The plot's utterly full of useless shit. This novel could've been way shorter. It has 500+ pages (on my iPad) and most of the novel was full of useless conversations. It also has too much adjectives, and tends to describe things longer than it should. And where the fuck is the action? I really liked the first book because it was full of violence and character building. This is probably the most disappointing book I've read for 2014. There are some actions in the latter part, but they aren't as exciting as the ones in the first book.
The reason why I didn't give this the unforgiving one? Jorg. Despite the terrible plot, he's still one of my favorite characters in the fantasy genre. I might've been bored, but I still wanted to know what would happen to him. Katherine was equally as interesting as Jorg in this novel, but aside from the two, I have nothing good to say about this novel. The two got me to continue reading, but the ending's just bad.
I didn't like the dual timelines going on. He could've just written all the events of four years earlier and then introduced Wedding Day . This is probably a personal preference of mine though. It's clearly opinionated but it really contributed to me disliking this novel by a great extent.
One more thing I fucking hated would be the word fecking. It's so fucking annoying. It's not something people would want to fucking use and hear. Just stick with fucking cause you're fucking cursing anyway. A fucking child would know that fecking is just an alternative for fucking . I just hate that fucking word so much.
I'm aware that almost all of my friends liked this a lot, but it just wasn't for me. I didn't like the story, and I'm not planning on reading the third book. It might be just me though, because I was really looking for great action. Although I also can't blame myself, because the first novel was amazingly action-packed. I'm just terribly disappointed. I wasted my time finishing this, because the ending was not even good. It was horrible.

I liked the first 2 stories of The Dying Earth. Both were very interesting and I read them very quickly. The third one, started to falter off. The 4th and 5th were mildly interesting, but the last one was completely unbearable. The plot of the last one was not enjoyable in any way, even the main character was boring.
The whole anthology didn't consist of the typical Sci-Fi war, political drama, technological advancement and some other usual stuff. It basically consisted of characters and their lives. When I was looking for a good Sci-Fi book, this book caught my interest. It in no way satisfied my wanting to read a good Sci-fi novel though. I'm going to try and stay away from anthologies from now on, cause I haven't had a good experience with one....more

The biggest letdown of this novel would be the one and only Jessica Reel. The main reason why I liked the first book was because of Will and Julie. I just didn't see much connection from Reel and Robie. Their relationship felt really forced and cliche. Yes, a crime novel that's cliche, nothing new. The only thing it can offer in return though would be good characters. Will Robie is already one of my favorites, but Reel just ruined everything. She's too weak to be considered as someone who was assigned to kill Robie. Robie's supposedly a freakin' legend, but all this novel showed was his sensitive side. It also seemed to showcase IHOP a lot. Made me want to eat breakfast at 1-am.
Another thing that I didn't like would be the fact that the author kept showcasing Robie as a highly-skilled assassin . First things first, he's really not that good. Everything he did was not impressive. I've read way better assassin novels. It wouldn't be that bad if the author didn't keep shoving how great of an assassin Robie is. Expectations tend to rise, and disappointment usually precedes.
Overall, this was a mediocre novel. It wasn't bad to a point wherein I wanted to throw it away, but not good enough to make me want to read the sequel as soon as possible. Disappointing new addition to the "cast". Hopefully the author didn't write more of Reel in the next novel, because I'm still planning to read it in the future. The short story seems promising though, I might read that after writing this and then postpone my reading of the third novel, because I still have a lot of other novels waiting in line. ...more

I've been a Teen Titans fan ever since I was young, and this "storyline" is quite different from the one that I used to watch on Cartoon Network. Beast Boy, Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire were the only ones familiar to me, and Deathstroke of course. They brought back a lot of good memories. Like I said though, this one offered a different story than the mainstream one. It's quite darker, and a bit mysterious. Some of the character's history were really interesting to read about, but some were just plain old boring and felt like info dump. The plot over all's above satisfactory.

Although it had an interesting premise, the delivery was not satisfactory. The concept of darkness as a power was really appealing to me, but the way that the novel was delivered was too bleak and confusing. I wanted more of the darkness being used as a power, but it wasn't explained much for me to be able to enjoy it. Confusion and boredom were the only things evident till around 50% of the novel. Some exciting parts started to happen but nothing mind blowing.
The characters were also very boring. No attachment to any character whatsoever. The character building was horrible, and I didn't really care much for any of them. The author could have made the characters more appealing, or even slightly more interesting if possible.
Like I said, the main premise was very appealing but the delivery was horrible. It was a roller coaster ride of confusion for me. Everything was going too fast and important details were not explained thoroughly. While I enjoyed some of the latter parts, most of my questions are still unanswered. The plot was terribly boring and all over the place.

I'm not sure if I read the same novel as the ones who rated this 4-5 stars. I honestly don't get how to like this novel, aside from the premise.
The blurb/synopsis is very ambiguous, yet that's not my problem with this one. Ambiguity doesn't necessarily mean that the novel's going to turn out awful, but rather ambiguity, in most cases, leads to the enjoyment of the reader. In this case, everything didn't work out the way I wanted things to.
While the premise is very interesting, the execution for me was horrible. I honestly only liked the first story, and the others were boring and flat. I needed to force myself to read and read hoping to be able to enjoy myself, but after every short story the level of my boredom drastically increased.
Maybe this novel's just not for me, or maybe I'm just not used to PKD's writing as this is my very first time to try out one of his novels. I'm not giving up on him though, because I think judging the author based on his short stories would be slightly incorrect. I'm clearly not recommending this, but if you're fond of PKD then maybe you'd be able to enjoy this. 1.5/5 stars, clearly not for me....more

Now I'm really lazy to write another insightful review, so I'll just summarize things.
What I really liked about this novel was the fact that it revolved around politics, betrayal, and murder. Some of the topics that I really am interested in. Another thing that I liked would be the ever changing setting. Ever changing in my opinion. I know the setting's in space, but it felt like it shifted from space to medieval time. That's how good the novel is. The war scenes were really detailed, and I liked that. This novel's just full of strong attributes, and one must give this novel a try.
The only thing that I hated though would be the main character, Darrow. In fact, he's the only reason why I rated this 4/5 in the first place. He was really annoying because the author made him perfect. No one's perfect, so he seemed really annoying to me. He had all the attributes needed for the perfect warrior, not a coincidence. His life was just too scripted for me, so I ended up hating him. I liked every other character though, so good character building, except for Darrow.
To sum things up, this was a really good read. I'm adding this to my "really good reads of 2014" list. Just a tip to those hardcore Sci-Fi fans, kindly ignore people adding this to their Young-Adult shelf, because this is not Young-Adult at all. The amount of violence would leave those new to the genre as scarred for life. So in other words, go pick up this novel already.
