This collection of stories of children dealing with the horrors of slavery, war, and genocide will tear you apart and put you back together again. Loved this book even before Oprah made this a part of her book club!
This book was beautifully written, and so descriptive that I really understood and felt what the characters were going through. However, each story was so heartbreaking, sad, torturous, hopeless, that it was difficult to read. I must say that is why I had to knock off so many stars.

I am having a really hard time getting into this book. It's disturbing but also kind of boring and hard to follow.
