example would be, like Riley saying, “Well, I’m hoping to send someone a dream.” and the guard narrowing his eyes and saying, “Excuse me? What did you just say?” I also liked Dreamland because some of the chapters ended with me thinking, “What just happened?” and other signs of confusion, resulting in me reading until my parents told me to put the book down. I was frequently reminded to pay attention while thinking about Dreamland. These are just a couple of the many, many reasons that I liked Dreamland. Find out more by reading the book, and all the other books in the series!

Inhalt
Zitate
"Dein Herz weiß immer, was wichtig ist.

Riley was having a hard time realizing that she was turning 13 and since she hadn’t been 13 before so she decided to get in touch with her sister who was still alive on Earth. In order to get through to her sister and communicate with her sister she had to do this thing called Dream waving, which is where she is able to communicate through dreams, though it seems easy , it’s not. Riley has a hard time trying to get it right, she runs into a few dilemmas and eventually runs into a boy whose name is Satchel, who is giving her a hard time. When Riley is finally able to get away from Satchel, Balzathor decides to give her another chance to get to her sister. Everytime she is able to get into her sisters dream , her sister would wake up, so Riley decides to let her be in control. After a dream with her sister she was still unsure what to do until Bodhi comes along and sets her straight and let know what needed to happen in order for Riley to turn thirteen

Dreamland was the only book I have read in the Riley Bloom series and was surprisingly easy to follow.
It was extremely fast-paced and had not many tropes which I enjoyed as it supplied the element of surprise. The book had unique characters too.
Although I enjoyed the unusualness of the characters, it was very hard to identify each one because none stood out to me or brought light to the children book. Riley throughout had the goal of becoming a teenager which in conclusion resulted in a very generic meaning/lesson. This was obviously common for a middle grade book but I just couldn't see the point in have read it to end up with something so basic.
Lastly, it is a 3 stars because I of course liked the silly childness of the fantasy world and the incorporation of the afterlife it was very good for the middle grade I have read before. Just not my genre.

Following Riley’s journey to grow up in the afterlife is a lot of fun, she is brave and takes on a lot for a 12 year old child. I love the messages in this series, the dream jumping is a really cool feature and I love hearing little things about her sister Ever (I haven’t read the main series yet) it will be neat going into it with the little bits I’ve picked up from this series and I can’t wait to see how Riley comes into play. Started the last book , can’t wait for Riley to get her glow on!

The third novella in the Riley Bloom series. Riley decides she wants to go to Dreamland and contact her sister Ever in the real world. She wants advice on how she can prepare to be a real teen. But Dreamland, is not the happy place she imagines, and she finds herself trapped by a truly lost soul. Fans of the series will enjoy this book.
