- Grumpy and sunshine - Fake dating - Slow burn - Cute romance and not much smut - there was 1 scene
What I loved:
This was a fun and addictive read to switch off. It was light, cute, humorous and the characters were likeable.
The academic STEM setting brought me back to my uni days! But, I clearly went to the wrong one because there were no young handsome professors playing sports shirtless LOL. All the scenes were so unrealistic, cheesy and cliche BUT I loved it because it allowed me to switch off and escape!
What was missing:
Adam and Olive's relationship was cute but I didn’t feel much fiery chemistry or tension between them, even in the awkward situations they got into.
What I didn't enjoy:
I did get a little annoyed with the continual use of the word fake. Fake dating, fake date, fake girlfriend, fake boyfriend, etc. I get it, its all fake!
One thing that I did find weird was (view spoiler)[the reason why Olive had kept quiet after the incident with Tom. It would’ve made more sense if it was because she was scared to speak out, but to keep quiet because she didn’t want to affect Adam… what? (hide spoiler)]...more

What I loved
- This was a light, mindless and quick read that I could skim through without missing important detail.
- Aaron and Catalina’s relationship was so sweet! I loved their interactions, the tension, chemistry and the subtle unsaid things between them. I had to try not to smile like an idiot when I was reading in the living room and other people were around!
- I am a huge fan of Aaron. I loved how he treated Catalina, noticed the small things and looked out for her, it was so sweet and endearing! Aaron was a broody character so when he smiled it was a big deal.
What I wasn’t a fan of
- It was a slow start. The story and conversations dragged on, but when the focus shifted to Catalina and Aaron, I loved it.
- It felt like all the effort in writing the book was during the vacation and after returning, the last third of the book felt like an afterthought. Just throw in one more challenge for the couple, gloss over it and then that’ll do.
- This wasn’t the enemy to lovers I expected. I was hoping for a better set up for why they were enemies in the first place, for their interactions to be fiery and intense. But instead Catalina’s hatred was one sided and Aaron was too good to her!
- I didn’t deduct any stars for this but I don’t actually like workplace office romance because that reminds me of my job and I want to read to escape, not to be reminded haha! ...more

Told from 5 perspectives, we follow the lives of 5 couples and how their relationships have been impacted by the ground breaking technology of Match YTold from 5 perspectives, we follow the lives of 5 couples and how their relationships have been impacted by the ground breaking technology of Match Your DNA. It was very distracting jumping to so many characters with completely different and mostly independent stories, made worse because I was listening on audible. But somehow it worked in the book’s favour as the slower stories were carried by the more exciting ones. I would have preferred if they converged into a cohesive storyline like the series, or to simply have fewer characters. The pace felt slow, however, as my interest diminished within a chapter, it would pick up again as the chapters are very short and they finished with a cliffhanger so I was always hooked back in.
Plot I love how this book is based on today's modern world with the discovery of Match your DNA, so I can actually imagine and immerse myself in the story. For all the science nerds, note that the explanation behind it was light to non-existent. The aim was to clearly shock readers with the crazy plots rather than focus on the consequences of the technology, if anything, it was used as a means to progress the story.
- “Match your DNA” was how Christopher and Amy met. The progression of their story was focused on Christopher’s extra curricular activities, which I admit, was more interesting than his easily evolving emotions. Their relationship was uneventful and I wish there was more of a cat and mouse game between them.
- Sally and Nick were already a happy couple so at first I thought it showed how it would impact existing healthy relationships. Sadly this was overturned in the end by the fact that Sally was a vindictive character who used the technology to get what she wants. So again, less about the impacts and more about the twist.
- Tim used the technology as a means to meet Elly for revenge, the central theme for their story.
- Mandy and Richard and the Impacts of a match in a coma. However, rather than seeing how Mandy could move on and how it would affect her future dating experiences and relationships, she met a mentally unstable family who took advantage of her vulnerabilities.
- Jade, matched with Kevin who has a terminal illness. I’d say this was the only story in which “Match your DNA” was the strongest theme, though sadly it was also the most boring one. Despite Jade questioning her feelings for Kevin, she believed in the science of “Match your DNA”. (hide spoiler)]
4 out of the 5 stories were boring or average at best as they felt more soapy at times. The only one that consistently kept my interest was Christopher’s story, this could have been a whole book in itself. I was very impressed with the endings and twists. Usually you would know when there is a twist coming but there was a massive one for all the perspectives and I was hit with reveal after reveal.
Characters There were so many characters and yet I didn’t care about any of them, they were either unlikeable, flat or at best I felt neutral. I was spending more effort trying to remember their names and context rather than empathise with them, even after the twists.
I didn’t like Mandy or Sally as they were both whiny characters. Mandy’s choices were questionable and Sally’s insecurities were frustrating (at first, till I found out she was actually a villain, even more unlikeable).
I didn’t mind Ellie and Nick. Ellie was a complex character with a tough facade but showed vulnerable moments. Nick was an all round stand up good guy, devoted to his unmatched partner and tried to keep their relationship.
The only character I looked forward to was Christopher because it's always interesting to be in a psychopath's head. However, it was quite dull. His relationship and character development was way too easy and straightforward as he just suddenly developed emotions.
Recommendation If you’re looking for an easy and mindless read, this is a good candidate. However if you’re looking for something like Black Mirror that focuses more on the technological impacts and feels eerily realistic then definitely give this one a miss.

