I really loved this book. It is a beautiful fantasy with a basis in Chinese mythology. It is really hard to believe that this was the author's debut. So much happens in this book, characters, battles, court intrigue, romance, plot twists. I really loved it.

My library has it categorized as adult fantasy, but it read more like young adult. No cursing or sex scenes. A very strong female central character, the male characters less so.

I've already downloaded book #2!

What a fabulously spectacular cover! I picked up this book strictly on the cover. I'm super glad that I did as it is a wonderful story that captured my attention from the first page and honestly held it until the last. I can't wait for the conclusion of this duology in Heart of the Sun Warrior (The Celestial Kingdom Duology, #2) by Sue Lynn Tan to be published in November 2022. ...more

I thought this was such a great book! Once I got started it was hard to put down. I loved both the plot and characters of the story. Xingyin is such a great main character and was rooting for her from page one. I liked the romance she has with I think Sue Lynn Tan writes so beautifully. I was really engaged with the story from page one. I can not wait to read the squeal.

An opportunity presents itself when she finds herself in a compe

I liked it, but eh...? not really my kinda book.
It was too fast-paced to have as much character development as I prefer.
Really felt like a fairy tale/myth, where things just happen, and people conveniently know exactly how to solve that problem you're having, down to the minute detail.
If the second book was available right now, I would almost definitely pick it up, but with it not coming out until November...who knows if I'll still be interested by then.

I really wish I had liked this mo
