What Members Thought
I decided that protagonist Mary Emmons didn't qualify as a strong female protagonist even though the back cover blurb says she is a strong protagonist. I think it's because she is a real historical individual. The complexity of a real person means that she won't have the stature that I want in a strong fictional protagonist. That's the way I feel anyway.

I'm going to start this review in an unusual way: don't turn your nose up at books you might find in the dollar store. Seriously. You never know what kind of gems you'll find there. For me, this was one of them. (Also, don't turn your nose up at the dollar store ... it can be a good resource for inexpensive paper goods and more.)
