Was this perfect? No. Did I enjoy it? Yes.
I think whilst this story does struggle with issues like pacing, over description in some areas, and a lack of fleshing out of characters, it really still holds a lot of magic and discussion around certain topics.
Personally I loved the conversations around misogyny and ableism surrounding the original text. In Peter Pan Hook’s Hook is seen as something to be feared and his limb difference is villainised. The women & girls were treated as homemakers and nothing more. Here Low was very attentive in not only recognising that, but giving us characters who actively fight against those tropes which I found really interesting.
It was fast paced and kept me interested but I really do wish the characters would have been fleshed out further and I held no interest in the romance. Personally I felt like the romance wasn’t needed at all, it felt a tad out of the blue.

I didn’t expect to love this as much as I did; I believe it’s the authors first book and there weren’t tonnes of reviews so my expectations were low. Then I picked this up and quite literally DID NOT put it down. I skipped lunch. This thing was glued to my hand.
Whilst this does handle some stronger themes in their past, it’s a cute and cosy romance with a dash of drama and fake dating to keep things interesting. It felt fresh and the characters are incredibly lovable and well fleshed out.

It follows a woman who takes on a job as a PA to a head of a large corporation, who is incredibly closed off emotionally. It had slight Devil Wears Prada vibes which I adored.

I was worried that this would be too fluff / romance centric but Maser does a brilliant job of mixing romance with action that is apt for the dystopian environment.
The story kept me gripped the whole way and I breezed through it in two days. Not only is the romance this captivating slowburn but the story of survival around that was fast paced and gripping.
And yes- it even has a dash of spice.

This was a brilliant romance read. There’s an intriguing story beside the romance that had a dash of drama and angst for people that want a romance with more depth to the plot.
It was a read that leaves you feeling immersed in the setting, and Gold has a style of writing that’s a breeze to read.

There’s something oddly entrancing about the way he portrays Dorian’s reality and the society around him with their set standards of superficial & bourgeoisie morality. This slowly rubs off on him until he loses all sense of perception surrounding the lives of others.
There is plot there, but it mainly felt like a commentary on art and beliefs at the times.
I did mark it down because regardless of how good Wilde’s writing was, there were multiple instances of blatant antisemitism in the portrayal of the featured Jewish character.

This was the first manga by this publisher I didn’t enjoy. Normally their Yuri have been really solid but this one was sadly a nope for me.
Some shorts in this anthology were good; there’s one story about a maid to a rich woman which honestly would have worked so much better as a standalone and was giving The Handmaiden vibes. Sadly the good stories were outweighed by some of the content they were placed between.
The sexual assault is graphic and feels like a common reoccurring theme in half of the short stories in here. It also feels like it was written for straight men and the school setting for one of these was… again, no.

This was a graphic novel I have been looking forward to reading for years and honestly it was a struggle from the get go.
If you’re reading the ebook the text is an odd font that’s hard to make out on a kindle/larger tablet. The speech didn’t make sense at times, which I believe was the grammar choice they were going for with certain characters but it only made this comic all the more confusing.
By the end I worked out the plot, and I really wish I hadn’t because NAH. I had to fight the urge to gag.

I feel like I should have expected this given it was 50 pages long but the pacing was horrendous.
Whilst the writing style was decent enough, the relationship felt so sudden and forced and there wasn’t much happening. Just a lot of the alien character travelling and the other mc waiting around for her.
If you can get it free on Kindle Unlimited it’s still worth a read especially as sapphics have so little rep in the alien romance genre, but having bought it I’m not sure why I bothered.

I’ve read so many Carmilla retellings & watched many more that at this point it takes something I adored to stand out. This adaption was both so incredibly different whilst remaining true to the feel of the original book.

The writing style was incredibly enjoyable and I found myself loving both characters. It was so warm and cosy and is a perfect winter romance. I’m glad I grabbed a paperback because I will re read this one.
Also the casual anxiety rep was well handled and great to see.
I debated giving this four stars but I just felt like it was a tad too rushed at times. Some scenes (especially spicy ones) felt very sudden and flew by, going from 0-100 in the span of a page or two.
Saying that, pacing was my only issue with this novel, otherwise I loved it.
Spice wise it had a few moderately spicy scenes but they are fairly brief.