This is a long revi1.5/2 stars. I’ve been sitting on this review and putting it off for a while now. Unpopular opinion alert, please don’t hate me :(
This is a long review, so here’s a summary of my thoughts Overall the writing is poetic, rich and the twist itself was good. However because the book felt so long, uneventful and I didn’t like most of the characters, I just didn’t enjoy it. I wasn’t mind blown because by the time it had picked up, I had already detached from the story and just wanted to finish it.
Plot I liked the premise of the novel. A nameless naive woman who plunges into her new luxurious life to become the second Mrs De Winter where she was plagued with reminders of the first Mrs De Winter, Rebecca. However this book was just way too long and so drawn out, I may have enjoyed it a bit more if it was just the first 10% and the last 20%. I found that nothing much happens for the majority of the novel. It was centred around Mrs De Winter’s day to day life inside/around the iconic Manderley, struggling to adjust, having social calls and introducing very little other characters. There were a lot of complex interactions such as the power play between Mrs Denvers, the ghost of Rebecca and the second Mrs De Winter, but to me it wasn’t enough to grab me in and immerse myself into her life. It was an uneventful drama of a woman who had lost her confidence and couldn’t assert authority. I felt both sympathy and frustration.
There was meant to be a lot of mystery around Rebecca and that her presence was always felt. She was clearly loved and feared and you are teased with a few hints but nothing substantial. I was hoping for more clues of something more dark that had happened that would make me come up with more crazy theories. But instead, the actual truth is dumped on you. After learning the truth it picks up but then each reveal and twist falls really flat. I think at this point I was already feeling tired, I didn’t like most of the characters and wanted to get it done and over with. Upon reflection the twist itself was good! I didn’t see it coming at all but (view spoiler)[ it was very convenient as it meant that people were off the hook and got away with it. (hide spoiler)]
Characters Second Mrs de Winter I never rooted for the second Mrs De Winter, she was dull and bland, quite a forgettable character. Though from what I've read, that and the fact that she was never named, was intentional so that her presence was overshadowed by the previous Mrs DeWinter. Clever. But still wasn’t a fan. There was little development. She was the same for 70% of the novel and when she found out the truth she suddenly flipped a 180 and found her confidence. Her relationship with Maxim was toxic and frustrating, her acceptance of the truth was too easy, I wish she cried, questioned, argued, anything! She was always thinking about him, thinking she was not good enough, or that she did something wrong, it was so sad to read!
Maxim de Winter There’s no better way to describe Maxim than an entitled, arrogant, controlling man/child with little to no redeeming qualities. He treated his wife so poorly and gave her no support. I never felt any sympathy for him, if anything he deserved anything that was coming for him. (view spoiler)[Sadly that punishment never came. (hide spoiler)]...more
